This is the quartz bench top that warped.
    Chris C.

If I had written this review shortly after purchasing a quartz slab (manufactured by them) from Stone West Inc in Ventura, it would have been a positive review, because we were happy with the appearance and "apparent" quality of the quartz. However, with the passage of time, a serious problem with the product has arisen, so this is now a negative review of Stone West's product, customer service, and warranty. Four years ago we purchased a slab of Stone West's proprietary Sunstone quartz. We used most of it for countertops of both bathroom vanities, and smaller pieces in the main shower (the top of a pony wall, the seat of a bench, and the top of the shower dam). Everything was fine for several years. But recently when I sat on the bench, I felt it move slightly, and I discovered that the quartz benchtop was no longer firmly attached to the substrate. I called the contractor who had done all the work on our bathroom remodel, and he came out to repair the bench. But upon removing the benchtop to prepare the substrate, he discovered that the quartz benchtop had warped/bowed upwards 1/4" at each end, and thus could not be properly reinstalled. Since Stone West says that their Sunstone quartz is warrantied for 10 years, I called them to see about getting a replacement piece. The woman who answered the phone said that the man I needed to speak with was busy and would call me back. After a day with no response, I tried emailing, and included photos showing where the bench had been installed and how much it had warped. I got a reply fairly soon. First, he said that they don't recommend using quartz in a shower. I said that was ridiculous, because every other quartz manufacturer says that quartz is the perfect material for showers, because it has no pores and can't absorb water. Next he asked for more photos and details of the methods used for installation. After I provided that, he said they would be contacting our contractor and his stone fabricator for more information, but they never did. Meanwhile, all this back & forth took almost a month, and we really wanted to have our shower working again. So we purchased another piece of a slab (this time marble) elsewhere, had it fabricated to duplicate the ruined benchtop, and reinstalled. After another two weeks with no response from Stone West, I contacted them again, and they said that they would not be honoring the warranty. In summary, the Sunstone quartz manufactured by Stone West is an inferior product, and their warranty is worthless. ***Update - one day later*** I have two comments regarding Stone West's response that the quartz wasn't installed correctly because "no waterproofing was evident ": 1) What "evidence of waterproofing" would you expect to see in the photos that I sent you? The waterproofing was hidden by the adhesive that the quartz had been attached with (until the quartz warped and pulled away from the adhesive). 2) Even if there had been no waterproofing at all, so what? Are you saying that your quartz warps when exposed to water? That's some very unusual quartz!

Steven was fabulous to work with at Stone West! We were beginning a whole house remodel and I showed Steven a photo of a kitchen that inspired me. I also explained that we were taking down walls and I was on a tight budget but wanted natural stone countertops. Stephen took me to places that I had not considered with his tile and slab suggestions and I am so grateful! We bought 1 black leathered granite slab, 1 Sea Pearl Quartzite Slab, Lg Format Italian Porcelain Floor Tiles and gorgeous organic handcrafted subway tiles for the backsplash. Steven was a pleasure to work with and Stone West replaced one of the Slabs for us, demonstrating that they will go above and beyond for their customers. I sell Real Estate and I recommend Steven to all my clients and friends who are updating their homes. If you are looking for great design selection at a good value and the best customer service, go see Steven at Stone West!

Great place to choose your slab. They are really helpful with selection and know what stone will work best for your needs. They held my stone for more than a few months after purchase while we waited for our cabinets and other materials. We ended up with a really beautiful quartzite for our island and white Quartz for the surrounding cabinets. They even helped with troubleshooting since our installer seemed to do a terrible job sealing the quartzite. I called them and they recommended a sealant and I haven't had any complaints since. Also, they had free lattes. I will be back when we are ready to do our bathroom.

Stone West supplies beautiful material! This master bath was made with Bianco Macauba quartzite and is stunning- Thank you Nick & Katie!

We have worked with Stone West for many years and appreciate the quality selection of material and customized service. Whether it is getting much needed samples in order to make the big decisions, we're getting an education on material types, we appreciate the good attitude and assistance Stone West is always willing to give. Thank you Nick, Katie, Mary and Company!

Then with no pressure whatsoever, gave me the time to go back through my options and find my perfect piece of Quartz. I've been told I tend to think things to death, so this was much appreciated. I made my selection and was scheduled for demolition and on-site measurements early the next week. Johnathan (demolition) and Daniel (measurements) arrived as scheduled on consecutive days. Both went off without a hitch. A few days later I received a text with photos of my slab layout for approval, immediately followed by a phone call from Joey who went over the project in detail. No issues. Fabrication was completed and installation was scheduled for early the following week. Tuesday to be exact. I was elated as this was exactly two weeks from the day I walked into the store. Jose and Mauricio arrive in the morning and finished the installation and clean-up before noon. I absolutely love my new double vanity countertop with the undermount sinks. I had to stop admiring it long enough to write this review. :-) From start to finish (Leanna), everyone I interacted with was friendly, patient, and committed to their piece of the puzzle. Kudos to everyone and thank you for making this painless. I will gladly recommend Ventura Stone to family, friends, and anyone who will listen.

