One of my favorite restaurants in all of New Orleans! I was blown away by every item I ordered. Reasonable pricing and the food really tasted like it was cooked with love. **Please keep in mind that the restaurant offers a different menu everyday. I would double check a week in advance and pick the day with the most items you'd like to try. FOOD - Dirty Rice 5/5 - Jambalaya 5/5 - Fried Catfish 5/5 - Fried Chicken 5/5 - Fried Pork Ribs 5/5 - Collared Greens 4/5 - Candied Green Beans 3/5: The only dish I wasn't a fan of but I'm not big on candied veggies. - Potato Salad 5/5: Perfect in-between bites of the fried food. - Crawfish Hush Puppies 4/5: Crispy and airy. - Kings Cake Bread Pudding 3/5: Tasted great but also a little too sweet. Every item was amazing. Nothing fried felt greasy at all. I will definitely return on my next trip!
I've finally made it to the new location. It's larger and there's a bigger parking lot. The sitting areas are really nice there's bar/countertop seating and regular table and chairs it's a great variety. The vibes are still good and the customer service is still great. The food portions are still enough to eat over the course of a few days. The food is still good! I'll be back again when I'm on the West Bank
Ohhhhh snap. This place absolutely slaps!! If you are looking for southern Creole soul food that actually understands the assignment and did the homework, this is the place. No notes. Standing ovation. First things first, do not be a chicken. Yes, it is outside the tourist bubble. Yes, you might clutch your pearls for a second on the drive. Relax. We felt completely safe, and it is a short ride from the French Quarter. The only thing in danger here is your belt notch! The atmosphere is exactly what a soul food kitchen should be. Cafeteria line moving with purpose. Staff smiling like they know something you do not yet know. Portions so generous they feel personal. And just enough grease permanently bonded to the surfaces to let you know the food is about to be correct. Now the food. Lord help me. This is not food you politely eat. This is food with soul. The kind of soul that makes you want to slap your mamma, then immediately apologize and say damnit three times while chewing. Every bite tastes like somebody's auntie took offense to the idea of under seasoning. Just look at the plates. It was heaven served in a clamshell. No garnish. No nonsense. Just pure comfort. If you grew up in the South, this will feel like home. If you are from the North and curious what southern comfort food actually tastes like, practice your "Hey, Yall" in the mirror and commit fully for lunch. One warning. They sell food until it is gone. When it is gone, it is gone! So if you want that heavy mac and cheese energy, you better show up early and hungry. Final takeaway. We went in for lunch. I left happy, full, and slightly greasy, with the overwhelming urge to take a nap and call someone I love. She didn't answer so I regulated my emotions with a piece of cake from the girl in the corner - you'll see when you arrive. So don't skip dessert!!
I got the fried catfish, which is my absolute favorite! I'm not a fan of collard greens, I ordered them by accident but they were decent. The food was nice, fresh, and hot ! It was soooo good I ordered it again the next day with the fried catfish, candied yams, five star mac, and cabbage. It was sooooooo good ! I wish they were located on my side of town. I've never personally been there because of their hours of operation, but my service from those who pick it up for me has been amazing !
LOVED this place!! It's a true local gem that you would never check out as a tourist! Although it's tucked away on the Westbank, it must be a neighborhood favorite because it was PACKED on a random Wednesday! One thing to keep in mind, go early if you can because they close by 3pm and they sell out of a lot of things much before that. Their portions are generous, the food is priced cheap, and everything we tried was delish! You gotta try this shop! They were out of a lot of the items we wanted to try by the time we got there, but I tried their: *Hush puppies - No need for sauce because these are seasoned well already. Crispy and freshly fried. Just the way we like 'em! *Mac and cheese - Yum!! Plenty of cheese (the good kind too), a little burnt for that extra smoky cheese flavor. I think sour cream is in this one to soften it up and make sure the macaroni aren't all stuck to each other. Perfect. *Green beans - Is it oyster sauce that's adding a boost of flavor? I have to go ask them for their recipe next time. This was slightly sweet and salty, flavorful and delicious! Apparently, they have a different menu every day to keep things fresh for their customers. I'll have to check it out the next time I'm across the bridge again!
