Jeff and Corey are both phenomenal individuals with whom to work here. They are very professional and concise in their thoughts and do not deter from working with all types of clients. As an everyday person, they made me feel welcomed just as much as they did for what I'd consider their upper echelon of clientele. This is a high-end alterations establishment, and when I needed to get a dress altered for my grandmother's funeral this weekend, they were willing to take on the job despite my being rejected by several other alteration establishments before, as it is wedding season and a lot of alteration places are weeks and even months into working with other people's garments for altering. I did pay dearly for it, but if something had to be fixed on the dress, they did so. I had to return after they turned it around in one day to get the initial dress completely finished, but still time to spare for this weekend. When you go to get alterations, you want to feel valued, welcomed and heard. I felt all of these things when I was here. They set a high bar for customer service. Jeff, the owner, mentioned working with the same seamstress for 38 years! That is wonderful. Jeff also does pet paintings and has various ties, libation recipe books, and other miscellaneous items for sale. I bought a libation recipe book for my husband, and he was really appreciative of it. Purchased some nice slacks from a local store that included a complimentary hemming service from Stitch It. I thought GREAT now I don't have to take the time to do it myself, even though I am able. Stopped in and a clerk greeted me with a blase (at best) attitude and I told him I just wanted to hem them to a specific inseam measurement and he became quite condescending and argumentative about that stating emphatically they would not be right and that he would not guarantee his work. I was taken aback by his rude and arrogant treatment of customers. Now, I know that hemming is little more than a time consuming task - it'll take me a couple of hours to do a superior job - but it's not difficult even if you do an invisible hem. So I left with my new slacks to hem at home since I CAN guarantee my own quality workmanship. Once I got in the car I remembered that the last time I had patronized that business was at least two decades ago when I ordered two custom mens business shirts for my husband as a Christmas present. They weren't inexpensive. But when they arrived they were very undersized and did not fit even though Stitch It staff had measured for the shirts in house. They acted then much like they acted today that they really wouldn't stand by the quality of their work. Glad I got a free reminder of what kind of business this is this time instead of having wasted money on un-wearable shirts. What a shame to be so miserable in your own skin that you have to go out of your way to make your customers feel uncomfortable and unappreciated. read more

