Steep mountains on both sides of the large and ever-flowing Salmon River. We were very happy that The RV Landing was open for business and decided to join RV-owning friends for a weekend. We rented the very comfortable two-story cabin situated right on the bank of the river. The RV Landing is very well appointed with easy access from the road. Wide, gravel roads within the park lead to generous RV sites equipped with electrical, water and waste hookups, surrounded by lawns, picnic tables and fire pits. If you're camping in a tent, there is a new, modern restroom facility very close. The shower rooms are private, heated, and very clean. The cabin was equipped with everything we could possibly need to prepare meals (pots, pans, utensils, mixer, microwave, oven, solid-surface cooktop, very large sink, disposal, etc.), and also included spices and some condiments. The linens were high quality too! The master bed is excellent (a Westin bed) and it was just wonderful to sleep surrounded in down-filled comfort. There are also bunk beds in another sleeping loft area. I suggest you check out the photos on their website when you're gathering information. The canyon is huge (friends jet boated 75 miles up river from the Carlson Ranch!). This area is very popular for jet boating, fishing, rafting, hiking, off-road vehicle use, or just enjoying the wide, sand beaches along the shores. Cyclists enjoy riding along the river for 'unlimited' miles too. The RV Landing at Carlson Ranch is a very well-thought-out destination you'll enjoy returning to again and again.

First off the park is beautiful and nice to look at. However, I witnessed some things that would…read moreensure I will never come back. They have a dog on leash policy, which is posted everywhere. On my morning walk I witnessed a gentleman two campsites down walking his dog off a leash down by the boat Storage. The Park host asked him to put the dog up and he did so immediately. While the Park host continued walking her dog around the park, she witnessed somebody else three campsites down from him, exercising his hunting dogs down by the river. She yelled at this older gentleman to lock his dogs up, but I would say it was safe to assume he couldn't hear. The Park host then walked her dog all the way into somebody else's campsite where they had their dog leashed and tied to the fire pit. After a few seconds, the park host little dog snapped at the other dog chained to the fire pit and they got into a fight. Nobody was injured, but the Park host was definitely in the wrong. She screamed at my girlfriend and I while all this was going on and we were five campsites away doing nothing. While this is happening the gentleman three campsites down was putting his dogs in the trailer and the lady screamed at him as well. After everything was said and done the gentleman with the two hunting dogs who had nothing to do with any altercation whatsoever was kicked out of the park that day for something he had nothing to do with. Because the Park host demanded an apology from him for something he had nothing to do with. The lady that owned the other dog involved in the altercation went and told the Park host it had nothing to do with the other gentleman, but because he hurt the Park hose feeling by not apologizing for something he didn't do he was kicked out. This was not fair or just. It has nothing to do with me, but I watched the entire scenario unfold and the park host as well as the park Owner were completely in the wrong!

It's also located barely a block off the main thoroughfare, and an easy walk downtown to get to restaurants. Unlike the big chain hotels, each room is uniquely decorated and has personal touches. We're so glad we found the Elkhorn Lodge, and couldn't recommend it more highly.

The park itself is pretty typical, with RV's lined up in adjacent spaces. We had grass, shade, a picnic table, hook-ups, and wifi (yay!), and chickens roamed around the park all day. How is this not a fun place? When we checked in, there was an envelope tacked to the office door with my name on it with all the check-in information. Gotta love a process that is intuitive and effective! They let us have an early check-out the next day, so we didn't have to pay for an extra night, which was super nice! When we go back, I will ask about spaces near the river. My friend and I sat down next to the river at an un-occupied RV space and watched the sunset and listened to the flowing water. Very nice. No, the place is not perfect, and might feel a bit rough around the edges for some people, but it has that sort of "Riggins" feel, which fits my attitude nicely. I'd stay here again in a heartbeat if I needed a place to park my RV for a night.

So, she was surfing the web and came across this. I am so glad she did! It took almost 3 hours to get there, but the scenery from Vale to the dam was well worth it. At first, I didn't want to spend that much money for a boat ride...but, I now think it is worth every penny and more! I had such a great time. Dusty was our guide (what do you call them? Are they Captains?) He was not only a great guide, he just seems like a great person. He was nice, polite, and did one hell of a job on the river! I have great memories with my bestie, and some really great pictures also. We didn't see any exciting animals, but that's ok. Still a great trip! I will go to Yellowstone for wild bears! :)

Laundry is very clean. 2washers, 2 dryers. We took a back-in site which had a nice tree to shade the back of the RV. Site was level. Decent WIFI. 30 AMP (not a problem for us) Great water pressure. Decent WiFi, water pressure was good, park was clean, and the owners were pleasant and friendly...and is the ONLY reason they're getting a second star. Something changed roundabout June of 2022. The owners became either unable or unwilling to communicate like adults, locking tenants out of the restrooms, and generally making existence in this RV park uncomfortable for anyone with children. The locking out of the restrooms did not extend to all residents, only those with children, as per my experience and those of other parents there at the time with whom I've spoken. When we decided it was time to leave, we did get what was left of our deposit back, though it took them almost a solid month to do so. This place is okay for single people, retirees, or people passing through...but if you have another option, regardless of your circumstances, I very highly recommend you exercise those other options. If you're going to treat people like they're in a snobby RV resort and don't belong, then perhaps run an RV resort, and not an RV park with shitty gravel and no grass. Go elsewhere if you can.

Our group had a wide range of experience, ranging from never been camping to frequent outdoorsmen. The seamless way the guides made everyone feel safe, entertained and active during the trip was amazing. Larkin, Issac and Chuck are a dream team for sure. I cannot thank them enough. Arriving to camp each day with tents set up and shaded canopy waiting was great. It allowed us to not worry around set up and enjoy the river, and get some fishing in. The food was 5 star that we were over the moon about. We left wanting recipes but were so amazed on the freshness and preparedness MRO provided each day. No hot dogs on sticks here for sure. We saw lots of options when looking for a guided trip. I am so happy we chose Mountain River Outfitters. They allowed a Multi-generational trip, that got us all of comfort zone, to happen.
