Tasted delicious. Shrimp hargow was the best out of the three (pork soup dumpling and shiitake sticky rice dumpling). We liked the texture of the shrimp hargow which was soft and sticky. The pork soup dumpling was okay their could have been more soup and more flavor. Did not like the sticky rice shitake dumplings. Bland and not really any mushrooms. We generally like everything we've tried, but the meat dumplings (pork and soup dumplings, specifically) are the best. The tofu edamame salad is unique. It would be great if they would offer a weekly or monthly dumpling special just to mix it up. They have a wide assortment of boba tea, which our kids love. The only downsides are the tables are tacky (presumably from the high humidity) which is a little disconcerting, and the staff aren't especially friendly. read more

Our food was excellent! My husband and I went for lunch on a Saturday. Service was awkward in the sense that our waiter projected the "last thing I want to do right now" vibe. Great dim sum place less than 10 minutes from Hammonasset! I placed an order for takeout online and my order was ready within 20 minutes (they estimated a 30 minute wait). There's plenty of street parking as it's located in a central part of Madison. I ordered the pork soup dumplings, pork buns, pork rib noodle soup, sticky rice with mushroom and pork, and matcha bubble tea. Everything was incredibly flavorful, and the bubble tea was delicious, especially for a place that doesn't exclusively make bubble tea. Lunchtime on a Sunday. Service was very slow and no one came to take our order after 10 min and we had to go up to the counter to ask for help. The server than got our order wrong and missed an entire order of dumplings and never brought water. The dumplings themselves were not fantastic. Very thick, skinned dough and not a lot of juice. Pricing was very good for the portion we got! We got the dumplings and they were pretty satisfactory for a small white beach town. The waitstaff was comprised of mostly college students back from the summer who did not look cheerful to be employed there. We did think for a moment that we were going to hatecrimed by one of the employees, but soon realized our server hated his life, not minorities. The atmosphere was very cozy and welcoming. Stopped into Steamed for a Saturday afternoon lunch with my daughter. All the tables were full but one so good crowd for a February Saturday. The food at the table next to us looked delicious. We ordered 2 wonton soups, a black hot tea, a cold rose ice tea and the $18 dumpling sampler that has 14 different dumplings- Great price! This is a dumpling place so it's limited menu if you want anything else. The wonton soup was okay. Very light broth- wontons were tasty and loved the baby bock Choy in the broth. Broth could use more flavor if you ask me. Hot tea was served in a paper coffee cup with a lid- I didn't like that. Negatives out of the way! The dumplings were delicious. We had the vegetable- the fish- the pork- the beef- the sticky rice- the pumpkin and one other. Can't remember. They came steamed hence the name. They didn't offer pan fried so not sure if they do it. The pumpkin was probably my least favorite but still a very fresh pumpkin flavor. The soy sauce is a mix with chili oil so it's got more flavor than plain soy for dipping- yummy! Definitely a great option in Madison when you want a bite to eat. Try it!! read more

So I am changing my review on this once beloved restaurant. We went for dinner here last week as we do every week. They sat us at 7:30 and we ordered our usual, which as always, was fabulous. The only draw back we had up to this time, has been dodging the alway angry young Asian woman who works there. She is just consistently unpleasant and we are always happy NOT to deal with her and it was still worth coming for the food. However, we came again tonight as always, at 7:30 and we were turned away! The woman behind the counter said the kitchen was closed, after we were greeted, however - we can order take out. Wait, I am confused... I come at 7:30 due to my work schedule and have never been turned away and always tip well. Today we can't eat on a Tuesday at 7:30pm because the kitchen is closed but they can cook us takeout? Their ha gao although pricey is worth every penny, and oh my the spicy beef noodle soup is so generous in portion! The allure of steamer bowls and yum cha was strong on a Sunday morning, and I was excited to see that there was something like this close by. Unfortunately, my excitement was short-lived. It may be because I'm used to the dim sum ladies with carts hawking their wares, but I just wasn't impressed by the sterile feel of the offerings here. Aside from the somewhat interesting soup dumplings (xiao long bao) which are really more of a novelty than a must have, none of the other dumplings or buns we ordered were anything to write home about. And there's more to dim sum than just a handful of dumplings, you know! We tried some noodles as well, and they were lackluster and tasteless. Overall, I think that's how the entire meal was for us. Even the bubble tea wasn't up to par. And I've drank a lot of bubble tea... I may in fact be part tapioca. Again, this may be the best in the area, but if you're looking for real, authentic dim sum, or even a wide variety of food, I would say you'll likely be disappointed.
