Wonderful as always! We usually make it here once a winter and they always treat you like the neighbor next door. Great hospitality and service in this cozy local spot. The food is delicious, well excuted, and always interesting. Portion sizes are well balanced - big enough to fill you up if you're looking for a lighter meal, but small enough so you can order many options if you're looking to taste the menu. And the calamari. I'll pause for this one. One of the best I've had in CA, and better than many of the classic haunts in Monterey. It's served crispy steak style with a lemon burre blanc - don't miss it! read more

Wow. How to describe this experience. I had read a few one star reviews and I was hesitant. I brought my mother here for her birthday and it blew us away. Truly a unique experience and the owner has a strong personality which is why Stonefly is so incredible. The owner has an eye for perfection and this is reflected in the quality of the food. The service was amazing. Yvonne was our server and she was very attentive and swooped in at the exact moment we needed anything. We ordered the pork chop, salmon (special), and filet. Everything was cooked to perfection. I was pleasantly surprised by everything Stonefly has to offer. We will be back. Markleville is blessed to have such an amazing restaurant. The food is made with quality ingredients that you can taste. The hawaiian fish was crisp and top with fresh avacado and choped tomatoes. The pesto pasta was light and packed with flavor! The cheesecake is the best dessert to end the night. Mindy is an excellent waitress! Wow! I have to agree with every review. Stonefly is a restaurant to add to your lists. The food and service was fabulous. And we loved how it was situated on the Main Street, but still quaint. We loved it so much that we made our reservations for two weeks out. Definitely recommend making a drive if it's not on your route. You won't be disappointed with the food and ambiance. This is a wonderful first class restaurant, which is worth the trip. The ambience is certainly unique and many of the tables were outside under the shade. The service was fine. I was in Gardnerville, NV visiting my parents, as well as celebrating my Dad's birthday that is on New Year's Eve. My Dad told me that he made reservations at one of his favorite places in Markleeville, CA, name Stonefly. Came tonight on NYE and was seated soon after we arrived. Had a great menu, and had a slew of specials. We started with a French onion soup...WOW!!! DELICIOUS!! I got the chicken picatta with a dijon horseradish sauce, roasted vegetables, and a rice pilaf of sorts, Dad had the same. Mom had the roasted duck with a port wine reduction. All that I can say is it was DELICIOUS. I am from L.A., so our high end restaurants are on every corner, and this food was probably some of the best, ever! read more

Markleeville in general isn't a place my husband and I would choose to visit on a rainy, grey clouded couple of days-but we did. For dinner we made reservations (good idea) at Stonefly and told only outdoor seating was available. Stonefly's patio was quiet, relaxing, and because we wrapped ourselves in the fluffy patio blankets and stayed close to the heater stayed warm and dry. If I could give this place 10 stars I would. Most adorable quaint cozy outside dining.. hanging flowers, umbrellas, bug flappers on all the tables. We were very lucky! We happened to be there at 4:30 sharp and were able to get a lovely outdoor table, we have heard from many reservations are totally necessary. Our server was an absolute professional peach! I really wish I remembered her name, my total fault. Sangria was a beautiful glass of fruity wonderland. Calamari appetizer was a 10/10. Mushroom polenta appetizer was 10/10 2 New Yorks absolutely perfect. Spaghetti bolognese special enormous 10/10 Filet special absolutely superb. 10/10 Complementary focaccia bread. And water served in elegant glass bottles. I'm literally on my way back. Don't let the drive to Markleeville discourage you! HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED. We came to Markleeville for a weekend snow trip and due to reading Stoneflys reviews we decided to come by and give their fire roasted pizza a chance. As soon as we entered the restaurant the staff was so unwelcoming and gave us such rude stares without asking how can they even help us! Feeling of being discriminated based upon the color of our skin or not being a town "regular" was so unsettling and unbelievable! We were asked to sit down multiple times due to we ordered our pizzas to go and there's no seating area for waiting. We then sat and asked to order a bread and oil appetizer while we wait and was declined since the table they sat us at was "reserved"! WTF it gets better... As we were waiting for 20 mins uncomfortable with the stares and side comments the owner is prepping the food and literally licks her finger MID serving a plate! At this point I was so over this establishment and treatment we paid for our to go meals and asked for a side of dressing to go but was once again declined due to they "don't do togos or have the right containers". I understand that this is a small town and one of their only restaurants but when my family literally has to walk out from being so uncomfortable you will never receive another dollar from us. Travelers- I highly suggest driving the extra few miles to support another family owned restaurant. read more

Had dinner here recently for a party for two Ambiance was fantastic. A cozy restaurant with warm and welcoming vibes. Kitchen is very visible with the wood fired oven as the centerpiece. Service was excellent. The hostess and waitstaff were very friendly and knowledgeable. Food was overall good, but lacked consistency in quality. The wedge salad was a good start to the meal. The focaccia and olive oil/balsamic mixture was also very nice, although a warmer focaccia would have been nice. The baked Brie in the puff pastry was excellent and the highlight of the evening. For entrees, the pork chop was very thick and juicy, in a nice sweet and savory sauce, with solid mashed potatoes and veggies. The pasta of the day was a linguini in a pesto/San Marzano tomato/cream sauce with wood fired prawns. The prawns were great. The sauce was a somewhat unusual combination, which I am not sure works on all levels. The pasta however, was over cooked and lacked the Al Dente texture. Dessert was the carrot cake, which was fantastic. Overall a nice place to have a cozy dinner if you're in the area. The food quality may lack some consistency, but we still had a good time. I was told by our Airbnb hosts and also a nice couple on the kirkwood lift that the ownership had changed in the past year, and perhaps the food quality was more excellent previously, but I'm sure the new team is continuing to make improvements. read more

