I wanted to love this place so bad! My hash browns were drenched in oil. I asked for an over medium egg.. it was only cooked on 1 side so the white was still uncooked, bacon was all fat. The only thing good about my meal was the pancake The guy who sat us was very polite and friendly The restaurant it's self, very small, gives small hometown vibes (think Sweet home Alabama) Total was $60.. only ate have a pancake read more

The atmosphere is absolutely perfect small town diner, clean, and everyone is friendly. Plus it has the town paper. The breakfast eggs, hash browns, and sausage patties hit the spot. Kids loved the burger. This is a small town diner... for what it is... real food... it's great. Everything was tasty but I would make a few recommendations: One is change the fake butter flavored spread or whatever it is that is used on the texas toast/sandwich bread - it cheapens the quality of your "homemade" food. Second, check the salad mix for rusty/brown/wilted bits - it totally killed the excitement I had to find your ranch dressing is yummy (i.e. not that cheap weird tangy crap many restaurants use) and my salad had ham bits but then it had like a 1/3 bad lettuce that I had to remove. Lasty, even though it's the end of the day and I know you are tired - front of the house customer service is equally as important to me as the quality of the food. It's imperative to be pleasant always and not make the customer feel like they are putting you out or burdening you - smile more at the very least - make me feel welcomed and want to back. Okay, sorry... one more - no one wants tomato slices as their only side veggie option - they were mealy, went straight in the trash, and that's just wasteful for your pocket and mine. There is no shortage of mixed veggies (frozen or canned) and I would be more than satisfied to have that as an option with real butter applied. That's just MHO - maybe the town likes tom slices and I'm way off... idk - I just didn't get it and I'm not a fan of that veggie option. Now the goods - prime rib was very flavorful (not quite med-rare as requested but the flavor made up for it), fish n chicken tenders was a good portion (though I don't think I was supposed to get 2 fish/2 chicken filets - it was still yummy along with the tarter sauce, and the salad with ham bits made me very happy... plus the ranch was quality (tasted like the good Ole hidden valley ranch dip packet w/sour cream which far exceeds that other bottled junk including the bottled version of its own, lol). Ambiance was fine for a diner but could benefit from a sprucing up to more match the feel of the outside of the building. A spring cleaning and a fresh slap of white paint to pick everything up inside. I like the little "gift shop" in the middle giving more privacy between tables. Overall, Steaks n Cakes is a much appreciated option in Blythe where a lot of quality dining options are lacking. Thanks y'all! read more

Great chicken fried steak! I got the breakfast meal and my hubby got the dinner. Just passing through. Highly recommend, especially if you don't like stopping at the crowed gas station fast food spots. And this spot has way better food. Great service and local ambiance is good. It is a place with food if you're hungry and can't make it to another restaurant. The people here are very nice and the staff and the owner are very kind. The pancakes are delicious. This is definitely an old-school small town diner. There are some things that are not scratch made like the gravy. But like I said, it is a place with food and good hospitality. The prices like the other people who leave reviews are really high for the quality of food that you get. I just have to remind myself you have to pay a little bit more for having a restaurant in the middle of nowhere. read more

We ate here five years ago and twice in the last two days. In Blythe your options for restaurants are limited. The food, service, price, and ambiance here all get five stars from me. My French dip sandwich two days ago had lots of tender beef, good fries, and it was a large portion. Yesterday I had a steak sandwich and it was Prime beef. Thats all they serve here is Prime. That lunch came with fries, and a large excellent salad. Might be the best steak sandwich I have ever had. Very friendly and efficient staff. This place is worth going out of your way for. Casual. read more

We had a great breakfast here. Country fried steak and eggs were yummy and all very well cooked. Steak and eggs was also good and their toast was great. Good coffee and unique place to stop and get breakfast. This is very much a breakfast diner, a quick and easy stop on our trip. The restaurant is nice and clean, but the food is really bad. I ordered a chicken fried steak that came with the salad. All the lettuce were old and wilted. Some of them were frozen. The dressing was watered down for the salad. The chicken fried steak was burnt the french fries had no taste. They need to reevaluate their quality of the food. Everything was really cheap. The only good thing was the service was good, but I would never go back there for the food. That's why I'm giving it one star it's the waste of money to eat over there. read more

I don't know where to start with the great comments about Steaks and cakes. Being from Michigan it's quite a distance from home, and hubby and I had not been here for six years, but we returned promptly as soon as we were on this side of the country. Yesterday's dinner did not disappoint. Reese, our server, was just as friendly and efficient, helpful as she could be. Our salads and drinks came out promptly, as did the rest of our meal. Hubby had the chicken fried steak with a salad and sides, and it was totally delicious. Wife had beef fisherman's platter a salad and veggies, which was generous and delicious and we both had enough food to take home to enjoy another time. The country decor inside is appealing, even though it is an older place, sometimes older is better and this is one of those times. I hope we are able to return to Blythe and we've certainly will return to Steaks and cakes. Sheila, I believe may have been the hostess, was equally friendly, and we were asked if everything was OK and it was certainly OK. Better than OK. If anyone is reading some of the reviews and some of those negative comments, they should probably come in themselves and give this nice little diner a try. Hope to see you again‼ read more

