They don't just do stereos! They also do window tinting. I took my car for window tinting at the SE 82nd location in Clackamas. Everyone was so friendly and professional and in spite of all the disclosures on their paperwork, my tinting came out PERFECT!! Logan was extra helpful and went the extra mile!! He showed me on actual vehicles what each percentage of tinting looks like. It's so different to see it on the actual vehicle and I changed my mind a few times. Logan was very patient and helpful and stated that he wanted to make sure I got exactly what I wanted. I stopped by because my amp and subwoofer were acting up and I was having the hardest time getting them to work. I showed up scared they were going to charge me but Cory O was so extremely helpful with reconnecting the wires and fixing every single thing that was wrong with it. He was very friendly and hopped straight into the hood to fix the problem. He also helped me re duct tape my car because it is falling apart. Recently bought a new car stereo and tried to install it myself, I've done it in the past and I'm pretty handy with electronics. Our old Honda Fit needed a new radio. Nothing fancy... just some ability to play broadcast and bluetooth music. Initially I was given one price, but when I came back to make the purchase the price of installation had go e up significantly. Normally, that would cause me to give a less than favorable rating. However, I was partly to blame; I did not bring the Honda when I asked for the quote. They were partly at fault for not telling me the quote wasn't "firm." However, they worked with me to lower the price, and we met amicably in the middle. The install was very good, and reasonably fast. They were very pleasant to work with, and very professional. They even took the time to walk us through the features of the unit before we left. Overall, it was a good experience, and it felt good to do business with a local company. The main takeaway here is, take the vehicle that needs the service, and take the time to get a fully written quote so that there are no surprises for you or for them. read more

Disappointed. The product is fine. Had am/fm/cd/ blue tooth installed as well as a viper car alarm. The unfortunate issue is that due to battery being disconnected, vehicle lost its base throttle place position. Throttle plate was closing100% causing a full rich condition which flooded the engine causing it to die. This did not start happening until the following morning after the jeep had time to set and not reset properly. I took the vehicle back out to Forrest Grove where I bought it and they cleaned throttle body and reset base position. I understand Stereo King is not a repair garage but since they install so many systems, you'd think they would have know that this could happen.. An additional $151.84 that I wasn't expecting to pay after everything was said and done. As well as a scary trip to Forrest Grove for repair yesterday. Will never use Stereo King again!!! read more

Went in planning complete audio system for DIY install. Decent selection but lots of products missing prices. Prices shown were fair, along the lines of major online retailers, but no big deals to be had. It's nice not to get a hard sell but I had to seek out help and go through three guys before I found someone who actually knew anything about their stock. Not tough questions, just basic stuff. I get the sense they are mostly selling full installs, not supplying people who have basic 12-volt skill. Nobody was wearing masks behind the plexiglass shields, they put them on when they come out. Which is a compromise I guess except it's not like it was a full glass booth, and now you're also putting whatever germs you coughed on your hands or got touching your nose all over the products you're trying to showcase. They do have sanitizer at the counter. I'll definitely go back here when I need something right away or can't easily find it online, but I was hoping to be excited by this place and it's just.. fine. By comparison Outrageous Audio is aesthetically stuck in 1988 and they try to upsell you on anything you look at, but there are real savings to be had and they know what they are talking about- both factors when you're looking to buy one of everything. We have been customers fo 15+ years with several cars. I was sad to hear Dave recently passed away, still young, and genuinely loved by his staff and customers. Kevin treats me like a real friend and always recognizes me and calls me by name, even though I only get something installed about every 3 or 4 years. They are real people who genuinely care, and they will work to make sure customers are happy. That doesn't mean they never make a mistake - It means they stand by their work and products, and they make things right. Once, they replaced an entire head unit that failed (at no cost to me and without any back talk). "No problem. Don't worry about it. We will have it ready later today." No questions, receipts, or anything. They had my order pulled up and knew every detail. They are willing to get creative for custom installations, building cabinets, rewiring switches, and even installing wonky 3rd party products I bought elsewhere and asked them to install. The prices always seem fair and lower than competitors in the neighborhood. The store is not a glitzy showroom, but rather a low cost space with boxes piled everywhere. If you want smooth talking and plush carpet, you can go elsewhere and pay far more and deal with inexperienced salespeople and installers. These are just honest folks who just keep it simple and do solid work at a good price. I recommend going in looking to make a friend and to show some respect, and you'll be treated the same way. It is rare these days to find people who actually care like they do, so please don't ruin it for the rest of us. Please don't go in being a price-bully and a nitpick, because the rest of us would like them to stick around, showing enthusiasm and putting their heart into each project. I've been buying stereos, speakers, and other items they sale at Stereo King since I was 15 years old and I'm now almost 66 years old. That's 51 years of doing business with Stereo King at their different locations around the Portland and Gresham area. Although most of my business was with their 82nd street location. Also was their first and only store originally! I have never had a bad experience with stereo king except for once with one of their installers and this goes way back when the original owner and his Dad was at the original store. When I mentioned the issue with the owners Dad he immediately fired the installer for his bad attitude and apparently it wasn't the first complaint either. Stereo King owner's Dad always treated me like a friend and was always very good to me. Even though he's unfortunately long gone and passed away now for quite a few years. My loyalty to their company is still intact. I may not get that close friendship feeling any more with the original owner gone. But their service and products really haven't change and I still haven't had any complaints with their service nor their staff and everything I have bought hasn't given me any problems yet! A couple times I have gone to their competitors and bought a thing or two as well. Other competitors were alright with their service too and I didn't have any problems there either. But there's just something about Stereo king that keeps drawing me back to their stores, maybe it's just the long standing relationship I have with the original owners? Either way, stereo king is almost a feeling like home to me since I have spent so many years buying from them! I had a wonderful experience at Stereo King.. I had a blown woofer that had been wrongly diagnosed from a different buisness back at end of 2021. So i went into Car Toys on 102nd. When I entered both employees were on the phone and tuned their backs to me without so much as a smile or a gesture that it would be a minute.Once he did speak to me he said I'd have to leave my car there and it would take a bit and START at the $50 I had been quoted over the phone.Odd as both his installers were sitting down in the back and playing on their phones. ***PLEASE READ BEFORE COMING HERE*** First let me start by saying that I hardly ever leave reviews. I got a stereo installed here yesterday and I completely regret it. The sales person was kinda rude and sarcastic to me because I didn't know much about stereos; and I'm also hard of hearing. I was just looking for something cheap because my car had a cassette deck stereo installed but I ended up spending $250 on a basic stereo (which didn't even come with a remote)and bad service. He tries to sell you on the system by saying that he has it and you get a warranty (which applies at any retail outlet) I really feel like I was ripped off. The sales man was pushy and was following me/stared me down when I stepped aside to compare prices at different places. My gut told me to leave and I should have listened. They didn't even tell me that they were done so I was just sitting there waiting for no reason until I asked them. They left pistachios shells in my car which is disgusting. They charge $85 ($115 if you don't buy the speaker from them Best Buy only charges $65) for installation when you can get it done at Best Buy for free (which I unfortunately found out too late) and charged $60 for the harness which was runs around $17+ at Best Buy. I could've saved at least $150 by going to Best Buy and probably gotten better service..and had money left over for speakers or tune-up, etc. It sucks to be ripped off because I'm a single parent and college student so my money is tight. I'm all for supporting local businesses but they need to do a better job at respecting their customers that spend their hard earned money in their establishments. I would never come here again or recommend it to a friend, Best Buy has better prices on stereos, they match prices, have cheaper installation, and are more professional (not leaving their food in your car). Don't waste your money at this place. Be smarter than me. I would hate to see someone else get robbed like I was. Best Buy is tight down the road--only 1.5 miles away (a 6 minute drive from this place) and installation takes around the same amount of time. I do not work for Best Buy by the way, just trying to help someone that might be I'm the same shoes as me...I really wish I had of been warned!! read more

