Fantastic customer service, quick table service and great food. 100% will be back. Breakfast was great. Biscuits and Gravy were top notch!

I called ahead to see what the wait time was. Gentlemen, told me they move fast but currently it was 15minutes. We will be right over. My wife and I walked in with our 2yr old and 1yr old. Can you accommodate a table for us? The kind lady went out of her way, She moved a reserved sign and setting over to a high top table and set us up at a standard table even though they were slammed. The bus boy came over and apologized for the wait and offered to take our drink order. Owner Miguel came over a few minutes later apologized for the wait and offered to take our order. Food came out relatively quickly for how busy they were. OH MY GOSH!!!! Food was soooo good. I order ceviche as an appetizer and the Cowboy Burger. My wife, the taco salad adding shrimp. Other waiter came and checked on us and got us refills. For being short staffed and so apologetic, they were one of the faster restaurants I've been to. The fact they noticed we had two little ones and went out of their way for us, (even though the bar is prominent in there business) goes to show the kindness and caring of the ownership and workers at this establishment. I really don't understand all the 5 star reviews. This place is awful. We went a few months ago and had an "ok" experience. I ordered the All American Burger - rare. It came well done. When I brought it to the attention of the owner, Miguel, he explained that because it's so thin, it can't be rare - well that would've been good to know when I ordered it. I had to change my order to the 1/2 pounder and it was great. That takes us to this past Sunday...we again ordered the 1/2 pounder and when it arrived at the table it was the All American - well done and served on a smashed bun. Three of us order this and they were all wrong. The manager came over and we showed him, he said he would get it corrected immediately. It took 20 minutes - really, how long does it take to cook a rare burger. When it finally arrived, it was actually two 1/4 pound burgers on top of each other - it was the original burger that we received plus a new one. They were not rare. What the heck, what are you trying to pull over on us. When we again brought it to the manager's attention, he said we were actually getting more for our money because they were each 1/3 pound burgers so we were getting a 2/3 pound burger instead of a 1/2 pounder. Needless to say, this is not what we ordered and we were not happy. Also, our 4th friend ordered the tri tip sandwich and when it arrived, it was burnt ends and totally inedible. We again told the manager who explained that it was cooked earlier in the day and when there's an order, it's cut and recooked on the stove. Gross!!! We demanded a new sandwich and it actually looked better but again, it took over 20 minutes to do this. We will obviously never return to this so called restaurant. They should stick to being a bar and close the restaurant - it's a joke. read more

Worst place ever, service was slow 2 hamburgers came 30 minutes apart. But the people behind us got their plates at the same time. they couldn't put 2 peace's of ground beef on a grill at the same time. The food was bland. There was a burnt fry under our plate of nachos "what else was on that plate" Over 100 dollars easy for tasteless surprise on your plate food. and the screaming was so loud you couldn't hear yourself talk. no thank you read more

Took our dog (big) here one day for lunch and it was excellent! Ashley served us with a smile on her face and was attentive to our needs, even our dog! We had the Mexican Philly and Steele Tri Tip sandwiches, and both were excellent! The only thing that was better were the fries-the best-I'll come back just for them!! Big portions, we ended up taking half of each sandwich home and had them for dinner, still good!! We saw another party eating a burrito and it looked huge, we want to go back to try those and will soon. Definitely a good experience, and we used a coupon and it was no problem at all! Sizeable menu that will undoubtbly have one of your favorite dishes, and it's all cooked real well. It was my first time in and there was a slight issue with my order, only that they did not yet have steaks prepared to order, yet the owner came out personally to speak with me and accomodate anything he could. He continued to personally wait on me throughout my stay, cooked my steak personally, and spent time shooting the shit and showing me around. Came for breakfast today. Greeted, seated,ordered, and coffee almost immediately. 1 hour later and 4 cups of coffee (1 refill), still no food. Didn't want to just leave. I offered to pay for my coffee. They then told me the cook was 45 min late. Said sorry and took my money for coffee. Left hungry and annoyed that not only did they waste my time by not telling me there was no cook they didn't offer to give me my coffee for free. I didn't feel good about it, but I did not leave a tip even though they were apologetic. I have eaten here before with good results and good food. I may not return. read more

Came back yet again yesterday, loved that it's not packed and noisy as we both suffer from social anxiety. This place always hits!!! Service was 10/10, foods 10/10, the AC felt amazing ! Servers are always helpful and are more then happy to give suggestions. Two gentlemen we've never seen before but they killed it with the service! We ordered two sets of elote bites, and split a burger and fries. We went for our 7 year anniversary! Was glad we went and we still took home leftovers! We usually get the brownie bites but the burger and fries portions left us no room we WILL be back for you brownie bites and elote bites!!!! Got a Shirley temple as we are in recovery and I loved the fact they don't force alcohol on you even though it's a bar!!! Overall this is my favorite place to go when we seldomly do sit in eating, I choose this place time and time again! Great job guys! Keep up the amazing atmosphere, food and good vibes ! Saw a post on Facebook regarding this restaurant and thought we would give it a try. We drove 20 miles to check it out. The server was great! The orders do not match what you see on their web site. Three of us ordered campechana's and it was a cocktail and not what we saw in the photo and we were not impressed with the campechana which had no flavor. The cook came out and said those photos are from the previous owner so we felt bad and ate what we ordered because we didn't want to send them back. I ordered a dessert and same thing, it was different than the photo on the website. There were no apologies, no credit on the bill so I am leaving them a one star review. read more

