I really should have read the reviews before booking an eye exam at this place. I went to another eye glass place before this and it was a nightmare so I decided to try this place due to my insurance. Yes they have plenty of glasses to choose from. I was not willing to pay a lot for frames etc. The lady had a calculator and started typing up numbers so I asked if she could show this to me on the computer, well she printed it out. When I asked if I could have that so I could think about the glasses she said it belonged to them. Very shady business. I took my prescription and said I will think about it which she then rolled her eyes. These are not nice people at all and will make up whatever price comes to mind. Yes I had 100 dollars off frames, but off of $199 frames plus everything else amounted to $500-600. Nope will not be coming back again. Waste of time. read more

This is my first time visiting Sterling optical since my insurance is changed this year. I am not happy with the staff, service and place in general. the staff is the worst from all. The lady who takea orders is super unhelpful about booking appointments and other general questions. So loud that others can even hear my prescription details. The dr's office is so messy that it's hard to breath..I am not going there ever again. Huge mistake!!!..Hope this review help someone in need of better eye dr. Negative Review - Sterling Optical I had an appointment at Sterling Optical yesterday and, while I was greeted kindly at first, the experience quickly went downhill. Immediately upon arrival, I noticed staff eating food directly on top of the counters where glasses and cases are stored--the same items patients are expected to purchase and wear. There was no visible handwashing or sanitizing, which was extremely concerning from a hygiene standpoint. During my exam, the doctor never introduced himself. He began reviewing my medical history and asked about my occupation, which was clearly listed on my intake form as an X-ray tech. When I corrected him after he referred to me as a "technician," he brushed it off with "potato, potato." As someone who works in healthcare, I found this dismissive and unprofessional. Titles matter, just as there is a difference between a medical assistant and a physician. The exam room was left open to the mall, and my personal medical paperwork was placed on an exposed counter ( right next to their food) The patient seen before me was standing directly over my paperwork, and later walked into the room during my eye exam because the door was left open. This was an extremely uncomfortable and unacceptable breach of privacy and confidentiality. The situation worsened when the doctor asked if I was wearing contact lenses (I was). He poured saline out of a used contact lens case, refilled it, and then asked me to place my contacts inside it. I refused, as this is completely unsanitary. Only then did he offer me a new case. It was also clear that the room had not been cleaned or wiped down between patients. Despite the obvious lack of sanitation, I was asked to hold a spatula up to my face, which I declined due to the overall dirty condition of the office. I also received attitude from the doctor when I expressed concerns. I only learned the doctor's name after refusing to purchase their ridiculously overpriced contact lenses and requesting my prescription, which should never be the first time a patient learns who is treating them. To make matters worse, the pricing at this facility is completely out of line with the level of care and professionalism provided. As someone who works in the healthcare field, this was one of the most unsanitary, uncomfortable, and unprofessional medical experiences I have ever had. Eye checkup Good shop. Located conveniently within Menlo Park Mall. We buy power glasses for our kids from here . Their prices are good compared to other shops . Service is also good .. the only issue is they have very less options for 12-13 yr old kids .. we found only 2-3 frames which fit him. Either it is too big or too small.. we got 2 glasses and they also finished and delivered glasses in a day .. good experience overall .. 4 stars read more

I am very upset and disappointed by my recent visit to Sterling Optical. I rarely leave negative reviews, but I felt I had to. I went in today for my scheduled eye exam and contact fitting, and the doctor that saw me was very nice, however I was surprised that there was no actual "eye exam" that occurred, only really focusing on contacts. When I asked him about an actual eye exam, including dilating my pupils to see the back of my eye, which I usually have done EVERY year because I have tears in my retina, he told me he could do that but didn't think I needed it, and walked away. Again, I have tears in my retinas that need to be monitored yearly, and have had my pupils dilated yearly for the 20 years I've been wearing contacts, but okay. I then proceeded to ask the older woman with the greasy bangs at the front desk about scheduling an eye exam for that reason, and she proceeded to argue with me, saying the office "doesn't do that" and that "only diabetics" need their pupils dilated??? But the doctor just said he could perform that type of exam? Extremely rude and clearly uneducated, obviously only there to sell glasses. She told me I could "wait and talk to the doctor" (but I just talked to him?). On top of all of this, I paid $140 for that contact fitting WITH insurance. I have never paid that much in the 20 years I've been wearing contacts. read more