Y'all. This place is serious. The a/c isn't working that great but the food more than makes up for it. My friend and I got the Monday lunch special of braised beef over rice, the 5-star mac n cheese and honey cornbread. Slap your momma, your auntie and your gramma! It is a pretty bare bones dining area: all metal stools and high top square tables. But, the line moves quickly (this is what Piccadilly wishes it were) and empty serving trays were swapped out with fresh frequently. There is a lot of good choices available on the main and side dishes. You get a main like fried catfish or the braised beef and a large side (5*Mac n cheese!!!!), and TWO small sides. Get the honey cornbread. The staff are awesome! Very friendly and professional. I had to ask what a "pepper ball" was (shrimp & ground beef with rice and bell pepper rolled and fried into a ball) and I will be having that next time I go. The only downside to this place is that they don't have freshly brewed iced tea. It's Coke products in bottles. There is also the lady who does the desserts. There is a wide variety to choose from and it will be difficult to choose just one thing. I ended up with a turtle brownie, a strawberry & vanilla chip cookie and a white chocolate macadamia cookie. I had to wait until I got home to take even a bite because the lunch serving was so generous that I will be enjoying leftovers for a few meals. AND....they are open on Mondays!!!! Not just regular Mondays but HOLIDAY Mondays!!!! To sum it up, get your behind over to Gretna and have an excellent meal!

The staff is very friendly and there is music playing to help pass time, while waiting. There's so many different selections to choice from. I ordered the $14.99 meal. It includes an entree, a large side, and two small sides. Their drinks are reasonably priced at $3. They serve everything until they run out of it, so make sure to arrive early. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone wanting to try New Orleans style food. And the plus is that it's all home cooked. I also like that their sides include green vegetables so one is able to have a balanced meal.
I ordered a Biscuit Boat with catfish for delivery via Door Dash. Even after coming across the river soaked in BBQ shrimp, the catfish filets were crispy. The maple biscuit reminded me of my grandmas sweet cornbread, if only it could soak up a spicy sauce as well as this biscuit. Delicate and crumby, like a dumpling you can form right there on the plate. I loved the tender texture of the shrimp and the sauce was spicy but not hot.
The food wasn't good at all the lasagna have three layers but they only have meat and cheese on two mostly cheese compared the mashed potatoes oh I mean the potato salad look like mashed potatoes the cabbage was terrible the bell pepper ball that was pretty good the chicken it was okay $26 I don't know what the hype is but it didn't hype for me today an the guy walking in the kitchen with a pick in his head that was ridiculous I was really in that line wanting to enjoy this food
Went to chicken's kitchen for brunch and was blown away by the flavor in this spot. For about 15 dollars you can have a huge heaping plate with a large side, two small sides and a meat main. The line moved at a reasonable pace to get our food, and we ate at the around 6 tables set up inside. We tried their fried chicken, mac and cheese, collard greens, white beans and rice, potato salad and stewed cabbage. Everything was BOMB- super comforting and indulgent. Chicken was fresh, perfectly crispy with a juicy inside. My only note was that the breading could be spiced a bit more but still really good. Mac and cheese was really nice and not dry. Collard greens were really flavorful as well. If you want a NICE comfort food plate in Gretna, this is the place to hit up.
Fish was fried to perfection. The mac was good, the Brussels were different but nonetheless still enjoyed. The service was great and everyone was patient with us.
Long wait, but worth it I'd say (if you have the time). We'd been wanting to try this place for the last several months, but because they're only open during work hours, it's been tough to find the time to try them out. We finally came here on a Friday at around 2pm. We waited 15 minutes out the door, and then another 15 minutes inside. After first checking out the menu before our arrival, we got there ready to order the fried catfish w mac and cheese, crawfish hush puppies, and bread pudding. Within just the amount of time we waited (again, just 30 min total) they ran out of the salmon, catfish, and hush puppies. We had trouble deciding, but finally settled on a $15 plate of fried pepper balls (pepper ball stuffed with boudin, essentially), with a large side of mac and cheese, and 2 small sides of king cake bread pudding and baked beans. We also added a piece of fried chicken for $2.75 and an extra side of dirty rice for $4.50 and a side of BBQ sauce (70 cents). Altogether, was about $25. Fried pepper balls - These were SO good, especially if you like boudin. The flavor was amazing, and the consistency was so creamy on the inside and crispy on the outside. I expected it to be more dry inside, but it was quite moist (in a good way!). Would not pass this up! (Unless the catfish was an option, bc I still want to try it one day!) Mac and cheese - New favorite mac and cheese in nola, tasted similar to Central City BBQ in my opinion. VERY flavorful. Would never pass this up if I came back. Baked Beans - Good, but nothing too special. These weren't listed on the menu, I assume they brought it out to make up for the lost hush puppies (). Would pass this up. King Cake Bread Pudding - Good! But drier than I expected, but again nothing TOO special. A little more special than the baked beans, but I probably wouldn't worry about getting it again. Would maybe pass this up if hush puppies or the potato salad was an option. Or the greens. (potato salad and greens were available, but boyfriend was not down for it) Dirty Rice - Definitely the best dirty rice I've had in a long long time. Wonderful kick of spiciness to it. Not a big dirty rice fan, so I'd pass it up, but if you are a dirty rice fan, definitely go for it!! Fried Chicken - Definitely delicious, but I'm glad we didn't pass up the fried pepper balls for it. Personally, O enjoyed the pepper balls more. Overall the food was amazing, as I expected. Absolutely worth the wait, if you have half an hour to spare. Only removing a star bc they're not open on the weekends I also feel like the wait could be significantly reduced if they had two cashiers working. Our food was ready, immediately, but only one cashier so we had to wait an additional 10 minutes to pay and leave. Would love to recommend this place to more people, but most of everybody I know is on the east bank and wouldn't be able to drive all the way here for lunch on a weekday. Please consider extending your business hours (and maybe getting a second cashier) pretty please!