Do not go here if you're not an old rich white person. I was told that the turn around would be one week with an expedition fee over the phone. Drove almost an hour there and was immediately belittle the second I walked in. I counted 3 sighs and eye rolls within the 10 minutes I was there. An hour later I received a call informing me it would now be 4 weeks before I could expect my alterations. Apparently all of a sudden they had to prioritize other clients after I paid in full. I've been in half a dozen times over the years. I've had coats taken in, dresses hemmed up, and personalized projects. One Christmas I brought in six blankets to have personalized with names, and they did an amazing job. So last Christmas, I called to say I wanted to come in and have a scarf monogrammed, and was told they were "overrun" with orders and was given the names of a few other places nearby to try instead. Okay, I wrote it off as a fluke. So last week when I was at Disney and there was a three hour wait to personalize hats, I said "eh, I'll have Stitch-It do it when I'm back home." I was told, "We don't do this." "Oh? Weird. I'm sure I've had this done here before." "Yes, but we just can't do this anymore." Again I was given the names of alternative places. So I guess they've decided more piddly jobs isn't worth their time anymore? Aiight. The job they do is beautiful... if your job is worth their time and they decide to take it. This place is excellent. The short version is I had two Armani suits I needed tailored and they did a phenomenal job. For one of them, the store in Italy somehow accidentally gave me the wrong size pants during checkout (too small, and European suits are often very tight to begin with). I really loved the suit, but because of the pants - which I could barely squeeze into and left nothing to the imagination from top to bottom - it pretty much came down to selling it, throwing it away, or somehow getting the pants tailored quite a bit larger (a job I'd already been told was a long shot). My hairstylist had a couple of clients who used Stitch-It & Co and loved them, so I figured I'd see if they could help. The store is awesome, and they were pretty confident the pants could be tailored to fit. In no time, they measured me for both suits and I was out of there. I just got them back and tried them on, and had to review them right away. They are perfect. On top of that, my second suit (which was a bit more straightforward for tailoring), was incredibly well-done. I used some great tailors for suits, pants, shirts and Tuxedos when I lived in LA, but the jacket I got tailored here is probably the best I've ever had done. I only had them do the pants on my first suit because the jacket already fit well, but after seeing their work on the second suit's jacket, I'm going to take the first one in and get it tailored too. You are going to thank me! I have found the perfect alterations place. Stitch-It is located in convenient Green Hills. Anything I have taken there has turned out perfect. The alterations ladies in there know what they are doing. I have never heard anything other than glowing reports on this place. The staff is polite and courteous. Efficient too! They want you to be happy with the way your clothes turn out, so they really take time to make sure the fit is correct. Usually they tell you that they'll have your order done in a couple of days, but I've taken my jeans to be hemmed when they called me the next morning. And it's right on the money. I hate guys who can't even sew buttons back on their shirts. I've heard of people who donate the shirts to Goodwill rather than try to mend them. I'm not that kind of guy, but when it comes to hemming some pants or some other tricky things, I'm happy to let a professional do it. I searched and searched for an alteration place, tried out a few, and I think Stitch-It is great. The staff is very friendly and professional. They measure you and make sure they know what needs to be done. I think it was a pretty fast turn around time from what I remember. I may have thought it was a little pricey, but it was quality work that I didn't have any problems with. I think my only complaint with the place would be that they do not have a lot of hours so it can be hard to get back in to the shop during the week. Quality is a word that shouldn't be abused as to reinforce better from best. The guys and gals of Stitch-It are far and away the best in the area of Nashville at what they do. From the moment you walk in, you know that your every need will be met and exceeded. I've been taking all of my items there for many years now. They took time to go over patterns with me that matched my suit, took careful measurements and confirmed that with how I would like my fit, and when the time came to pick up my shirt...I not only had one shirt, they surprised me with two, simply for my patronage. I bought some new jeans that needed to be altered and got quite a few recommendations on tailors to alter them. However, I am a creature of convenience and laziness quite honestly - so I went to Stitch it as it is right beside the gym and the liquor store. I was already going to these places so why not try them out? I walked in, immediately was put in a dressing room, and the jeans were measured and pinned. She even checked the waist of the jeans to make sure that didn't need any tweaking (without me asking). Then I had to choose between original seam or not. Sure, original seam please. FOR THIRTY DOLLARS! EACH! Holy shit balls, that pretty much offed the savings I had from buying the jeans on sale. Jeeza. The place I went in Dallas was only $12 for original seams on the jeans and they all look perfect. Clearly I am not in Dallas anymore and if this is the going rate then I'm cool with it, but still I was SHOCKED I tell you! Got a phone call this morning saying the jeans were ready. They told me Friday but this was actually less than 24 hours after I dropped them off! Nice - appreciate the quickness. Made me feel a little better about the cost. Slightly. I had to cruise by the bank to get $$ out since they do not take plastic at all. Quite the pain in the ass, but I understand that credit cards take some of the profit off the business and it would likely just make the alterations more expensive for you and me. Jeans look great - nice quality work. I still don't know how they do that with the original hems - so cool! However, I am going to continue on my hunt for a more economical place to get my jeans and other items hemmed because I really can't justify that kind of cash every time I buy a pair of already expensive jeans! read more

