I should have read the reviews of new ownership before purchasing. I saw dave Portnoy do a review of Stellas giving it a pretty great rating; it was from a while back about a year or so. Saw the restaurant has been around for many decades, saw some reddit reviews saying it was an amazing pizza. However I did not see the information it was under new ownership since the start of 2025. Wish I had We bought two pizzas. a Cheese and a Chicken parm. To say there was no flavor is not an understatement. The pizzas are very thin which is fine but little sauce, The sauce itself has almost no flavor, its bare bones basic, we had to throw on oregano at the house to taste anything. Cheese is very underwhelming. I dont think we will be back for this alone. The chicken parm was just a barebones basic parm cut up and throw ontop the pizza... again its okay but underwhelming, parm sauce and cheese should also have more ingredients added to it as they are just so mediocre. We had fried dough bites and those were pretty good at least. you get quite a bit for 4 bucks. They were a little chewy however,.. but cant complain on these otherwise. Pizza came luke warm, not sure if they use a pizza warmer or not upon delivery. Buying delivery from their website had a nice app telling us where the driver was but not sure if its a doordash or some other 3rd party. While the pizza was big, it was thin and had no flavor to it and I mean no flavor, ive never had a pizza that was underwhelmingly bland before, I had absolutely no idea pizza could be like this. Somehow they found the mark for the most tasteless pizza on the market...i cant emphasize this enough. but if that doesnt bother you the pizza XL is at least 16 dollars for a Cheese. I really wish it was as good as past reviews with the last owners. but i cant recommend this place. Been eating pizza for 45 years and this was not the worst, its just nowhere near even basic, its in a category all its own, like a pizza in limbo waiting for flavor, a pizza dough with sticks and leaves ontop would have more flavor... Tasty crispy curly fries and delicious turkey subs! Owners are helpful (and busy). Nicely situated on the main Watertown road plenty of on street parking. A bit of a hole in the wall, but you can see the pizza oven and them working over it, which is pretty neat. read more

3 strikes you're out.... looking at the other recent reviews on here I'm not alone. Had a few incidents over the past 6 months - 1 year and I'm so happy this place is crossed off my list. No point in litigating everything - but after one too many screwed up phone orders, rude employees, being harassed for payment?? after paying, and then the food quality and most importantly food preparation which has nosedived. Last straw was when the owner/manager and his joyless crew discussed in front of me what they should do with old pizzas someone never picked up. I didn't realize what was happening at the time, or that I needed to open box, have a thermometer, ask everyone - just ordered 20 minutes before to pick up - thought it would be fresh. Got home, opened, they gave me an old dried out cold one. It sucked almost as much as that guy and his crew. Shame on you - you can no longer can use the title "pizza man" Please take your incompetent, rude, crew along with for your new venture which will hopefully be far away from food and people. read more

Tried pizza here for the first time recently. The place has a very no-frills, get-in-and-get-out kind of vibe--the staff weren't the friendliest and mostly just stood there with straight faces, which adds to that quick, transactional feel. That said, the pizza was great--thin, crispy, nicely charred, and came out fast. Definitely more of a grab-your-food-and-leave. read more

He made our sandwiches with no gloves on... and picked up the phone right before. That's really gross. He made another customer's pizzas before he even started our food even though we were ordered way before them. Real chummy with a couple of regulars who were eating yet completely cold and aloof to us new customers. The meatballs and sauce on my sub had a weird taste and my mother felt sick after. I wish I hadn't tipped after being treated so disrespectfully from the staff and being given poor quality food made without regard for cleanliness whatsoever. Don't eat here. read more

If you follow me you'll know that I stick strictly to reviews of old school joints and their MEATBALL GRINDER (aka Sub) game. Not all meatball subs are equal! And I'm always in search of that perfect sandwich. Stella's - to my shock - fell short. Their meatballs are not homemade!!! Why??? I was quite surprised given the old school feel of the place - it looks right out of the old days with the wooden booths and pizza ovens behind the counter. Why they don't use a homemade meatball is a mystery to me, because they has a very friendly and welcoming vibe and offered great customer service. The sub was tasty, with a very high quality marinara and just the right amount of toast on the roll and a good melt on the cheese. It was wrapped well and not too messy to eat. All pluses, but it fell short in term of the actual meatball, that tasted right out of the freezer section from Stop And Shop. While I waited, I got a slice and I think it suffered from that slow heat lamp death. The fresh pies going out the door looked ten times better then the reheated one I got. I might not be back from their grinder ... but I'd definitely revisit this joint to chat with their friendly owner, soak up the old school vibes and pick up a fresh and hopefully amazing pizza pie! Let's me start this by saying I love anchovies on pizza . That being said I decided to try Stella's pizza for delivery since they offered it. The pizza itself wasn't bad but the sour taste of whatever type anchovies they placed on it ruined the whole pizza. Expecting the saltiness of an anchovy I experienced more of a vinegar taste. Since it tasted so bad I ended throwing out the large pizza. Stella's needs to check what they put on their pizza's for quality and freshness! read more

