I was given the responsibility of helping a family friend liquidate various collections her husband had accumulated over the years. The people at "Stuff" have been amazing and have been more than fair in what they have offered for the items I've brought to them thus far. In fact, I recently left 5 boxes of camera equipment with them and asked them to call after they went through everything. I had given them a rough idea of an amount I was hoping for and they actually called me and offered me more than I suggested would be a fair price. How amazing is that?! To say I'm thankful would be an understatement. I highly recommend this store to anyone who had items they no longer need or want. As long as you are fair with them, they will be more than fair with you. To the people who have complained, I will remind them of this. They have a lot of overhead just like any business does. Between payroll, taxes, insurance and all the other expenses necessary to operate there's only have so much room left to negotiate. So don't go in there thinking you're going to get an eBay price when you're not the one paying the eBay seller fees, etc. If you want more money, fine just sell it yourself. Honestly though, thank you so much guys. You all are the best ...

The non-clothes section is probably half as big and the men's clothing section is much smaller too. I also felt like the store was more picked over with not as many quality things, plus the prices seemed higher. I don't think I'd come back to this location.

The merchandise has always seemed to be good quality, it's always clean and well lit, the racks are rarely overstuffed, and an important aspect to me, it seemed like there were several long term employees, a sign of a good employer and a higher likelihood of very good customer service. Which has always been my experience, until today, when I had the most genuinely shocking experience. My partner and I stopped in today to kill a few minutes while we waited for our kids to get out of school, and so I could look for a few pieces for a crafting project I'm working on. I quickly found an item that seemed like it would work well for me, picked up a couple of other unneeded but fun items, and made our way to the register, just as I had many times over the years. As I reached the front counter, I was suddenly accosted by a female employee who I didn't recognize from prior visits. She informed me that she "knew that I had been trespassed" from this location. I was literally astonished, as I've never had even the smallest unpleasant exchange with staff here and would certainly remember if they had kicked me out! I assured the woman that there was a mistake, explaining how many times I frequent this location, often with my kids. She replied sarcastically "oh, I know". Still shocked by the accusation and even more so by the rude demeanor, I asked the woman what this could possibly be regarding- I would've been glad to show my ID and verify that neither she nor any other employee has ever "trespassed" me or my partner. She told me that she couldn't tell me that. Even stranger, she told me there was one employee there who, if she said that I had been trespassed, she would 100% take her word for it. This woman came over to where we were standing and "verified" that my partner and I were not allowed in the store. Having shopped this goodwill probably at least once a month for 15 years, I can tell you I have never seen this woman before in my life. They then made us leave the merchandise we planned to buy and leave the store. This experience was so surreal I don't even know what to think. Again, I've spent probably well over $1,000 in the years I've been going to this store. I've never even had a disagreement with an employer here. I understand that some businesses can attract shady characters, and I don't begrudge them keeping an eye out. But to respond to a longtime customer not only with the absolute certainty of a mistaken assumption but to do so with such utter lack of manners or professionalism is truly shocking to me. I would gladly have shown ID, politely found a way to show that this was seemingly a case of mistaken identity, but it was clear from the outset that these employees were not interested in a positive outcome. What disturbs me most greatly is that this was one of only a couple times my partner has joined me shopping at this store, and it's really difficult for me to not wonder if the treason these two white women suddenly singled us out (again, because I am in this store so often) is because my partner is a BIPOC. I truly hope that the reason I was, after 15 years, accused of a being a pretty crook banned from their neighborhood thrift store was simply coincidental to my partner's race. In any event, I still cannot believe or accept how rude, hurtful, and unprofessional these two employees behaved. Surely there must be some kind of policy of Goodwill of the greater Willamette to ensure that banned individuals are not mixed up with loyal, long term customers who are normally quite happy to spend their money supporting Goodwill and their mission, rather than leaving in tears of embarrassment and frustration. I really, really hope someone higher in the Goodwill organization will take the time to reach out and make this right. Until then I feel like my only recourse is to publicize this horrifying incident.

