A cool lil hole in the wall in marrero! I love how it's decorated and laid out, it's a pretty big restaurant and it's clean. The lady who took my order was really nice & walked me through the menu. All of the food was very well seasoned, with my favorite being the shrimp. The broccoli & bread was good as well, I honestly didn't expect the bread to be as seasoned as it was but it was really good. I wasn't a fan of the salmon. It was a large piece but it was dry. I think having a sauce on top of it could really top it off. I found that it also had a fishy aftertaste as well & I would attribute that to how large it was. It's a solid 8.9/10!! Y'all check them out. Def need our food places in marrero to stay up and open. I think this a special they be having on Friday & it was about $24 for the plate.

Well I visited and MAN did I enjoy the spicy fried chicken. The crunchy exterior, juicy meat and hearty sides following by a slice of perfect pie washed down by a beverage of your choose your choice-choo-choosing makes it evident why the chicken crossed the road- to get to Gus's You order at the counter and in my case, take a seat and enjoy one of the many tables in an open seating area it lens itself from one person table, top to multiple people in larger parties. You sit and chill and it's brought out to your table which I think is a nice touch of customer service. What happens next is nothing short of Magic. This isn't Gus's county, famous or city, famous municipality, famous state, famous, or even region famous chicken: it's Gus's world famous fried chicken.

Ohhhhh snap. This place absolutely slaps!!…read more If you are looking for southern Creole soul food that actually understands the assignment and did the homework, this is the place. No notes. Standing ovation. First things first, do not be a chicken. Yes, it is outside the tourist bubble. Yes, you might clutch your pearls for a second on the drive. Relax. We felt completely safe, and it is a short ride from the French Quarter. The only thing in danger here is your belt notch! The atmosphere is exactly what a soul food kitchen should be. Cafeteria line moving with purpose. Staff smiling like they know something you do not yet know. Portions so generous they feel personal. And just enough grease permanently bonded to the surfaces to let you know the food is about to be correct. Now the food. Lord help me. This is not food you politely eat. This is food with soul. The kind of soul that makes you want to slap your mamma, then immediately apologize and say damnit three times while chewing. Every bite tastes like somebody's auntie took offense to the idea of under seasoning. Just look at the plates. It was heaven served in a clamshell. No garnish. No nonsense. Just pure comfort. If you grew up in the South, this will feel like home. If you are from the North and curious what southern comfort food actually tastes like, practice your "Hey, Yall" in the mirror and commit fully for lunch. One warning. They sell food until it is gone. When it is gone, it is gone! So if you want that heavy mac and cheese energy, you better show up early and hungry. Final takeaway. We went in for lunch. I left happy, full, and slightly greasy, with the overwhelming urge to take a nap and call someone I love. She didn't answer so I regulated my emotions with a piece of cake from the girl in the corner - you'll see when you arrive. So don't skip dessert!!

Sigh. Disclaimer: the food just isn't the same anymore…read more My parents live on the Westbank, so whenever I come home to visit and stay more than a few days, I always make a stop here, specifically for their stewed okra on Tuesdays. I hadn't eaten here in over a year, but two years ago that okra SMACKED. It was so good I had to stop myself from eating the entire container in one sitting. This time, though, it tasted completely different. Honestly, I mostly picked over it. It did have a decent amount of seasoning meat in it, which I appreciated, but the flavor was just off. My mother agreed. I also ordered the stuffed catfish, and unfortunately the catfish tasted almost entirely like blackened seasoning and nothing else. It used to have much more flavor and balance than that. The yams were fine, and the seafood dressing tasted the same as usual, but I was really disappointed because the okra was always the star of the show for me. Since that's no longer hitting the same, I honestly won't be back. And mind you, this was after standing in line for ~90 minutes. I will say the workers still have that Southern hospitality, and the customer service itself was pleasant. But while standing in line and watching the workflow, it was easy to think of multiple ways the business could improve efficiency. I'm honestly surprised those issues haven't been addressed yet. If you want to go for the experience, then sure, go for it. But don't expect to be blown away. For me, the wait time, prices, and food quality just didn't live up to the hype anymore.

I decided to order a fried green tomato po boy with a side of mac & cheese. The bread on the po boy was just okay but I enjoyed the sauce and the FGT in it. The Mac and cheese was SO GOOD. I could've swam in it. The sauce was super creamy and rich. Our waitress was also super friendly and they were moving quickly.

The interior was spacious and airy, with plenty of colorful artwork and signs all around. There was a Chalkboard with the specials of the day. From the specials menu, I ordered the Voodoo Catfish (full fried filet) with Crawfish Mac and cheese with seasonal vegetable, which was Sweet Peas. I also got a Cup of Jambalaya (half portion). The Catfish was absolutely delicious. It was oh so light, irresistibly crispy, flaky, and well seasoned. Mac and Cheese was satisfyingly cheesy with flavorful crawfish. Sweet Peas were cooked perfectly and just the right consistency with a slight pop of sweetness. Jambalaya had chicken, sausage, and shrimp. The dish could have used more shrimp and seasoning. Service was solid. Our waitress was welcoming and knew the menu well. Everything was very reasonably priced. I was so full at the end of the meal, I didn't have room for dessert, but would like to try the Blackberry Cobbler.

That's like calling my home "The House of Money" because you found some change in the couch cushions. I will say at least they have the GOAT of beers, Ghost in the Machine on bottle. I ordered 6 of the soy garlic wings and 6 of the Gochujang wings. The soy garlic was mild in flavor and I'm not talking spice, think more like subtle. The Gochujang were full of flavor. Sweet, Spicy, Savory.....delicious! The wings were like a fancy, well-aged bottle of high proof bourbon, complex and layered. That may seem like a strange comparison, but it works for me. I also got a free order of shoestring french fries since it was happy hour. They were nice and crisp. Chi-Chi's is very small. 4-6 seats at the bar and only a few tables. I assume they cater more to the takeout crowd. The servers were really friendly, and everything came out fast and hot. The wings were a little pricy in my opinion, but I would get the Gochujang wings again but only if it's happy hour. Also just change the name to Chi Chi's Chicken.
