Everything was tasty but I would make a few recommendations: One is change the fake butter flavored spread or whatever it is that is used on the texas toast/sandwich bread - it cheapens the quality of your "homemade" food. Second, check the salad mix for rusty/brown/wilted bits - it totally killed the excitement I had to find your ranch dressing is yummy (i.e. not that cheap weird tangy crap many restaurants use) and my salad had ham bits but then it had like a 1/3 bad lettuce that I had to remove. Lasty, even though it's the end of the day and I know you are tired - front of the house customer service is equally as important to me as the quality of the food. It's imperative to be pleasant always and not make the customer feel like they are putting you out or burdening you - smile more at the very least - make me feel welcomed and want to back. Okay, sorry... one more - no one wants tomato slices as their only side veggie option - they were mealy, went straight in the trash, and that's just wasteful for your pocket and mine. There is no shortage of mixed veggies (frozen or canned) and I would be more than satisfied to have that as an option with real butter applied. That's just MHO - maybe the town likes tom slices and I'm way off... idk - I just didn't get it and I'm not a fan of that veggie option. Now the goods - prime rib was very flavorful (not quite med-rare as requested but the flavor made up for it), fish n chicken tenders was a good portion (though I don't think I was supposed to get 2 fish/2 chicken filets - it was still yummy along with the tarter sauce, and the salad with ham bits made me very happy... plus the ranch was quality (tasted like the good Ole hidden valley ranch dip packet w/sour cream which far exceeds that other bottled junk including the bottled version of its own, lol). Ambiance was fine for a diner but could benefit from a sprucing up to more match the feel of the outside of the building. A spring cleaning and a fresh slap of white paint to pick everything up inside. I like the little "gift shop" in the middle giving more privacy between tables. Overall, Steaks n Cakes is a much appreciated option in Blythe where a lot of quality dining options are lacking. Thanks y'all! read more

We ate here five years ago and twice in the last two days. In Blythe your options for restaurants are limited. The food, service, price, and ambiance here all get five stars from me. My French dip sandwich two days ago had lots of tender beef, good fries, and it was a large portion. Yesterday I had a steak sandwich and it was Prime beef. Thats all they serve here is Prime. I don't know where to start with the great comments about Steaks and cakes. Being from Michigan it's quite a distance from home, and hubby and I had not been here for six years, but we returned promptly as soon as we were on this side of the country. Yesterday's dinner did not disappoint. Reese, our server, was just as friendly and efficient, helpful as she could be. Our salads and drinks came out promptly, as did the rest of our meal. Hubby had the chicken fried steak with a salad and sides, and it was totally delicious. Wife had beef fisherman's platter a salad and veggies, which was generous and delicious and we both had enough food to take home to enjoy another time. The country decor inside is appealing, even though it is an older place, sometimes older is better and this is one of those times. I hope we are able to return to Blythe and we've certainly will return to Steaks and cakes. Sheila, I believe may have been the hostess, was equally friendly, and we were asked if everything was OK and it was certainly OK. Better than OK. The restaurant is nice and clean, but the food is really bad. I ordered a chicken fried steak that came with the salad. All the lettuce were old and wilted. Some of them were frozen. The dressing was watered down for the salad. The chicken fried steak was burnt the french fries had no taste. They need to reevaluate their quality of the food. Everything was really cheap. The only good thing was the service was good, but I would never go back there for the food. That's why I'm giving it one star it's the waste of money to eat over there. read more

Friendly environment, seems like everyone who is a local knows each other there. The food has ok flavor it seems to be a hit or miss. Wouldn't say it's the best. Food didn't take to long, nor was it fast to get the order out. My down side is, there is no creativity, or time taken to make the food, it's pretty much half fast. This is a great place to stop when you're traveling to/from AZ/CA! We stopped on New Year's Eve for lunch and they were busy busy still able to seat us pretty quickly. The server were all courteous and friendly. We have 2 kids so it's always nice when people don't mind messy and noisy kids. The food was good, just the right portion sizes for each of us. Left us content. I got the eggs, bacon and toast. He got the corned beef hash with eggs. Daughter got one pancake. Yummy and just what we needed, not to mention the food came out quickly. I ate here for two dinners, because my car broke down outside Blythe and the tow truck driver brought me to what he said was the "only honest car mechanic in all of Blythe", called Villanueva Auto Repair a few doors west of Steaks and Cakes. I had to stay at the motel next to the car repair shop, for three nights, because Blythe only has O'Reillys and Autozone" and no dealers, so no one can get parts for my car same day. Seeana, my server both nights, is a 5 star server, but the food was so bland and portion small for ME, for the price. I left her busy fetching flavor enhancements for my dinners, such as salt and steak sauce. So my rating is 2 stars overall the taste of the food brings the service rating down. I had fishy fry one night, and a boring burger the second night. Cost about $22 with tip. Later, I discovered the Shell station across the street on the 95, has a super delicious fried chicken, 3 pieces (you select, but cannot select more than 2 of the same - e.g 2 thighs and 1 leg) and big portion of delicious and crispy potato wedges for $5.99 at the cash register. I wish I knew about Shell $5.99 fried chicken before I ate my dinners for 3 x the price of the fried chicken at Shell. read more

