This place is okay with sexual harassment.
I came here on a Friday night and the owner told me they didn't have any spots for one so to go grab a beer next door while I waited for a table. After about twenty minutes, a guy came over and told me the table was ready. I walked back over and the guy was standing inside, he said "you're stuck with me" and sat down at a table for two. I said that was fine, I was happy to share dinner with someone and chat. We order food and make small talk. I tell him my name is Lou. He says I'm the only girl he's ever met name Lou, and I explain it's my chosen name. He asks my real name, and I say Amy. He tells me he likes Amy more because it's a sexy name. This dude is old enough to be my dad. From then on, he proceeds to proposition me throughout the rest of meal. I tell him pretty quickly I'm gay. He says I'm too pretty to be gay, I should give being straight one more chance, invites me back to his hot tub, tells me he thinks I like him, asks to come hiking with me and my dad and that he'll just explain to my dad that his daughter's hot. I say no repeatedly and firmly, saying "it's never going to happen" several times. I explain to him this isn't fun for me. He seems to get it at points and backs off, then doubles down. I ask for the check twice. It doesn't come. The guy says he's going to pay for my meal and I say "you really don't have to do that." The owner asks if we want dessert, I say no, the guy tells the owner he's trying to get me to get another drink or dessert but I won't budge. I say to the owner I'm desperate to leave (verbatim). The guy says I should leave if I want to. I do.
After a beautiful day in Death Valley a couple of days later, my dad and I try to go back to Tecopa Brewing Co., where we had a wonderful night and meal the night before. For real, go there for kind people and great BBQ. Unfortunately, it and The Bistro and the cafe in Shoshone were all closed, so we headed back here. Half way through our meal, the owner asks if I was there the other night with that guy (the owner knew his name, I wish I could remember it). I said yes and "you shouldn't sit that guy with a younger woman or maybe any woman." The owner says he didn't sit us together, he thought we came together (I guess that dude somehow magically intuited someone was waiting for a table at the brewery next door, got me, and asked for a table for two and the owner forgot I asked for a seat for one) and asks what happened. I give a brief retelling and the owner says "that guys harmless."
The owner comes back later and tells me I should get a taser like he's gotten for his family members. He tells me I should have left, and my dad says I did. He tells me he doesn't think this guy has done anything wrong, and that I have to be more proactive in telling the establishment that I'm being harassed because every time he walked by I smiled at him. He wasn't the guy harassing me, so I'm not sure why I wouldn't have smiled at him. He raised his voice and talked over me. It's incredible he told me I should have reported the incident to him while simultaneously telling me this guy didn't do anything wrong. This is exactly why people don't like to report sexual harassment. Why would I report harassment to someone who doesn't think it's harassment? My way of dealing with harassment is my choice, and I don't need to be mansplained that I can buy a taser. It can be more dangerous and more uncomfortable to make a scene than to just firmly say no and leave when you feel comfortable leaving. I know I can buy a taser. I know how to shoot a gun, and know I can buy one of those too. It's scary being alone by yourself in a place with no service and no one to help if some creepy dude comes after you. But, call me crazy, I hope to live in a world where I don't have to buy a gun or a taser to eat at a restaurant, and in which the owner of a business in which someone has sexually harassed a person young enough to be his child says simply I'm sorry that happened to you, thanks for giving me a heads up.
Also, the burger was over cooked. Filet was bomb though. Always tip your servers but don't come here in the first place. read more
