I have been treated by barrow brain and spine since Oct 2023 or a year and a half. The facility is exceptionally clean and radiates a feeling of care. For such a large facility this is exceptional. The staff whether at the front desks or in the halls always seem to have a moment to help. My Doctor is Dr Turner whom has performed two significant spinal surgeries on me with his staff. I cannot recommend him enough. I hope I'm done but I'd ask for him again. read more

Ok, here goes: My surgeon, Dr. Kakarla, is amazing. Very competent and has helped me (I'm declining to say what surgeries I've had) tremendously. I cannot speak highly enough about him. However, (and this is a very big deal to me) I want others to know before agreeing to surgery about Barrow's philosophy on pain control. I have had two surgeries with Dr. K. within less than a year. The second one is known to be one of the most painful surgeries one can have, which indeed it was. Yet, I was given a prescription for only a minimum amount of pain meds when discharged from St. Joseph's. Not even close to enough. Here's the issue that I want to caution others about. Barrow *WILL NOT* refill pain medication. In excrutiating pain a week out from surgery, I had to reach out to my primary care doc's office, speak with very kind people (Honor Health) do a virtual appointment with my pcp, speak with another very kind nurse and have my spouse go get the meds from the pharmacy. My pcp was stunned that I was sent home with such a limited supply of pain meds and that they *WILL NOT* refill medication. Had I not had a primary care doc at all or one that did not understand this was an absolutely legitimate request, according to Barrow, I would have had to go to a local ER, pay a $500 copay (in my case) just to walk in the door, then get whatever additional bill for seeing a physician all to get a $10 prescription. Upon calling Barrow to ask about the severe pain I was in, Dr K's resident told me the pain I was experiencing (an 8 on the pain rating scale) was expected and that I could need narcotic pain medication for 3 to 4 weeks. Lack of post-surgical pain support is a deal breaker situation for me and I want to make sure others are aware of this before signing that consent for surgery form. read more

I was really worried about a cyst in my brain. It didn't need an operation, but I really wanted to know why. I was extremely worked up. The front desk staff was super friendly and had a strong air of competence. The clinician, Thomas, was handsome, friendly, and beyond competent. No question was beneath him. We knew he was rushed, but he didn't rush us at all. We knew we were talking to an expert. How comforting and assuring! My family is so grateful for Thomas today! And just in time for the holidays. I'd recommend this clinic to absolutely anyone. If you can get a referral to these people, you definitely should. read more

Dr. Albuquerque did an amazing job with my father. Everything ran like a well oiled machine and he was very well taken care of. The st. Joseph's side of it was slow slow and not the best but the nurses were good. I highly recommend Barrow Brain and spine. My dad's procedure was done in st. Joseph's and he had another issue come up that not Brian and spine and st Joseph's took care of that part and it was not very efficient. The facility is very nice as well. I chose Barrow at St Joe's thinking that they could help me with back pain and weakness in legs. The team misdiagnosed me with an autoimmune disease and kept me six days treating me for something that I didn't have. I was then discharged and told to go to physical therapy and everything would be fine. After a month things got much worse so back I go. Now they find a malformation on my spine. I was never shown any imaging but was taken to surgery where Dr. Lawton and his students operated on me. Long story short, today I can hardly walk or stand and the entire lower half of my body feels like it's on fire. I can't feel my legs or feet and the pain is excruciating. I spend my day in a wheelchair. Extremely disappointed with these people. read more

staff = 5 stars, everyone has been very nice and helpful billing = 0 stars. They recently changed their billing system and it's been a nightmare. I'm getting bills for things I've already paid last year. The office tells me I have a zero balance. Their website shows a zero balance. I spoke to someone in May who confirmed I have a zero balance and said to ignore the bills. Yet, I am now receiving FINAL notice statements saying I owe. It is now IMPOSSIBLE to reach anyone in billing. I have left just about daily voice mails for 3 weeks and can't get anyone to call me back. If I pay this it would take me years to get it reimbursed so go ahead and send me to collections for something I don't owe. This is fraud! read more

