My husband and I just moved to Oregon, not quite a month ago. My best friend, Charity, came out from Kansas City, and wanted to do something that she cant do back in Missouri. So, she was surfing the web and came across this. I am so glad she did! It took almost 3 hours to get there, but the scenery from Vale to the dam was well worth it. At first, I didn't want to spend that much money for a boat ride...but, I now think it is worth every penny and more! I had such a great time. Dusty was our guide (what do you call them? Are they Captains?) He was not only a great guide, he just seems like a great person. He was nice, polite, and did one hell of a job on the river! I have great memories with my bestie, and some really great pictures also. We didn't see any exciting animals, but that's ok. Still a great trip! Hells Canyon Adventures was the perfect weekend adventure! The white water rafting was the perfect combination of 'make your stomach sink' to 'rocking chairs' and smooth floating down the river. Wyatt and the other guides were fun and easy to talk to and always kept us safe. They were also full of many fun facts about places and things along the way. We stopped to see old homesteads, take hikes, look at some pictographs, and have an excellent family-style meal. After rafting down the river we made a quick turnaround on the jet boat to round out a day of fun, laughter, adrenaline, and relaxation. Overall we had a wonderful experience and will definitely be booking another tour with this company in the future. read more

Yesterday we took the jet boat trip with Dillon and Heather. Everyone on the boat had a wonderful time. Dillon is an excellent captain and used his expertise to give us exciting twists, turns, dives and splashes through the rapids. The lunch break was very nicely set up. What a great experience . My hubby booked this for us and a friend and we pretty much came in knowing not much of what was to come . Getting here is a long arduous task but once inside the canyon ,the views are just mesmerizing . I have done rafting a few times before but this was a very different experience from that . Its a little confusing getting here as after a point there are not enough signs and once we parked the car and went to the deck ,locating our company was even harder. we had to go ask multiple people if they knew where we were supposed to start from as there are multiple companies operating in the area. Eventually the Captain Mark and his mate Cody showed up and guided us . We started almost an hour after our intended time . The rapids range from Class I to heart-pounding Class V and our accompanied by varying decibels of oooohhs and ahhhss from those riding the jet boat .Multiple rapids and gorgeous views later we were dropped of at a spot for lunch , which was a nice meal of Tacos .There again was a long wait before we got back on the Boat but Cody kept us occupied with his fun stories. It was an awesome experience in all and I would highly recommend them to anyone who is looking for a fun experience on the river. They have multiple packages for multiple days or less and take safety precautions seriously . Mark and Cody both were a great team and ensured that the trip was fun for all of us . read more

I was a bit apprehensive about going on this jet boat tour, but our guide, Dusty, clearly very experienced in navigating the rapids, helped put me at ease immediately. Both Dusty and Dillon made all of us feel safe and comfortable. Every aspect of this trip was amazing. We experienced tranquil cruising, and exciting 3 and 4-class rapids, along the river with breathtaking views all around. We saw bears, big horn sheep, mountain goats, and bald eagles. My mom, son and I booked a day rafting trip down Hell's Canyon with Hell's Canyon Adventures. When we arrived we found the team prepping for the trip with friendly attitudes making us feel welcome and happily taking the time to answer questions and help us get ready. We loved the trip - it was beautiful, our raft mates fun, our guide knowledgeable and funny - overall highly recommend the trip and the company. The Snake River was running high when Dylan expertly piloted the Jet Boat down from Hell's Canyon Dam to Kirkwood, and we were thrilled with walls of white water pouring over the front 1/2 of the boat as we plunged down class IV rapids! I felt like a kid again, high-fiving grinning passengers and staring up at the mountains on both sides of the canyon. Oh, and we saw big horn sheep high on the walls, bald eagles soaring overhead and even a bear on the drive down into the canyon. Since the Hells Canyon Dam is a very remote place to start, we spent the night before at a nearby campground run by Idaho Power, so we just had an easy drive to the "put in" just below the dam, down the steps from the parking lot at the visitor center. Remember, HCA runs on Pacific Time, since the launch is on the Oregon side of the river, so we had an extra hour to drive across the dam from our campground on the Idaho side on Mountain Time. Lunch was delicious in a peaceful orchard, and we enjoyed exploring the old ranch. Later in the day, after the ride back upriver, we found the Awesome Burger truck and ate more after all the excitement and fresh air! I could probably nitpick about the gift shop not being open when we got there, the long drive to Hells Canyon, no cell signal or the limited background information about the area, but the truth is that this is America's deepest Canyon, an absolute blast of a ride, has stunning scenery and wildlife, and is an area well worth spending more time researching and exploring on your own. Hells Canyon Adventures covers the most exciting part of the canyon in a fast fun boat with a great captain, so you should totally do a tour with them! read more

We did the Sheep Creek jet boat ride with Captain Mark Yates. We truly enjoyed the experience barreling through the rapids, observing the wildlife, including a bald eagle and a black bear. Mark was an outstanding captain and guide, giving us history of the area and expertly navigating the Snake river. We were served lunch at Sheep Creek Ranch which was delicious. This trip was well worth the money and the effort to get there. The value was in the history and experience. Scenery wasn't bad either!! read more

