They FIIIIIIINALLLLY got the correct stereo extension in. Finally. After weeks and weeks. I leave work early to get the work done. I get there. Dude has no idea what I'm talking about. Stares at a computer screen for a few minutes. And then takes off to "the back" for about another five or ten. Then finally admits that he found the correct attachment. Says it'll be "somewhere around $200." Errrm. THANK YOU for being SO specific. **wait....wait** So, you gonna charge me? Some boss man is looking over dude's shoulder and says, "Whoa, man. You gonna charge her or you gonna direct her where to go you damn idiot?" (Okay, I'm pretty sure there was no "damn idiot" part, but the tone in his voice definitely said it all.) Dude goes, "Uhhhh. Charge after installation." Me: "Okay." Bossman looks dubious. Shakes his head. Looks at me. "Installation will take approximately an hour. If you'd like to stay, there's a sitting area around the corner." The installation dude was nice, and worked with me to find a convenient location for my iPod cord. And it ended up being a flat $200, which is cool. Because I'm pretty sure my parents' cost $280. Which is not cool, because we got the same cord. And it's all about consistency. This is still definitely a one-star establishment. But I got my goddamned stereo upgraded finally, and that's at least worth one extra. Right? read more

The Clackamas location did not have what I needed but their Gresham location did. I could wait a week (what takes a week?) for the item to be delivered to Clackamas from Gresham, or I could drive to Gresham. I drove to Gresham. I bought a pair of speaker boxes, one set of two, a pair, not two pair (4 boxes), just 2 boxes. I was charged for 2 sets, or 4 boxes. I didn't know this so it was a surprise when I went to return the boxes and was refunded for one pair, not for what I was charged for. They said I bought two pair and because that is what the receipt said, that is what I was getting credit for. They could not call Gresham because the guy who rang me up, was not working, and would not be in for 3-days. Their inventory system is not accurate, so they could not see the quantity of boxes that left the store. They would not call the manager because it was his day off. No one in the shop is a trusted enough employee to make a $28 refund decision to a good, returning customer. I probably overreacted, and should have waited 3-days until people that could make decisions were there, but it was frustrating to be called a cheat, a liar, a thief, because of their error. A place that cared about their customers would have figured it out. A place that cared about their employees would empower them to make decisions to provide service to the customer. I will not shop there again, and I am not sure why anyone would want to work where they are not trusted. read more

After making the mistake of going to Outrageous Audio a few years back, I did some research for a new stereo spot. Found it. Stereo King has been around since the 60's. Soak that up for a moment. Like any local business, they can't compete with internet and ebay sale prices. But, you can haggle a bit here. I would highly suggest not making any impulse buys at the Stereo King. Do your research. But don't be an idiot and say "but I can get this $50 cheaper on the intrawebz". I'm sure you can, but you don't get the service, you don't get to hold it in your hand, you aren't supporting a local business, and if it fails, well good luck getting it replaced. And I quickly discovered, once you start the ball a moving, you can haggle even more. I spent nearly $1500 over the last few weeks in alarm gear, a new deck, assorted installs, and so on. The more I've been in, the more they help me out on the price. As long as they maintain this level of service, and keep their prices competitive with other local retailers, and keep up the great install work, I'll keep coming back. The upsides are numerous and I feel I touched on them sufficiently. The downsides are small, and include this. No appointments for installs, it's first come first serve. Two, while their prices are competitive locally, they just can't come close to online pricing. But like I mentioned, buying big ticket items online is a gamble. read more

I came into the shop to look at some new stereos. After finding the deck I wanted i bought it and took it home to install it myself. Once I open the box, I found that someone had opened it and tried to install once before. once I started digging I found that the deck I just bought was a used refurbished deck. I was very upset due to the fact I asked for an NEW deck. I will never shop here again!!!! I do not trust them!!!! Buyer Beware!!!!!!! read more

