Overall not a great experience with this practice. I was a patient from approximately 2015 to December of 2022 On the plus side appointments generally ran close to on time; refills were mostly handled in a timely manner. Turn over became very high; always a red flag. At one point when discussing ED medications with a PA I was told I wouldn't get a prescription just to self pleasure. I believe this practice has been closed because I've been calling for two days and there's nobody answering any of the phones.

They don't answer their phones. Must think phonemail will take care of everything but then they don't check those messages until the end of the day. After trying to request a refill on their mobile app for 2 days I went in to the office because they wouldn't answer and I wouldn't get another chance to pickup the refill for several days if I didn't get it that day. I spoke to 2 people behind the desk as well as the nurse Ty explaining to each one in detail only to find out later none of them listened because it still wasn't filled that day. I even got a message thru the app from an unknown sender that I was the only one that has a problem getting refills thru the app. WTF I've successfully requested refills on the app before. Why would they say that. I'm not going back. read more

I went to Dr. Pounders' years ago and left because his "partner" at the time was giving out personal patient information to his friends at the bars. Dr. P at that time was also not so caring so I found another provider that I loved. I only called because he's the only Dr. left that I recognized as being a "gay physician" (or gay friendly) and I thought I would give him another try. My current primary care physician, Dr. Patrick Daly retired about a year or so ago and Methodist took over the practice putting Blake Hatfield in his place. Dr. Hatfield seems OK but he does zero follow-ups and his staff is horrible! They can't do anything correctly. The office manager SUCKS and doesn't return phone calls and while the new location is nice, they do nothing and don't care about their patients. (Read their reviews) So, I called in to Dr. Pounder's "office" today to see if I could become a new patient. Well, this is definitely NOT a medical practice, it's a sham! As another reviewer noted, Dr. P has retired and if you want to see him, you have to pay $1800 in addition to your insurance every year and from what I can tell, he still does nothing for his patients. All that means is, you will get to see him and not an NP... LMAO!! You have to be kidding me. The receptionist was shocked to hear that I actually wanted to have a physician, not a NP care for me. She was unprofessional, unknowledgeable and while she tried to be cheerful, she just seemed uneducated and dumb! As this was my first interaction with this "practice", I assume she's a reflection of things/ people to come. I have excellent insurance and want a primary care physician that cares about my health and well-being, not an uneducated NP with no ability to diagnose or write real Rx's! As I said, this place a sham and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Please read this review if you are on Truvada/Descovy. I went to Dr. Pounders office as a new patient in February and was due for routine lab work to refill my Truvada medication. Dr. Pounders office is incorrectly billing these lab screenings as "Exposure to Bodily Fluids" instead of "Preventative Screenings." All PrEP based lab work should be billed as a Preventative screening so no cost is passed to the patient. After multiple follow ups, Dr. Pounders Office has refused to rectify these errors and I have been charged $450 and $250 for each lab work. I have tried to contact the office manager multiple times to no avail. If you continue to use this doctors office, please check your lab bills. I will never use this doctor again and I avoid all other LGBT people in the Dallas area to looks elsewhere for care. read more

Everyone at this office is exceptional. I have been seeing my PCP, Chad Crager, for years now and i cannot recommend him enough. He is compassionate, brilliant, understanding and genuinely cares about his patients. The office staff is easy to work with; getting back to calls and portal messages promptly (sometimes within minutes). Multiple times, I've had problems with pharmacies unable to fill scripts, and my PCP is out of the office at that time; they will get another provider to send the script wherever I need it. Dr Pounders is a community hero. Period. He was here at the start of the "gay plague" and he is still serving Oaklawn Dallas Texas today. Too many trusted community providers have since retired or had their practices consumed, squeezed out by "nonprofit" Hospital Inc networks. BIG Provider networks are businesses not medical practices, in my opinion. The incentive is to reward for services billed (or "encounters") over quality and OUTCOME for the patient. Bedside manner used to be a reference to how a doctor interacted with the patient. S/he was the SAME familiar face each time you needed non-Emergency care. Now a PCP visit (at Hospital Inc