Dr. Stephen Flitman is an incredible neurologist. I've been seeing him for many years, and he's one of those rare doctors who truly listens and takes his time with every patient. He doesn't rush through appointments, and he always explains things clearly and patiently. He's the one who correctly diagnosed my spinal issues after others missed it, and his referral to a skilled surgeon made all the difference. I honestly don't know where I'd be without his expertise and care. Dr. Flitman regularly earns Top Doctor awards -- and it's easy to see why. His office in Central Phoenix is convenient and well-run, and his staff reflects his professionalism and kindness. We presented health insurance for the 1st visit and because insurance doesn't cover all and ends up being more expensive for us using the insurance and is cheaper to pay cash, we requested to pay cash for the 2nd visit. Office Manager refused to let us pay cash, she said that it will have to be bill to the insurance and we couldn't pay cash, I didn't wanted to argue since we really needed an answer from the doctor, but because of the DISHONESTY of the Office Manager or Doctor who knows. We are not going back. We started to look for an honest place to seek treatment. Also, if they send you to get MRI is cheaper to pay cash for the MRI. SimonMed: Regular MRI and with Contrast, both $445 cash. With Insurance $1,000 Spectroscopy MRI $370 cash. With Insurance about $800. Copay for all 3 MRIs $800 If you pay out of pocket for all 3 is $370+$445= $815 Dr. Flitman Stephen cash consult is $135 to $260 Dr. Flitman Stephen using insurance is $280 they charge the insurance plus $100 they charge you, so they charge $380 vs $135 to $260 In our case the insurance only cover $180 and is charging us $100 more. read more

Dr. Flitman is the neurologist I have been looking for for years. He is friendly and funny, was on Phoenix Magazine's 2007 best neurologists list, and is thorough, polite, and positive. Never in my life have a received a written report of our discussion and the doctor's remarks as soon as my appointment was finished- a thing I greatly appreciate for my own records. Naturally, he was typing as we spoke, but that didn't bother me. He is also not afraid to try new things without taking unnecessary risks with his patients' health. Some neurologists are too old-fashioned and tentative for my taste. Dr. Flitman is an active researcher, and I am thrilled that I will be soon participating in a clinical study for the kind of medication that MS patients have been waiting decades for. He has trained at and still is associated with Barrow's, is the founder and director of his own practice (21st Century Neurology), and is also an Assistant Professor of Neurology at U of A. I had a fantastic first visit with Dr. Flitman today and I look forward to working with him for a long time to come. Dr. Flitman is my most trusted of all specialists, she. at the time was limited on specialists, and never gave it much thought, except then I believed most were the same. A huge misinformed patient as I had to learn from a grossly negligent specialist, Oncologist, that i chose because of family advice and new outcome based research published the day of my first appt. after diagnosed with small cell lung cancer. The oncologist was well known in the Cancer community. Due to size a d to staging is often based on size. The size was an analogy of a large grapefruit. Biopsy measurements were 6.5 cm X 6.0 cm.. long story short, he is the most trusted and credentials beyond compare. he is so smart and listens, what many doctors should do as we're their continuing education, ad well, the expert of ourselves. be you own advocate. Dr. Flitman treats you like a smart patient, know your symptoms, and pair together to find correct course of action. he respects you! I am expert in evaluating doctors. those who don't care and are in for the tests they make lots money on. if these docs don't listen and think they know best...run..or fire them.I've fired many and Dr.. Dr. Flitman - Let's just get the bad out there. He's NEVER ON TIME. I've been seeing him for 4 years and I have a way around this. I call 30 minutes prior to my appointment and ASK the staff how late is he. They are knowledgeable enough to know to answer and if not I ask to talk to the office manager who definitely does know if you press and say you're running a little late. So, go out and get a few errands done before seeing Dr. Flitman. You'll feel much better. As for him? Brilliant and kind, a little sense of humor that most doctors have lost these days. He will work with you to get the problem fixed. He's not waving a magic wand. I found that out right quick as there were no easy fixes. My appointment was for 20 minutes. He took 40 (which is why he's always late) and explained that there are 30 drugs that can be used for my problem. If I'm willing, he's willing to go through every one of them with me to find the right one for me to take care of my problem. Guess what? 5th choice with a few dose changes and I'm almost cured. I'm down to very little of the drug. We both expect and I hope that I can come off of it soon and be really cured. I don't think any other doctor would take the time to go through 5 drugs, the side effects I didn't like with each of the prior 4, change dosages to try and compensate, and then we come up with the 5th drug and I was feeling pretty poorly but this one clicked with my body. I'm so happy. I hope he keeps taking my insurance but if not? I will pay cash to go see him when I need to. He's worth it considering I go out to eat and its just as expensive for a dinner for 2. My health is important. I can see him twice a year. read more