This is a great place to stop when you're traveling to/from AZ/CA! We stopped on New Year's Eve for lunch and they were busy busy still able to seat us pretty quickly. The server were all courteous and friendly. We have 2 kids so it's always nice when people don't mind messy and noisy kids. The food was good, just the right portion sizes for each of us. Left us content. I got the eggs, bacon and toast. He got the corned beef hash with eggs. Daughter got one pancake. Yummy and just what we needed, not to mention the food came out quickly. Clean restrooms, plenty of parking, cozy interior and nice decor. What more could you ask for? read more

I think this was the only country diner in Blythe (? & the Denny's, but they're a chain) All Americana typical vintage diner (I don't like the word old to describe it) because it was good home cooked food the way our mothers & grandmothers & so on cooked it. The hash browns were cooked perfectly, crispy, seasoned lightly, but not full of oil & pancakes were fluffy but not too big or small & not oily. I just love cute little country diners, sadly they don't always love me, but not going there. The waitresses/hostesses doing double/triple duty were very friendly & efficient, checking on us several times needing anything or cleaning up. That's a luxury these days, especially now that they are so short staffed. The decor is typical rustic, country, & antique style, and some might say dated, but that's what gives it's charm, for those of us who appreciate that sort of element. It was crowded for breakfast, a little ways from I10, worth checking out if you're driving through the Arizona-Cali border. read more

Good food. Good service. Pleasant ambiance. Good location. I expect to be eating here regularly for the next few months.

Friendly environment, seems like everyone who is a local knows each other there. The food has ok flavor it seems to be a hit or miss. Wouldn't say it's the best. Food didn't take to long, nor was it fast to get the order out. My down side is, there is no creativity, or time taken to make the food, it's pretty much half fast. The lettuce that is used to put on any burgers or sandwiches are just from pre-made salad bags. The onions on the salad not even chopped into pieces, it's just a sliced onion thrown in. Prices seem to be reasonable, just would recommend they take more time on the food and maybe use some actual lettuce for a burger or sandwich. read more

OVERALL Stopped by Steaks and Cakes for an American homestyle breakfast on November 20, 2021. I'd stop here again because it's such a neat little place, but I hope the biscuits and gravy are better next time. ENVIRONMENT It's a roadside diner with tons of throwback 50s and 60s decor with a splash of sarcasm mixed in. Signs like, "Drink coffee. Do stupid things faster with more energy." My 7-year-old read that out loud and asked, "Is that you, Mom?" I never want them to change the decor. Just a deep cleaning and redo the restrooms. SERVICE Friendly, fast service. They sure do have to yell at the cook, though. He must be hardheaded like the rest of us. Lol. MY FAVORITE PART... How thick and fluffy my daughters's pancakes were. NOT SO FAVORITE PART... The grapefruit juice. THE GRUB + full order of biscuits and gravy - it was just alright + two side orders of bacon + two pancakes... one with a burnt bottom, but my 8-year-old didn't want to me to have them cook her a new one + three drinks for a grand total of $33.51 including tax. PARKING Ample, free parking all around the building. TIP Pay with cash. Otherwise pay a service fee for credit/debit. Bumping my rating up one star because I realize they were short-staffed and times are extra tough for small businesses particularly in California. | Food: 3 | Service: 4 | Environment: 3 | Price: 3 | read more

I ate here for two dinners, because my car broke down outside Blythe and the tow truck driver brought me to what he said was the "only honest car mechanic in all of Blythe", called Villanueva Auto Repair a few doors west of Steaks and Cakes. I had to stay at the motel next to the car repair shop, for three nights, because Blythe only has O'Reillys and Autozone" and no dealers, so no one can get parts for my car same day. Seeana, my server both nights, is a 5 star server, but the food was so bland and portion small for ME, for the price. I left her busy fetching flavor enhancements for my dinners, such as salt and steak sauce. So my rating is 2 stars overall the taste of the food brings the service rating down. I had fishy fry one night, and a boring burger the second night. Cost about $22 with tip. Later, I discovered the Shell station across the street on the 95, has a super delicious fried chicken, 3 pieces (you select, but cannot select more than 2 of the same - e.g 2 thighs and 1 leg) and big portion of delicious and crispy potato wedges for $5.99 at the cash register. I wish I knew about Shell $5.99 fried chicken before I ate my dinners for 3 x the price of the fried chicken at Shell. read more

Visiting the area for a few days and found this place. from the look of it I didn't expect much. Like most everything in Blyth the building looks fully baked and almost worn out. Once inside I wasn't surprised. it looks almost as worn out as the building. However, everything was clean and the place even smelled good. I ordered a 1/2 pound burger with a salad. The burger was really good. nice & juicy, not over cooked. It had just the right amount of produce with it. It was delicious. The salad was a mini chefs salad but without the sliced egg. (I don't like hard boiled eggs at all so that was a big plus) She had a BLT and said they were very generous with the bacon but a little too generous with the lettuce. (Take some of it off then!) The service was excellent. All in all we had a pretty good lunch but had a bit of sticker shock when the bill came. Restaurants are so expensive these days. read more
