Im not used to leave bad reviews as I do not like to throw stones at small businesses, but given the fact that I've seen others complain about the same, and this is THE THIRD TIME this happens to me, I'm compelled to revive the issue and BRING THIS TO MANAGERS/OWNERS ATTENTION: SERVICE IS TOO SLOW, specially for a coffee shop. Today I stand in line for more than 20 minutes to order a cappuccino, and waited for almost 30 MINUTES to get the cappuccino, which probably could have been more had I not come to the counter and asked what happened with my cappuccino. To wait for almost an hour to get a coffee is simply not reasonable. I do not know whether its employees or management's fault, and honestly the idea is not to point fingers at, but rather to bring this to the management's attention to implement measures to address this not-so isolated practice (again, this is the third time it happens to me in this store). Food and coffee is not bad, but believe me that making customers to wait for THAT long significantly decreases enjoying the food. read more

Simply put, best coffee shop in this 3 hour vicinity. Perhaps, I should say cafe... Regardless, it doesn't matter the terminology because this is excellence. Any of the breakfast burritos, crunchwraps, or breakfast plates are made fresh and taste great. I usually go for the oatmeal for a meal item, which is tremendous with fresh fruit overtop. The necessity and ultimate reason why I come is for the coffee, naturally. I love the Vanilla Lattes and the various seasonal drinks, perhaps my favorite seasonal drink is the French Toast latte when it comes around. My drink highlight and the best around in this vicinity is the spiced Chai Tea latte. The only chai tea latte around that is flavorful each sip, until it's vanished. read more

Such a cute coffee shop on Shell Beach Rd. I got the small hot coffee for $2.50, it was a hazelnut blend or something. Very good. Self-serve to a bottle of cream, different types of sugar, honey, sweeteners. We got a blueberry oat muffin to share and it was good! They had some breakfast items listed and I saw some people order the burritos and they looked huge for 8.95$. We kind of wished we ordered and shared a burrito, lol. They also have avocado toast. $4.95. Cute and cozy spots to sit in the cafe. They have a patio in the back and you can smell the ocean breeze. Super relaxing and cute spot. This was my second time visiting Steaming Bean. I have stayed in two small hotels in the area- Palomar and Shell Beach Inn. Every time I have been here, it has been busy, even at 8:30 am on a Sunday (today). However I was able to get my items quickly. I had stayed at nearby hotel without a Keurig and I love my good coffee. So before I hit the road to drive home, I stopped in quickly to pick up rations that would sustain me on my 2.5 hr drive home. Tasty and affordable. I got all of this for $10.50! I hope I can enjoy the back patio next time. Great bike/walking path goes right by there and safe wonderful neighborhood a couple of blocks from the ocean. Lots of street parking. read more

After a short hike at Pismo Reserved we stopped by this cute coffee shop for some refreshments. Newly remodeled the interior has a small displays of local goods and shop attire. I bought a locally poured orange blossom and eucalyptus candle which smells divine but not too overbearing. Not knowing what to order I tried one of their specialty drinks, the Rose Latte. I ordered it iced and was pleasantly surprised by the amount of coffee in the drink. The rose flavor is apparent and not too strong. Overall it pairs well with the drink while still allowing a good coffee flavor. Would recommend this drink to people who want to try something unique but still get their caffeine in. read more

While visiting Pismo recently we stayed at a hotel just up the road from Steaming Bean. We visited on a Sunday morning so it was quite busy & the drinks were taking a bit long, but let me tell you... they were absolutely worth the wait. I had a specialty drink off the fall drinks menu. I have been trying to recreate this drink unsuccessfully for a whole month. It tasted like someone dropped Cinnamon Toast Crunch into my coffee. It was perfectly cinnamony & syrupy. Each sip felt like a warm hug. We also ordered breakfast burritos and a Crunchwrap. We easily found parking right out front and had our pick of indoor or outdoor seating. If I ever visit Pismo or drive through I will make sure to stop in for a specialty seasonal latte! read more

