I will admit we booked a "Vienna: Culinary Experience at Restaurant Stefanie" event via GetYourGuide, but we were very happy to get a tasting-style menu of Vienna classics. The promise of an explanation, history, or any other information about the dishes never occurred as promised but the food was well prepared and high-quality. The restaurant is very much part of the hotel, just off the lobby, and the room feels less formal/fancy than the service and staff represent, especially with a huge buffet-style portion in the back of the room. The Beef Consume was probably the weakest representation of this classic we had all trip - it was oily and lacked flavor. Fortunately, the rest of the meal made up for the stumble: the schnitzel was our favorite schnitzel of our travels through Bavaria and Austria - crispy, light, super thin, and flavorful. The breading was the smallest crumb size; it stayed on the meat and was light and crispy the entire time. The potato salad on the side was also one of the best we had, especially with the chunks of shallot to brighten things. The boiled beef had some of the most leek flavor of the versions I tried and the veggies on the side were cooked perfectly. Their version of the bread/potato stuffing was also the best of my trip. We also enjoyed the veal goulash, although the choice for veal as the meat, along with the large size of meat, resulted in it being a bit dry. The flavor of the sauce was excellent though. Our dessert trio was eaten at max belly fullness but was still delicious and meticulously prepared. The ability to try all of these classics in one tasting-style seating made for a fun and filling lunch. An American rating schnitzel in Vienna could be treading into dangerous waters but to me and my wife, this was by far the best schnitzel we had in Austria and Bavaria. read more