Our experience with Hells Canyon Adventures wasn't as disappointing as Travis's. There were a few glitches, but overall the experience was amazing. I'm not giving this review 5 stars, since we did experience communication problems before our trip. First, reservations are only made via telephone. We received no confirmation, so we left several messages before our trip, but our calls were not returned. Jet boat trips are sometimes canceled for a couple of reasons listed on their website. We finally reached someone who assured us that the trip was scheduled. We stayed in their lodge. The exterior of the lodge is so weird. It looks like a huge garage. The interior is very lodge-like however. There are only three rooms, each of which I presume could house at least ten people, since our room had six beds. The lodge was meticulously clean and comfortable. The lodge was booked, but the group of guests staying in the other two rooms did not returned on the night we stayed, so we were the only two in the lodge. We sat outside and enjoyed the view and using our binoculars to enjoy the magnificent birds, deer and quail. This place is quite far from anything else, so it was so peaceful and perfect. We were served oatmeal, fruit and cereals for breakfast, which were perfect before our jet boat adventure The boat promptly departed as scheduled. Dusty was our captain and he is an amazing driver. Approaching the huge rapids, it is hard to imagine crossing them without getting hurt. He knew how to navigate the rapids though. We saw bald eagles, mountain goats and deer. The scenery is incredible. It is so beautiful in this canyon, which is the deepest in the United States. If you love nature, this is an adventure you will never forget. We found the company through word of mouth.We made the reservations online about two months out. You pay half with your reservation and then the rest when the trip is confirmed. We got emails explaining everything. Waiver could be completed ahead of time. Time frame on when to be at the damn and everything. (Time zone is important) They asked in the email to confirm with them 48 hours prior to the trip. No problem. We show up ahead of time. Everything was set up, boats and rafts. You could just float or you could row. We were asked to row. Our guide was Dylan. He was very kind and told us all about the history of the river and that he had been doing it for 11 seasons now. He kept us all entertained and educated. They packed a fabulous lunch for us. Everything you could want for a wrap, couple different pasta salads, and carrot cake. The scenery was beautiful. We saw bald eagles but unfortunately not much other wild life. The water was perfect for this super hot day. You make a couple stops where you get to see original homestead and pictogtaphs on the side of a rock cliff. The weather was amazing. Our ride back in the jet boat was great and exciting add well. What a fantastic day trip. If suggest the raft trip, day trip, to anyone. read more

We had a nice stay in the lodge and a great day on the river! I can't say enough good things about our jet boat ride today! Wow...it def didn't disappoint. I would come back here and do it again in a heartbeat. This section of Hell's Canyon is amazing. If you like driving and feeling like you're in a remote location, this is the spot for you. The booking of the lodge and boat trip was seamless and I was emailed detailed instructions on how to get there, found it no problem. You def feel like you're away from it all out there. Our boat ride left right on time, the captain seemed eager for us to enjoy the ride and gave good descriptions along the way. Going thru the rapids was a lot of fun and felt very safe, yet still exciting. We saw several big horn sheep very close to water line and later in the day we saw a decent sized black bear, even closer up than the sheep, right on the rocks at the shore line looking for fish. I really appreciated how the captain stopped for several minutes and turned around to get a closer look. Quite spectacular to see a wild bear up that close! He wanted to make sure we all got a good view and didn't rush it at all. He even went back thru one of the bigger rapids again just so we could have another go at it. The boat and his driving skills are impressive! As for the lodge, I found it very clean and comfortable. I would stay there again for sure. I just have a couple suggestions that would be helpful. There isn't a lot in the area in the way of food stops. We went to the store in Halfway and got easy fixings for dinner steak, veggie and potato. All that could be cooked on the outdoor bbq grill at the lodge. I was very thankful they were still there when we arrived bc I needed to borrow a knife and a couple other basic kitchen utensils that weren't provided in the common area (they do provide ample plates, silverware, cups, bowls). A small cutting board, kitchen knife and foil are some basics needed. Understandably they lock their kitchen when they close for the day but there isn't even a sink or running water of any kind in the lodge common area. The closest is your bathroom sink in your room. This makes it difficult and unsanitary when you're trying to cook. Even just grilling simple steaks. We made it thru but a water source so you can at least wash your hands would be helpful. Even some sort of outdoor sink would work, just a thought anyway. Regardless of that, it was a great place. I'd stay there again! Just come prepared! read more

