I've visited this optometry office twice over the past couple of years, and after this most recent visit, I'm done. The most uncomfortable part of my experience is how both the doctors and staff address gaps in care. If you haven't been seen in a few years, they bring it up sharply--almost like you're being scolded for not coming in sooner. It's awkward and unnecessary, and it comes across as if they assume they're the only optometry office in town. Our family has gone elsewhere and had far better experiences without the judgment. The sales staff is another issue. They are very rigid and come off as rude--no warmth, no smiles, just transactional and cold. As for service follow-through, it's been frustrating. When my recent glasses were ordered, I was never called to pick them up. They acknowledged that mistake, and I was understanding about it. However, this was also the first time I've ever had an issue with a prescription. I returned to explain the problem, and they sent the glasses out to be corrected. Again, I waited for a call--nothing. After about a month and a half, I finally called and was told the glasses had been ready for weeks. I'm still using my old prescription and technically need to go back again to get this resolved, but at this point, I'd rather start over somewhere else. Between the scolding tone, lack of communication, and overall unwelcoming environment, it's just not worth it. You can absolutely find a more professional, comfortable, and customer-focused experience elsewhere. I'd recommend avoiding this place. read more

They don't follow their posted hours? I work, so can't make it there at 5:00. No worries! GPS has them open until 5:30. Yes, I know GPS isn't their website, but I use it daily and it's never been wrong. (Do you have a different experience? I'd love to know if this was an unreasonable expectation on my part). I showed up at 5:03. (February 12, 2026). A twenty-something kid meets me at the door. I see some straggling customers still inside. I tell her I'm here to pick up some glasses. Now, sometimes that's a whole time-consuming thing, with fitting and sizing and conversation - but sometimes it's just handing over the case w/glasses inside. Such was to have been the case for me - no adjustments necessary. She tells me "unfortunately we're closed." That's when I checked the time - 5:03. I don't want to be that guy and argue "posted" closing time with this youngster, but Really? No questions or conversation, no checking to see what was possible- just 'nope' and 'shoo!' I left without any conversation after this but t sticks with me. These glasses have been waiting for weeks for me to pick them up because it's just that hard for me to make it there during store hours. Now I find out the store hours don't even go to 5:30!! It's literally impossible for me to make it by 5:00- if that is in fact their actual hours! (How did I get the original fitting? What time was it then? Good question! I've been a customer for years and this has never happened before, but this is how easy it is to erase years of positive reputation. read more

I made an appointment here because I am a pt of Dr. Bhutani. I started seeing her at Target Optical and was told she wasn't there anymore, so I looked her up on google and was happy to see she was still in town. I had a bad previous optometry experience where the physician's office just closed down permanently and was no where to be found. I don't like starting over and trying to find a new provider who you feel comfortable with. If you're looking for a great eye Dr. that makes you feel comfortable and welcomed this is the place. The staff was very friendly. When I was brought back I was helped by Miriam. She was attentive and professional. Not sure how long she's worked here, but you can tell she knows what she's doing. She made me feel at home and didn't make me feel pressured, she took my eye pictures and tests with ease. More offices should have employees like her. She had a great personality and looked like she loved her job. After my appointment it was time to select my glasses and the gal that helped me afterwards was also very pleasant. I didn't catch her name, but she went over a few things with me before checking out. I never knew this office was here, but the office doesn't seem old. The office is clean and their equipment looks new. The wait time was not long at all. I probably waited 15min before the Dr. came into the room. They have a good range of name brand glasses selection. Name brand doesn't matter to me, if they look nice then I'll get it, but if you like name brand glasses then they have a big variety here. I have been going there for years. I confirmed my appointment the day before but woke up with a sore throat. They will be charging me a $25.00 fee for the cancellation. I get it. But still unhappy as I really do not have control of this. They should of waived the fee. Not good. read more