This is another one of those hidden gems. Most people have probably driven past this place 100xs and never knew what they had. This was my first visit. We arrived right at opening after a long night of gambling. The waitress very happy, great customer service. She gives off the vibe she really cares about your needs. She knows her job and knows the business well. They have a great selection of breakfast specials. Serving enough food to keep you quite full or maybe even a snack for later. The food was all cooked perfectly. We added a side of biscuits and gravy they were delicious. Light and fluffy biscuits with a rich flavorful country gravy. I can hardly wait to come back and see what else they do well. If you want to start your day with a smile ask for Shay her customer service is sure to wow you. As for the ambiance the place is on old highway 94 in the hills. There's a country vibe in the air. It's always great to hear some Seager first thing in the morning. read more

Weird ass place! I went with friends and at the end of the night I asked our server if I could cover the first round. She came back with a tray full of random drinks and insisted that we had ordered this one and said I had just asked to pay for the first round. She was able to take the canned drinks off of my tab but not the drinks that was already poured. Super random because obviously none of us wanted to drink anymore and that was clear. We were seated right away on a sunday (it does look like they have good specials during the week). Food was really good. I got biscuits & gravy and they didn't disappoint. Thanks for the feedback and response Miguel. The fact that you did respond was great. I don't expect Steele94 to be like Texas Roadhouse, and that you can't meet those expectations. However I recommend checking out some other small mom and pop country roadside diners that have excellent food, are affordable, and have extremely small kitchens. One is Mary Etta's Café on Old Highway 80 in Flinn Springs. Not a lot of tables, most of the workers are past their 60's, great service and down home hospitality. The next would be Janet's Montana Café in Alpine. It's been around a while - not as long as Mary Etta's, but good food, affordable, huge servings, scratch made biscuits (which are massive btw), and a nice setting like yours. Any Janet's Café's are good overall, but this one is a different level of special. And of course there's Clayton's in Coronado - since 1941. They have a great menu, fantastic food (their onion rings are amazing), shakes, massive burgers, fresh pies, lattes, super family friendly. And again, very affordable. Be a roadside café as we need more of those, but I'd say look at how you can focus on affordable great food - maybe not do $80 steaks and $60 lobster tails - as most, if any, roadside cafés don't - but rather focus on good old fashioned down home cooking. Fried chicken, pot roast, meatloaf, amazing mashed potatoes, great burgers, onion rings, comfort food, and so any family can afford it and not walk out having spent $60 for two... focus on great comfort food. Maybe include some Mexican dishes in that - pozole, albondagos (?) soup, mole, good beef tacos, chile rellenos, - affordable good food. Nothing over $30 bucks.. and the stuff over $20 would be your specials - if you want to be family friendly, it has to be where a family of four can leave with full bellies and not an empty wallet. (And if you need help with creating a great menu that appeals to more folks, which equals more customers overall, not just those coming for a drink, I'd be happy to help). read more

We visited this place on a Sunday for brunch, we were a party of 8, Sunday family fun day! This place is a good fit for maybe a couple or party of no more than 4 people, but definitely not for large groups. We ordered our food and waited about 45 minutes to be served. Half of the plates were cold and they didn't come all at once. We never received one of the orders even though some of us were already done with our meals. We were told that is was coming out next, next never happened. Our waitress, Joanna or "Joan", kept giving us attitude. First, when the farmer's waffle came. This dish is very misleading because you expect a good old chicken and waffles and bacon dish. Instead, it's a waffle that has "chicken and bacon IN IT". It looks like a regular waffle, you can't see the chicken or bacon "in it". We sent it back and she wasn't happy. The avocado toast we ordered came last, the most simple dish out of all, and it was missing the eggs on top. Once again the waitress gave us attitude and questioned whether we had ordered the eggs or not. Again, server 101 says the customer is always right. Apologize and make it right. Instead, she brought the eggs and threw the plate on the table and said "here, now you can place your eggs on top!". Unbelievable. Also, the bread wasn't toasted, it was soggy. When we asked the waitress if our bread was toasted, she said yes, even though we were holding the soggy bread up. The only solution she offered us was to send the food back. 45 minute wait time and we only got 1 round of drinks, towards the end we asked for more coffee which was brought to us cold, we asked for hot coffee and they took forever to bring it. No water or anything. The other waitress that was there however, Teresita, was very helpful and brought us coffee and was attending her tables like you should, constantly...it's a shame we didn't get her in the first place. The business owner, Miguel, came to speak to us towards the end of our visit. He asked about our experience and we were honest with him. His attempt to make things right was offering a 20% discount on the bill for the horrible experience. However, when the bill came, we were charged for the meal we never received and the other 2 meals we sent back. We had to call him back again and explain the situation. We were not looking for a hand out or free breakfast, but we were not willing to pay for an order that never came or orders that were sent back. Instead, 2 hours after getting there, we walked out with a 20% discount and a lousy waitress that never came back to our table. She sent Teresita to give us our bill and never even apologized for her attitude. We all agreed and without exaggeration, this was worst customer service and dinning experience any of us have ever had. Needless to say we do not recommend this establishment. There are a million other ways to spend a Sunday morning with family, take this one off the list. read more

