Extremely rude customer service from the younger guy here at Stuff. I understand that your business may not be doing well or your items aren't selling, so you might push items onto your customers to buy, but this is not how you treat your customers. It's not a very good business practice to slam your items down onto the glass cabinet while you make snarky comments about how no one else in Portland wants to buy your cameras. Be patient with your customers and don't use your sarcastic remarks to push a customer to buy. The only thing it does is push them away! They have a large variety of "stuff" in their store. Lots of musical items and tons of video games items. They're not the best deal around but they do have some things that aren't super common. I recently purchased a gaming system from them for a fair price. I found a few games as well, although over priced I didn't have to deal with searching online for them. Everything tested fine and works well. They're not the friendliest people but I have a feeling they deal with a lot of sketchy people so I'm not shocked they're on the indifferent side. I was given the responsibility of helping a family friend liquidate various collections her husband had accumulated over the years. The people at "Stuff" have been amazing and have been more than fair in what they have offered for the items I've brought to them thus far. In fact, I recently left 5 boxes of camera equipment with them and asked them to call after they went through everything. I had given them a rough idea of an amount I was hoping for and they actually called me and offered me more than I suggested would be a fair price. How amazing is that?! To say I'm thankful would be an understatement. I highly recommend this store to anyone who had items they no longer need or want. As long as you are fair with them, they will be more than fair with you. To the people who have complained, I will remind them of this. They have a lot of overhead just like any business does. Between payroll, taxes, insurance and all the other expenses necessary to operate there's only have so much room left to negotiate. So don't go in there thinking you're going to get an eBay price when you're not the one paying the eBay seller fees, etc. If you want more money, fine just sell it yourself. Stuff is a cleaned-up, 21st century style pawn shop that specializes in musical instruments, computers, gaming systems, and the like. I would liken it more to a retail version of ebay than an actual dirty old pawn shop. I've purchased a few used games here for PS2 and am looking forward to heading back to see what they have in the Wii realm (now that I have one of those). The only downside is that they are super internet savvy, so you're not likely to find stuff here much cheaper than you would find it on the internet. They know good and well what everything in the store is worth or could be sold for online, so you're not going to get any crazy steals form them. That said, it's sometimes nicer not to have to pay S&H on those used video games you purchased online, and it's always good to inspect the merch before you buy. I brought in an ASUS eee netbook computer to sell. The guy looked up ebay auctions to determine its value. He offered me $35 based on the eBay selling price of $65 to $70. When I got home, I looked up the same auctions and noticed one was for a nonworking computer just for parts, for $65. Mine is in perfect condition. I didn't want to take $35 for it then changed my mind since I no longer use it and it will decline in value anyway. So he deleted my user account and tried to revert the computer to its factory condition... which didn't work, either because it only has a 32GB solid state drive or because the WIndows 8 files it came with aren't on there anymore (it has the free Windows 10 online update on it.) Instead of plugging in an external hard drive or just deleting the 3 or 4 programs I had on it, he said he can't buy it if he can't restore it. So he gave it back with the deleted user account. I went to Stuff yesterday for my first time, looking to sell my guitar. Because the place had gotten such good reviews, and because they seemed (according to their website) to genuinely want musical instruments, I went to give it a shot. I walked out of the store fighting both tears, and the urge to punch the men who worked there. First, the man who "helped" me, refused to speak to me anymore than strictly necessary, and he also refused to look at me. When he brought someone out to glance at the guitar, I tried to explain to him it wasn't a standard Squier, but a Fat Strat, which is a more expensive and better guitar. He wouldn't even acknowledge that I spoke to him. After ignoring my comments and refusing to speak to or look at me, he then offered me the most insulting price I could have imagined. I genuinely wonder if I were a man, if they would have treated me differently. I felt like the woman at the car shop who is taken advantage of by mechanics because she isn't familiar with the inner workings of an engine. Not only will I NEVER go back, but I will make sure that no one else that I know does either. read more

This is an awesome place to go if, like me, you're a part of the 99% that isn't making any money these days. I'm a musician, or at least someone who tries to pass himself off as one, and Stuff always has a good slection of guitars. Their guitar guy knows his stuff too, so the prices are all what they should be. I hate going into those pawn shops that can't tell a Mexican Stratocaster from an original, or maybe they can tell but they're hoping you can't. The main reason I keep coming back is the staff. It's a very intimate atmosphere, with every worker in clear view and ready to help by assessing the value of your item or helping you assess the value of what you want to purchase. They all know me by name, it seems, even though I can barely remember any of theirs. And the extent of every worker's knowledge is pretty remarkable, considering I'll ask about things ranging from classic videogames to the minor differences between HDTV models to smartphone capabilities to the varying specs of five completely separate laptops. The inventory changes all the time, and I'm surprised by what all I've purchased without initially looking for any of it. I'm also fairly often surprised by how much I get in cash for my items-- either I don't know the true value of what I'm trading, or they're being pretty generous. Their model of trading works well, since you don't have to wait on a "specialist" to come over or turn in your item for assessment over night; you just bring it to the counter, let them inspect it and research online pricing, then you get your cash. It's pretty simple. Plus, when you aren't getting what you'd hoped, they always have a clear and articulated reason why; I've been to other businesses that simply shrug and tell me take it or leave it. I appreciate that sort of knowledge and personable service in a pawn shop. You should definitely stop by sometime, if for no other reason than to see what they have. I love this place, even the motto is funny "nothing you need, everything you want." It's the best place to buy movies for cheap, but they sell so much more. Instruments, subwoofers and amps, computers, video games, gaming systems, electronics, guns, jewelry and more! They don't sell clothes or furniture, though.
