I just purchased a gently used Technics SL-1200G Turntable and I called the store to see if they could set it up and get the cartridge dialed in. Rey spoke to me and told me to bring it in and that he would do it himself. I took the TT into the store and left it there for a day and Rey took care of me. The price for the was extremely reasonable and best of all - he did a fantastic job! The table sounds great. I have loved going to this store for many years - they have a great collection of albums for sale, and they are excellent and patient with providing suggestions and recommendations on great-sounding albums. Over the years, I've learned a ton from the employees at the store. It's a great place to go and hang out. Lastly, they have several fantastic listening rooms and you can listen to systems at all budget levels, I never feel any pressure to buy. I recently stopped by for the first time to pick up a 4m RCA cable to connect my phono-stage to preamp as a temporary solution. I explained that I was just looking for a quality interconnect to make the temporary link and would be open to used gear. With nothing new in that length, The older gentleman went to the back and came out with a pair of cables in the correct length and sold them to be for $100. I didn't think much of it as they appeared to fit the bill. Upon getting home I discovered that they were subwoofer cables with the ground removed retailing at $25 each. In an industry of already expensive products, I expect a dealer to be open and honest, not just trying to make a quick buck. Anyone who would sell someone subwoofer cables to connect $50,000 worth of stereo gear is either uneducated or dishonest. Will not shop here again. read more

Their record selection is outstanding: Recently, I was able to score some old Joe Pass Pablo recording that happened to be in their collection, all at a great price. The funnest recent find at Stereo Unlimited was an original Star Wars soundtrack. Both records were warped from probably having been stored in an awkward position. It was an opportunity to use their record flattening machine! Both records went in concave (lol) and came out flat and sound fantastic! read more

I live in Escondido, but when I'm in San Diego, I make it a point to drop by and check out great stereo. I have bought a few records but not any components. I'm in the market for a new amp and plan to buy it here. The reason is that the staff treats you very well. They never speak down to you, especially when you have no idea what you're talking about. They take time to explain and answer questions. The two gentlemen at the counter, Danny and I forgot the other guy's name - sorry - are the best. The store has the warmth of an old-time barber shop. This is the place if you are looking for a new stereo or record. I don't know the owner, but he must be of high quality because his staff is amazing. This place has a good selection and cool gear and for the most part friendly staff. However, both times I've been here, the younger, taller employee has been EXTREMELY rude and condescending to me for absolutely no reason. he spoke to me as if I were an ignorant child, seemingly trying to embarrass me. I'm not sure if that's how he is towards every customer, or for whatever reason he only discriminates against me, but regardless he has shown me a blatant lack of respect as a paying customer. Unfortunately, I won't be coming back as long as he is working here, because he genuinely makes me feel uncomfortable at this point. We were welcomed by Bruce and treated to listening to our album on a super high-end stereo. When first heard, many people might have discounted our album as noise, but Bruce was so cool and open-minded that we were blown away. His demo systems are absolutely incredible. What ensued while listening to our record was an eye-opening exchange of ideas, and sharing of vinyl favorites and recommendations. Have visited this shop four times now, and each time the customer service has been absolutely stellar. On my very first visit I came to explore their (ample) selection of vinyl records for sale and brought along some records to hopefully sell or get store credit for. The proprietor of the store (sorry, I don't know any employees' names) made a generous offer to buy my very ordinary, run-of-the-mill records for much more than I expected to get. Upon exploring I realized this store, in addition to selling a very sizable selection of vinyl records (many of which are audiophile quality), also sells the highest of high-end audio equipment: turntables, speakers, amps, DACs, headphones, you name it! I knew when it was time for me to get serious about my vinyl record passion, this was the place to come. So when the time came for me to upgrade my turntable, I headed straight to Stereo Unlimited. I'd done some research ahead of time and knew I wanted a MoFi Electronics turntable. Stereo Unlimited is San Diego's authorized MoFi Electronics distributor, so naturally they carried the model I wanted. Upon setting up the turntable at home I discovered that MoFi had shipped this turntable with no dust cover (and wobbly platter). I brought the turntable back to Stereo Unlimited and they were quick to exchange it for a replacement. The staff were extremely courteous and helpful. So if you are in search of the best-quality audio gear or vinyl records, I highly recommend doing business with Stereo Unlimited. Ray diagnosed the dead woofer in my speaker and promptly ordered a replacement through the US distributor. Ray advocated for me extensively with the distributor of the part and provided prompt updates, even for a small service job on an old speaker like this. I visited a few stereo stores recently as I was looking to upgrade my audio video receiver from 2004. I tend to buy high end, high quality, products, but I insist on getting a fair price. Nearly every shop I visited in Orange, LA, Riverside, and San Diego counties had informed and reasonably pleasant staff. I learned a little bit more from each shop I visited. I started off with a list of half a dozen AVRs that met my criteria based on internet research. I was prepared to buy from Crutchfield online because they have provided an excellent price point in the past, provide decent phone support, and generally have good pricing. After a few weeks of visiting shops (worked around other business so these were essentially my lunch breaks from work) I had narrowed my choices down to two. So I started to focus more on price. All the SoCal shops, plus Crutchfield, Amazon, and a couple from the east coast had the same price. Ebay had the lowest price, but trying to get technical support for an eBay (or Amazon) purchase is next to impossible. The guys at Stereo Unlimited (the last shop I visited due to work flow) provided the same low price as eBay and they were local. What really set them apart is I had an issue setting the AVR up two days later? They spent close to 30 minutes on the phone with me, then provided a phone number for a specialist with knowledge regarding the app I needed for the system to work. The specialist then spent 45 minutes working with me to fix the problem. The problem was my WIFI system and he identified the issue and helped me solve it. I now have an awesome AVR with the greatest new tech (anyway all that I care about), and my family loves the results. I have known and shopped at Stereo Unlimited, owned by Bruce and Ray, for over 40 years. This is a personalized local small business with a niche not otherwise found in San Diego. I have come back over and over through the years, upgrading, changing, adding and installing equipment. Ray has been my go to guy for information about gear and upgrades to my system(s). I always felt that my needs were always primary rather than just their needs to sell equipment. They are honest, have integrity, stand behind their products, find answers when they are unsure and have incredible amount of experience. They have always treated me well and worked around my budget. Their store doesn't look like a high end retail store, however the products they sell are from entry level to high end. Ray has always discussed alternatives, recognized that different people like different sounds, sights, and brands. I see them as my tech doctors for audio/video equipment. I am thankful to have had a relationship with them for these 40+ years. Bruce has always been a vinyl audiophile. His collection of used (some never played) vinyl records is very large. He takes great pride in the quality and diversity of music he offers to people who love music. I want to commend the installation crew lead by Ken. He is reliable, engaging, tenacious, considerate, perceptive and trustworthy. He is not just doing a job. He wanted to satisfy me and would go the extra yard to do so. His work was neat and well thought out. If you are serious about audio and video, I want to encourage people who read this review to include them in their search for home audio and video.