Had aftermarket speakers installed at a Best Buy and sadly one developed a rattle. Took it in to Stereo King and they put in screws to hold the speaker in place that the previous installer had missed. Stereo Kings installer put screws in both sides both sides so the other speaker wouldn't also develop a rattle. It was only 55 bucks. A very satisfied customer. read more

I took my 2005 Scion Xb toaster here to replace a stock Pioneer that just wasn't doing it for me. Now, I am an audiophile but just not a CAR audiophile. When I walked in I'm sure I just looked like some rube but they took good care of me nonetheless - the car sounded great but the installation was off so the faceplate wouldn't fully come off and I was just really unsatisfied with the Kenwood head they picked for me. So I came back, explained that I was unhappy and they agreed to swap out the head with another unit with no hassle whatsoever. Low and behold, now I am EXTREMELY happy with this bare-bones Pioneer unit! Turns out I was paying for a ton of stuff I personally won't ever use and it even got me $80 back. I got screwed over by two other shops before finally getting my act together and going to the best stereo shop Stereo King. I told them what the problem was and they did their best to help me get bumping again. They even took the time to see if my old amp was actually working and to see if it would work with my new subs. This is my 2nd bad experience here. I came in looking for a replacement for my factory stereo in my 2014 Toyota RAV4. My requirements were I wanted CarPlay, all my steering wheel controls, factory backup camera, and any other basic systems to still work on the new stereo. I was told that they could use multiple harnesses to get my camera to work, but told me my built in USB port wouldn't work. What's even worse is they gave me a price before I even looked at a stereo. He told me it was gonna be starting at about $1200 and when I asked why so much he explained the camera needed some extra wiring, and I don't even know if this price included the stereo! This place takes advantage of anyone who hasn't done any prior research, and I felt more like a burden than a customer (and I was the only one in the store!) I went down the street to car toys, and they got everything I needed, was able to get my backup cam wired with just the standard harness, wired my existing USB port and gave me even more features than I had before, all for $1000 WITH a 4 year warranty! Out of the many that work here 2-3 actually know what they're doing. Their tech's know basic installs meaning they know how to read instructions on how to install as if it were an IKEA manual. Now I had to go back because one tech couldn't figure out how to install a pre-purchased deck that was supposed to be around $285 including running backup camera, but when all was said and done $610. This included a new deck because their tech couldn't figure it out. I took it all apart because it was a pos and got my deck to fit perfectly, took it back and asked them to put my deck in and fix it like I wanted. The manager Kevin set me with an appointment and told me that the tech that was working on it wasn't that great, but his good tech is in M-F and he would work on my truck. Showed up to my appointment and then the front desk told me they needed to charge me for more parts after they are causing me to come back so they can fix their mistake. Will not come back again. Why is it that Kevin seems to be the only person that knows what is going on? Updated* I noticed Jacob T. Who works for this establishment thought their unprofessional behavior was funny and expressed that here on Yelp.
