Fun little spot to go. Have lived in Hamilton for years and never have gone. We ended up going the other day. We decided to eat inside. It was a little cold but worth it. The server was super nice. We ended up splitting a Frank Stewart burger, corn, fritters and a root beer float. Float. One of the best burgers I've had in a while. The corn fritters had a good sauce to go along with them. I actually enjoyed this location a lot until it closed last year following a change in business ownership. I'm giving one star b/c it appears the new owners have abandoned this cute little shop. Apparently, remodeling work started and has since stalled...now grass and weeds are chest-high on the property and it looks like no one has set foot on site for months. So, I feel need to preface this by saying this is a conditional 4-star rating. Stewarts is a HUGE slice of nostalgia for me. I have fantastic memories of growing up in South Jersey going to Stewarts with my friends and family, and any time I stop by this location all of those warm, fuzzy feelings come flooding back. In addition to this, my kids love this place, and why wouldn't they? The menu here is pretty much the stuff of elementary-aged boys' dreams. Our most recent visit was for a quick lunch after swim practice, and it was dogs all around: corndog kids meal for the youngest, a chili dog for the older one, and a jumbo chili dog for me with a side of corn fritters for the tables. Oddly, the buns for the two hot dogs were toasted thick-cut bread, but it actually worked nicely. The dogs were tasty, and the chili topping was certainly not fancy or home made, but it did the job. We also all got ice cream floats in frosted mugs, which is always an excellent choice here. The service was friendly and fast. The fare here is certainly not high-quality, fancy versions of anything, it is what it is, and the price is reflective of that. Stewarts scratches a very specific itch. If you stick with simple selections realizing that you're going to get Sysco-style frozen food dropped in the fryer or simple dogs and burgers cooked up on a flat top by a kid learning how to be a line cook, you'll do just fine. I can almost guarantee your kids will enjoy it here, even if your cholesterol level does not. read more

Returned today for a quick hot dog lunch. Tried the Italian version, a jumbo Frank topped with potato, pepper and onion, and squirted with mustard and ketchup. Looked great in the plastic basket. But, aside from the oversized meat sausage which was okay, the rest left much to be desired. The taters were hard. The peppers were semi-sweet sweet, and the onions were limited. Oh nostalgia, today you have led me astray. I had a hankering for a root beer float, and what pairs better with that than a chili dog? So I stopped in at this local Stewart's, which has been here for over 50 years. To be fair to my parent's good taste, they always took me to other locations. The hot dog itself had a good flavor, but was very small, maybe the next step up from a cocktail weenie. On first look I thought they got my order wrong, I didn't see any chili. It was there but must have been applied with a butter knife, not even a teaspoons worth. The float was very good, but very expensive too. 2 dogs and a tiny float set me back $12. Service was very quick and very friendly, but I advise any others who had fond memories of this slice of Americana to look elsewhere. read more

We're waiting on our order from DoorDash, and the order got cancelled, thinking it was our driver. No, driver was there, but the restaurant cancelled it. Called up, as to why, and "they were busy, so they paused it," even though our order was sitting and waiting for 90 minutes. I just wanted my classic chili dog and an orange creamsicle soda so I could hit the road. Young High School guy taking order was very nice and pleasant, as I was waiting for food we had a decent conversation. They have a brand new menu which I found out when I got there. Decided on the buffalo wings and a cheesesteak with onions and peppers. I was given the option of "naked" wings with sauce (buffalo/blue cheese) on the side which I prefer and glad I did. Your typical buffalo sauce and blue cheese. 6 wings were $6. The cheesesteak on the other hand was not as good but decent. Fresh chewy bread but they slightly overcooked the meat so it was a little dry but not terrible dry, good thing for cheese and toppings. My bi-annual healthy streak is coming to an end and I decided to do it style at Stewarts Drive in. Lets get one thing straight..Stewarts is not 5* gourmet food, its greasy salty and oh so delicous. I have been coming here since I was a kid and it really hasnt changed. 