We were finally able to get our kitchen updated. My husband and I received a few bids. We selected California Kitchen Creations, they were within 5k of other bids, we selected them over others for a few reasons. 1. Our first encounter with Emily was wonderful. She eased our nerves and she knew exactly what I was looking for, rustic minimalist with a Mediterranean touch. She walked us through the process, how they work and we put a tiny fee, which gets credited to project amount, for a quote and mock up of our design. 2. The quote was very specific and laid out costs for everything and had no hidden charges. There was a definite timeline. This made us relaxed in knowing so we could plan ahead. We also liked the pay as you go process. 3. The design was beautiful and Emily met me at the tile store and was always available for our questions. We rented a pod, which I suggest because the team was able to store their equipment at the end of the work day. Each day they came at the scheduled time and worked until 4:30 pm. No erratic hours. The team cleaned up and put what they could away each day. They were polite to us and my doggies, even though they barked at them. We had a total gutted kitchen so of course there is noise and dust. And there was a plumbing surprise, which really was not a surprise. The supervisors were always one phone call away for issues or answers. I can't say enough. They created a beautiful kitchen for us that we could never imagined. The square footage of our kitchen has not changed, but it feels and looks so much larger now. Our house is so beautiful now. Shout outs to: Kress, Cody, Alfredo, Josh, Lacey, Kurt and everyone else who were great, respectful and polite.

They also replaced the old worn builder-grade linen closet, cabinets in the laundry room, and in the home office. The results are amazing (see pictures attached). Everyone who comes into my home, comments about the beautiful kitchen and bathrooms. The team just completed the kitchen in my mom's Ventura mobile home, and she loves it! She noted at the very beginning of the project how everyone is so professional and friendly. She had a great experience. I always have appreciated that Bill walked me through the layout and the timing of each stage of each project and helped me make design choices based on his years of experience. I was handed a calendar for each project just before they were set to began, and they always stuck to the calendar. In some cases, they were ahead of schedule. But I really want to give a positive shout out to a recent experience I had with WDC last month. I live at the beach, and my Miele dishwasher that's about 5 years old hasn't had any issues whatsoever, except, from being at the beach, and a second home (not used everyday) over time a couple of the racks have deterriorated with some rusting issues. I ordered two new racks online from Miele before Christmas- they were pretty pricy. But they arrived in what I would call 'funky' condition, there were a couple of loose pieces that both myself, and my super handy husband could NOT figure out. I was sure Miele had sent us defective racks... but before I called them, I decided to take them into WDC hoping that someone there would tell me what was going on. I showed up at WDC on a slow weekday afternoon, because I knew this might take some time, and both Martez Houffen (Sales/Order Fulfillment) and Robert MacDowell (Store Manager/Sales) were a little perplexed with the racks well. At first. But, with EXCELLENT customer service, they took the time to see that the racks were assembled perfectly. Problem solved. WDC is my go to for all of my applicance needs! Thanks Robert and Martez, you made my day!

We made two major purchases from them since we moved to Oxnard, the first was for a Samsung refrigerator that they sold us a 3rd party warranty for. I am pretty sure the reason they don't sell you an extended warranty from the manufacturer (you will get an offer to buy one from the manufacturer if you register your purchase with them) is because they are NOT a Factory Authorized Dealer. I know more than a little about this as I worked for IBM Corporation for 32 plus years and held jobs in sales and sales management that also included managing the relationships with our business partners. There was and is always a fringe of what are called "gray" marketeers who buy factory seconds (defective and/or damaged products or factory returns. It's easy to spot when you walk in the door, there are dozens of manufacturers products on the floor, but delivery can be sketchy and you need to check the products out both in and out of the box. Our Samsung refrigerator was broken more than it worked, the third party warranty company was nationwide, but the actual repair was performed by companies that employed primarily men dressed in paramilitary clothing who spoke bad English and had obviously no formal training from the manufacturer. WDC would ask you call them first, but they were slow in placing our service call so I tracked down a number to the third party directly and eventually got referred to a manager in Dallas, TX who was a decent guy and promised that if our refrigerator broke one more time he would replace it. It did, he lived up to his word, and we got a check in the mail. Remember you are not me, I have thirty two years of training and experience working with a wide range of customers and I can be the last person you want calling you. Not too long after the purchase of the refrigerator we made a much bigger purchase that included: dishwasher, oven. hood and range top. I know, and yes, I didn't claim to always be smart. This time WDC sold us a different 3rd party warranty, Allstate, as in someone bought a piece of the Sear's empire out of a bankruptcy court. Here's a helpful hint, when you go into a WDC store ask to meet the General Manager or get a card from that person, it you do that's like the golden ticket from Willy Wonka. There is no such person, they are all random sales people and if you pursue it they will transfer you to their main location in Moorpark, it's also their HQ. The owner and manager does not live in California and is semi-retired, that is what they told me . The woman who answers the phone is a pit bull and called me a liar and threatened to call the police if I showed up at the door. So much for satisfaction guaranteed. Do yourself a favor and stay clear of WDC, you get what you pay for in this world and and they are bad news and you could end up with defective products that make your life a nightmare.