Food is bomb, great beer selection of small brews and staples, and the servers are fantastic. Cool dive bar! $5 beers all day long on Fridays and 50% appetizers (not sure what the hours are on appetizers) but this place has become our spot. We love their wings! Burgers are cooked perfectly. The food didn't seem homemade or fresh to me, and the restaurant wasn't very clean. As for service, I'd say it was ok. I think if you're "s regular" there's probably more attention paid to you; at least that was my observation. Wish I had a better experience since it's a local place, but no such luck. read more

Ok, not sure where to start with this place. Overall, this place was a complete letdown. We arrived and we're seated and after about 15 minutes a waitress came by and said they were slammed and that someone would be with us shortly. We looked around and saw plenty of empty tables, so they weren't that busy. Eventually a waitress came and took our drink order and then our meal order. We asked about the meat specials and she told us what was available. Three people in our party ordered rib eye steaks. Our food came out in shifts. Four people in our party got side salads and she brought three of them with no dressing. We had to go find dressing and hunt her down to find the fourth salad and still no dressing for that one. Then she offered chips and salsa. We thought it would be on the house since we had waited at this point 45 minutes for our food with no explanation for why it was taking so long. Turns out we were charged for that. Then about every 20 minutes someone got their food. Still an hour later the rib eyes are not brought out. Finally, we asked what was taking so long and she said I'm sorry they are cooking the steak on the grill. So we asked her to check on that. Eventually the steak dinners arrived after everyone else had eaten. My order was wrong and the side salads were the most depressing thing I'd ever seen. This place could be so great, but they really need to make some changes for that to happen. Finally the bill comes out and we find out that the steak dinners that took over an hour to arrive were 55 dollars a piece! The steak was cooked well and had good flavor but it should not have taken so long to make. I rarely leave negative reviews but this has to be said. read more

My friend and I, were there yesterday for breakfast. The waitress we had gave us very bad service. She didn't serve us the complete meal. She left behind the biscuit and gravy and a side of pancakes. She had also offered us salsa, which it never made it on the table. We talked to another waitress, which she apologized to us. We got up to pay, and our waitress had charged us the full amount. we said no, we didn't get the complete meal. She said we were getting it to go, the biscuits and gravy. Oh no, we don't want it anymore. We where there to dine in, we didn't order to go. It was our first time there, don't think I will go back. What a jewel of a place in East County. Eclectic decor, laid back, really good food, friendly service and good portions. Looked like everyone walked out with a doggy box. Their biscuit & gravy combination was exceptional. The biscuit just melted in my mouth and the gravy with chunks of sausage was a perfect compliment. Terrible customer service! They made my food wrong. I asked them to fix it. The waiter said "no". I ask for him to take it off my bill and he said "no". Warm beer and bad customer service. Not a winning combination in my book. The funny thing is there was only 4 people in the place at lunchtime including me. It was so much better when it was the "Greek Sombrero". Interesting if you read the comments. They have continually received poor reviews as time has gone on. They seem to all be the same. Poor (rude) service and poor food. One review says it is for sale. I have really tried to like this place since I am walking distance from my house after a night out. Don't hate it but don't love it. Kind of indifferent about it. There are better options in the area for food, such as Brody's, but they do have live music when they can convince someone to play. So, good but kinda meh. read more

This place is WONDERFUL!! I'm a Jamul local and I always have a good time going here. Not to mention it's DOG FRIENDLY and my pups can come along and enjoy with me too. I LOVED Valentin's but the new menu is smaller and not the authentic Mexican food we used to get there. The chicken tortilla soup and the enchiladas suizas were so good but now it's more of a bar menu with hot dogs and hamburgers. I got the San Felipe burrito which was tasty but came a la carte with no rice and beans & cost $13 which I thought was too much. There was also a charge for chips and salsa now- not much but still... I was also shocked at how high the beer prices were when we were there. The bartender sat down and was speaking very loudly to some other customers about politics, complaining a lot about the government and she wasn't wearing a mask. I only saw one server wearing a mask. I'm bummed because it was a really nice local, friendly spot but I won't be back. read more