Great little coffee in Shell Beach. Definitely a locals hangout. There are a few tables inside and it does fill up quickly. They do have a patio that offers additional seating. Staff is friendly and service is quick. They have your usual coffee menu plus some extras, like new and seasonal flavors. Also, they offer milk substitutes, like oat. :) The food menu is small which is nice and it's always been good. Not great. They also offer smoothies which I have yet to try but they always look delicious. I recommend trying it out for the coffee and location. read more

What a gem! Tired from overrated touristy eats close to Vespera, where we're staying, we drove a few miles and stumbled upon this neat coffee shop. Good, strong latte! But the best is their delicious and wholesome breakfast burrito! Had their egg, bacon & avocado burrito with salsa & cream on the side. The flour tortilla was toasted on the grill properly with some browning and crisp spots, just how I like it! The eggs were scrambled to order on the grill - moist and not overcooked. The bacon was crispy but not burnt. The avocado was worth the extra dollars. Their salsa was fresh and tasty! Plenty of seating inside and at their back patio. I wish I found this place sooner. This is a cute little local coffee shop that had a bit more seating than I had anticipated. (Worked well for our group of 7 with a bit of maneuvering.) I had perused Yelp prior to arriving and really had my heart set on the Mediterranean bagel. By 10:30am they were out of bagels :-( so I settled on the Mediterranean scramble. My eggs were fluffy AND cheesy... not at all disappointed! I would certainly order this again. I had a white mocha Milky Way and wasn't crazy about it. It had somewhat of a powdery residue throughout every few sips. It was by no means terrible, just not likely something I would order again. The pumpkin spice scone was quite delicious. I have been waiting to write this review forever because this is one of my favorite work spots on the Central Coast. It is hard to encompass in a few words what makes a place so special. If you are looking for a study/ work spot, look no further! Every time I come to Steaming Bean, it sets the optimal work/ study atmosphere. Soft rock music from the 70s/80s plays quietly in the background. Ample seating with massive tables set for two people, so you have plenty of room to spread out at your makeshift work desk. Friendly, cheerful staff that always remembers their regulars. Outdoor seating if you want to bask in the sun. The atmosphere is a mood. There is no wonder that this place can get full during the school year when the students are in town. Don't even get me started on their coffee. I HIGHLY recommend that you order whatever special they have on the whiteboard for the day. I am never disappointed in my order. My personal favorite is their iced coconut latte with coconut milk on a hot summer day. It tastes just like paradise and sandy beaches. If you do not want a coffee, their smoothies are also refreshing. In the fall when the fog goes away on in Shell Beach, I am a feen for their Chunky Monkey smoothie made with chai and peanut butter. Lastly, I am giving away a huge local secret, but they have some of the best breakfast sandos in town. Trust me. You will not find better than the ones they make with each order at Steaming Bean. Stumbled upon this cafe since we were starving and everywhere was either closed or too packed. And boy am i glad i found this place. My friends and I aren't locals but they were super sweet and friendly. The vibes are warm and bright here and i love that they have such a variety in their menu. I am also super picky about my coffee and if you're a person who knows what shitty coffee beans taste like you won't have to worry about that here. It was love at first sip for me to the point where starbucks doesn't even exist to me anymore. I also love how they have merchandise in the back that's looks like their decor. Parking might be a bit hard to find and awkward since it's right next to the beach area. If you're from LA then basically i can tell you they don't really have curbs LOL. we've been so spoiled with sidewalks that it felt like we were on an island of some sort. Why on earth does this place advertise the most delicious sounding bagel, however after going back several days in a row, they NEVER HAVE BAGELS!? Coffee was pretty tasteless as well. This local coffee shop has been around forever. I haven't noticed this before i became a mom but its not accessible to people in wheelchairs or strollers and that's a bummer. It would be easy to make the steps into a ramp... Last time, i managed to get helped by a nice lady with lifting my stroller into the cafe. However, the space is tight and while i maneuvered myself to get to the register, a man cut me off and placed his order while the staff did not say anything. This place definitely has that local vibe. The staff knew almost everyone who came in so I felt a little bit like an outsider (because no one talked to me... wondering if I looked grumpy having just woken up on a rainy day to drive down the 101...) I'm not whining, I did enjoy the feel here and food was great! We had the Spanish omelette, fruit bowls, a latte and a smoothie. The smoothie was juicier than we expected. Latte was good and we enjoyed our omelette and fruit bowls! I think this was the only place that served berries with the fruit bowl instead of a ton of melon during our road trip up and down the California coast in January. Also this was the only place we had breakfast where I didn't feel overstuffed but completely satisfied after finishing off the plate. What a great place for the locals! Whats makes a morning a morning? Coffee is how we begin the day! Every morning we greet the sun with its beautiful abundance and warmth that it gives us ! The views as we carry out our morning ritual are truly magical with the ocean to my right side and rows of little shops to the left. The puppies lead the way as we go go and discover what's going on here. Located near Avila Beach, close to the Cliffs Resort the promise of happiness awaits me in the bottom of a cup. The shop is typical beach wood that has true character with creeks in the wood floor as your sandals clip along. The gaps and fissures in the wood are marks over the course of time that give this shop its breath of life. The feeling as one walks up the wood stairs and through the door are very inviting. The dogs were welcomed too. Many patrons that frequent this place daily were littered at a table here and leaning around over there. This is a fantastic place to people watch and find oneself if your lost. What's good here? The coffee is made on a press with love. In fact the older press machines have made so many lattes and macchiatos that they only get better with time. Let's taste how good my caramel macchiato was. Great espresso richness and froth with the milk levels. The caramel levels were spot on. After a quick stir the macchiatos absorbs into my being, filling the levels from empty to happiness. Now with my caffeination levels at maximum, let's discuss breakfast breakdown options. Who's loves a deal? Right! The pastries here are made in house; and what ever is left over from the prior day they sell for $1.00 each. Bear claws, cinnamon rolls, pecan bread we loaded up on these special day old treats for only a dollar. Just an FYI: the pastries and rolls that we bought here next day purchase we took back to Vegas and put them in the fridge. They were still good for a week with a pop in the microwave to soften them. Pastries either fresh are too delicious to describe. One must try the pastries for proper judgment. You won't be unimpressed. The quality of their pastries and sweets are a wonderful marvel. They offer small quick and healthy options too. These options include breakfast fruit bowls that are seasonal. Come try for yourself. We chose to enjoy the scenery while we sipped our coffee. The puppies lay at our feet under the table satisfied with the surrounding and full bellies they have. Along the rows of shops, never have I seen a community so dog friendly. The puppies need their milk in the morning, and in place of dog food this morning we substituted some bacon, egg, and cheese as their breakfast. We have happy puppies indeed; thanks to the lovely staff behind the counter. The views of the beach cannot be seen while sitting here sipping your coffee, but invade the bathroom if you choose to visit during your stay. In search of facilities to make me lighter, you must wander back through a curtain and around a corner to a small unassuming door. The door handle is one of those old tile glass knobs. Does this room go to a secret wonderland. No, it's just the toilet. The bathroom has ocean views and it's own sand and sea shells. What a beautiful place to enjoy the go. Try a mocha, make sure that it has a double or quad shot to keep ya on the go all day. Rest up and build your plan for the day here. Seek that stillness that we all need to begin anew in the morning. Have coffee for here and then take one to go for that feel goodness all day long you gotta have. Have a roll or sticky bun either fresh or day old. The puppies are welcome, so pull up and stay awhile. The staff are always genuinely friendly and pleasant. The beach feeing is every where around you. Feel the good time vibes as you sip coffee and nibble that sweet treat. When your ready wave good bye and until the next time coffee pulls you back here again. read more

Nice cafe to grab coffee and breakfast. I recently stopped on my travels and got a breakfast burrito (without cheese and sour cream) and avocado instead of bacon. I like how they grilled the burrito, the eggs were tasty and gave a healthy amount of avocado. Potatoes and salsa were also good. I didn't get a beverage, but I've had their coffee before and remember liking it. They also carry one of my favorite brands of kombucha, Whalebird. Would like to try the muffins next time. read more