So I don't have a ton of knowledge on stereos and I just wanted a nice set up with a reverse camera and apple car play. The guy that set up my quote was friendly and helpful but when I can into get it installed another guy was there and said they didn't have the deck he quoted me on (4 days ago) and that I had to upgrade another $100. So fine whatever I get my truck back the deck works fine but he tells me the installer said it was to hard to get my usb in the front of my cab so he used the on on the passenger side floor instead. Wtf how am I supposed to reach that? So it is what it is but those 2 things will probably make me never come back here again. Just FYI I spent $1300 on a deck and reverse camera. My goal when talking with the first guy was to stay near $1000 read more

I decided, as a fun DIY project, to upgrade my car stereo myself. I found an online guide, got a list of parts I needed, and priced them out online - $60 total. But I wanted to buy from a local business rather than some random website, so I emailed my list to this Stereo King location. I provided all the exact parts I wanted, along with prices, in an extremely concise email, and asked if they carried them. I got back a five word response: "We have all the parts." "Ok," I thought. "These guys aren't much for email communication. I won't hold that against them." When I got there, they tried to sell me other parts that came to around $200. In the process, they made me feel like an idiot for trying to learn how to do this myself. I left there, and drove two blocks away to Car Toys. Normal guys, knowledgeable, and super nice and helpful. So much more professional. I got the parts I needed, with helpful advice and no insulting tone, for about $50 less. read more

These guys are the absolute worst,EVER.Installed a $$3500.00 system last year, not one single thing has ever worked right(except FM radio, but iffy)I have spent over 20 hours waiting at their shops,NOTHING WORKS STILL.Go ANYWHERE else, including your friends garage read more

I had a new stereo put in my Altima in November 2010. Everyone was super friendly and helpful and the stereo still works great. Shortly after the installation, I realized that my passenger-side controls weren't working (window, auto door lock). I believe that, when they put the new speaker in the door, some wires didn't get put back together quite right. I didn't do anything about it because it was winter and then I just got lazy about it. I was so used to working around it and, as more time went on, I was embarrassed that I had waited so long. Here's where their service went through the roof. I went into the shop three days ago to see if they would take a look at it. Other than being a little surprised that I hadn't done anything about it for over three years (fair), they took care of it. They fixed it (and my broken key fob) in less than 20 minutes and I was out the door. Long review here...ack! But can't say enough good things about my experiences here. Thanks! read more

Nice enough people.....BUT....was quoted $145 to put a pair of speakers in my vehicle. Came back 4 days later to have it done, and all of a sudden it was now going to cost $215. Went to Car Toys down the road, and paid $146 and change for the same thing. read more

Great customer service, bought a stereo on Amazon but couldn't figure out the wiring to put into my car. Dear Stereo King Manager Please send all of your staff to customer service training. Please remind your staff that customers like me pay their salaries, so they should be nice to me. Thanks Good customer who's paid you guys a few thousand dollars Hi John I know that to assist you and your team I should provide additional details. So here goes. I'll probably still come back to you guys if I need anything. I just wanted to vent and give you some feedback. Thanks Mck I've had Stereo King put in two systems in two vehicles for me. They did a good job and are knowledgeable of the products. The installs seem quality and I've gone back with issues and they have addressed them (re install lifetime warranty). The only thing is these guys all need to take customer service classes. Most of the time the guy sitting at the front desk (the first person customers see and talk with) barely talks and seems uninterested in being there. Today I went in and described my issue, "My RAV4 system that you guys put in awhile back is having some interference [etc]". He asked me for my phone number and looked me up in the computer. Then he called the back to page an installer to assist. Great! Then I asked "How are we doing time-wise, how long do you think it will take?" His answer "I haven't the foggiest. I don't even know what kind of car you have." Me: "RAV4" Him: "Oh you just said that". That's it and he's done talking. Still no time estimate. Dude be nice to me! I pay your salary! I make good money and am willing to share it with you guys to buy your stuff and services but rule number one is don't be mean. There is a WAY to say things even if you don't know the answer. The first employee to greet a customer should be welcoming and courteous, and usually this first greet is indicative of how the whole interaction with the company will go. Ok well I'm not mad or anything and will probably go back to Stereo King. read more

