Very nice little dumpling place in Madison. Was surprised to find one in CT. Picked this place on our way back from Hammonasset (9 mins away literally). We ordered the sampler plus pork soup dumplings and Nuo Mi Ji (sticky rice with chicken, shrimp and mushroom steamed in leaves - not sure what kind). This is a LOT of food for two people. We had to take a third of our sampler home. We also ordered two steamed pork buns to go. Overall, I appreciate the light flavor of the dumplings. Chinese steamed dumplings typically come loaded with a lot of salt and MSG - yes that makes them flavorful but you are limited to what you can eat and need to chug down tons of water. The dumplings in this restaurant do not leave too much after taste. I love my dumplings with black vinegar so it's nice I can actually do that without getting overloaded with salt. These are all handmade as well. The only complaint I have is the skins are too "bready" for me - I prefer light thin skins. I also ordered "Original Bubble Milk Tea" which is good and does not taste artificial like many bubble tea you get in the States. The tapioca balls are the right gumminess and the tea - you can tell it's tea. If anyone is in Madison definitely make a stop to this little shop in downtown area. read more

Don't go in comparing it to NYC dumplings, but, it's really the only game like this around the shoreline. So, try it if your having an immediate craving or if you've just never had dim sum. The back garden patio is a little treasure. The edamame salad was the standout of the meal with great balanced toasted sesame and vinegary flavor. For dumpling novices the sampler is a great choice. The fish dumpling to me was a stinker, like a gummy wad of fish nugget, but mushroom and pork were quite yummy and the rest were just fine. I'm pretty sure these aren't made fresh, and the prices are sort of high for dumplings... but the high-ish prices can't be faulted when they just don't have the same volume as NYC and are in such a sought after location. read more

A shop hidden in plain sight on Main street in Madison. I drove right by it and then looking at Yelp for a fast dinner recommendation, found it again. We were in a hurry, the famous NY Times best selling author and I, just needing some sustenance before her reading at R.J. Julia, just down the street. We sat, we ordered a steamed pork bun, an order of soup dumplings, some shrimp dumplings and some shrimp and pork dumplings. Not quite a Kosher meal, but 2 New York Jews tore into this OTHER soul food. The soup dumplings were excellent. A bit tougher than their Flushing cousins which I've grown to love. The shrimp dumplings packed with whole shrimp, quite the surprise, in an almost translucent covering. The shrimp and pork, quite the tasty package together, separated by some form of oniony green vegetable, which I cannot remember, but would order again. Time beat us to the end of the order, so I never did find out how the pork bun was, but I'll be back to sample one and maybe more. And the whole feast came to $28, we only had water. The sampler platter had 2 each of the pork, beef, shrimp, fish, vegetable, pumpkin, and sticky shumai. Our favorite was the shrimp dumplings (just like at Chinese dim sum!). The veggie shumai had a ton of flavor in the sticky rice. The pumpkin was a little alternative but very good! It had a fresh pumpkin filling flavored with shrimp. Steamed bun: Pork bun is great when hot. (Things to keep in mind if take out.) Steamed soup dumplings: We went with the basic pork ones to test quality. It's good. Spicy beef noodle soup: The broth was brilliant and the beef was well cooked. However the noodle soup lacks substance because the thin noodles is probably not the best choice when it comes to this type noodle soup. (Personally shaved noodles would have been great.) Shao mai (Mushroom sticky rice thing ): This is easily a vegetarian friendly item on the menu. For a vegetarian version, it's pretty tasteful. This is not up to New York City standard (or that of large cities with great ethnic food selections). But for such a low key town in Connecticut, this is a place that definitely worth a few.