Stopped in on a busy Saturday evening about 5:45PM. I was hoping to schedule an optical exam later in the week but as luck would have it the eye doctor had not left and she kindly accepted me last minute. My teenage kids were next door at Game Stop and no telling what mischief or purchases they were up to, so I needed to be quick. So while I was getting the exam done, Sandy (so awesome) helped pick out several frames for me. After consultation with the boss (my wife who arrived later) they narrowed down the frames to a handful. I ended up picking up a pair that were comfortable and stylish. My insurance covered some of the cost, and I did pay a bit. But for the quality it was well worth it. I can't say enough about how kind Sandy and everyone at this store is. I know it's a long review. But I spent almost $700 on glasses at this establishment AFTER "health insurance" I purchased a pair of Jimmy Choo frames with Crizal lenses and added the extra insurance to both back in February. First problem: prescription was wrong, had to wait and make another appointment to see another doctor and order new lenses. Second problem: lenses fell out of my glasses, had to go back and have them put back in Third problem: went in to replace my lenses because they got scratched (not even a year later, and I only dropped them once) Fourth: wrong lenses were placed in. Fifth problem: had to wait a week and a half for my lenses. Sixth problem: the frames are damaged, lenses don't fit correctly in the frames anymore, and have plastic parts coming out of It (sorry forgot to take pics) Seventh problem: called the manager he will not honor the insurance although I have insurance on the lenses AND the frames says he doesn't believe me. That he has to see them. Eighth problem: the lense FALL OUT OF THE FRAME! Ninth problem: I go in the manager says he will change my frames takes the try on pair from the case (I'm thinking it's to check the part number) but no, when I come back to pick It up the manager has given a USED DEMO pair as my replacement for the tech to put in or maybe he put It in himself I'm really not sure. read more

First let me start by saying I called an was told they take my insurance went in she asked for my card I gave it to her she literally threw it down at me an said we don't take your insurance an she walked away. Short version: apauled by the service of the doctor, he was checking memes on his Facebook while I was asking questions about eye issues. Long version: I was explaining to the doctor that my eyes have been constantly itchy and I tried multiple lotions,cleaners and drops but nothing was working. He rolled his eyes. After examining them I asked what is the problem, he looked frustrated at the question grabbed his phone and started to look on Google for lotions, after he asked me if I tried certain ones which I did, i asked again whats wrong with my eyes because i dont know where to start. He says nothing and goes back to his phone, goes to Amazon then the internet goes out and he spends 5 minutes trying to get wifi to go on and off. Mumbles "good time for the internet to go out" Then I ask a third time what could be wrong with my eyes, he said try dry eye relief drops, I said I did that already. He then goes ONTO FACEBOOK AND STARTS CHECKING MEMES. At this point I was apauled by his service and just wanted to leave. read more

She knows our tastes and what frames work best. We moved further south last year yet we still drive to see Sandy. We drive pass multiple competitors because of the service that Sandy provides. It's quite simply the best. Felix is a great optician. The team of Sandy and Felix are unbeatable. The large selection of frames can be overwhelming but Sandy knows eXactly what she has in inventory. Horrible eye checkup service. Was made to sit and wait for 1.5hrs for pre booked appointment for eye check up. The equipment to check eye is super old. Doctor had barely few choices of contacts to try out, took 99$ Payment to book contacts fitting for another day once the contact arrived. Has been 8 days now no call backs. I am on my current old monthly contact last pair and now thinking of going to another doctor for contacts. Will probably now end up with double money spent. :( Came to this place bcos local Costco eye doctor stopped taking my insurance. Was hoping to find a good alternative but this has turned out to be a complete nightmare. Absolutely avoid this place for any kind of eye checkup. Can't say about the glasses etc sales since the bad experience made me go elsewhere with my glasses prescription. Update(02/19/18) - still no callback after 10 days, decided to go in person and check. Absolutely no progress and people at the store clueless. Asked the sales lady to cancel it at this time. She says with straight face "once money doctor account we cannot cancel irrespective of whether fitting done still or not". A big thank you to the the employees here!!! My father & mother in-law went for exams and glasses last week. They are 90 and 92. Due to the insurance they have, they were limited to this location. They didn't know it was in Menlo Park Mall and had a really hard time getting to the middle of the mall, even though my sister in-law was with them. After the exam, they asked for their glasses to be mailed because they could not imagine trying to get back to the store again. Instead of mailing them they did something even better. The told them to come back in an hour and the glasses would be ready. So my in-laws had a nice lunch with my sister in-law and then were able to take the glasses home the same day. We really appreciate how nice and attentive they were to the situation. My father & mother in-law really liked everyone in the office. Thanks again!!! read more

Worst experience ever! Very rude doctor and staff. Had an appointment for eye exam with an insurance but still they did not honor the appointment stating that they can only conduct the exam if I agree to buy the glasses with them. On top of this told me that they had called to inform about cancellation in the morning for an afternoon appointment (which they did not; also funny part is that they have a policy for customers to give at least 24 hours notice for cancellation) and told me that they don't have any appointment available for next few days, however I could book the appointment for very next day on their website. The glasses and frames were extremely overpriced (300$+ for even puma brand frames, forget about legit eye glass companies; the free ones covered under my insurance (150$) were all unbranded (10$ looking) frames. They were not even ready to tell me the options available for the lenses and were extremely rude in their conduct. Worst experience and scammers at this place. Staff here should have some shame for not respecting their profession and just quit if they don't like their jobs. read more

