And while there are no shortage of seafood restaurants serving fresh crab on the Steveston waterfront, we wanted to give The Crab King a fair shake. I'm so glad that we did! My wife ordered a King Crab for herself which, after tearing it literally limb-from-limb, eventually declared it to be tied for her favorite boiled crab dish anywhere! High praise coming from such a consummate crustacean connoisseur! For myself and our son, an order of fish and chips, and the grilled chicken sandwich rounded out our order, both of which were crispy, tasty and delicious. Regarding the fish and chips, they appeared to be tempura-battered, and I'm still not 100% sure what type of fish it was. It may have been cod, but it seemed more like catfish, but either way, it was tender, juicy, flaky and delicious. No complaints here! More than anything, though, the employees here went out of their way to make our experience enjoyable. Our toddler son, who is normally extremely well-behaved in restaurants, was having a bit of a fuss here and there. Without prompting, the servers brought us a little radio to play music for him, as well as a couple of toys to play with, one of them being a wind-up truck that they gave to him to take home! He loved it there, and still plays with it at home! They even played peek-a-boo with him from behind the counter, soliciting laughs and giggles, for the better part of 15 minutes! That sort of customer service is nearly impossible to find, and should be praised and cherished wherever it is found! Whatever the past may have held for this restaurant, the Crab King is an entirely new animal now, serving up fresh seafood by uncommonly wonderful employees, in a fantastic floating location. They even offer to cook spot prawns and other seafood purchased from the boats docked at the nearby waterfront marketplace, for a modest fee. With all these things going for it, there's no doubt who wears the crown of Crab King in Steveston Harbor!

We arrived in time for our reservation but there was no one at the front. We waited for a few minutes for someone to notice we were there, and were immediately seated. It's a nice looking place - very classic whites, and feels like a fine dining restaurant. We decided to try the following: - Beef Carpaccio: Good. Maybe a bit light on the meat, as it was buried by the arugula and pickled shallots, so seemed unbalanced, but overall tasted great - Seafood Linguini: Mixed. Linguini was good. Scallops were really good and tender. Mussels were tiny. Red snapper was tough and dry. As a dish, it was OK, but could be better. Seafood is seasonal, so I'd think they would be better off rotating what seafood is used. - LuLu Island: OK. Same issue as the linguine. Prawns were fine. Mussels tiny. Red snapper wasn't enjoyable. Broth had flavour, but didn't come out very hot. Service was pleasant but slow. I only saw one server and one busser, so not enough staff to handle 6 or 7 tables they had. Starter came n reasonable time, but main dishes seemed to take over 20min. Took awhile to get our plates cleared, and probably 15+ minutes to get the bill. Overall, it was OK. Food was OK, but not special. Service was nice enough, but couldn't keep up with timing. Glad I got to try it, but not special enough to go back.

We tried four different fish (sablefish, halibut, salmon, and char) and each was cooked really well with slight variations that made them stand out. Overall, a solid seafood dinner and good value.

We were seated at the table next to the water view. Attached is the menu & photo of the meal. For appetizer - We all chose Spicy Tuna Tartare- it was a good choice... it was very flavourful & tuna was fresh... spicy mayo went very well with the tuna tartare For mains - My hubby had seafood bouillabaisse- he said it was ok, the sauce was a little salty but I think it is meant to have it with the seafood The rest of us had the miso glazed sablefish... we didn't quite taste the miso however the fish was very tender & the risotto was nicely cooked For Dessert - Truffle cake with chocolate sauce & whipped cream - it was a huge dessert & it was very rich! And... Panna Cotta with mixed berry compote - nicely done & not too sweet.

Look no further than here for super fresh seafood and house made drinks…read more I read about fisherman Frank's story a couple of weeks ago and how the food truck came to be. I like supporting local businesses and food is an easy way to do that since we need to eat. It was closed the first time I went. Good thing the hours were posted on the food truck. So I came back again and got to try the special. Grilled snapper with Greek and orzo salad. The snapper was so fresh. It was sweet and tender. The Greek salad was also good, no limp-looking vegs. Crunchy and juicy cucumbers, peppers and tomatoes. The tomato was bursting with juice every time I stabbed it with the fork. I gave up and just popped it into my mouth. Yums. The street corn was also sweet and juicy with a bit of char. Love the toppings on it. There was a promo for street corn and drink ($8). I had the ginger citrus iced tea. The iced tea was lightly sweetened and I found it just right for my taste. The ginger and citrus flavor was very subtle, not overpowering. I like that they made it in house. None of those powder or box tea. I will definitely be back to try the other items on the menu. Friendly staff too. Prices are a bit on the high side for a food truck but the quality justified it. Nothing worse than paying more for mediocre food. There was a pleasant fun vibe with the music and there were a couple visibly happy patrons at some tables we were seated near. The server was very nice and patient as we took awhile looking at the menu figuring out what to order. We decided on an order of calamari appy. An order of warm seafood salad for wifey, 2pc halibut and chips for me and we shared an order of tom yum goon soup from the Thai section. Everything was tasty, fresh and perfectly cooked. The calamari had a nice crisp, well cooked and had a nice tzatziki dip. The fish was perfectly cooked and portion size was wonderful. I got a nice mouth full of fish each bite and the batter was not overly thick. The Thai soup was flavourful and had decent amount of mushroom and shrimp within. I did notice a slight sweetness more than usual when I've had this soup elsewhere but it was still very flavourful and delicious. Just making it a different rendition of a classic. The seafood in the seafood salad was Bountiful and the salad portion decent as well as fresh. Imo for a chef to pull off wonderful cook and flavor of different styles within the same establishment is a thumbs up to their craft. Wifey and I enjoyed the meal and I would eat there again.

The restaurant was clean, well set up, and nicely lighted. The service was great. Our server was friendly, and the food came out quickly. Now into the food: Honey Garlic Chicken Wings 2.5/5. They were ok but nothing special. I feel like I could have similar wings buying it frozen from the grocery store and at $2.50/wing. I cant justify that. Seafood Pasta 3/5. For something that was almost $30 I expected more. The amount and size of seafood was fine but I had expected more flavour like grilled prawns or seared scallops. Seems like it was all poached so there was no colour and everything was the same texture, colour, and flavour. It was cooked well and tender, but for the price, I would have liked some crust on my scallops and I could not taste the lobster in the sauce. Overall, it was seasoned well and still tasted good. Calabrese Salami Pizza 3.5/5 Crust was crispy and thin. Good amount of salami. Could have used more olives. The oven made the salami nicely crisp on the edges. However, there was no basil as noted on the menu. Just a little bit of basil oil drizzled on the center. Overall, if you want a comfortable place to sit and catch up with friends, this is a good place for it. The food while okay, could use some improvement.
