First time trying it today. Soon as you walk in the door the bbq smell hits you and you know it's gonna be good. I got the 1/2 smoked chicken plate with collard greens and baked beans. It came with Texas toast. The chicken absolutely fell off the bone. Tender, fresh, and delicious. Sides were good too. The seasonings and bbq sauce were delicious. The. Ribs. Are. The. Best!! Get the ribs, get the ribs, get the ribs! Will not disappoint! I got the ribs and meat combo, with the pulled pork. The pork was super moist. And, like I mentioned before, the ribs were amazing. The small end was nice and crispy. As the ribs got bigger, the meat got exponentially thicker and moist. You could easily pull the larger bones out. The seasoning on the ribs were a beautiful balance of sweet, savory, and saltiness; definitely umami going on there. No sauce necessary! My husband got the sliced brisket and he said it was the best he'd ever had. He's not a fat eater, but he even savored the fat on the brisket. He also got the Mac & cheese and baked beans. Three stars because the French fries are awesome. Otherwise a hard pass based on what I ordered. You might do better with some other items. The ribs were way too dry. Good smoke. Too much heat. BBQ isn't spicy. That said, both their sauces are spicy. No matter, I don't like them anyway. That's not a Carolina vinegar sauce. The house sweet is just not my taste. They call it sweet. Sweet bbq sauce isn't spicy. The greens are great but I could not eat them. Way too much salt. Dissatisfied diner. The pictures looked great on Yelp!! One word: killer! We were tired and hungry having spent several hours inner tubing down the Bogue Chitto river and not looking forward to the drive back across Lake Pontchartrain with an empty stomach. Thankfully, Stick 'n Bones came up as a nearby restaurant. They are located on what I would consider a side road next to some other restaurants (all closed by Sunday evening) and across the street from a swimming supply store. Potato skins $7.95 - are a MUST. I know you're thinking you've had potato skins before and I'm sure you have. However, let me tell you that these are the best you'll ever try! My guess is that the potatoes were baked, then hollowed, then fried to perfection. The topping with pimento cheese, meat (we tried chicken), and cole slaw was fantastic. Pork plate with 2 sides (baked beans and french fries) $10.95 - was enough for two meals. The pork was moist and just perfect. I can't say enough about the beans and the serving of fries was enough to eat as a meal by themselves. 1/2 rack ribs with 2 sides 15.95 - also fantastic. There was plenty of meat on the bones to feed more than one person (although only one person ended up eating all of them!). The place was busy from when we sat down until when we left. Some customers were familiar with the staff, which was lovely to see. My only regret was not getting chili cheese fries. Being I'm from Florida you may ask how does one find a little BBQ joint in Mandeville, Louisiana? Such a simple answer - YELP and my good friend John L. H. from New Orleans (this guy knows authentic BBQ). Knowing I was going to be in the area there was no doubt I'd take the short detour from my route after exiting the Causeway Bridge and pull in with my appetite in tow. Immediately upon entering and finding a small table near the register we were greeted with a big welcoming smile by our wonderful server - she gave us a couple of menus and took our drink order - as I reviewed all the choices I really wanted a little bit of everything but that would be somewhat ridiculous so I landed on the sliced brisket and smoked chicken and of course I wasn't leaving without a cup of the brisket chili - my better half chose the sliced brisket sandwich and hand cut fries - here's my attempt to describe my experience and believe me it was an experience as any great BBQ should be... Brisket Chili - Wow! This is amazing I should of ordered the bowl - this may sound a little arrogant but it tasted so much like mine - perfect texture - perfect consistency - tender brisket rich complex chili flavor topped with shredded cheddar this definitely could be a meal but that would require at least a quart - this is a must try. Sliced Brisket - awe finally real smoked brisket, so tender, so moist, the smoked flavor radiates through and through I had mine naked because that's the real test but I did sneak a bite of the sandwich - it too was amazing. Smoked Chicken Breast - such a tough one to conquer, its chicken and its nearly impossible to cook to perfection without drying it out, even more so without sauce - well they did it tender, moist and smokey I did dip a few bites to try the sauces table-side it's not required unless your curious - this is great chicken. Sliced Brisket Sandwich - first of all take a look at the bun - you must have fresh quality buns, secondly pile it high with this tender melt in your mouth Brisket drizzles in the hotter less sweet sauce and it's game over - it was an exceptional choice. Hand Cut Fries - fried in fresh clean grease served up hot, I like thin hand cut fries these were perfect they hold the salt well and require no ketchup. Okay it's time for a nap - but with 11 hours in front of me I had to leave without dessert - it was a great experience as I had expected and something I plan to repeat in the future... read more

