Hands down, 11 out of 10, one of the most fantastic white water experiences we've ever had. I've been white water rafting for nearly 30 years with a variety of different rafting companies, however, this was my first experience white water kayaking and it was next level. Not only was the scenery some of the most spectacular we've ever seen, but the level of service, professionalism, knowledge and attentiveness were truly second to none. When they talk about the shadow effect in businesses, it's clear that someone as wonderful as Jaclyn is at the helm. Her care, attention to detail, responsiveness and all around loveliness spreads out to her amazing team and allows them to show up as their fullest selves and truly live into their superpowers. We wanted a no fuss family adventure and this proved the perfect way to have fun without the fuss. After an exciting day of fun on the river we were greeted at our campsite with food and cocktails under a large shade tent and our tents were set-up waiting for us. We loved every moment of this trip! There were 7 of us ranging in ages from 51 yrs old to 12 yrs old. Ther was even a couple in their 70's on this trip and they loved it too! We had a wonderful memorable five day trip on the main Salmon with an outstanding crew of friendly and attentive guides. We camped on beautiful sand beaches where the guides planned fun for the kids, relaxation for the grown-ups and three delicious meals every day. We toured historic sites, hiked a little, climbed to a hot springs, paddled kayaks and learned tons about the river. We saw big horn sheep and lambs, otter, mink, a baby black bear, eagles, chukar, grouse, osprey, deer and fawns, bass, northern pike minnows and merganser ducks. The white water was super fun and our guides kept us safe. Jenn was an excellent team lead and Kate was especially fun -- so ask for them :-) read more

MRO was terrific. From start to finish, our family of 4 (me, hubs, 2 daughters 10 and 12) had a blast. The staff was SUPER accommodating. In fact we neglected to find a place to board our dog for the day and bc of covid, all places had shut down. One of the folks there found a local groomer who was willing to take our Roxy on short notice....above and beyond! And for the trip itself, the staff was funny, engaging, supportive and skilled. My 10 year old barraged our guide with zillions of questions and he patiently answered all of them. When one of the rapids dampened her courage (pun intended:)), Donny was able to soothe her fears to overcome the next one. There is nothing I would add that they could do to be better. MRO is absolutely AMAZING! We just returned from a 5 day Main Salmon River Trip and it was one of the most memorable vacations we have ever had. The beauty of the canyon is stunning, but it was the guides and staff that made it memorable. They did not leave any detail undone. From the transportation to where we started on the river (seriously a small plane flight over the mountains, what?!?) To appetizers at camp, games for the kids, history lessons. I could go on and on. The food was seriously delicious. I have no idea how they cook that good of food in a campsite they just set up. The guides are also so personable. They each went out of there way to get to know each of us, including my 7, 9, and 11 year old daughters. They played games with them, showed them cool things at camp, and made them feel right at home from the very beginning. The women who did the booking - Lisa & Brenda were so incredibly informative & helpful as well. We even loved the shuttle driver - who baked insanely delicious cookies for the trip! Just got back from a 5 day 4 night trip on the main salmon with MRO. This is the trip of a lifetime! We booked with 23 of our friend and family. Yelp First Dates, vol. 2 "Old 'Mon River" OK, so let's say you have a first date set up, and you want something ... out-of-the-box. No roses, restaurants, or chocolates needed. Go to Riggins, ID. Take him on rafting trip or hike, and camp along the Salmon River, at a place like Spring Bar. But, before you arrive, stop at Mountain River for coffee and some delicious Stacey Cakes granola. Yes, you can also book a rafting or fishing trip, if you'd like, but the espresso/coffee bar is quite nice, and it has fast free wifi, always helpful in a comparatively remote spot like Riggins. Plus, if the first day goes well - and the coffee and granola will definitely help - you could take it "up a notch" by driving the next day to the Heaven's Gate overlook, and camping at Windy Saddle, overlooking the Seven Devils Mountains and Hell's Canyon far, far below. On the way back, try other spots in Riggins. It's a small town, and you will want to try Two Rivers Roasters, too. But Mountain River's Outdoor Center will be there when you need a good cup, a superb baked good (Stacey's Cakes is the best bakery in nearby McCall), and all the wifi you can swallow. First dates have just gotten that much more interesting ... Idaho style. Who says that outdoor adventure and endless love don't mix? Note: No potatoes were harmed in the writing of this review. My family and I did the half-day trip with MRO, and it was everyone's favorite part of our stay in Idaho. Ryan and Kyle were our guides, and we couldn't have asked for nicer, more fun people to steer, especially since a bunch of us were first-timers. I happened to be in Ryan's raft, and I am thrilled that we got the chance to swim in the rapids. Went on a steelhead trip in mid March. Our guide/boat captain (Jess) was rude and a poor communicator. I can't recommend a fishing trip with this guide. we have went with MRO in the past and have had great trips/guides, but Jess is terrible. recommend you ask who your guide will be, and specifically ask for anyone other than Jess, I've read reviews on him from 2015 and he has not changed. If they can't give you an assurance you will not get Jess, go with another outfitter, there are others who treat their customers better. read more