The customer service at this location was terrible. My 17 year old son brought his Bug in to have a stereo installed and when there was a problem with the car and stereo they gave him the brush off and would tell him to come in and then not have time for him and tell him to come in the next day. The price they charged him for the stereo and labor was beyond outrageous. When my husband called to see if they could refund some of the ridiculous fees, he was told the owner was on vacation and could not be reached for close to 2 weeks. The last time my son brought his car in, they essentially disconnected everything and told him he was on his own. $800+ later and still no working stereo. I strongly discourage anyone from doing business here. read more

Drove around Portland a bit this week trying to talk to someone about upgrading the sound in my car. Everyone seemed uninterested in helping me. I guess I looked broke or something. Came in to Stereo King on Black Friday. Super busy. I was immediately greeted by several employees. Then the salesman listened to what I wanted. Asked me appropriate questions so he could let me know what would work best for my car. No pressure. Showed me my options. Once I made a decision they got my car right in for install. The price was great. The install is professional and within an hour I was out of there with my set up. Sounds great. I'll definitely be returning to add to it. read more

I've dealt with quite a few Car Audio businesses in my years in the car industry. But Jordan, Andy, the new guy ;) and the rest of the crew were amazing. My 4Runner just needed a little love and they handled it. Professionals all the way. Customer service is the key to repeat and referral. They understood that I had some experience in this arena and gave me incredible help, respect and have earned a life customer both personally and as a referral point for my customers. Thanks guys!! Purchased a stereo and install from these guys back in July, and noticed when I was driving it home that when it was in aux mode there was a horrendous crackling noise and when it was in all other modes there was a very high pitched electronic buzz that would go up and down with the engine speed. My son had the car away for some weeks so in August I contacted them in person about the problem. I brought it in and left it off a second time for them to fix the issue I described. They weren't in touch at all so after no replies from chat or calls or emails I stopped by in person and they said it was done. Drove it home and realized it was exactly the same as before! Needless to say I was very frustrated, not only because it was tricky for my family of 4 to be down a car, but now felt like we'd really been taken advantage of to the tune of $550 for a worse-sounding stereo than the stock one. After repeated tries to contact them without replies (note this theme) I went in person again and insisted that the install guy listen to the problem and sat in the car and verified with him the huge crackling sound in aux mode. He insisted the buzz was less than before but it was still there. Left if off again, no communication again, issues were still there after the third time and I was done now. I called and emailed asking for them to refund my money and put the stock stereo back in or make it right by giving me a comparable unit instead. My only reply was via email asking if I would take a smaller-face unit to which I replied no I wanted the same style and asked how they would make it right. After that there were no more replies - they totally ghosted me. So finally I called the credit card company I used and reported that I didn't get what I paid for from them. What do you know, once I did this I finally heard back from them (this is now 3 months after the original purchase and install) and they're saying they will refund my money and put the stock unit back in. Hoping that this fourth time they don't screw it up. Leaving this review to save you the money, time and frustration I've had to endure. Stay far away from this business! read more

Very impressive customer service. We came by on Black Friday for some speakers that were on sale. They actually opened the doors a few minutes early which was nice. The employees were very friendly and helpful and even repackaged the speakers for us (it came with two round speakers and two oval ones but we needed 4 round speakers). We asked about their stereo installation costs and they are lower than most of the places I've looked at in the area. They gave us a bag full of free swag and answered all of our questions. I never felt talked down to (guys can do that sometimes with women). I'm looking to upgrade my head unit soon and will definitely return here. Their friendly service won my loyalty. read more