50's style drive in where the food tray is placed on your window and you drink your Root Beer in a frosted icey cold mug. I started the meal with a yummy Jersey burger. A greasy burger with some delectable pork Roll (you jersey folks know what Im talking about) on top. Oh yeah. Is that noise my arteries begging for mercy? Followed it up with 2 Dogs with Sauerkraut and mustard. The buns are buttered and grilled and have that crunchy texture and the combination of the all beef hot dog mixed with the spicy mustard and sauerkraut is like a quartet singing in perfect harmony. I'm a little disappointed, to be honest... I've lived around the corner from Stewart's for a little more than five years, and finally decided to try it out today. The waitress was friendly, but not very good at math. $11.98 for fried raviolis and an ultimate grilled cheese, gave her $22, got $8.02 in return. I didn't say anything, because I'm a generous tipper by nature... So instead of $5, she ended up with $7 as a tip. *shrug* As for the food... The fried raviolis were very chewy, and hard around the edges. Not gourmet, but I wasn't expecting as much. Moving on to the "ultimate" grilled cheese... Now, when I order food, I expect it to be better than what I can prepare at home (which isn't asking for much, as I'm not a great cook). It was NOT great, or even approaching good. This was mainly why I'm feeling let down. The bread looked toasted enough (literally, like it was put in a toaster), but the cheese was barely melted, and it was just... Sad. I had a concerning issue happen to me today at the Stewart's on Hamilton, NJ on Rt 33. I called in advance to see if I could use a $40 Groupon in 2 separate visits. The waitress on the phone said "yes, it's just like cash. You can use it any way." When I got the bill she changed her story. She claimed she misunderstood my question. The sweaty, disheveled, irate owner came out to berate me and accuse me of wanting free food. He acted this way in front of my 3 year old daughter and 3 other tables. He told me that he IS the owner and he will NOT allow the Groupon to be used in 2 visits. That's perfectly acceptable but I knew that my 3 year old and I wouldn't eat $40 worth of hot dogs and fries by ourselves. That's why I called to verify ahead of time. He then started to complain and whine in front of all of the guests that he's barely keeping afloat with his restaurant. He got louder and made a scene, grabbed the check and said, "just go. It's on me. Have a nice day. You just want free food." I was so embarrassed for him and his level of professionalism and childish behavior. I was also very disappointed and concerned that an owner of a business would act this way in front of my 3 year old daughter. I'm thinking his attitude and customer service has something to do with his sinking business. Or it could be the burnt hotdogs and frozen hamburger patties. Today was the 2nd time I have gone to Stewart's only to have nobody wait on us. The first time we were in our car. Turned the lights on, waited for 20 minutes, nobody came. Today we went inside thinking that might be better. Waited again, 20 minutes, nobody came. Nobody even acknowledged us. I understand they get busy and we did go around lunchtime, but not one word. Thank you for confirming that the service is nonexistent at your restaurant--both car service and inside. The food is good but what is the point when nobody waits on you?? Too bad this is only a seasonal restaurant open in the spring and summer. They have the old school drive up service where the waiters come out to your car and bring the food out to you. Went the other day and enjoyed coming here as I always have. Stewart's just brings back memories of when I was little. The soda is something that I crave for in a nice frosted mug. I had the chicken sandwich and my girl friend had the veggie burger sweet potato (yea we chose healthy food at Stewart's I know, crazy) and we were pleased. This place has the best rootbeer on earth. They have amazing food that you can enjoy. The prices aren't that high but they are just perfect! I come here with my family to get the "black cow" after dinner and it is delicious. This Stewart's is god awful, me and my gf Just went here yesterday for the first time, and prob the last...I ordered a bacon cheeseburger and a hot dog because those two are what Stewart's is known for, well at least imo... but this location in particular had the worst cheeseburger I've ever had at a Stewart's..it was so over cooked and taste like cardboard, and it was super burnt I couldn't even finish it... who ever the cook is needs a lesson on how to cook, he was pretty young and probably high as a kite he forgot he was cooking it.. and as for the hotdog, I didn't know they used regular sandwich bread as a bun, it was the better of the two but it still was just awful.. I guess it's just not the same as when I was growing up, or it's just this location and if so I would highly recommend not going here unless you like burnt Burgers and half ass hotdogs... go to the one on Rt. 1 In Lawrence soooo much better!
