If you're anywhere near Elkhart, YOU DO. Lucky us!! Things we love: The work in progress Harry Potter closet under the stairs. YEP!!! The amazing staff! The owners are SO community-minded. It's remarkable. Of course, excellent selection of books THE CUTEST kids area Rolling bookshelves for event space (!) Events! And, perhaps, you'll write your OWN novel, about a bookstore, and this will be your model. LOVE!

This place was a huge disappointment. I took my 3-year old granddaughter on an outing and chose…read morethis local bookstore as part of it. She LOVES reading, and I thought it would be fun to visit a local, independent bookstore. It is a used bookstore, which was not clear from website description. The book choices for preschool children were minimal - a single small bookcase of books - most of which were ancient. (There was a Dick and Jane book there if you want to gauge age of the books). The books were poorly organized and many were very worn. As my granddaughter said, "This bookstore is boring." It was a shame as small communities need good bookstores. This wasn't it. I've been to some GREAT small independent bookstores; I know they can be amazing. This was just depressing.

This is one of the best book stores I have ever been to in my life. I just spent half an hour…read moretalking to the owner and getting recommendations for new books and authors and I am definitely coming back. This store is a top tier, independently owned place that people should be lining up for. Her selection of new books is fantastic and her knowledge is second to none. I can't wait to come back to Gathering Volumes and buy more books and if you're reading this review stop what you're doing and go inside. From very young to full grown adult you will find a book worth reading or remembering. If I could give this place more than five stars I would.

This place is a mess! Stacks of books block the genre labels above the shelves, and even the new…read morebooks sections are untidy! Is this supposed to look rumpled and cool somehow? The lone teenage staff member did not greet me, and even put on big headphones for good measure. Having said that, I like their style of having many different new books, rarely seen at other bookstores, available, but in many cases just one of each title. There's nothing more boring than going to the classics section and seeing fifteen different publications of Little Women. Their used books (in the way back by the restroom) seem a lot cleaner and newer than is typical for a used bookshop, which was nice.