I recently visited Stereo King for a recommendation for front-door replacement speakers. Dave (of their staff) recommended a brand (Hertz), gave me an opinion of the speakers' merits relative to other brands, and gave me an informed opinion about chances it would fit. I am extremely satisfied with my experience and my purchase! The Hertz coaxial speakers produce an accurate, lively, and musical tone (to me) and seem better constructed than most speakers even in the same price range ($150-ish). The product and opinions I received were accurate and saved me time and from potentially purchasing the wrong equipment. Thus I am happy to evaluate my Stereo King experience as great. read more

After years of going to a competitor, I stopped in here when the competitor couldn't handle a simple alarm install. Jordan got me in right away and it was an easy job for Stereo King. That was a year ago. Last week I stopped in with my 2010 Ram and Andy sold me on a new setup. He was able to accommodate me and my million questions, and then got the installers to complete the job the same day even though they were pretty busy. Andy also went out of his way to call me later that night and let me know he overcharged me $100 and was crediting my account. I would have never known as I wasn't paying that much attention to my statement that day. Andy also was willing to do extra research to again fulfill one of my requests. So far I have been very happy with Stereo King, Jordan, and Andy. read more

I highly recommend Stereo King. Jacob provided excellent service. He provided good advice for choosing a new receiver, went the extra mile tracking down installation parts, and promptly replaced an incorrect adapter for me at no extra charge - even though I didn't have the packaging for the one I returned. This place is horrible it took them 6 different tries to hook up my stereo the D Travis sold me a bunch of stuff I totally did not need. And after 3 weeks my stereo quit working with my phone and they couldn't figure out why the guy told me he was the app guru but he did no shit. read more

NOT a good experience with this business. My wife took her new car into the place because she wanted a way to plug in her Ipod. The salesmen sold her a nice Ipod Dock, and she seemed happy. She took it in to get it installed, had the work done, and came home. (Important Note: We did not receive an owners manual for our 2007 Yaris, and we had the car for 2 days at this point). I begin really checking out the car, and I find that it actually DOES have an aux input for Ipods, and it's just hidden VERY well on the passenger side. I went into the business and asked them why, if they are indeed experts in stereo's, they did not inform my wife that there was ALREADY a way to listen to her Ipod, and the man said "Yes, but she really wanted the dock!". I then instructed them to uninstall the dock and return my money, and they did, BUT he would not give me a full refund. He Charged me a 25% restocking fee for the merchandise, and would not refund the installation charges. All said and done, the manager ended up taking $75 of my money. I've worked with logistics for a fortune 500 company for years, and I know that sometimes you "take the bullet" in a situation where your salesman sold a customer something they didn't need. The item could have been returned to the vendor for full refund. I find this very shady. read more

I was overall pretty impressed with the service and sales at this place. It's basically what you expect from a stereo place - you get anything from low-end product to as fancy as your little heart desires. The pricing is pretty fair - and they were really cool about putting in both wires for a stereo that the sales guy told me would work with all the iPods that I have. Since I have the new, the old and the in between, I suppose that this can be a bit of a challenge - but they all work, and they work well. The stereo is in there nice and solidly, and overall would definitely return when the time comes. Even though most of this stuff is something I could do on my own - it's more of a pain in the butt than it's worth... as I can have them put it in for about $35. Considering that it would take me most of the day to do it myself, I find that 1/2 of my day is worth more than $35 - and I was solidly impressed with the work done by the guys over at Stereo King. They were also remodeling when I went in there last to provide more display space - would be fun to get back in there to check out what they've got. Kevin and everyone at Stereo King were very helpful and set me up with exactly what I was looking for.

