Delicious eclectic food. We visited Pauli on a Sunday night and managed to get a table downstairs. Bottles of wine and spirits pepper the black walls of the downstairs dining area. House music played in the background of the restaurant for the duration of our meal. I ordered the Negroni Sour to drink and the tempura to eat. The Negroni Sour was on par with others that I have sampled. The tempura was beautifully presented and tasted exquisite, and I was almost disappointed that there was not more to eat. Overall, I had an exemplary time at Pauli and would highly recommend them for dinner in Vienna. read more

The service was excellent. The food was very good as well. And we were seated outside on a lovely evening so we liked the ambiance as well. We ordered the short rib, the sea bass, and the duck. Everything was delicious. The only negative would be that pthe tagliatelle under the short rib was just ok -- nothing special. But overall excellent. read more

The atmosphere here is very nice and quieter than some of the larger restaurants we visited. Service was a little on the slow side at times. Food was very good but also somewhat on the eclectic side, not the place for traditional Austrian food. We had an interesting appetizer, a chicken dish, a black rice and mussel dish, veal shank and duck breast. I had a very good dinner here while in town. I made a reservation online but they weren't too busy at all when I arrived. I guess I arrived too early for dinner time for locals but I was hungry after not eating lunch earlier. Decor inside is very clean. Most tables inside was hightop but they have standard height tables available on their patio. I wanted to drink local wine and server recommended a certain kind after I explain my wine preference. I liked it very much that I kept trying different Austrian wine for the remainder of my stay in Austria. Try their butter with bread. They serve with three different butter and my favorite was truffle. Rich aroma of truffle was so perfect, I don't normally eat that much butter and bread but I ended up eating all served. They have a prix fixe available at a reasonable cost. Since I really wanted to eat lamb, I just ordered the main dish only. Portion size was perfect. Not too big or too small. Oh the lamb was cooked perfectly, really enjoyed my dinner here. Staff speak excellent English and close to many touristy places. read more

A very nice experience close to the Vienna Marriot. The interior is elegant and the service exceptional. The menu is not large but everything on it is done well. My favorite part of the meal was the breadboard and two compound butters. Simple but delicious. I had the crispy piglet. It was decent and I had no trouble finishing it. Perhaps it could have been a little more aggressively seasoned - But nonetheless it was good. Companions have ether Weinerschnitzel and the short ribs. Both were very good. The Weinerschnitzel came with what we thought was a lingonberry compote but the waitress called cranberry. No matter - it was a wonderful complement to the dish. read more

We had a lovely visit to Paul on our first night in Vienna! The food was just delicious - and such a lovely, intimate environment. I would highly recommend for a quiet evening. I ordered the Wiener schnitzel - which was served with a very tasty Austrian potato dish, and the pumpkin soup (a seasonal item in the fall months). Both were delicious! We found the wait service to be very friendly and accommodating considering we do not speak German, and our waiter was very funny! The location is fairly close to the main downtown center of Vienna, so an easy walk if you are in the area. read more

One of the best meals I had in Vienna! The service/wait staff here is by far the best I experienced in a couple of weeks of vacation. The restaurant is well designed / decorated as well. The food was all pretty good. I had their special of the season which was an amazing pumpkin soup with prawns. For my main course a had a fall truffle risotto which is also a special for the season. It tasted great but the risotto should have cooked a little longer, it was slightly too al dente for my liking. For dessert I had an almond plum cake with a poppyseed icecream which was delicious as well! I would certainly return here if I visited Vienna once more. read more

We had reservations late in the evening but seems like there was plenty of tables available. Very quaint and intimate ambience, just that the AC was not strong enough (didnt help in the heatwave). We started with the mushroom salad and oxtail soup. The salad was spot on although we would have preferred less dressing on the salad. The oxtail soap was innovative, the soup alone was bland but when eaten with the meat bun (sorry not sure how to describe it) it brought out the overall flavor. For the mains we had the steak and piglet. Definitely recommend the piglet! Being from the states, we had better steak. read more

Far and away the best experience of our three week trip through Central Europe. We happened to be there during chanterelle season, and they figured in both the most amazing chanterelle cream soup and then a perfectly prepared veal chop with a perfect - and I mean perfect - chanterelle sauce. Others in our party of seven had the pork loin (loved it), the best Weiner Schnitzel we had (in many attempts) in Austria, and an amazing lamb chop special among others. The service was also a revelation for Europe. Attentive, present (without pressure), and kind, with thoughtful recommendations. Even the (not too expensive) Austrian cab the waiter recommended was fantastic. We were seated outside without a reservation on a beautiful evening, and treated like welcome regulars. While staying in Vienna, we had the pleasure of happening upon Paul and couldn't of been happier with our choice. We decided to order a few small plates. We had the beef tartare which came with airy and crispy homemade bread and butter. The tartare was good the bread was scrumptious. Our favorite was the deer and was very glad he offered to make an off menu tapas item of it for us. (If you wanted an entree instead of tapas, I would just order the deer.) We look forward to going back for desert as we were too full from the above selections. Excuse my memory, as I don't remember the exact names, but we also had the weiner schnitzel, the pork slices and the blood sausage ravioli. Everything tantalized our taste buds. The owner of Paul is well versed in wine and made a selection based on our palate preference which was spot on. Based on the positive reviews here, my sister-in-law and I -- visiting Vienna for the week -- decided to try Paul. We were not disappointed! But I'm not going to go into detail about the food: others have done that well. Let me talk about the service. Here's the scenario: two women arrive at a restaurant. They are not young. They are clean and neat, but casually dressed. They do not have reservations. What happens? They are seated promptly. Because they have had a substantial lunch (as is common in Vienna), they are not overly hungry and ask if they can share the 3-course menu. What happens? They are told that of course they can, and when the food arrives, it is beautifully presented, with separate plates for each. The food is delicious, the wine is lovely, the staff is charming. The night is memorable! One of the best meals I've ever had, made even better by impeccable service. read more

