Amazing beers here. These are also the best burgers and appetizers that I have had in Appleton.

I bought a 6 pack of their beer. Every bottle foamed all of the counter upon opening. To drink it I had to pour each 12 oz bottle into a half gallon picture and let the foam settle for a half hour before it could be re-poured into a glass. At what this beer costs I expect a quality product every 6 pack and every bottle. I will never buy their beer again. read more

Service was excellent, our waitress was flawless. It runs seat yourself outside. The Cajun pasta was very good, burgers were 4/5. Beer was pleasant but not exceptional. Overall, great setting and fabulous service, but the beer and food were slightly above average. read more

Can't go wrong from top to bottom of the menu. Great pizzas, burgers, and the Friday fish fry is out of this world. I highly suggest the Vanilla Stout. Big fan of the chicken bacon ranch pizza, and the crab cake sandwich is one of the best I have had. Went based on previous reviews but found the price and quality a bit mismatched. Sat at the bar and found the bartenders to be friendly enough. However I ordered dinner and found it very average to even a little disappointing. Also the appetizer and sandwich came out at the same time and that should never happen. I was working so did not try the beer. But I hope they brew better than they cook. read more

We absolutely LOVED this place! It's such a unique setting in the cellar. Very cool! A great variety of their craft beer. We enjoyed a Honey Wheat Ale and a Blueberry Wheat Ale. The food menu was extensive. My husband had the Mac and Cheese (four cheeses and sausage) and I had the Elk Pastrami Wrap. Both were delicious. I highly recommend this place. read more

After walking in and standing next to the "wait to be seated" sign for several minutes and being ignored by the weird and rude bartender who finally told us to seat ourselves, we sat down. Then my husband had to flag down the waitresses who all seemed to not want to take our table, we explained that the weird bar guy told us to sit wherever we wanted. We came to try the impossible burger after seeing it advertised on the whalburger's show. It was a huge disappointment. Very dry, tiny thin slice of avocado that didn't cover half of the dry patty, one ring of raw onion, and about a half a slice of tomato. There was NO sauce or anything else on it, again very DRY. My husband tried the beer Mac and cheese. For an $18 meal, they really ripped us off. Only 4 or 5 pieces of sausage and a very small portion size. I bet it would cost less than $3 to make at home. I am from Ohio and was passing through Appleton, WI with my fiance, and I have to say this is my favorite restaurant that I've been to. Great beer! I loved their vanishing vanilla stout and their homemade root beer. My fiance is a home-brewer and he was impressed with the rest of the beers on the menu. The food at Stone Cellar is always very good. My girlfriend and I have had many things on the menu from dinners and sandwiches to appetizers and desserts, and are almost never disappointed. They have a great variety of house brewed beers to go along their excellent food, much of which is locally grown and organic. Some people do not like the atmosphere, it is in a basement and is a bit dark, but I think it adds character. read more

We were only there once, but it was very good. The cheese curds appetizer was slightly different but delicious. The cheese is creamier than other curds. My husband said his burger was spectacular :-) The artichoke hummus wrap was one of the best wraps I've ever had too. We'll go back soon!!! Only downside is parking! There isn't enough of it and definitely not enough handicapped parking. We're young, so a little walk is good for us. But that maybe might not be a concern for some people. It's a hilly area too, so be careful of ice patches in the winter. read more

I love their beer garden and like to go when they have music on the patio. I'm not a huge fan of the inside - it's very dark and the decor feels a little outdated. Personally, I'm not big on their standard beers either, but some of the specialized beers they've recently rolled out in the tap room are great! Their food has been hit or miss. I'd recommend just going with a burger if you're going to eat there. Overall, everything here is okay, but they do have one of the best outdoor seating area in the valley & some cool barrel-aged beers that are only available in their tap room. read more

This might be the best restaurant I've ever been to. The wait is usually a couple of hours. I called ahead and waited for less than 10 minutes. When I was seated, our very friendly waiter took our order. She got me something that wasn't on the menu, a flight of sodas made at the restaurant. Excellent. We then ordered cheese curds and they were amazing. Ordered pizza which was again amazing. Great menu, drink choices were also great, amazing and nice waitress, pretty great atmosphere, all around great restaurant. Would come back if I ever come back to Appleton. I posted a review a while ago and I stand by my review of the food. But now there is a new menu with higher prices. I have no problem paying more for good food but they almost doubled the prices. If they had a seating problem before, try won't now. We usually had to wait for a seat but the last time we went we were seated right away. It was my wife and I only. The bill was almost 60. It used to be around 30. We had eaten there a lot because of the good food and good prices. We are now in search of a new favorite place... read more

I started with the chips and artichoke dip. The chips were out of a bag and stale. Then I had a Reuben sandwich. There was, in my opinion, about enough meat for half the sandwich. Disappointing. The ambiance was that of an unfinished basement. The highlight was the beer sampler which was quite good. My wife ordered the Shepard Pie which according to her was "alright". I am baffled by all the love for this place. Yes, they do have a five star collection of craft beers, they make a good fried cheese curd (an aside: get a grip it's only fried cheese sheeple!) and they locally source their food. Outside of those 3 positives, I have found the service to be terminally slow, the wait staff friendly, but a tad on the incompetent side, and the food average. The menu could be interesting (although it's a little heavy on fried items) but in reality, a place that makes makes a good snitzel probably hasn't mastered an Indian curry. The elk burger (ordered medium rare) was overcooked and tough because of that error. Elk is lean, you can't over cook it. The duck tenders were heavily coated and overfried. The grilled salmon was the highlight of the evening, presented simply yet elegantly. The walleye (fried) was moist inside yet had too much batter on the outside. The server forgot the 2 salads and soup that came with the meal, so I can't review them. Tip: go for the beer! The pumpkin spice ale and vanilla stout almost made me forget how mediocre this place is. read more

I've been here several times. The brews are a must try if you enjoy a good beer. I have yet to have a poorly cooked meal. Presentation on the plates is somewhat left to be desired on some dishes. i.e. the Walleye fillet. Also, the sides with some dishes are rather non-existent. They should re-work the menu to find sides that match the main course of the meal better. Instead of having just the main portion of the meal and one side. The other upside to the Stone Cellar is their use of locally raised/grown items on their menu. i.e some of the meats for the burgers and steaks. Their support for locally sustainable food is commendable, which is more than can be said for 95% of the other restaurants in the Fox Valley. read more

The beer is great it's cozy nice atmosphere and the service is great. Had not been there in a while and the prices really jumped. The sandwich I had was mostly bread. Hiding inside was a chunk of meat. The sweet potato fries were shoe string size. Disappointed would not return for food but would go to the bar. Good brews. read more