I think this was the only country diner in Blythe (? & the Denny's, but they're a chain) All Americana typical vintage diner (I don't like the word old to describe it) because it was good home cooked food the way our mothers & grandmothers & so on cooked it. The hash browns were cooked perfectly, crispy, seasoned lightly, but not full of oil & pancakes were fluffy but not too big or small & not oily. I just love cute little country diners, sadly they don't always love me, but not going there. The waitresses/hostesses doing double/triple duty were very friendly & efficient, checking on us several times needing anything or cleaning up. That's a luxury these days, especially now that they are so short staffed. The decor is typical rustic, country, & antique style, and some might say dated, but that's what gives it's charm, for those of us who appreciate that sort of element. Visiting the area for a few days and found this place. from the look of it I didn't expect much. Like most everything in Blyth the building looks fully baked and almost worn out. Once inside I wasn't surprised. it looks almost as worn out as the building. However, everything was clean and the place even smelled good. I ordered a 1/2 pound burger with a salad. The burger was really good. nice & juicy, not over cooked. It had just the right amount of produce with it. It was delicious. The salad was a mini chefs salad but without the sliced egg. (I don't like hard boiled eggs at all so that was a big plus) She had a BLT and said they were very generous with the bacon but a little too generous with the lettuce. (Take some of it off then!) The service was excellent. All in all we had a pretty good lunch but had a bit of sticker shock when the bill came. Restaurants are so expensive these days. read more

On 2/5/23, my friend and I were in town for the rock gem and mineral show. After the show we decided to do some exploring and ran across this place. Restaurant is cute inside and out. Upon walking in there is the slight smell of food cooking in the background. We're excited! My friend ordered the steak sandwich with fries. I ordered hot coco with steak and shrimp. We were greeted promptly and orders taken. While waiting on the food a customer started yelling the "N" word. Stated he would shoot "N's" in the face because that's what he does. While at the counter paying for his order I can hear this guy yelling to the cashier to NEVER change her skin color/hair because that's what "N's" do. While leaving the store he mumbled "monkey". Our server came over and apologized for his behavior which I thought was sweet. Since the guy left and food was on the way we decided to stay. A different server brought out our food. It looked like dog food. The steak was over cooked and unseasoned. My friend's steak sandwich didn't smell nor taste like steak. It came with a mysterious brown sauce. During the meal, no server came back and asked how everything was. All of a sudden the place had a quiet eerie feeling. I ate what I could and my friend didn't eat anything. Headed home and super hungry. Stopped in for breakfast. If you're in a hurry, this may not be your place. It took a while to order but the food came out quickly. My sister-in-law had the ham and egg scramble. The husbands had the chicken fried steak and I had the breakfast burrito. It was a fair value. We all enjoyed our food. I would have preferred cut up potato in my burrito but it was still tasty. I love that this place is patriotic. There are many funny wooden signs hanging everywhere so you need to pay attention. For example, in the ladies' restroom there is a sign with a woman looking at herself in the mirror. The caption reads, "Mirror, mirror on the wall....what the $)(:@ happened??" The food is good, but they rarely have their nightly specials and most of the time I've been there, they are out of most of the food. Very disappointed as we drive from Quartzsite and then are told at 4:00 PM they first don't have their nightly specials special advertised, second they are out of the special they did make, then tell us they are out of other food we selected. No steak, no soup. Won't return. Too many times we have been disappointed in coming here now. Cannot recommend this place because of these issues! read more