Oh my. Stop reading and go. Right now. If you're still reading, I'll give my take but I can't do justice to the insanely amazing meal I just had. When you go, you get a meat option, a large side , and two small sides. The menu changes daily and it's on their website and the board outside. II ordered the fried ribs with a large side of Mac and cheese, plus dirty rice and candied yams. I don't like candied yams, I panicked and ordered them. They were the most amazing yams I've ever had. It was like a desert but still savory somehow. The dirty rice was delicious. Kinda spicy like it should be but anything I say to describe it will fall short. The ribs were almost like a cross between cracklins and fried chicken, but again, I'm not doing it justice. If you could take the best parts of both of those and smash them together, but then season it better than anything you've ever tasted, that's about halfway to a good description. Y'all. That 5 star Mac and cheese was the star. I don't meant to say that anything was less than perfection, but that Mac and cheese deserves a seat on the 50 yard line for the season at the dome. Pro tip, if you can make it work, I just happened to get the end of the pan, with the burned cheese on the sides. They should sell that as a side. Just go. Right now. Don't care if they're closed, just wait. I can't wait to go back!

We stopped by for breakfast. First time at the new location. As always the food is good. I am a cook and I love going try places but I get tired of spending money on food that I can cook at home and it tastes 1000 times better. When I want a bite and don't want to cook (rarely) and I'm in town I will stop and get a bite to eat bc I will be satisfied. It is definitely a vibe and of course the service is great. I love coming home (in town) and interacting with my people . There's nothing like my New Orleans people. As long as this place is around we will visit when we are in town. read more

Visited their new location and also tried some new things! The place itself is absolutely HUGE! Such a big change for them compared to the old location they had. There are so many seating choices for customers and the line is organized in a way where it does not get unreasonably crowded between eating customers and waiting customers. The food I tired was pretty good, a little on the saltier end but it is still a definite recommend for anyone who is visiting! If you are able to, go on a day where they bave their king cake bread pudding, its AMAZING. read more

I loved everything about this place. This place is worth the queue I waited in to get in this place. We order the hen, dressing, cabbage, Mac and cheese, fried chicken, fried fish, okra stew, black eye peas and dirty rice. The portion size was plenty and we had leftovers. Everyone who worked there was kind and seemed like they enjoyed their job. I will make sure to visit this place the next time I return to NOLA. ALS, there were a few seats to eat your meal, but most people do take out. read more

Today is Thursday and I have really been wanting to try the blackened salmon. Every time I try to get some they are always sold out. So I was sure to get this as soon as they opened and they did not disappoint. I'm not into heavy soul food meals much anymore but I can appreciate the creaminess of the Mac and cheese. The salmon was nice and tender and not over cooked. Also for the cream corn. I probably won't get that again because it had meat in it. Not fond of meat in every side. We also got the fried catfish and boy I will go back time and time again for that. Since we were some of the first patrons we were greeted with a very warm welcome, true southern hospitality. If you are looking for a nice soul food meal check this place out. read more
My boyfriend wanted to have fried chicken on our last lunch in New Orleans. It seems like a thematically fitting way to end our vacation. Eater mentioned Chicken's Kitchen as one of the top spots for fried chicken so we decided to head there around 2pm. The joke is on us because they are only open Mon-Fri from 10:30am-3pm, closed Sat & Sun. It says 3pm on yelp but the sign on their door says until the food is out. By the time we arrived around 2:30pm, we were lucky we got scraps from whatever was left. Of course they were out of fried chicken, the one thing we set out to have. We were contemplating going to another place, but with a tight travel schedule it felt wise just to eat whatever they had left and be on our way. They only had deep fried ribs and pepper balls left so we went with it. We shared the Deep Fried Ribs Plate ($15) and got the mac and cheese, cajon dirty rice and sweet peas. And added the Pepper Balls a la carte ($8). Portions were HUGE and it was a heavy heavy meal. Even the rib pieces under the deep fried later had fat. Yikes. Not that I was full, but I couldn't bare to eat this much arteries clogging food. And the pepper balls were basically some rice spices and protein balled up and deep fried. I did not like the sweet peas. The dirty rice was interesting to try maybe a few bites of. The mac and cheese was the best thing on that plate. Oh I also ordered a Koolaid ($5/large). They have pre mixed koolaid in their dispenser and it looked like it was out. I was about to get a medium but they suggested I combine two flavors to get a large. As a koolaid loving person I was down and combined the red one with the blue one. OMG SO SWEET AND CONCENTRATED!! I loooooove koolaid but this tasted like flavored sugar water. We couldn't even finish it. I can't understand this place as a business concept where they only serve a limited lunch time on weekdays. They must not care too much about profitability. The whole experience is too inconvenient and heavy for me to consider coming back. read more
