Got off the Staten Island ferry and needed a quick bite and drink before heading back to manhattan. Decided to check this place out because we thought they had food. However, they only have bags of chips for sale for $2, but you can bring in your own food. Decent selection of beer and the bartender was friendly. A local was also at the bar and he was friendly and gave us some advice about places to eat nearby. (Enoteca Maria is a few stores up the street. It's the restaurant in the movie Nonna's with Vince Vaughn, but it's pretty hard to get a table there). This place is kind of small. Probably around 10 seats at the bar and about 5 tables. Place is also cash only, but there is an ATM by the front. If you want a quick drink, this dive bar will do. read more

A bit disappointed. We had taken a trip on the Staten Island Ferry and decided to spend some time here before heading back to Manhattan. We stumbled across this bar and it's light years away from the bars in Manhattan. Very much a local bar but we were made to feel somewhat welcome. I think this place was probably a cooler more original dive bar in the past. The clientele was unfriendly and uninteresting. A bunch of young people with no money asking people to buy them drinks. As a bit of dive bar connoisseur, thousands of check-ins and reviews, I really didn't know what to make of this place. The pub has the authentic pub feeling, but it's seen better days. The tables and some chair cushions are broken. The music played made us feel like we were being abducted by aliens. We ordered wings which were awful. The wings tasted ad if they came from a frozen supermarket bag. They served us the wings without napkins. Steiny's is a dive bar in a cute area on Staten Island. It's literally a 5 minute walk from the ferry. The natives are uber friendly & my first time there I got a drink on Neil. He's a regular at the watering hole. It's on a slight hill, but nothing tedious. Quaint with seating at the bar & table top lined with mirrors on the side, as well as old school circular seating in the front. The bartender is friendly & drinks are dive, but you really can't go wrong with alcohol. Rather you're having a beer or simple mixed drink you're good. Went here recently on a Friday night to pre-game before a show at the St.George theater next door. I really liked this place...cool dive atmosphere with a great internet jukebox. It was crowded but we still got seats at the bar. Ordered pierogis and mozzarella sticks both were good and pretty cheap. Drink prices were cheap. The owner was there and thanked us for coming which was a really cool touch I liked. The bartenders even bought back with the owner there which means Steinys knows how to run a real bar. Took the Staten Island ferry to Staten Island to pass by the Statue of Liberty. We decided to stay for lunch. This was a hard one. Not a lot of good options close enough to walk to the ferry station. I came across them because of yelp. No regrets. The place is small. It is a bar. They have a small but effective menu. I had a few kids with me and worried about taking them in - but it was excellent. The staff was so friendly. The food was decent. I had the onion soup and it was quite good. They have one table by the window that can seat more than 2 otherwise it's couples only (or sit at the bar). I like this place. So friendly. read more

Came here for a friend's going away party. She really enjoys Karaoke so I believe that's one of the main reasons why this establishment was chosen as well as how close it is to the Staten Island ferry. First and only bar on Staten Island! I was pleasantly surprised. Definitely a dive, and cash only. However it is what I consider cheap. My buddy and I were drinking Coors Light pints and they were $3 normal price, $2 for happy hour. The bartender was friendly and made conversation with us. She was about 40 I'd say and seemed to be an "islander." The crowd seemed, um, eclectic. Lots of interesting people, I'll put it that way, but everyone seemed nice and we chatted a bit with the gentleman seated next to us. We didn't eat but we did see they have food, which is good to know. Overall a good experience that rests almost completely on our bartender and the cheap beers. Side note: I struggle a bit with reviewing dive bars because really they're all 1 or 2 stars. However, most of what makes me like a bar is the people, and we had a nice time here. Bad business. I sat for 20 minutes with girlfriend on a slow night and was ignored the whole time. I finally found some courage to request a drink in the politest way possible, just because I thought it would be more awkward to walk out without ordering something after everyone else had already left. I also left a tip only because I felt similar anxiety due to not knowing what type of people would treat customers so poorly and I didn't want to offended anyone more than I did by simply walking in. It seemed like some locals were having a great time when I first arrived so maybe it was just me. The only time I come to St. George is when I have to either fight a parking ticket, am subpoena to jury duty, or need to handle some other city/government violation that I am usually guilty of. So I found myself in St. George, yet again, for undisclosed reasons. Having handled my business, I figured there was no better way to celebrate having nothing to do on a Friday at noon then by having a drink. I found Steiny's across the street, walked in and order a Guinness. Nice enough place I thought to myself. Not to small. Booth by the front window, a couple of tables, nice long bar, bathrooms downstairs. Cool place. The barmaid, sorry I don't like that term, the bartender girl was friendly and easy to converse with. Steiny's does serve food and the menu was larger than I would have expected from your typical pub. Although I did not eat, the food I saw being served looked tasty. After my next violation, whatever and whenever it may be, I'll be sure to stop back in at Steiny's. Possibly, this time, I'll get some food to go with my Guinness. read more

After taking the Staten Island Ferry across the way from Manhattan, a few friends and I (tourists) decided grab a drink on a Saturday morning "yes morning", so we walked up the hill to what looked like the Main Street. Steiny's seemed like they were just opening (I could be wrong). Anyway, there were a few people already there, seemed like everybody already knew each other. So five us took a seat at the bar and ordered our beers, the bartender was Michelle, she was nice and kept us entertained the hour we were there. I ended up doing three tequila shots and drinking a couple of beers, so I was in good shape before the clock hit noon:) We ordered a couple of plates of chicken wings to get some food in our system. We are first time visitors from Southern California to NY for St Patty's Day festivities, we took the ferry to check out Lady Liberty and saw Steiny's Pub flyer on the ferry so we decided to check it out. It was a quick one block walk to Steiny's. I wanted to find the owner to let him know that his flyer is what brought us to his pub. I gotta say, for the most part, a pub is a pub is a pub, but not at Steiny's, after meeting Jimmie the owner and his awesome wife, they made us feel like family, from the staff to the locals, we had a blast. jimmies wife and another staff member cooked and brought out free corned beef, cabbage and potatoes in celebration of St Patrick's day.
