If you are looking for a coffee house with bad coffee and rude waiters that talk behind your back, then this is your place. Please keep in mind that I grew up in Vienna and this used to be my favorite coffee house. Yes, the atmosphere is interesting and original (and hasn't been updated in decades), so if you want to experience that just walk inside and take a look. But don't stay too long or they will yell at you. They also don't want groups of more than 5 people. You also can't pay with credit cards. It's really a shame, this place had potential but ruined by greedy and shortsighted management as well mostly rude waiters (the Dutch guy is nice and ok). I recommend some of the other good coffee houses, like Cafe Schwarzenberg or Frauenhuber. read more

We had a group of 4 and walked in this cafe looking for a place to eat and have coffee. The waiters walked passed us for 10 minutes ignoring us and when we finally were asked how many people we had which was 4, they ignored us and pulled a group of 5 from behind us in line to be seated. Very disrespectful and wouldn't recommend anyone to come here. read more

My favorite cafe in Vienna. We went for a casual lunch and to continue our quest for the perfect apple strudel and Sacher torte. With coffee melange of course. The server suggested a couple of items for lunch as they don't really have a menu and they were both perfect - a couple sausages on sauerkraut with potatoes and a salad with a chicken pieces on top. Perfect. Coffee was great and so was the apple strudel done right with flaky skin. Such a nice casual environment where locals and us were reading the newspaper and enjoying our day. Lovely cafe in the center of Vienna! It was our first stop for a coffee and cake when we arrived in Vienna, and did not disappoint. The apple strudel was so delicious, and the coffees were perfect. I was pleasantly surprised with this place and over all i quite liked it. I felt really good in this place, although for me the color of the walls and the poorly looked after furniture did not suit my overall satisfactions. But i over looked this part of the venue and focused more on the importance that it keeps the old Viennese style and service one comes to expect in a place like this. So, to the comments above, the Braunerhof is exactly what they have said it is, except that they've completely missed the point. It's a Viennese Café, for Viennese people, and they really don't like tourists. The staff prioritise their clients from the longest known down, and once you've been there for a few years they start to notice you. Relax and enjoy the atmosphere if you want to learn how the local population live, if you want a 'have a nice day' coffee, there's a Starbucks round the corner! However, in terms of the local cafés, there are better ones around so only 3 stars (Can't comment on the viruses obviously, I didn't catch one) read more

Cute throwback to the 1950's in this cafe. Stopped in for a Saturday morning breakfast about 9 am and the place was relatively empty. Neat layout and booths, daily newspapers on the long sticks! The one waiter there was extremely nice and accommodating. We both had omelette and the bread selection at your table was good. Great breakfast stop in Vienna. read more