I paid close to $300 for a pair of glasses they said would be done in 1 to 2 weeks. I called at the end of 2 weeks they told me they would call me back before closing. never got that call. here we are at 3 1/2 weeks and I call again and get the run around and they should be in next week. he said he would call the lab to double check that time and call me back , he hung up on me mid question. We have a large family. We tried to make an appointment for just 4 of them and the receptionist literally said we can only make appointments for 2 family members per day because we'd be taking up slots that "other" patients could use if we don't come in!(we're trying to make these appointments to ACTUALLY go in because we need to, not because we want to). Who runs a business like that!? We told the gal to remove us from them and we'd no longer be going there. I'm sure we will find another establishment that'll gladly take our whole family at once if need be. I have been going to this optometrist since I moved to Bakersfield six years ago. The office has a very upscale look, is always clean, the staff is always friendly and professional, and the optometrists really know what they are doing. They really care about their patients. Karena, one of the intake staff members is amazing and so very friendly. She really enjoys her work and said it is like family at the office and they have fun. It really isn't work to her. I had lost my glasses and needed a new pair ASAP and my Prescription was expired and they said they couldn't extend it I asked to speak to the optometrist about trying to get a new one and he declined to talk to me what kind of service is that. On October 1st I had an eye appointment and it was determined that I needed new lenses. I picked out new frames and they were ordered that day. I was given an estimate of 2 weeks for them to arrive. I hadn't heard anything by the 16th of October, past the 2 week mark so I called to check on them. Coincidentally, they had arrived that morning. I was given no explanation for why I was not called, but I accepted that they may just not have gotten around to it. I went that afternoon only to discover that they had transposed a number when they made the order and the frames were the wrong ones. So we had to reorder. I was told they would be put in as a rush and would perhaps take a week. They apologized for the error. I hadn't heard from them and it had been over 3 weeks since they re-ordered the glasses. They didn't call to apologize for the delay, or to let me know the status. So I called, and by another coincidence, they said they had arrived just the day before. I asked why I had not been called when they arrived and was told that the lenses were testing as too strong a prescription on one of their machines and the person was waiting for someone to double check it. The person I spoke to said she tested them four times (While I was on hold) and they showed as correct now. I do not know if this is an issue with their equipment or with their staff. I asked why it took over three weeks if they were put in as a rush job. I was told they don't really have any control over the lab. I asked why the offered a rush if they have no control over the lab. The woman I spoke to send they include it in the notes as a request and sometimes it can help. I was able to get my glasses the next day without incident. I paid for my glasses 6 weeks ago and have had to do all of the communication to get them. No one ever reached out to me via phone or email. I am not sure when, or even if, I would have been contacted if it was left up to them. Between them ordering the wrong frames, not communicating with me, and answers to questions that seem suspicious at best, I have been very unhappy with the service. The eye doctor I met with was great, but if you are in need of glasses I would suggest taking your business elsewhere. read more

We received 2 messages saying that the prescription glasses are available for pick up but when we arrived at the facility, they cannot find the prescription glasses. Denise was not very accomodating and not friendly either, told me that I have to come back because her colleagues were on their lunch break. Its not easy to bring kids out to get their prescription glasses at this time. The ladies on the front were at least helpful. read more

That is what the five stars are for the lady that you see next for the glasses is rude and told my husband you will not be able to see until your eyes get "used" to the new prescription that was the whole damn reason we got rid of southwest eye care is rude staff and messing up glasses after 4 times of getting them.. this is our first time here and might be our last.. I am just floored someone could be such a bold rude person.. Maybe she is having a bad day I don't know and care either your job is to help people not make them feel like they are inconvenienced you.. rubbed me the wrong way I am sitting in the car now waiting for my husband because she was pushing my buttons and she's lucky I kept my mouth shut! read more

I was so excited to get new glasses from this place. I went in on June 2nd. I was told that my glasses would be ready for pick up in two weeks. I didn't get a call until 6/20. Went in 6/21 to pick them up and as I was trying them on I noticed another pair of actual lenses with my glasses. I asked the person why they were there and he told me it was because they were the display glasses. I splurged 500+ on just a vision exam and even went ahead and bought the damn Gucci frames there just to be told I was getting the ones everyone tried on as a display !? The right leg or arm is loose compared to the left. I'm contemplating asking a refund for the frame to be quite honest. read more