I've been seeing Dr. Flitman for years. This man seemed to listen, care and help me through my migraine and virtago problems. When I came to him years ago, I had been seeing another neurologist that only wanted to treat me like a guinea pig and test me for everything on under the sun. He was able to tell me right away what was wrong and began treatment. After being diagnosed as cured from complex migraines, I still needed help with virtago, the headaches had been causing it to be really bad. At first he thought i was having seizures and i needed to go to get a some test to see if that was occuring. I disagreed with this diagnoses and realized the problem was i was having major panic attacks and anxiety as well, because after mediating the attacks and anxiety went away. Then he told me that i should get another MRI just make sure everything in my brain was still okay. I was okay with this and he referred me to Simon Med. I was pretty sure that Simon Med wasn't under my insurance, but since i wasn't totally sure, i scheduled an appointment. Was all ready to go and then they called me and told me it would be $700 out of pocket. I was like for what? A MRI, um, no! I told Dr. Flitman that i just bought a house and was there some where cheaper to go that could do a MRi that wasn't as expensive. He said he really liked their pictures, they are high quality pictures. I said I recently had a xray done for my knee, at AZ Radio Tech and they are fairly cheap and have a MRI machine, can i go there. He said yes, but never sent them a request to do a MRI. Plus i didn't have the money to go there because it was anywhere between 150 to 300 out of pocket, from what the place told me. Way better than where he was trying to send me, so i told him i would go get it done as soon as it was convenient or if i experienced worse headaches, virago or anything else where i thought it could be urgent. He said he understood and made me a follow up appointment in April. Monday March 26 his assistant, nurse Nancy called me and said Dr. Flitman refused to see me at all because i hadn't gone to get my MRI done. When i told her what our conversation was last time she got very argumentative and said it's not safe and he refuses to treat you. I could understand if the Dr. didn't want to see me until i got the MRI done. but to just drop me all together is retarded and that's not safe. Then this morning Simon Med calls me and says Dr. Flitman sent a request to get a MRI done. I told them that Dr. Flitman dropped me as a patient and also Simon Med is not covered under my insurance so remove my name from their database. I've talked to my insurance company and they confirmed that they were charging that much because they aren't in network and that MRI is only $100. So, I've decided that i'm getting a referral from my PCP to a different neurologist, because Dr. Flitman didn't want to hear me out that Simon Med wasn't covered, plus he just drops patients just because they can't get testing done right when he wants? And he drops me before the Radiology people call? What kind of professionalism is that? He may seem nice He may seem like he wants to help He may take his time with you and explain things to you But he DOES NOT listen. I will not go back and i will not refer anyone else to him either. read more

Dr. Flitman began the appt. by speaking (pushing?) of some medication which could potentially leave me brain dead. I have MS and have been taking the same medication for over 10 years, he knew this. I told him that I occasionally needed pills for pain, he could not help me with this as my neurologist. This is the1st time I've been brought to tears after an appt. Not much done to help me deal with the here and now. No bed side manner. I now have a new neurologist that I am very happy with. Months later, I begin receiving phone calls from Dr Flitman's office. The receptionist refused to accept that I was not answering her calls, so she lied (she said I had an upcoming appt.) to get my mom to get me on the phone. Maybe they are overworked in that office. I've been seeing Dr. Flitman for quite a few years. He's GREAT! Admittedly he runs late so I'm prepared and bring things to do but when its my turn, he doesn't limit me to 25 minutes and when I get an appointment with him, its with him. Not a medical assistant or a nurse practitioner. I've read the 2 other reviews and I agree with both in different ways. I walk out with a printed/written record of my visit w/Dr. Flitman so when I get home I put it in my file. I have these for my personal use but there have been times that I've called the office and needed my records sent (not to my insurance but to my other doctor) out and when I got to my other doctor they claimed they hadn't received them. When I called Dr. Flitman's office to find out what happened, I was told they had faxed my records, gave me a time/date confirmation so I'm left with wondering just who's office is in disarray. Since I've had other issues with the other doctor's office I'm inclined to believe Dr. Flitman's office did send the records. The office staff has at times not known an answer to my question but they do call me back or Dr. Flitman calls me himself with the answer. I had Polio when I was three and had done OK until last year. Dr. Flitman has provided great medical service and consulted with other neurologists that specialize in post polio syndrome. He even called the head of the lab when my blood test came back with conflicting results. Highly recommend him for any one that has had polio. read more

I've been going to Dr. Flitman for over 4 years and I have NOT seen any major improvement... what bothers me is that I'm the one suggesting on obvious things that might be affecting my constant migraines, like hormone levels, unrestful sleep, alternative medications etc.... although it is nice to have all of our conversation typed as we speak, sometimes I would like more thinking and less typing.... this office is ran in a military manner and i rarely see a smile or a friendly face ever. Now I'm out of anti-depressants which he put me on for my migraine headache and since it's been too long since I've seen him he will not prescribe ANY more medication until he sees me.... in 3 weeks. Antidepressants cause withdrawal symptoms when you quit.... So what should I do??? I asked, go to an emergency care clinic. Nice, nice job Dr. I'll let you know how my withdrawal week went when I see you in 3 weeks. read more

It has been many years since I've seen Dr. Flitman. He was one of my late husband's doctors. And I might say the best of the best! My husband reached a point where Dr. Flitman didn't want me driving with him. So Dr. Flitman drove to him! And he didn't charge me to do so! He returned calls to me, and would talk to me for an hour at a time. He would explain things so that I could understand what was going on. When he diagnosed my husband he sat down with us and told us what was going on so that we coudl make decisions about what to do with our life. My husband was able to make choices ahead of time so that I would not have to make decisions later on that would be difficult for me at an already difficult time. He was up front and honest with us. He didn't sugar coat anything. But he did it in a nice way. I could talk to him about anything. If I still lived in the Phoenix area I would sure use him again if I needed him, and would drive to him if I could. read more