Not over the top sweet, it was a great way to end the evening. Customer service too, from the time you call in for reservations to the waitress that serves you. Excellent food in a cozy environment. The dishes are sophisticated and innovative yet restaurant is warm and super down to earth. You wouldn't feel out of place dressed up or down. Came here for the first time two days ago and we liked the food so much we came back the next night. Favorite dishes were the hangar steak (special), pizza and the mushroom polenta. Would have loved to try the calamari but we were too stuffed. The cioppino was delicious as well and came in a massive bowl with extremely fresh ingredients. Wine list is very reasonably priced as other reviewers have noted. The staff was incredibly friendly and service was amazing. Would recommend sitting at the bar table. read more

Such a special evening celebrating two 70th birthdays! We had a wonderful table but it had a little sun on us so the staff quickly retrieved an umbrella for some shade. Our meals were delish and we brought two bottles with us for celebrating...they were very accommodating in uncorking them for us. Service was wonderful even though they were quite full. We had the Edamame appetizer that was out of this world. We were a party of 4 and every one got something different, it was all fabulous! The dessert(s) were wonderful - our table of 4 shared a Cherry Bread Pudding - was out of this world fantastic and I highly recommend the Coconut Cake - so light and wonderful! Stopped by this little GEM of a place on a whim after a visit to the hotsprings. Very cozy atmosphere, friendly and attentive staff and the food was beyond amazing. We sat at the bar (due to us not making reservations) but it enabled us see literally everything that was prepared in the open kitchen from cooking to plating to serving. So impressed with the chef and the other 2 sous-chefs communication and efficiency in a very "cozy" kitchen. The wood fired meals were cooked to perfection and I can't believe that I've never been here !! As a 40 year Tahoe local..this is officially now my favorite dinner restaurant. Can't wait to go back. We ordered the filet and the calamari appetizer (best I've ever had.) Small, friendly and it seems everyone that stopped in was treated like a long-time friend. I hate to write reviews like this after picking this place based on other Yelp reviews. We were some what disapponted. Came here after driving back home from the Sacramento area. We hadn't been to Markleville in forever even though we only live about 30 minutes away. This place was packed on their outdoor patio. It was a bit chilly and windy and was shocked how many people were enjoying themselves without any heaters on the patio. The host asked if we had reservations. I said no, did we need them? He said he would see what he could do. He came back and sat us inside, yeah because it was too chilly outside for me. We had a very nice server. We got our drinks within 5 minutes. Another host set down some bread which was yummy. I asked what seafood was in the risotto. Sounded amazing and decided to order it. We also ordered 2 of the wood fire pizza. We got our food within 15 minutes. My daughter and I were splitting the pizza and risotto. My husband's pizza looked and tasted amazing. I didn't realize until we each ate a slice how our pizza looked, like it was thrown together pretty poorly. Most of the top was just crust and tomato sauce and the rest was in the middle. Okay, we were hungry and kept eating all the while my amazing looking risotto was waiting. Our server checked back and we said everything was fine. We didn't mention the pizza since my husband's was good so we let our slide. My daughter and I moved to the risotto. All the seafood on top was amazing and we started eating that. Wow, so good. Then it went south from there. I was wondering where the risotto actually was. I started to part the seafood to look only to discover mush! They over cooked the risotto and there was not a single grain of risotto, instead it looked like oatmeal. I tried to get our servers attention but she was out on the patio taking more orders. My daughter didnt like it so I kept picking at the seafood and since we were tired and hungry just ate the $24 meal. Since we ate it, we didn't mention it. I should have at least told them the risotto was horribly cooked. The server heard that it was my husband's birthday so she brought dessert menus. Can't remember what we ordered, some plum pastry with ice cream but it was fantastic. We will come back and give this place another chance. I really wanted risotto so I'll tell them what happened this time and see if she recommends giving it another try or to try something different. I'll then update my review. read more

This most wonderful establishment was not closed today as indicated by the application and much to our delight, opened at 4:30 Celebrating my 74th birthday, out for a drive revisiting some of my favorite locations when living near Carson City. As dinner time was approaching, needed to find an appropriate establish to share with my son and wife. Yelp said closed but the sign said open. Greeted by Amber as we walked in, who was to be both our hostess and server. The place, very cute, comfortable and cozy along with her friendly manor gave promises of a memorable dinner ahead. As we looked over the menu, she mentioned the house special of the evening which was pasta with prawns, capers, dried tomatoes, artichokes and a light white wine with lemon sauce. It's was amazing, every bite had me relishing the variety of flavors and each stood out. Along with focaccia bread and fresh french pressed coffee, made it the most wonderful dinner I have had in years. The meal was followed by a cream brûlée that fully complimented the meal.