Hands down, this is the best optometry office in all of Bakersfield. It has been in town for a long time serving the community. I have so many friends and family that have been coming here for years. First off, the building is beautiful! There are large pillars outside and a huge chandelier with bright lights when you first walk in. If definitely gives off a grand and luxurious feel. Right when I walk in, there is always a friendly receptionist that greets me. The waiting area has plenty of seating and lots of magazines for me to read. However, I never have to wait that long before being called in. Inside, there is even a beautiful running fountain. It makes me feel so relaxed and calm. I have never seen a fountain in an optometrist's office before! Not only is there a fountain inside the office, but there is another fountain and mural just outside the optical area which can be seen through huge floor to ceiling windows. Definitely unlike any other optometry office I have ever been too. Plus they have a private parking lot and parking is never a problem. The doctors here are AMAZING. Last year I saw Dr. Bhutani and this year I saw Dr. Aoyama. Both are so kind and knowledgable. I can tell they really care about their patients because they always take the time to explain things to me and answer all of my questions. I have a very high prescription and get concerned with my eyes so I always have a lot of questions whenever I come in for my eye exam. Both Dr. Bhutani and Dr. Aoyama were patient with me and thoroughly answered all my questions making me feel comfortable. They have a HUGE selection of glasses for men and women! I always love getting a new pair of glasses, especially glasses with some character which Stockdale Optometry has a lot to choose from. Some of the brands they carry that I love are Tiffany & Co, Michael Kors, Tory Burch, and Ray Bans. It was so hard to decide but I chose a pair of Tiffany & Co frames which I love because of the bling on the sides (by the way, the glasses are under warranty so if any of the crystals fall off, I can get them repaired at no additional cost!). When I picked up my glasses, they came in a beautiful Tiffany blue case and bag. I also ordered a year supply of contacts from them. Before, I always ordered my contacts from 1-800 Contacts but I found out that their prices are EVEN CHEAPER!!! So I ordered a year supply of contacts from them which they shipped to my house at no additional cost and I received the contacts in just a few days! Wayyyy better than 1-800 Contacts! Honestly, the prices here are reasonable and fair. There are plenty of frames that are under $200 if you are on a budget. The staff in the optical area are super friendly and nice. I never feel pushed to purchase specific frames and they give me great advice on which frames fit my face best. Overall, the service here is exceptional. They really cater to the needs of the patient and everyone is always super friendly and nice. I will be returning for years to come! read more

Very very disappointed came in to get new glasses and when I receive them I cannot even see out of them they said they explain to me that this was gonna be just for distance and not for closeness I suppose I didn't understand however I've just spent $250 for nothing and there's nothing they can do I'm very sad that I was not properly educated on something I know nothing about. read more

Apparently they do not take my insurance but then I have called, look them up via my insurance and gone in--- they do take it. It made me feel like they didn't want to do the due diligence to actually check on my insurance and talking to them over the phone they're rude. I won't go back. read more

We just gotten two eye glass prescriptions from Dr. Lindguist(sp?). Crystal Clear viewing. For both of us. Be prepared that Lindguist is meticulous. So that your Perfect Glasses exam may take little longer. We both are totally satisfied. Just to be known. From near 15+ years Loyalty I, however, take my Lindguist glasses prescription to Frank at Optical Eyewear on 16th street. And usually get my glasses in a week. Longer if two types tint coating from different vendors are required(prescription sunglass). Cource Frank knows exactly how I like my glasses seated. And Yes. I feel very Sorry I did'nt get my Lens at Stockdale Optometry. Tho when SO have a Great Frame I want I just get it. Ive learned over the years... Frames Styles may not always be available. So buy how many you want before they disappear off the Earth. I have gotten 4 prescriptions from Dr. Lindguist over the years. We will continue coming here. read more

We have been going here for years now. They are very kind and work well with you. Everything from the eye exam to choosing your frames, and that can take a while for me. But they just let you take your time picking what you want. They contact you when your glasses are ready so they can be fitted for you. I recommend them if your looking for a new place. read more

Worst customer service! I went to pick up my son's glasses, that had been ready for months. However when I went in, they stated he couldn't be fitted without an appointment...I had 3 messages from the office and no one conveyed the new policy info?! (I work full time and taking time off is hard, thus 3 months later) Also, the place was empty!! 3 or 4 employees sitting around and they wouldn't fit him for his glasses!! Excellent customer service, friendly, wonderful staff, really deserving of the 5 stars although Stockdale Optometry goes beyond that! Was checked in on a Wednesday morning, throughly examined and was all set to go in like 40 mins!! Keep in mind that at-least 15 of those minutes I had used to choose my awesome new glasses ! Which arrived no later than a couple of days, along with my contacts ! Was provided information and the Dr. and staff were able to answer all of my questions !