Oh. My. God. I've been searching for a new tailor for close to a year now and THESE GUYS ARE IT. I walked in with an armful of clothes (literally. 7 dresses, 3 skirts and a few tops). Ryan, Jenny and Jeffrey (the owner) all greeted me with smiles and I waltzed straight to a dressing room. Let the fun begin! Jenny patiently spent the next 2.5 hours with me tucking, pinning, retucking and pinning to perfection. Jeffrey would check in and offer his encouragement (lovely dress! That will look great. Pull it in this way) and Jenny was super pleasant. I appreciated the following most: 1) Jenny offered ways to save money while still receiving quality finished pieces 2) She spent sooo much time shifting and gathering and tucking and pinning to ensure everything would be perfect. 3) When she noticed I was cold she brought over a small heater and apologized for the temp! 4) They gave me a run down of the pricing per piece and what they were doing to each piece I dropped my items on a Friday morning and they were all ready on Tuesday. SO FAST. I know a lot of people gripe about the cost but let me point out a few things that make it worth it, to me: 1) Jeffrey is the owner and is there daily. He wants to ensure everyone is happy! 2) These are NASHVILLIANS. I love that. 3) They greet everyone by name, as soon as they know it. 4) They offered ways to save money. It may be more expensive, but the ambiance and service are so worth it. I've dropped items before and had to wait two weeks for them and the cost difference was not much less than Stitch It. On average, I spent about $40 per piece, but I had a LOT of changes to make. They are only open on weekdays during business hours, which isn't always the most convenient, but their location in Green Hills, where I run many errands, is usually easy enough to swing by. Their work is impeccable, whether they're repairing a garment or hemming and fitting a bridesmaid's dress. I always know my wardrobe is in good hands. Occasionally I'm disappointed in the prices, but they're still the most reliable in town. Here's my problem: I have spartan thighs and I'm overly-dynamic with the way I go about... idk... walking (apparently)? Because it's now almost a rite-of-passage for any pair of jeans/pants/khakis that I buy to slowly (but surely) rip at the crotch. Yeah, I could probably make jokes about sizes of this or that... but this is SRS BSNSS! :0 For real, my pants rip. A lot. So finding a place that could not only stitch them up, but stitch them up GOOD before work tomorrow was today's imperative goal. And thus I pulled out my trusty iPhone, loaded up Yelp, and found this place. Called them, they said they could do it. Off I went. When I got there, they were super prompt and ready to serve my King Leonidas-shaped-legs' needs. I left them there around noonish and got a call from them by 2ish. Well worth the $10 rush charge. Now, when I left my battered pants there, I was joking when I said they "needed to use the Jesus of patches," but I guess they took me seriously because they stitched the hell out of both the holes I left in my pants. They used a very generous triangle shaped patch to cover both of the problem spots and absolutely murdered with the stitching. I mean, mannnn, they didn't hold back. I honestly don't think I could tear those holes open again if I went on a run with razor blades hanging from my... never mind. BASICALLY, for the money, I'd rather pay out a little bit more [$25 for one pair, $18 for the other, $10 rush charge] and not have to worry about the quality of work than to pay bottom dollar and constantly sweat the anxiety that my tree trunk muscles will burst forth again into the light while I'm doing whatever goddamn calisthenics I apparently do when I walk. That and I'm an odd-shape at 5'5" but muscular... so finding jeans or pants that fit, look good, and hold up over time is something I cherish. I'd rather save 'em than change 'em. Last but not least: bring cash. I saw a sign behind the register that said they don't take credit or debit. read more

Stitch-It is the kind of alterations place you can take any article of clothing to, to have any kind of alteration done. If you want to piece together a few different articles of clothing to make a brand new article of clothing, I'm sure you could take it to Stitch-It and they would do a great job. They'll do original hems on jeans and pants. My jeans came out very well as did my shorts, which I had the waist taken in on. The only draw back, and honestly it's a big one for me, is - it will cost a million dollars. Now, if you're having a wedding dress altered you would expect this kind of fee. But I'm talking jeans and shorts. Even with original hems... it can be done well for less than a million dollars. Just beware. You are paying for extremely quality work. I've been coming to them for years - they are the best. My most recent job involved a rush job on alterations to two pairs of suit pants. I needed them for an awards show and a wedding. They were able to turn them in two days with a very small rush fee. The alterations were perfect - you couldn't tell the pants had been altered. They even texted me on s Sunday to let me know they were done. And they also take all credit and debit cards now as well. This is the only place I will go to get my suits done. read more

Stitch-It is owned by a family friend. We've watched them grow from a shabby-ish spot in the old Green Hills HG Hills strip parking lot to their current location which is super cute. The painted potted plants on the outside and just about all of the canvasses on the inside are the work of Stitch-It's owner, Jeff Loring. Isn't it kind of nice to know you have a truly creative kind of person working on your clothes rather than someone who is just looking to make a buck? Jeff and his staff take great pride in their work, they are quick, and they take care of their customers. They also do monogramming and embroidery although I haven't tried out those services yet. Note that you need to hang on to your orange ticket in order to retrieve your clothes and they don't take any form of plastic - no credit and no debit. So bring your cash or check to pay. read more