clinic) isn't a familiar face. It could be any one of the docs available. And the question is: Did that unfamiliar DOC/NP/PA actually read your 20-years of medical file: paper AND e-MR clinical notes. My experience is they did not have time to. I'm not throwing any shade towards the dancers! I admire your ability to strip-off and parading in front of strangers carelessly. However, I am more modest. Please don't ask to touch my junk before dinner & cocktails OR at least reading the facesheet Capitalism requires efficiency with an intolerable margin of error allowed ** and that margin is covered by (insanely expensive) malpractice insurance. + Add-in 5 administrative or non-clinical staff for each Provider, the share/shareholders, countless non-value added other moronic services, executive comp, fancy buildings and guess what What was fantastic and familiar is now more frugal and financial. My first visit was great and I had no problems with Chad and my initial check up. I had just moved into this area and thought I found a new primary care physician, but my experience turned sour when they scheduled me to come in for basic lab tests (blood and urine sample) I showed up late December 2017 for the regular lab work and thought nothing more of it, until they called me a week later saying the lab had made an error and I needed to come back in for a second lab visit. At first I thought, no big deal, I'll just go in and re-do the process, it was quick no more than 10 mins. But the nightmare happened when I received a bill for BOTH lab works! I have medical insurance and I certainly don't mind paying for the initial bill for the lab work that was originally scheduled, however, I don't think it's fair for me to be responsible for the lab work done in error. It makes sense when I read all the previous reviews, I don't care who the new receptionist is or who runs the front desk, but it is still IMPOSSIBLE to get in contact with anyone. I've left multiple messages trying to get in contact with someone who can help me with my questions, but I usually hear nothing. It takes them days to call back and the most frustrating part: paying a bill is time sensitive, I cannot afford for this bill to become overdue to pay more fees! In the span of 3 weeks, calling 2-3 times a week, I've spoken to a live person ONCE, and there is still no resolution. As a medical office, I wish their front office matched the care that the nurses and doctors provided. I've been a patient of Dr Pounders since 2014, my Ex Husband since 2014, and now my new husband since 2015- we all have been very happy with Dr Pounders till recently-- THIS HAS CHANGED DRAMATICALLY since Dr Pounders switched over to a "Concierge" style practice and began shuffling "NON- PERK PAYING" people/Patients to his newly hired nurse practitioner (NP) staff. "Shelly" a NP was top notch and did a great job- we loved her as a NP-- but she has recently left the practice. They hired a young guy "Cameron" (NP) in July 2017. NP Cameron, is horrible- just outta school, very little experience-- bad people skills-- seriously--how much REAL medical experience can you have in your 20s?? Right outta college! On my/our last visit, to Pounders with my husband, in September 2017, NP- Cameron, totally botched and misdiagnosed my husband as "allergies" when it was IN FACT he had the flu-- my husband vomited all the way home! Cameron, issued a script for allergies - which we didn't need and STILL paid for. Cameron had awful " interpersonal communication skills" during our routine office visit. Cameron FAILED to tell or even explain to us an injection we were supposed to have prior to leaving the office that afternoon -- I declined the injection without a clear explanation as to what exactly it was for and why we needed it. NP Cameron is seriously abrasive, condescending, and cocky- for a young guy, just outta school, from east Texas, with extremely limited medical experience. Our visit with Cameron, was so bad, I went in personally and spoke to the office manager about this and asked that Cameron not be involved with any of our future medical care. I checked into the "concierge service"-- it's expensive! Outta pocket cost is like 1,400.00- paid quality at 400.00 per payment- EVERY YEAR! That's nearly 2,800.00 per year added costs, outta pocket, for my husband and I alone! Further, with this new style of practice you get a bunch of USELESS junk you don't need like "schmoozing" with Dr Pounders on occasion-- doing walks on the local trail, visiting his condominium, ect-- I can do with out all that! This seems like a money Making scam and nothing more! Sure some of the tests are great-- but overall it's really lousy to mediocre medical care. I need quality HEALTH CARE, not a highly paid guy pal to hang out with and who I can't get into see when I'm sick! I wanna see a DOCTOR when I get sick-- not be brushed off to his flunky. Today, I called to get Meds's for strept throat- I live 65 miles away from Dallas. I've gotten strept meds via the phone before in the past- no can do now- that has ALL changed. Now, I have to drive in to Dallas and get a "throat