While in Vienna we visited Gutenberg and had a fantastic experience! The outdoor seating area is lovely, providing a relaxed atmosphere that's perfect for enjoying a meal. The menu offers a great variety of options, catering to different tastes, and everything we tried was absolutely delicious. I highly recommend the Wiener Schnitzel - crispy, tender, and perfectly seasoned - and the Spareribs, which were flavorful and cooked to perfection. Came in right before dinner rush so didn't have to wait, which was a huge plus to get a seat where couple restaurants in the area had few hour wait. All the food was amazing. Sausage, kraut and cucumber salad were delicious. The apple strudel was warm and not too sweet - perfect. Patient staff. Extensive drink selection. We sat outside under a large tent. This is no small overhang and we were sheltered from a downpour. We sat it out, eating! I checked out their menu and had the fresh fish fillet in mind. The restaurant had both indoor and outdoor dining options. Waiters had poker faces. We stopped by here extremely hungry and tired after having toured the city center for most of the day. It was around 4:15pm and surprisingly a lot of the restaurants in the area had really long waits so we ended up here at Gutenberg. We sat outside in the patio seating and it was really nice to enjoy the fresh air and have views of the city center while dining. We ordered a veal schnitzel and a beef goulash along with a a milk-cream strudel for dessert. The food was very delicious and very filling (large portions). The dessert was very rich and creamy. Our total came out to €43 (for 2) which was pretty reasonable considering we had ordered drinks and desserts. Overall the food was great, but the service was a little slow. We ordered pork cordon bleu (came with fries) and veal schnitzel (came with potato salad) Our food came out in 10 minutes so that alone sums up what our dinner tasted like. We had one beer each and the bill came out to €44.00. The beer was good though :( read more

There's a review at the end, but a story first. We are drinking in the courtyard next door to this restaurant. We are really drunk on our 1st night in Vienna. My husband asks the guy running the drinking stand where the bathroom is. He's told to go right down the courtyard, and turn 180 degrees at the bicycle. Off the husband goes, returning moments later saying he went down the courtyard, saw Betty Page on the toilet in the window but never saw a bike. I need to go, set off, see Betty Page, keep walking out of courtyard, see a bike, turn 180 degrees and there's Restaurant Gutenberg. Oh, I think that's who's running the drink stand. I walk in, and ask the waiter "Wo ist die Vay Say?", he says "downstairs". I go down and use the bathroom. I go back to my friends, tell them I turned at the bike and found the toilet. well it turns out I turned at the wrong bike, and entered the WRONG restaurant to pee. ( The bike was actually INSIDE the restaurant in the courtyard.) So 2 thumbs up to the waiter for letting a drunk rain soaked American use the bathroom even when they weren't eating at the restaurant. Later in the trip: We had a very nice meal here with entertaining waiters. They had a good selection of Gruner Veitliner wine. I had the "fired chicken" which was basically a schnitzel. Decent bar type food. I got a chicken that was breaded and fried with French Fries and my husband got a rib special dish. Since we were already expecting bar type food it satisfied our hungry stomachs. The food came very soon after ordering. I was looking for a place to have lunch, and thought I would try the well known Figlmuller, but it was too crowded so I started looking around. Gutenberg is right nearby, and the menu posted outside looked like it had typically Austrian cuisine, so I gave it a try. It was a nice, pleasant place to sit for lunch and service was friendly and fast. I had roast pork, that was very moist and juicy and came with sauerkraut and some kind of potato pancake like item. The price was reasonable. The decor and ambience, though, was nothing special. There was some kind of Muzak playing that was a little annoying. It looked like they had a bar area and another dining room. I sat in the bar area and never went in the other room. We came here for dinner on a rainy day our first day in Vienna. Not wanting to search for a better location farther away we decided to give Gutenberg a try. It is obviously mainly a tourist restaurant as the menu was available in several languages. I settled on the burger since nothing else caught my attention. The burger was okay but could have been much better. The waiter wasn't the friendliest person but he was attentive. I met up with a friend who'd just had dinner but since I hadn't eaten I asked him if we could stop somewhere while he kept me company. We stopped here and I placed my order- a schnitzel dish & a glass of wine (would've probably made that 2+ glasses eventually but now we'll never know!) Well, low and behold to our surprise the waiter proceeds to tell us that this is a restaurant and if he's not going to order then we can't eat here. Ummmm what? My friend then asks me if I want him to order a drink or something just to appease this nasty waiter but to me that's not the point. Gutenberg has a surpirisingly good seasonal Austrian menu, I have come several years during chanterelle season and they always have several types of chanterelle dishes at very reasonable prices compared to what you would pay for the same quality in the US. Highly recommended! read more

I ordered Tafelspitz thinking as this was a local speciality made with beef and vegetables you couldnt do much wrong. it is served at the table in a saucepan which is a bit of a surprise but that is all part of the charm except the pan was half full of a watery tasteless concoction with a few slices of tasteless meat floating amidst some bits of tasteless vegetables. I didnt know what to say. My gut feeling was that the chef had diluted some stock and not bothered to cook any flavour into it. I fished out the meat and veg and ate it but wasnt sure whether the liquid was supposed to be tasty enough to eat/drink as soup but as it tasted a bit like washing up water I left it. I later had the same meal somewhere else just to see if it was equally bad but it had flavour and the stock was tasty. I paid a lot of money for this - over 20 euros I think. My partner had a Schnitzel for 14 euros which was a better deal. The waiter didnt seem too happy but was ok...if you go, avoid the Tafelspitz! read more