Great experience! Got Jet Boated out 22 miles into the canyon so that our group could backpack out on a multi-day adventure. It was a lot of fun to be able to see the whole canyon and the route we were going to take before we were even hiking. Very scenic and enjoyable jaunt up the canyon and a beautiful hike out. What an experience!! We loved it!! We initially booked the overnight jet boat excursion; however, we were the only ones booked so we switched to the Kirkland excursion. This was a day trip from 10 to 3-4 in the afternoon. Dusty and Nikki were a great team! We saw a black bear, bighorn sheep, river otters and several birds. Lunch was fantastic! All the fixings for sandwich wraps along with coleslaw, salad and brownies. We also had a swim stop which was refreshing. Just know there is a friendly carp that is obviously accustomed to people and will swim amongst you. It did startle me when it swam up and brushed by my hip. The kids on the boat loved it. Overall, I would definitely do this again. Hopefully, the overnight excursion. Try to stay at the Hells Canyon Lodge as it's the closest to the launch site, besides Hells Canyon Park....which looked like a beautiful spot to camp/RV. The lodge only has 3 rooms so book early! This was our 2nd Hells Canyon jetboat Trip with Hells Canyon Adventures. We did the 4.5 hour trip from shells Canyon Dam to Kirkwood. Water at 32,000 CSF. Sunny. 80 degrees! We took our son, his wife and their 4 children . (Ages 4,6,10,12). Mark Yates (owner of HCA) was our Captain and Brandon, our Guide. It was a perfect day, in every way! Fun rapids, great scenery (saw 2 bald eagles, 3 bears at the put--in across the river, and deer). May is a great time to go as the mountains are green, wildflowers abound, and water is fast! I can't say enough about this experience! I would highly recommend your putting this on the top of your Bucket List! read more

I made reservations for me and 2 friends about a week in advance. I received a confirmation and completed and signed their waiver. We drove down from Spokane to Pittsburg landing. We were told to be at the boat landing at 7:45am pacific time and the boat was leaving 8:00am sharp. We got to the landing at 7:15am pacific time and waited until almost 10:00am pacific. We were passing through the area and decided to check into taking a jet boat tour of Hells Canyon. We called HCA and spoke with Brandi who was informative and friendly. As we have 2 small dogs, we were concerned about the logistics of coordinating care of our little dogs. Brandi assured us that we could leave our dogs with their staff in the office and that they would be well taken care of. To assuage our concerns, we did a dry run a day before our tour and dropped off our pups to see how things went. We met with Tanner and visited with him for a bit. Tanner was great, he was friendly and very informative as he answered our myriad of questions. We then left our pups with Tanner while we drove out to the Hells Canyon Visitor Center. Upon our return the HCA office to pick up the pups we were delighted to find that they well taken care of and in no rush to leave Tanner. With that behind us, we signed up for the Kirkwood tour. The following day we dropped our pups off with Nicki, who was warm and an obvious animal lover. Dylan was our captain and we had a great time. This was our first time in a jet boat on a river. My wife has kayaked extensively and I've done some rafting over the years. It was crazy fun in the jet boat. It was weirdly exhilarating powering through the rapids. Dylan expertly navigated the boat through rapids and was able to chose a line to safely yet, still get us a bit wet. The canyon was beautiful. Due to the high daytime temp of 110* we didn't see as much wildlife as we had hoped as I suppose that they too were most likely hunkered down trying to survive the heat. We some some deer, elk, and osprey. Our lunch spot was like a garden of Eden. We met with Bill, the caretaker who is very knowledgable about the canyon. It was surreal to see the lush green lawn, orchards and shrubbery. We met the resident wild turkey. Kudos to Bill for his hard work on keeping the homestead looking lush. What a great place to eat a tasty and filling lunch served up by the HCA crew. After lunch, we jumped back into the boat and motored on down to Kirkwood. We toured the interesting homestead/museum, took a cooling dip in the river and started our return trip back to the dam. Powering up the rapids is even more exciting than going down them. Having only rafted down rapids in my life, it felt so wrong but, so right going up the rapids. Both my wife and I have a great time and would easily not only do a jet boat tour but, we'd gladly do it with the HCA crew. Thanks HCA for memorable day. read more

This was a great tour. The food on board was fantastic- fresh and a big gourmet selection with homemade cake for dessert.The historic stops along the way made the trip extremely interesting. The jet boat experience on the class 4/5 rapids was exhilarating and our boat operator was very kind, safety conscious and knowledgeable. My husband and I did the two-day rafting trip where you raft down for two days, camping overnight part way through the canyon, and then take the jet boat back up river on the afternoon of the second day. Our guide, Dylan, was awesome-- he's a really nice guy who knows the river like the back of his hand and is really welcoming. The rapids were fun and exciting, but I felt safe the whole time in Dylan's hands. It's worth noting that you will get very wet! Wear shoes that are good in the water and quick-drying clothes. We also went swimming in calmer parts of the river, so swimsuits come in handy. We camped overnight at Sheep Creek, which is a grassy Eden in the canyon. A tent and cots were provided, and they were nice-- nothing super fancy, but very functional, and in such a lovely setting. On the trip down we got to do several side hikes and see a lot of pictographs on the canyon walls. The food was delicious, and everything was taken care of in a very professional way so we were free to just relax. I found booking to be quick and easy. I had a few questions about logistics and what to bring, and my questions were quickly answered by email or phone call during business hours.