I wrote a 5 star review of this place back in January of 2023. The business has since been sold, and BOY does it show! What was once a delicious, paper-thin, crunchy crust is now floppy and tasteless. I have been back 3 times under the new ownership just to be sure I didn't just happen in on a bad day. I'm sorry to report that the once-great Stella's is no more. If you're looking for a great pizza in the Watertown/Belmont area, there's still Belmont Pizza. Take out Service was cheerful but the veggie pizza was overloaded with mushrooms which was not well recievef on the home front.

We ordered a large cheese pizza and a large fries. We got it delivered, via Door dash, and everything was cold. Not warm, cold. We met the delivery guy at the door so it was not as if it had been on our door step cooling at all. We had to reheat everything which resulted in very dry fries which were close to inedible. The size of the portion of fries was good, pity we ended up throwing most of them in the trash. The pizza was nice and thin and would have been good if it was at least warm on arrival. read more

Apparently this passes as a meatball pizza People look at the pic, all the brown and black sports are just cooked cheese, the meatballs are one tiny piece per slice. Just ordered a thick dough large ex cheese and meatball. Got the extra cheese, barley any meatball. My wife called and the girl that answered basically said that's how we do it. So I called and asked to speak with the manager, I got the owner instead. I went on to tell him a loud the barley any meatball and he said they use 4 meatballs and crumble them up, I said I can send u a pic and you can see that it barley makes one. Mike said you come over I'll make a new one and show you how me make it (in a very condescending tone) I said how long and he just hung up. After two years of almost weekly orders we are done. Ordered a pepperoni pizza recently and it was nothing like it used to be, before the business was sold around the fall of 2023. Pizza used to be amazing, the best pizza in the area / rivaled anything I've had in NYC or Boston. The pepperoni and the cheese were clearly of inferior quality (Costco or BJs Wholesale?). I was sick to my stomach after only a couple of slices and had to throw the rest of it out, both a first for me in my 10+ years of ordering from Stella's. The new owners seemed nice (cordial on the phone and in person) and I want them to succeed, but if they don't go back to the old pizza recipe, which I assume they purchased along with the business, I don't think they're going to be in business much longer. Old Owners: I don't know why you didn't sell or couldn't have sold the business to Mike, your friendly and hard-working former employee, who I assume wouldn't have changed what had been working so well for so many years, but you didn't and here we are. I was hesitant to go back after reading some of the reviews under new ownership, but I was not disappointed. We always get the extra large crispy, and the crust was just that: crispy and thin, which is how I like it. The toppings were generous, maybe a bit too much cheese on our spinach & bacon half, which made the slice harder to handle and a little heavy, but otherwise, the pizza was delicious. My husband and I will definitely be going back. The new owners/employees were friendly, and our pizza was ready in a flash. read more