Can I start by saying I have had BBQ in New Orleans, Baton Rouge and Port Allen and..... Man!! This is some of the BEST bbq I have had during my stay in Louisiana. My 2 day old leftovers tasted like it just came out of the smoker. The beef brisket was cooked to perfection. The meat to fat ratio was perfect, it was moist and juicy and sliced thick enough to enjoy. Other places I have been to made me pick from chopped or moist beef and neither was good but this is how brisket should be prepared and served, thank you. The smoked sausage has a flavor between kielbasa and double d sausage. I am not a fan of Manda (which seems to be popular here) and am unsure if these were them, but they were good. The bbq sauce was good too and we tasted both flavors. If I could suggest a bbq sauce with some heat, would've taken my experience to a whole other level, but they both had a nice flavor. One was tangy and the other thicker and sweet.... nice. For our sides, we had greens and Mac and cheese and both were well seasoned and tasty. A few weeks ago my family discovered Sticks 'n Bones Bar-B-Que on yelp and decided to give it a try. Walked in around 11:15 am on a Saturday and we were the only customers in their, instantly I thought crap, this place isn't going to be any good. We sit down, start looking at the menus, which were paper menus covered in BBQ sauce from previous customers. That was a nice touch. As I was browsing the menu I saw the typical BBQ items: ribs, chicken, pulled pork etc and then waiter tells us about the specials for the day. The first special was the burnt ends meat pies! Well let's just say I ignored everything else he said because in that moment that's all I wanted to eat! So as we waited for our main courses to arrive, we had ordered the chili cheese fries as an appetizer to hold over the 4 kids, and well me really because I was starving. Holy cow the chili cheese fries were a meal in themselves! They were freaking fantastic! I had never see my kids or my wife attack a basket of fries like they had that day! We'll definitely be ordering those again! And then the waiter arrive with the main course, the burnt ends meat pies! They were more than I could have ever imagined from the perfectly fried pie crust to the extra cheesy burnt ends filling inside the crust. These meat pies were to die for! My wife ordered the pulled pork sand which, I imagine she liked it, by the time I looked up from finishing my food it was gone hahaha! We will definitely be going back soon! read more

So, I have eaten Sticks BBQ on several occasions. I like their chicken and I have enjoyed their brisket in the past. This time I ordered some ribs too. The coleslaw and potatoes salad were delicious. The brisket was pretty dry and the ribs had so much sugar or honey on them that they tasted more like candy than a spicy savory dish. read more

Had a LUDICROUS experience!! Called to do take out and was told I could not order 2lbs on sliced brisket. The menu lists prices by the pound but apparently not in this case. It's not like I was asking for 20lbs. Funny if I wanted 4 Brisket Plates with Sides that was available but not straight Meat by the pound. This is a BBQ business. If I ordered salmon and u don't have I understand but Brisket? If you can't produce enough of risk producing enough why be in business. I've had good and bad from them in the past. The ribs are not the "fall off the bone" ribs but they do have a nice smokey flavor. The mac & cheese was very good and the baked beans were delicious. Oh yeah. Honestly, it's about damned time. I feel like I've been lamenting a lack of decent barbecue in and around New Orleans for decades. Last weekend we were on the North Shore for Strawberry Festival and stopped by Sticks N Bones and it couldn't have been better. Just based on what we were smelling while reviewing the menu we massively over-ordered to make sure we went home with a couple of boxes of leftovers. As far as meats go, we had the ribs, sliced brisket, smoked sausage, pulled pork, and chicken wings. All was cooked to perfection - tender, juicy, with tons of flavor without ever seeming over-salted. The taste was driven by the meat itself, as it should be, on a bed of smoke flavor that was present but never got in the way. That can only happen when the pitmaster pays close attention to the moisture of the wood - too dry and this much smoke flavor would have risked coming off too sharp, but as it was the balance was spot-on for everything and added a ton of flavor. When I go to a barbecue place I expect great meat, but also stellar apps and sides, and am often surprised at how many places end up nailing one and not the other. SnB nails them both. We ordered potato skins, mac-n-cheese, potato salad, slaw, beans, and french fries. Looking at that list I'm embarrassed at how many sides we ordered. Hard to believe that there are three or four more that we couldn't get to (looking forward to next time!). All of these were fantastic, with the potato skins earning a special mention. Not your average bar skins, these things were heaped with pulled pork, slaw, and cheese and went fast. Also, with all that was hitting the table we pretty much ignored my son's fries until things were winding down, but these turned out to be some of the best fries I've had anywhere. What else is there to say? Great beer selection, the sauces were fantastic, and the service was prompt and very friendly. It was bustling but we didn't have to wait for a seat. We had the pleasure of talking to the owners, who clearly care a lot about the place and know a ton about great food and how to get it to the table. I would recommend this place to anyone and look forward to our next round. Well worth a trip across the lake for anyone in NOLA. P.S. Those leftovers we brought back never made it to the fridge. Finally found good BBQ on the Northshore. If you're from Hammond you know there isn't good BBQ there either (you'll have to move north in Tangipahoa toward MS) so it's worth the drive out to Mandeville. Sticks 'N Bones is Texas style so I found their strength to be in the brisket and chicken. Everything on the menu is made in-house. House sauce is good though I tend to lean toward the dry rub. Lunch today was chicken wings and fries. The menu said smoked wings, which I assumed was just that. When my co-worker called in the order, they asked her wet or dry. She said that she thought everything is better wet so she told them wet. I agree and would have made that choice myself. What they failed to mention was that the "wet" meant sauce from the firey pits of hell! OMG! I only ate 2 wings and had to give up. They were super spicy. I don't mind a little bit when I am expecting it but this was too much. The fries were really good. Homemade, skin still on, seasoned well, cooked golden brown. And like Chef Ann says "Brown food tastes good!". I was a little aggravated that everyone in our office ordered drinks and they didn't send them. 6 total, not sent. My husband and I absolutely love this joint! We agree that it is, by far, the best BBQ on the Northshore. We always order at least half a dozen of the smoked wings without sauce, and they never disappoint. The chopped brisket is always smoky and tender. The pulled pork is also delicious and never mushy. The smoked sausage is flavorful and the skin is a great texture. The ribs are also awesome, but FYI, they are not wet. The sides are also delicious. I'm a sucker for the French fries, which are always crispy and seasoned. I also thoroughly enjoy the baked beans. My husband loves the mac and cheese--and I normally am not a mac person, but I actually like it here! The servers are always nice and friendly.