Then Jess took my brother, father and I out on the Salmon for a 1/2 day of fishing. Very helpful for us novice casters. We still managed to catch just over 20. We recently took a rafting trip down the Salmon River and I am extremely happy we went through Mountain River Outfitters. Not only was our guide a Colorado Native (props for bringing it home!), but she was extremely knowledgable and well versed in the ways of the river. Because of this, she took us through some of the more advanced holes and rapids that the other boats in our caravan skirted around. I thought that the prices were more than reasonable for the experience and fun that everyone had. On a break, we were treated to some pretty awesome homemade cookies, trail-mix, granola bars, and a variety of sodas and bottled water. All-in-all, I am extremely happy we chose to go with MRO and I would recommend it hands down! read more

I've been on other rafting trips in the past and he was, by far, the best guide I've had. Hoping to get up there next year to do a 2-day trip. Plus, the prices are super reasonable ($89/person for a full-day which includes lunch? That's a pretty good deal.) Did a 1/2 day trip with my family at the last minute this summer. They treated us very well, gave us a screaming deal and man did we have fun. We had all ages on the trip young and old. Service was great, price was great. Water was low so it was not the best raft trip I've ever been on but that was NO fault of theirs. The biggest disappointment was no photographer taking pictures on the shoreline. Always ask if the photographer is going to be there. We assumed and then we were disappointed. My family took a 5 day float on the Main Salmon on July 25th, 2017. My wife, myself, our 7- and 11-year old sons, and my sister-in-law all went. We all had different levels of experience and different expectations. Amazingly, we all left with those expectations exceeded. Whether we wanted to float while someone else paddled us safely through the scenery, paddle through some whitewater, or really challenge ourselves by running rapids in an inflatable kayak, we all had the opportunity to make the most of what we wanted to do. As a group of 15, we had 3 oar rafts, one paddle raft, and 2 inflatable kayaks. Everyone was encouraged to give everything a try and everyone found their comfort level, balancing relaxation with adrenaline. Pulling off the river for lunch led to games of paddle ball or frisbee, while the guides set tables and coolers for healthy chicken Ceasar wraps and cookies. Camping on beaches of fine, white sand was amazing as the guides set tents for us and cooked meals you would not have guessed were prepared in a traveling kitchen. And desserts were always outstanding as well. Each day brough new paddling fun, new wildlife viewing, and short walks off the side of the river to view old homesteads, old mine camps, or other history as the guides explained the river lore. But the thing that impressed me most was how well the guides incorporated the kids. Whether it was games of tug of war while balancing on ammo cans, paddle ball tournaments, or fishing lessons; the boys were never bored and that meant we as parents were also able to relax and enjoy. If I am ever able to do another rafting trip, you can bet that I will be booking with Mountain River Outfitters again. read more

We did a full day trip. We had so much fun. Our day started with an amazing bus ride up the road with Richard who is very nice and eager to help. Our guide was Ben, aka sunshine, who was excellent and had supreme local knowledge, not to mention he was an incredible river guide. We spent 6 hours with him and it was full of excitement, surprise, laughter, and memories. He prepared us a great lunch, and found us a phenomenal beach to do it on. We just went on a FULL DAY river trip down the Salmon River - mid July - and have to say that Mountain River Outfitters did a wonderful job of covering everything for our excursion. Ellie was our tour guide, and she was cool. She got us through everything without any problems, and was very conscientious of our crew when we went down the kayak, behind the raft. We had a few tumbles, and each time, she handled it as well as you can. Everyone was fine - yay!!! It was a great time to come weather-wise. The water was really refreshing. But I found out that the water level is higher and the current much stronger in May and June - but the water is also much colder, and the weather can be sketchy. I would have liked to have gotten better, more intense rapids... The Salmon River had some long stretches of quiet waters, but the ones we went through were still fun. Mountain River Outfitters can't control 'the river,' so that's why I gave them the 'five stars' for their services. Next time, I think I'd do the May or June season. But Ellie told me that the higher water levels cover some rapids that aren't exposed in July, but have some really good rapids that don't exist when the water level is low. So she said it's best to go when you like the weather the best. Not sure if Ellie knew the background and history of the River and Riggins well or not... We actually had a crew member who knew almost everything about the area and kept telling us what this and that was, so I'm not sure if MRO informs their guides about the area and local flora and fauna. It would be good for MRO to have their guides know that stuff for Idaho foreigners such as ourselves. Thanks again MRO, and Miss Ellie. Loved the river lunch too. Splendid! read more