From the moment we walked in, we were impressed by how much stuff there was to look at. It's a big, sprawling thrift/consignment shop full of clothes, home stuff, accessories, shoes, random knick-knacks -- all sort of jumbled together in a way that makes browsing feel like treasure-hunting. We found ourselves drifting between aisles, poking through racks and shelves, and laughing at the weird, random stuff -- exactly the kind of spontaneous outing you want when you're with a partner and feeling casual. One review on Yelp summed it up perfectly: "This place has so much cool stuff, I had to really stop myself from buying everything lol." That's exactly how it felt -- part treasure-hunt, part nostalgia-trip, part bargain-hunting spree. What I loved about Village Merchants: * Variety: Clothes, jewelry, home goods, even old/outdoor items -- you never know what you'll find. * Budget-friendly: There were a lot of items at reasonable prices (or even "steals"), which made it fun to browse without worrying about overspending. * Good for pairs: Because there's so much to see and hunt through, it's a fun, low-pressure activity to do together. No rush, no expectations -- just exploring and chatting. Downsides / what to know: * It's easy to get overwhelmed by the amount of stuff. Half the fun is digging; half the challenge is picking what you actually want. * Not everything is "dupe-worthy": some items are random, mismatched, or just "meh." You need patience to sift through. My Verdict: Village Merchants is a surprisingly fun little escape for a budget-conscious couple who doesn't need fancy restaurants or parties -- just something chill, slightly quirky, and with a chance you'll score something cool. I'd totally go back again.

The current iteration (whose name I did not notice), has a separate room inside with arty, gothy, new items that have high prices for a thrift store. The sidewalk has racks, shelves, and bins of clothes, shoes, VHS tapes in the sun, furniture, and random items. The inside has decor, books, furnishings, games, etc. Sounds kind of normal, right? Wrong: No prices were marked on the thrift merchandise. I didn't see anything I wanted enough to start the haggle process. My recommendation to the operator is to price everything. Staplers, index cards, and masking tape are cheap. At the very least, post a sign with generic prices like jeans $5, shoes $7, tops $4, books $2, melted vhs tapes FREE.

My friends would be surprised, but I buy as many of my clothes resale as I can. So when I saw Remedies, I made a mental not to check it out on a kid free day. Now, I was conflicted about the star rating. I like my resale, well curated. Thoughtfully selected, high quality pieces that I know will last even though I am their second (or third) owner. Remedies is not that. Most of the items are big box store or anchor store brands, i.e. Macy's, Walmart, JCPenney, Sears, etc. with some teen brands thrown in. Flipping through the jeans section the highest quality pair I found were from Banana Republic and there was only one pair of those. I know I am being highly critical, but that is because with resale you have to be. You have to know your brands and what they are worth, in order to not waste your money. I think this could be a cute and popular store with some editing. It looks more thrift store, than resale now. As if they aren't choosing pieces so much as taking donations. It look cluttered and unorganized as you walk in. So even arranging things by color as well as size would make it more appealing. I really wanted to be able to give them 3-stars because I love my neighbors, I love small businesses, I want them to succeed. But I also can't lie and say I will be back very often. I will check up occasionally and update.

And it seemed to be a pretty good sized store, looked good through the window, and had easy parking I'm not sure how many different staff members there are and if others any different. But there is a man working there that just seemed to immediately have the stink eye towards me and other customers, seemingly for just existing. And I'm an introvert, so I'm not the type of person that expects high maintenance, super smiley customer service - neutral is always totally fine. But this guy wasn't neutral at all. You can tell when someone looks down on you. Plus dude was curt, cranky and snapped at people. (And this wasn't a situation where I missed the start of an interaction and didn't have that context) Luckily he didn't say anything to me specifically, possibly because I initially had my fawn response of putting my head down and trying to make myself smaller as I browsed. But then he started barking at other people, including women. And his tone and snappiness was so repellant to hear that I left the store as fast as I could. It just completely ruined the shopping experience and made me feel very unsafe. I can't imagine how the other customers must have felt and I hope their day got better after that visit. Its possible it could be a different experience when other people are on shift but I'd be very hesitant to try it again, unfortunately. And judging by past reviews I'm seeing, this isn't an isolated "just a bad day" kind of incident. I do not understand how yelling and judgy looks are ever necessary or acceptable, whether it comes from customers, employees, or employers. Why not choose kindness and gentleness?