exam"- sadly, THEY HAVE NO APPOINTMENTS! I have EXCELLENT insurance (blue cross/shield-ppo), but still can't get in-- can't get a Z pack over the phone anymore-- and now my healthcare has been delighted to one of his "Lackies"-- we are NOT going to do this! There are BETTER rated doctors and practices in DFW area. HIV treatment, is relatively common place now. I called one of the other practitioners/providers in the area and they got me right in today- as a new patient. My husband and I, as well as my Ex are all 3 leaving Dr Pounders practice for a better rated, medical practice in the DFW area that puts the patient FIRST over the doctors paycheck! This WAS a good place to go-- once--but it has seriously declined in the last 12 months. I once thought Dr Pounders was great, although the front office was a shade wonky. Then he went concierge, which I can't afford. Not a problem, they said. There's another doctor who could take over. Okay... okay... but then the other doctor changed one of my meds. This was without consultation. He'd never even seen me. He was disrespecting the opinion of the boss (Dr Pounders). He didn't tell me! I ordered a refill. Nobody called. The druggst said Pounder's office just failed to respond. This is the single most irresponsible thing I have ever seen. So, no. Re: Dr Chad Nyland. My instinct should have been my guide much like, "Use pain as your guide". Dr Nyland simply does not have temperament for extended care. He's just impatient. I realized this from first visit, but wanted to give benefit to doubt. He's extremely brilliant with Rx's; but lacks all practical perspectives with careers that are physically & mentally aggressive to the human kind. While he insisted I return to work...weeks later I had a heart attack. I've been under great care with a PCP who genuinely and sincerely uses his medical license to patiently listen to my health concerns. I do hope should Dr Nyland need medical care he is treated with more patience and respect than I received. Ironically the referral patient who sent me to Dr Pounders office left his practice after he snapped his fingers as he was in a hurry. I present this with honest respectful perspective. I love working with Steve Pounders regarding my brain injury and diabetic issues which at times can be really funky. Their office is a bit dis-organized and I wish I could offer to help with my past computer skills but oh well. I guess it just takes time to iron out technology issues sometimes. The best part is that there's no written scripts to schlep to the store.. it's all done and taken care of before you walk out the door. The best part is you don't feel like you're part of a 'meat market' assembly line like I did when I was going to Dr. David Lee's Uptown Physicians Group with little to no 'human element' at all. First of all I have never seen a more rude staff. I saw Dr.'s, nurses and other office staff belittle, shame, and treat receptionists like trash. William, Nina, and Richard all have no problem behaving shamefully in front of patients. They're inefficient, the office is not clean and it smells. No one was willing to help me become a new patient. Instead, there was an attempt to trap me into paying thousands a year just to get treatment from Pounders. Tried another provider-Cameron. Such a rude, stuck up, unapproachable, undesirable bedside manner that I was sickened by his demeanor. Plus there's a gray mutt that's let loose to run free throughout the back examination rooms. Pounders is a dr( I use that term loosely) who is not in the business of helping HIV patients, but a person who is in the business of extorting people who are looking for a Dr who can be trusted. I was a recent patient of this clinic and I have to say that I am not happy with the treatment I received at this clinic. I am suffering in pain and after two appointments, I have had no relief. I believe in my heart that both NP's you will see are very closed minded in helping you outside of what they want to do. I do no recommend this clinic unless you have the sniffles. I will never forget how this clinic would leave a person to suffer. I hope and pray the NP's get the same treatment they gave to me. Updated Review 5/16/19: Dear Rick, I understand that the government is stepping in to combat Opioid abuse, but with that being said. I went in twice and seen both Wyatt first then Craig. Wyatt ordered me something Valtren gel and IBU, which I had asked for, but I still was not having any relief. I suffered for two weeks, praying that the Valtren gel and IBU would help but it didn't. So then I returned and seen Craig. He recommended a decrease in IBU and wanted to order Tramadol for 7 days at night. I thought this was rather insulting. I've been suffering all this time and now your telling me that my pain will only last for seven days. Both NP's requsted an MRI, which I can not afford. I asked for an Xray, but both refused stated that an MRI is the best option. Neither one attempted to understand that I could not afford an MRI and would not budge to try and Xray to see if there was anything that could of been picked up by the