Excellent tailor! I had to get a tuxedo coat and pants re-fit. They returned my it in 24 hours and I could not believe how well it fit. Not a loose thread and it didn't need any more alterations. Their fitting spaces are commodious and their staff is incredibly knowledgeable. I wasn't sure what fit to get on my tuxedo pants and the person doing my measurements was able to help me visualize the different cuts and get the perfect look for me. Love these guys! Finally a place that takes the dread out of repairs and tailoring. Took a pair selvedge jeans in for repair after I spilled battery acid on them (which burned a bunch of holes in the legs). They did a phenomenal job on the repair. It was tight and matched up great. They also hemmed them, which was perfect as well. Everyone was super cool, knowledgeable and true pleasure to deal with... and the turn time was quick (a few business days). Two stars may be a bit harsh but they earned it in my eyes. I have two solid reasons why they have lost my business completely. My first experience with them was monograming. I had a simple lunch box ($7 from Container Store) that I wanted monogramed. I gave them easy instructions which included centering the monogram, which they failed to do. It it so off-center it looks silly... and to top it off the letters were all different sizes. I asked for first-Last-middle and the first and middle where different sizes! it just looks sloppy. It's almost as if they did it really fast, last minute. The funny part is it took TWO WEEKS!! A two inch monogram took two weeks and cost $20. *sigh* I should have learned my lesson but I didn't. Jcrew recommended them to alter my wedding dress (which was obviously Jcrew) The older lady who worked there immediately began cutting down the dress right when I walked in the store with the jcrew garment bag. Her exact words were "This dress is poor quality" and then she began saying how the dress did nothing for my figure and I needed more to enhance my chest. Advice that I did not ask for. On top of cutting down my wedding dress, telling me she would not alter it because it was poor quality, and telling me what would look "best" on my body, she began to recommend wedding dress shops that I should look at for a new dress. It was heart breaking to say the very least. I left in tears. I then took the dress to another alterations shop which said they would gladly alter it. I have since been taking my monograming needs to Custom Embroidery off Harding Pike. Just today I picked up a monogramed tie that took them ONE DAY to do, looks amazing and cost five dollars less. Granted i've never had them taylor anything (since they denied me) so their work may be amazing, but the rude, snobby ambiance of the shop is not worth my time or money. I also did some research and found that i'm not the only one who has been denied alterations. Other review websites show some pretty amazing denial stories as well. Sad. read more

This review is LONG overdue! I visited Stitch-It in June 2013 In brief: Stitch it did an EXCELLENT job on my dress and I was extremely pleased. I needed it done in a rush and they were able to accommodate me. Given the tight turnaround, and the work that needed to be done, I didn't mind paying a premium. The service and results far exceeded my expectations. Complete Experience: I was attending a convention in Nashville, TN and had ordered an evening gown online a week before (admitted procrastinator tendencies). The gown was a navy blue Tadashi Shoji evening gown with sequins and an intricately designed lace and sheer layered bodice. The gown was a tad bit too long and there was a bulge in the back. The dress arrived a few days before I was scheduled to fly out to Nashville and I knew I wouldn't have time to get it tailored before leaving. I found a few Nashville area tailor shops on Yelp, read the reviews and decided I might try Stitch-It. I also saw a few cleaners that advertised they performed tailoring services, but they (quite frankly) didn't give me the warm and fuzzies. Stitch-It was about a 30 minute drive from the Gaylord Hotel where I was staying, so before taking a taxi that far, I decided to check with the hotel to see if they had an in-house tailor. When I took the dress to the Gaylord tailor/seamstress (who was the nicest lady ever), she looked at the gown and said "I can hem the bottom....I'd have to do it by hand. The top part though....I won't touch that with a 10ft. pole!" I laughed, but appreciated her honesty in not being able to handle the work that I needed done. I contacted Stitch-It and sent pictures of the dress via text message to a nice young man who's name I can't remember (I think it was Cameron...I could be wrong). They assured me that they should be able to accommodate me, so I hopped a cab and visited Stitch-It. When I arrived I was greeted by courteous and professional staff. I was shown to the dressing room and changed into my gown. My personal tailor was Maggie O'Neill and she was AWESOME! After the fitting and pinning, I left the gown and picked it up in two days. It fit perfectly and was well worth the fee. If I lived in Nashville, I would DEFINITELY use Stitch-It on a regular basis. read more