I don't recommend this place. I had jumper cable plugs installed on one of my trucks on the front and back bumper. They charged me almost $600.00 to just run the cable to the battery. I supplied the cable and all the hardware $600.00 Is too much considering it's about a 3 hour job. And besides that they don't call you to let you know that your vehicle is done. Prior to this visit I brought my truck to them a week earlier to get the work done. I was there rite when they opened at 9AM. my truck sat in their parking lot all day. I didn't receive any phone call. I go back there to check on it around 3:30PM they hadn't even touch it. I thought I would give them another try. Because I bought a pair of Amp Research power steps for my dad's truck for Christmas. So we just needed someone to install them and with the holiday so close we was out of options to get them installed before the weekend. So we call stereo king on 82nd Ave in Clackamas on Monday 12/18/17. Talked with Dave. He told us it would be between $200.00 and $300.00 bucks to install are power steps that we supplied. We was good with that since I called Amp Research direct to see what the labor hour's should be. They told me between 3-4 hour's for completion. Dave told us they could get it done on Wednesday. So we brought them the truck on Wednesday 12/20/17 we again was there rite when they opened at 9AM. They had the truck all day we didn't receive any phone call with any status on it. My dad and I go back there to check on it around 4PM Dave told us that it would be another 2 hours but he would call he said. My dad and I go home no phone call from Dave. My dad and I go back there to check on it around 10:30 AM on Thursday 12/21/17 the truck was done who knows for how long. Did Dave charge us the between $200.00 and $300.00 that he told us. Oh heck no. He charged $600.00 on a what was suppose to be a 4 hour job. Stereo king doesn't stay anywhere close to the labor cost quote that they tell you. Too PRICEY read more

Called about some accessories for my Ford F-150. Talked to a guy for about 10 minutes. He seemed helpful at first, but was a little condescending at times also. For example, I want to buy a digital keypad to install on the door of my 2018 F150. The guy told me (as if i was an idiot) that the truck has it already. I was pretty sure he was wrong since, I was standing at the door of my truck assuring him that is not the case. So he begrudgingly said he would look everything up for me and get back to me in 10-15 minutes tops. Well, it is the next day and my door still is without a keypad ... waste of time and clearly didn't fully know what he was talking about... First off comes the initial interaction here. I walk in to see four people behind the counter, all looking into computer monitors....with noone else in the store I kind of anticipated a hello or something....so as I stand there someone finally looks up and says "Steve you got a customer". Confused, out walks steve from stocking some equipment. I dont expected to be treated like royalty, but what the heck are all these people doing here at the front counter without having a shred of customer service cares... So, as I address the need for some hertz speakers to be installed into my car, Steve and I begin to go over price. Now, Steve is a nice guy, but this stores' methodology of quoting prices is to merely write down prices on a people of paper in pencil and then say " okay it will be about 800" I already knew this to be a decent, mind you decent so I said what the hell and agreed., Once my stereo was installed, by the most arogant and totally incapable of any customer service installer/person I have ever met in my life, I asked it they had made some adjustments to the EQ or anything in my deck to better the sound quality of my new non stock badass speakers. "Of course" the installer said. So, as I was going to thank him he interuppted me to say that he had set all of the EQ settings to zero so it would not sound like s**T like I had set them before. Completly awestricken I first thought, why have an EQ if you are just going to leave the settings to zero? And why is this person not sitting in the back permanently where he can never have contact with humans; furthermore, why is this person employed! As I was rang up I am told the estimate was wrong and it would be another 80 bucks....confused as to why, I was now given a printed explanation of prices....ugg So, Steve tells me the next step is the sub, and the the lame installer guy told him to tell me (mind you installer is standing next to me) that I had lost some bass with the new speakers but they sounded great. So I am thinking huh? why would I lose anything with 800 speakers and amp installed? wouldnt they be all around better than the stock speakers? hmm..... So, I listen to my stereo as I go home....yes the clarity sounds great, but it sounds like shit....no bass at all and just high end ear popping hi's and very little mids. oh, and at full blast I can kinda make out vocals as I drive down the road with the windows down. So when I accessed my amp that is in a very strategic place in my car so as not to be seen. My car has a spot for an amp behind the plaseic walls of the back area....I find the amp to be set as such.....Gain...all the way down...off if you will. Xover...set to hi's. So, I am convinced that these douche bags set my system to sound like crap so I would by a sub and another amp...then set the other speakers to sound good and say "see that made all the differance". Now that I have set my amp properly, my stereo sounds amazing and I will NEVER EVER go back to the King....EVER!! read more