xray. Then when I declined the Tramadol and asked about a Lidocaine patch, Craig wrote it for 10 days, so now my pain will last for only 10 days. Being on a fixed income, I can't afford to pay for seven or ten days of medicine, especially if my problem has been getting worse with each month. I would of been happy if Craig would of consulted one of the doctors for something for pain long than a week and referred me to a MD that deals with shoulder issues. But to do nothing, order medicine for less than a week and not refer my care to someone that could assess me. I felt was not only neglectful, but cruel. That is why I am not longer a patient at your clinic. Also, to compare my pain to another person's pain is just asinine when we all experience pain differently. As stated in another posting about this clinic, if I could afford the 1200.00 plus yearly fee to be a VIP patient, I probably could of gotten whatever I wanted. HORRIBLE SERVICE. Let's start by talking about when I called in to schedule my appointment, whoever picked up the phone was one sassy gentlemen. Then he told me they probably dont have anything for another week or two, which I thought to myself do I really want to go to a primary doctor thats THAT busy? Where if I call to make an appointment they wont let me for a week or two? Then he said someone canceled last minute for tomorrow, a Friday at 10:40 AM. I said schedule me and I'll be there. Scheduled my appointment for 10:40 AM. So I'm running late, traffic was horrible, I'm driving from Fort Worth where I work, I call the office to let them know I'm running late cause if I wouldnt be able to be seen today, I wouldn't of took off work and drove an hour. (They were assigned to me by my insurance provider) I literally called over 10 times, to multiple different extensions just trying to get in touch with somebody, ANYBODY to let them know I was going to be late and no answer. Now just so everyone understands what went down when I got there, I'm the type of person that goes to the doctor only when he REALLY needs to while trying to avoid an emergency center visit. Had multiple things wrong with me, including my asthma, epileptic episodes, ect. all happening at once. I get there at 11:00 AM, the front desk person said I was late and they might have to reschedule me for next week and I was not happy because I tried calling to let them know I was going to be late in the first place! Had I known this on the phone call, IF THEY PICKED UP THEIR PHONES, I would of never drove there, I would of never taken off work! Yet they twisted it back on me saying well you shouldnt of been late. Yeah buddy, like I can control bumper to bumper traffic. I also feel like I was reverse discriminated against, I have no problem with gays, I have tons of gay friends but I am obviously not gay and a majority of the staff were gay and the patients in the waiting room as well, which is normal for the neighborhood the office is located in, also known as the "gayborhood", anyway the front desk person said he's not gonna argue with me, told me to take a seat and said he'll let me speak to the office manager. For the next 2 hours waiting, I heard him chatting up him and his new husbands house in garland to different clients that walked in, going around the reception to give them all hugs, I mean it seemed like a cool atmosphere if you were gay, maybe if I acted gay he would of treated me better? But for me, I feel like it was just roll his eyes and NEXT. Once I finally spoke to the office manager, I had a seizure in his office and he still wouldnt let me see a doctor, he referred me over to 2 places and both their numbers dont work. I called this office to see if they would take my insurance. The staff could not say, and told me that only the office manager could tell me. I left multiple messages for the office manager, and he eventually called me back long after hours, and told me he would call me first thing tomorrow. He did not. I called him back and only got excuses -- in a meeting, with a patient, too busy, blah, blah, blah. I just moved to Dallas and was looking for a new doctor. Today I visited Dr Nyland and I was really impressed with how professional everyone was in their office. I didn't have to wait long in the waiting room and when I saw Dr Nyland I never felt like he was trying to rush me. It's nice to have a doctor that cares, I highly recommend their office! read more

I've moved around the country quite a bit, and spent 2 years living in Dallas. I've had my share of health problems, and Dr. Pounders has been a good listener, has great bedside manner, never rushes you, and recommended appropriate tests and treatments for all my various ailments (and not always medication!). In addition, his office staff is responsive. When prescriptions run out, they send refills to my pharmacy on the same day. I'd say he ranks in the top 3 of doctors I've seen in my life. I'd knock him down 1/2 stars (4.5/5) because he's such in great demand (Dallas Magazine awarded him "Best Doctor" at one point) that you can't easily get an appointment, and call backs take 24 hours or more. read more