Just had the worst meatball sub of my life at this place. First, it came on a paper plate which would have been fine except it had sauce spilled and smeared all over it. Not Appetising. Then, the meatballs were all mini cocktail size, falling out of the sandwhich, and they clearly came out of a big frozen bag. The cheese wasn't melted and there wasn't much of it. The sauce was barely room temperature and tasted like it was out of a can. Only the bread was decent. To top it off the guy who made it asked me how everything was, I told him 'really not very good'. He had nothing to say other than a big smiley 'well, you ate it pretty fast!' Not at all curious as to why his sandwhich was so disappointing to his bummed out customer. We stopped by this little pizza joint the other night, with very low expectations. They have a generic menu, a generic looking shop. But, the pizza is INCREDIBLE!!! How can I describe this style? They have a cracker-thin crust, which holds up the toppings very well. A lot of places with thinner crusts usually start getting soggy when you put more toppings on it, but not this pizza! The base of the pizza, as mentioned, is cracker thin, but it's also soft and fold-able too. The actual edge crust comes out slightly burnt and extra crispy. Their buffalo chicken (buff chick) is delicious and has actual chunks of blue cheese (gorgonzola?) running through it. I'm not even a fan of blue cheese, but I loved this one. I'll give Stella's 5 stars because they are excellent at what they do. Been eating pizza there for decades. What's really too bad is that a mediocre employee can make a long standing business look bad. The delivery driver shaking my soda because HE forgot it and had to come back with it was of bad taste. From now on if the incompetency of a driver means I have to go through a sour moment then I'm going to have to order in and go pick it up myself. Ordered a half pepperoni and half meatball and ricotta large pizza tonight, well done. Pepperoni has been good in the past but I saw the the meatball and ricotta at Frank Pepe's web site and thought it would be better to order from a homegrown local place. I don't know what happened to Stella's but there was no pepperoni on one side and almost no meatball on the other. Plenty of ricotta. And it was underdone if anything. Went in to show them and the owner was nice but one guy laughed and scoffed at there being no pepperoni, said it was underneath... hasn't been for me in the past. We didn't even get to there being very little meatball and it that it was underdone. Just left, not worth fighting over. Frank Pepe's and other places in Watertown will get my business from now on. read more

We had a gift certificate so we went to Stella's for the first time. It was delicious and the service was great. We got a half cheese, half no cheese with sausage and onion. The sauce is delicious and everything was cooked perfectly. I highly recommend Stella's pizza! read more

I love Stella's! It's just reliable. But I am still stunned my delivery last night. The one star has nothing to do with the food. It's the delivery person. I ordered online. Got large pepperoni pizza, chicken parm calzone, meatball sub and mozzarella sticks. When the driver showed up he rang my doorbell incessantly until I came downstairs. I said "who is it" and he opened my front door and literally started walking into my house. I said "please back up. And put the order on my porch as I requested ". He did and he was wearing a mask but it was still startling and bizarre. I went upstairs into my house when he must have realized that he gave me the wrong pizza. Again. Ringing my doorbell off the hook and then again walking in without being invited. He started climbing my stairs and entered my home. I was not expecting this either and said "please go downstairs. I will leave the pizza you gave me and please leave my correct one on the porcch as requested The food was great but what the driver did was not ok. At all. I called the store and spoke to the owner. He was apologetic but tried to explain that the driver was overloaded with orders and was just in a rush to get the food there. Also that he was extremely hard of hearing Look. I get it that you want to be loyal to your long time employees. And times are hard. But this. On top of the lack of mask wearing in your store most of the time, I can't support you until you rectify your protocols and standards I'm not an alarmist but we are in a real live pandemic. The second best pizza joint in town. It's been consistent for years and years. Delivery can take a while because it's popular. Takeout is usually never more than 15/20 minutes. I do like their thinner style crust and their sauce and cheese is never lacking. Maybe the best buffalo chicken pizza in the area. If you got the munchies their dough babies(fried dough balls) have been a favorite for years. They also make a pretty good calzone, try the chicken parm calzone. It's tough shit they are closed Sundays as is their competition across the street. But everyone needs a day of rest. Good job read more

I really wanted to give this place a good review, considering their pizza is really good, however after the customer service I received tonight (6/13/2020) I don't know if I'll order again. I will say that overall I would recommend their food, but they get a thumbs down in the service department. I ordered my first pizza from Stella's last week, as I was attempting to support local food businesses at least a few times a month and their thin and crispy pizzas were highly regarded. I ordered one in the buffalo chicken and it was really good (see attached picture for the buff chicken). I decided to save my review for my next order, which was going to be tonight. I called at 830 (on their website and Google it says they're open till 11). I understand businesses have changed hours, but I had hoped the pizza place would be open until 9 (a lot of the other pizza places around them were open till after that). Before I got to order, someone answered the phone, said they were closed, and before they hung up, I could hear them saying to another employee: "yeah man, I'm just tired and want to go home". This made it seem to me they they were still open and perhaps closed at 9, but just didn't feel like making my order towards the end of the day. Although I haven't worked in the food industry before, I have worked in retail, and refusing to serve customers during business hours was a no no there and it seems like a no no here as well. It's hard and fast rules like these that bigger chains have that have earned them the trust from the public and lack thereof may unfortunately might speed up the demise of small local businesses. I would have understood if the business was actually closed but upon walking past, as I ordered pizza from across the street, there were still two employees hanging out inside. I won't be visiting anytime soon. It's a shame because the pizza is really good. read more
