It all started with my travel companion's need to visit a hospital for what appeared to be appendicitis. There isn't much open in Vienna on a Sunday around here, and by the time we got out of the hospital the first time to wait on blood tests, we were famished and looking for anything decent to eat. The restaurant was virtually empty when we entered, but the kitchen was open and we were seated quickly. There's a smoking and non-smoking section. They close the pocket doors to keep the smoking and non-smoking section separate, so we were virtually alone for most of dinner except when the server popped her head in.
This place is proof that mom and pop shops are universal, and generally wonderful. This place had the feeling of a diner/dive bar. Not only was the server super nice and put up with our broken German, the food was seriously amazing. The goulash and the veggie soup with pancake strips were amazing. I also highly enjoyed the Wien white wine. I'm not entirely sure what we ordered for our main course, but it was all delicious, comforting, and tasted like a home-cooked meal made by someone's grandma. All in all, we got out of there for around 30 euros and were extremely happy. read more