My sis, who lives in Seattle, made the mistake of having us order our bridesmaid dresses online and the company ended up being a scam company that totally messed up all of our dresses. When I put on the dress, it was about the ugliest thing that has ever been on my body. I'm fairly new to Nashville and decided to try Stitch It after seeing them on Yelp. I'm SO glad I did! Here are some reasons. 1. Maggie was AWESOME!!! She totally reassured me that they could get my dress done by the time I had to head to Seattle for the wedding. She even put a rush order on it without charging me for it, and instead of having it done in 9 days as she told me, it was actually finished in 3 days!!! 2. By the time I was done at Stitch It, Maggie made me feel like I looked like a million bucks in the dress, which, frankly, was a miracle. 3. Maggie first asked me what my budget was and told me exactly what each change was going to cost, then she offered ideas and solutions to save money and keep it within my budget. 4. Maggie even added a hook and eye at the top of the dress and gave me tips on how to fit into it easily. 5. I was given some really good advice for how to dress my body type - Maggie knows what she's talking about! 6. In addition, Maggie showed me a way to make the dress work for my own style (I'm a singer/songwriter with a vintage vibe) and she's going to shorten the dress for me after the wedding. Who ever heard of a bridesmaid dress, especially a previously hideous one, being used for something after the wedding?! Need any additional reasons to take your clothing to Stitch It? I was given really friendly help, Maggie took as much time with me as was needed and she even spent extra time with me when I came to pick up the dress two minutes before they were closing. She made sure I tried it on before I left so it would be perfect and told me that if there was anything I didn't like about the alteration job after I got it home, I could bring it back and they would fix everything to my satisfaction, totally free of charge. I took a dress here that required hemming and closing in of part of the side hem. When I went to pick up the dress, I was shocked that charge totaled $98. They had not given me a quote and I had no idea it would be this costly. I could have bought a brand new dress for $98. I think my overall experience with Stitch-It was probably worth about only a single star, but admittedly part of the issue was me failing to be pushy enough so that's where the second star comes from. If you are a) assertive enough to drive home what you want and/or b) someone they want to impress, I believe you could probably get 5-star worthy work done. Here's what happened. I waited until the last minute to get my bridesmaid dress altered and was willing to pay to get it done right. I was concerned that it was just too big in the bust in a way that strap-shortening wouldn't fix, i.e., it would need to be taken in some at the side-seams, perhaps even have the torso shortened. However when I went in, the lady who pinned the dress said it just needed the straps shortened. She spent all of about 30 seconds paying attention to me, my theory is that she wanted to help the middle-aged woman repeat customer who was next in line behind me when the front desk people told her I was next up, so she rushed through to get to the next person. As a young-ish looking twenty-something I didn't exactly merit star treatment, she was very rushed and a little rough in pinning (seriously, I was done with the fitting in under a minute). They did have the alterations done ahead of schedule, which was great since I dropped it off about two weeks before the wedding. When I arrived to pick it up they just handed it to me (after collecting $45 for just taking the straps up), they did not offer to let me try it on to make sure it fit right. When I got it home to try it on, my intuition about what needed to be fixed was correct. It was still too big in the bust AND now the straps were too short. It was at least wearable (which it wasn't before), but I had to keep pulling the straps to the edges of my shoulders to disguise the fact that there was too much fabric (and to give a little more wiggle room in the straps, which were causing the armholes to dig into my skin since they had been shortened too much). Since I didn't have time to get it fixed I just went with it and it was fine, but not what I thought I would be getting, especially for the money. I wouldn't necessarily be totally against going back, mostly because there don't seem to be other great alteration options in Nashville, but it wouldn't be something I felt great about. If I did ever have to go back, I would definitely make sure to be very clear about what I wanted and ask more questions (not that I think I was unreasonable in assuming a professional tailor knew more than me about how to fix an ill-fitting dress). read more

I dropped a dress off at Stitch-It since it's location is so convenient. If they'd told me they would be charging THIRTY DOLLARS for very simple three-inch hem, I would have taken my dress somewhere else. Kim's Alterations on White Bridge Road would probably charged $10 or less. read more

What a great locally owned business! In today's world it is hard to find good businesses that are locally owned and also where the owner is present! Jeff, the owner, is there daily and works closely with his customers. He and the others at Stictch It truly care about their customers and want their customers to be pleased. I am new to town and have taken a few items there...I have been very pleased! I had several pants hemmed and the quality of work was excellent! I am happy to have found a tailor in Nashville and will definitely use Stitch It in the future! read more