I should have written this review a few months ago - but better late than never, right? I had minimally invasive surgery here as an outpatient back in June. I can't say enough good things about the way I was treated by the employees and the outstanding care and surgery I received. Dr. Laura Snyder was my surgeon who performed the surgery on my L5-S1. She removed a bone spur that had caused me to experience paralysis in my left foot and leg. Throughout the initial consultation to the final follow-up appointments, I received 5-Star quality care and attention. The surgery was a success, and after a few weeks of physical therapy, I had feeling and strength back again. Now a few months gone by, I'm enjoying all the physical activities I've always loved, especially hiking and motorcycling. I am writing this to express my profound disappointment, frustration, and concern regarding the substandard care and lack of accountability demonstrated by the office of Dr. Sanai. The recent experience my wife had with your facility has left us shocked, appalled, and deeply troubled. My wife reached out to your office seeking medical attention. She was in excruciating pain and requested to be seen or, at the very least, have a scan done to investigate the root cause of her suffering. which we felt was due to her medical issue that your office handles. Shockingly, instead of addressing her legitimate complaint, a nurse dismissively concluded that her pain was merely a result of a pulled muscle. This reckless misdiagnosis and disregard for her well-being are both unacceptable and dangerous. Furthermore, we found out later that Dr. Sanai himself was only made aware of the situation after I contacted one of his partners in the practice. For ten days, we struggled to find answers and relief while my wife's pain persisted. Finally, after seeing two other doctors, the severity of her condition could no longer be ignored, and we ended up in the ER, in which we found the issue we suspected ten days earlier was the problem and she needed emergency surgery. She could have easily gone to sleep and not woken up due to the delayed diagnosis. The gravity of this situation cannot be overstated, and it is truly distressing to consider the consequences that could have unfolded. To exacerbate matters, when we sought to follow up with your office to address the glaring shortcomings in her care, we were met with a response that was both callous and illogical. Your risk management representative brazenly shifted blame onto us, suggesting that we should have sought medical attention elsewhere. Such an absurd statement is deeply troubling, as it fails to acknowledge the fundamental truth that Barrow Brain & Spine is the very office entrusted with treating her specific medical problem. What we expected, and what any responsible and accountable medical institution would provide, is a genuine effort to understand the shortcomings in your system, offer an apology, and provide reassurance that corrective measures will be taken to prevent such a grave error from occurring again. Instead, we have been met with an unwillingness to accept any responsibility, and a complete lack of acknowledgment regarding the grave danger to which my wife was needlessly exposed. It is disconcerting that a medical establishment of your stature and reputation would exhibit such an astonishing lack of empathy, professionalism, and commitment to patient safety. As patients, we place our trust and, indeed, our lives in your hands, expecting the highest standard of care. Yet, the reality of our experience has left us feeling betrayed and disillusioned. Had high hopes. It has been a non stop nightmare. Phone people rude and condescending when they bother to answer. Only one scheduler per provider. I have not felt like one person working at this place cared about me in any capacity. Gave wrong referral for images. Asked to correct, they SCRATCHED IT OUT. High level professional place and they don't even do their own images. Completely hateful if you ask for anything to be explained or repeated. I no longer feel comfortable trusting them with my spine injury, pretty sure if they screw up the shots they won't care. Really really bad experience. read more

I went to Dr lees office almost 10 months ago. I went for a simple 10 minute surgery consultation which i quickly decided not to go with Dr Lee and his office. Call it a gut feeling. The front checked my insurance and charged me the $50.00 dollars for the copay per the insurance plan we have which is the highest plan you can get. Now 10 months later i get a bill for $675.00 minus the 50 dollar copay. I called their office and they said Dr Lee wasn't in my group and wasnt covered. I said thats BS because my Dr Who referred me to Dr Lee and that SAME Dr that referred me to Dr Lee literally just got surgery from Dr Lee because he is in fact in out group. Let me repeat that. My Dr just got a surgery from Dr Lee And My Dr has the same exact coverage as I do because my wife is her colleague and they checked and its the exact same plan. My wife is a provider along side my Dr that referred me to Dr Lee 10 months ago, also she my wife used to refer her patients to Dr Lee for some years now but not anymore. They will try and rip you off and im so glad i didnt go with Dr Lee for my surgery because my Dr who referred me who just got her neck surgery with Dr Lee because he is in our group, has had nothing but complications. Very little post care support... No true rehab offered, although their beautiful website says otherwise. The emergency room at St Joe's is horrific. Care on other floors is very mediocre at best. Don't take your glioblastoma loved one here. Duke, MD Anderson in Houston are better choices. read more

We have been going to Barrows for many years, first my father, was cared for by Dr. Porter, when he had a broken neck at 80 yrs old, about 15 years ago. Then I had a back surgery, with Dr. Porter. Next came my husband , who had a neck surgery with Dr. Porter, and the 2 more back surgeries. Now after 10 years my hisband is about to have his 4th surgery with Dr Porter. Hes amazing !! Husband saw Dr. Lee once and they confirmed they were in network with our insurance. We were charge $4700 for a cheap back brace that doesn't do anything and our insurance said that Dr. Lee is not in network. Husband had met his deductable so now Barrow wants us to pay over $3500 for our OOP not in network charge for the back brace. We have called the office numerous times, sent messages and even wrote the President of Barrow. Not one person will respond. What a joke! Healthcare has gone down the hill big time and Barrow Spine SUCKS! Will be filing a report with the medical board soon. read more

Had a little trouble initially setting up portal, but once I did, I was able to fill out the paperwork before arriving at the office. Highly recommend that you do this. Office was clean, well laid out, and staff was friendly. They had a room set up where your doctor could discuss your x-rays and MRIs with you. Dr Tumialin was impressive, direct, and addressed my concerns about previous episodes of a pinched nerve in my neck and how to handle that in the future. He ordered five x-rays to be added to the MRI of my neck and will follow up in a year. Great experience! read more

Initial consult was handled smoothly. Perhaps because a Barrow's doctor (in Chandler) was my initial contact with Barrow's, the check-in with this new doctor (at St Joe's) was quick. Brought into a room relatively quickly. Had to wait a bit for Dr Sanai, but when he showed-up he was calm and patient, and did not appear to be in a hurry. He laid out the situation, covered our questions, and we left with a definitive plan. Now he just needs to save my life. If he does I'll increase my stars.