I love Sterling Optical and it's employees. Previous to now I saw Valerie and she was awesome; however, sadly she retired. Sandy helped me this time and she was SOOOOOOOOOOO amazing. I went in to get my eyes examined and when I came out she had a variety of glasses that would fit my face and prescription (my presicription is pretty high -- as is the rest of me :).) I came out and tried on the frames she suggested. Many of them were excellent, but one was AWESOME. They were all within my price range. She then explained two different options for the lenses -- the expensive and inexpensive. Sadly, I had to pass up the expensive lenses but still got a great pair of glasses. shopping for glasses this year started out as a nightmare for me- but Adona at sterling optical came to the rescue! i'd ordered a tory burch frame at lens crafters, after being assured that it would come in black. the frames showed up... in red. turns out they don't even exist in black. the customer service there was pretty awful and unfriendly, and my timeline to get glasses before the end of the year was almost up. needless to say, i was beyond frustrated. seriously beyond. ...and then i drove to menlo, walked into sterling, and within two hours had picked a frame, had the glasses made, and left the place a happy camper. i'm insanely picky, difficult, indecisive, stubborn, etc. (what... i'm a woman, that's to be expected!) Adona at sterling was patient and knowledgeable and super helpful, and did i mention patient? she pulled a ton of frames for me to try... multiple times. i'm the worst. her suggestions were wonderful, she really knew her inventory and listened to my preferences and found EXACTLY what i wanted. the perfect kate spade frames. they carry a large selection of frames, in brands including tory burch, tiffany, tom ford, kate spade, guess, ralph lauren, versace, ray ban, etc. i expected to have to wait a week for the glasses to come in (like i had to at lens crafters)... but to my surprise, she said they'd be ready in an hour. this four-eyes is beyond happy. seriously beyond. happy with the glasses i got. happy with the selection of frames at sterling optical. happy with the friendly, quality customer service provided by Adona. happy that they take eye med insurance. happy that they were ready and perfect in an hour. happy that i can take them for adjustments whenever. ...as happy as any other girl who gets exactly what she wants. :) read more

Never again place is pricey the so called manager is rude I took my glasses back two weeks after I had them tint had worn off of them he claims that's impossible until I showed him the picture Of what they look like just 2 weeks earlier and you could clearly see the tint lightened and he did nothing leave them takes days? but you forgot to tint them them the day I was picking them up but you manage to get them tinted when I got there that day...he's RUDE no ppl skills and and got real defensive wants a poop to him with the lenses look like earlier and he just walked away ignored me and continue to do what he was doing.., I went back a month later the same thing I would not recommend this place to no one not even a THING and it is not the most professional place read more

Having not had a great experience here back in 2014, I didn't think I'd ever be back (prescription came out uncomfortably strong and I was grossly overcharged). I originally planned on getting my eye exam at Target Optical in Linden (and getting my glasses at Warby Parker ;)), but not only were they booked for days, their eye doctor leaves at 4:30pm weekdays and 4pm Saturdays. I called Sterling to ask for their eye exam price without insurance, and the guy initially said $79.99. When I replied, "Okay, thank you," he quickly mentioned that on Wednesdays and Fridays there's a special $49.99. This is not something they advertise and needs to be mentioned or they will charge you the regular price - as I found out in person. Calling on a Wednesday, I was able to schedule an appointment for that Friday at 6pm (their doctor is there until 6:30pm). The front-end staff I dealt with were meh, but my optometrist - Lydia Songprasit - was awesome. Very thorough and well-mannered. If they're still doing promos like this in the future, I'd come back for her, ease of scheduling appointments, and location convenience (inside Menlo Park Mall). read more

When I picked up my contact prescription. The lady at the counter said she remembered me getting glasses. I casually mentioned my eyes never did adjusted to them. She mentioned your company has to correct it and would take care of it. I asked if I would have to pay she said no and asked that I bring my glasses. I signed up for the appointment. When I came in, they couldn't find my file, my LAST name changed due to a divorce. Which I had mentioned in previous visit and asked that my file be updated. After an hour of waiting, I was told the complete opposite, and I was also told the description of the lady that had helped me a few days before didn't match any of the employees. read more

I'm an idiot--so I blame myself. I've been going here for years and keep saying it will be the last time but today was the last straw. They upsell and are so ridiculously overpriced. Same frames can be purchased online at a fraction of the cost and now they will charge an additional $50 to put in lenses if the frame was purchased elsewhere. Today I came in for a recheck because my new lenses were so unbelievably strong, I asked them to check my vision as though I was a new customer--without referring to the last prescription. I would think the "doctor" (Dr. Forszt) could tell you what your vision is by an exam...without having to check your previous prescription just so they can sell you a stronger pair of glasses. The doctor refused and called ME rude for not wanting to give him my glasses. Frankly, I think they generally get cut-rate "doctors" as well. Save your hard-earned $$$ aggravation. Go somewhere else.