Our concierge recommended this restaurant as "modern" Viennese cuisine, and our guide today said that only good restaurants can make it in Vienna because the Viennese are very demanding. We visited 4 cities in Europe over 2 weeks and our dinner here was the best of our trip. Lovely restaurant, with excellent service and very nice food and wine. We had: Grilled lettuce heart, and goat cheese salads for appetizers. Entree's: Braised veal cheeks with mashed potatoes and glazed carrots, ravioli filled with cheese and "rocket salad". Made reservations for 2 on a Saturday night at 6:45. Warmly greeted by hostess & taken to our table upstairs right away. Liked the modern simple decor of the restaurant & was very excited to try their menu. Restaurant is on the smaller size although the second floor seems larger. Restaurant was almost packed only a few tables left but both reserved already. Saw people turned away. I had the raspberry mule drink which was very tasty & a great spin on a classic cocktail. I started with the parsnip soup & paid the extra to have the bacon & a scallop added. Good portion & very tasty. For my main I had the ravioli with pork & sauerkraut. That may have been a starter item but it was the perfect portion for me after having had the soup. So where the restaurant lost stars in this review was due to the service....or lack of shall I say. There was only the 1 server handling the whole of the upstairs portion of the restaurant, 1 busboy helping & even the hostess was running plates & drinks to people as well. This was a Saturday night so it's not like they weren't expecting to be busy and the restaurant was fully booked by reservations so again they should have know how many diners they would be serving. Unless someone phoned in sick for their shift & weren't replaced this should never happen in a restaurant of this caliber. Our water glasses went empty for over 20minutes, drinks ran dry, huge gap between starter & main meals & not one staff member came & checked on the drinks situation, or how the food tasted or to even up-sell us on dessert or after dinner drinks! We even struggled to make eye contact or get anyone's attention as the two fellows then took to using the stairs at the back to come & go instead of the ones right behind us & the bar. So frustrating!! We finally were able to get the waiter to our table & only due in part to the fact that we had started to put our jackets back on. When the server asked about coffee or tea we were so frustrated we just wanted to leave. We told him the service was crap but it didn't seem to phase him. So although the food was amazing I couldn't give Paul any more stars as a big part of dining in is the experience. And we had none of that. read more

We were in Vienna before the start of our river cruise and were able to get a last minute reservation at Paul. Our lucky evening. The place was packed and we sat downstairs at a table by the bar and was served by the owner. The menu is not extensive but there is something for everyone. The wine list is very nice. My wife had the Char and I had the lamb chops. We share a ravioli appetizer. After our dinner and wine; we had an Amaro and espresso. The food was fabulous and beautifully presented. Wine was perfect and the service (even though she is running around like crazy) was terrific. The owner is a beautiful and wonderful hostess. We loved it so much we went back after our cruise and enjoyed another fabulous meal. We will be going back as soon as we get back to Vienna - which I hope will be very soon. read more

Great food and great service, very nice ambiance; the only fault I could see is that filling vegetarian options were pretty sparse (hence the 4 stars). Entrees were in a higher price range than we expected from the Yelp page. I can't see dinner for 2 being less than $100 with only 1 entree and 1 glass of wine each. read more

This was within walking distance from our hotel and we had no reservation on a Saturday night. We were lucky to be seated anyway. The restaurant has ambience although we chose to dine outside. Bread and three different spread was quickly set on the table and out of those the bolognese spread was my favorite. The recommended starter; char sashimi with grated carrot was excellent: some sweet notes and a spicy bite at the end, plus the crispy skin was good. The truffle mushroom soup was great too, although I had hoped for more of a chanterelle soup. The main course char with risotto was full of good flavors and my husbands schnitzel was a fusion delight with a curry coconut light sauce that you could pour over yourself. The main courses did take a little longer time to arrive than expected and our neighbors. It didn't dampen our experience too much but so we decided not to order a dessert. Like so many places in Vienna, we literally stumbled upon this place, this time after a late classical concert at St Anna's church. My husband hadn't had a real dinner so we stopped here. Lovely staff who seemed pleased to have English speaking patrons (seemed to be all locals out for a nice dinner). I had the mushroom soup (wonderful- every cream soup in Austria has been delicious) and husband had a pasta asparagus and goat cheese special that he plate licked clean.