We were privileged to be judges in the New Orlean's Fried Chicken festival this year and this vendor served us in the VIP Bubbles tent! Who would have known champagne is so good with chicken? Well take it from me, it does! We had fried chicken, potato salad , greens, green beans , dirty rice and Mac and cheese outstanding! I'm Sure it would easily have been five stars but it was difficult to keep things hot. Another judge told me if you want real heaven go on the day they have oxtails. Due to the way people camp out awaiting meals from here, I expected nothing less than amazing food. And, that's exactly what was delivered! I highly recommend arriving early because once items are sold out, they're gone. I came on a Tuesday and the line was as expected, however, the staff did a great job of crowd control. Ordering was a breeze, and the food lived up to its hype! I ordered the stuffed catfish with sides of smothered okra, 5 star mac, and potato salad. Everything was delicious! Came here for the first time with my family. Each day has specific items on the menu. On the one day we came, it was a coincidence that they were selling oxtail and that's what I reallllly wanted based on the pictures that I've seen. The 5th guy ahead of me got the last one sooooo I guess I'll never know because we travel back to Texas tomorrow morning. We did order their fried catfish, fried chicken, and fried pork ribs with a variety of their sides such as their smothered okra, turkey stuffings, candied yams, dirty rice, stir fried cabbage, and their mac-n-cheese. Other than the turkey dressing and dirty that tasted ok, everything else was heavy and packed with delicious flavor. Fried chicken was super juicy, the pork ribs weren't fall-off-the bone, but it still had amazing texture and taste. The catfish was delicious as well. Off to the side, they also sell desserts so we got the brownie and some kind of strawberry cupcakes. The cupcakes were decent, but that brownie was thick and diabetes good. Definitely worth stopping by this place when you're in town. The only thing I wish they did was have the option of ordering 2 meat choices. The staff are fast and friendly. This is a hole-in-the-wall type of restaurant so don't expect to be waited on, seated, etc. Free street parking is limited. They have a neat little system to control the long lines. If you see a line outside, then wait in line. The staff will call a group of people to come in at once and there are stools outside for people to sit on while they wait. No restrooms that I saw. read more
I finally made it there!!!! My SO and I were both off on a Monday so we decided it was time to finally try Chicken's Kitchen's red beans. We got there around 11:30 and only had a short wait before we were inside placing our orders. We were picking up for his family as well so we had a long list and the service was amazing. The plates were huge and loaded down with yummy food (no joke 5 plates and a side of lasagna was probably like 10 pounds!). We got it to go and even though it was about a 15 minute drive the chicken was still crunchy as fresh fried chicken. I got the red beans as my large side, and Mac n cheese and collard greens as my small sides. Those red beans though lots of sausage and great creamy red beans. The macaroni and cheese is called 5 star for a reason...I could eat a bowl of it. The collards were well cooked and had a bit of spice to them. I enjoyed everything and can't wait until we have another week day off to venture out to Gretna for lunch! read more
If you see a line when you come through just get in the line and thank me later. This place is a social media food sensation that lives up to the hype. Every day there is a different lunch menu option (mon-fri) and you get your entree, one large side, and two small sides. Monday was my kinda day so I went a little early and stood in the line and so glad I did. All the food was seasoned and that cornbread omg. My hubs who does not like white meat chicken tore his plate up. He forgot to say dark meat but said the chicken was flavorful and delicious so he didn't mind. There is a dessert vendor inside as well who has so many good looking options and she got me with my weakness of yellow cake with chocolate icing. The people are great and the vibes are wonderful. Talk about some good food. There's a reason New York Times highlighted this place as a top 50 restaurant. Popped down there on a Monday. The line wasn't too bad maybe two or three people in front of us outside, but could just be cause it was on a holiday. I heard this place wraps around the block typically. Inside was pretty small mostly just a line to get food with only a few places to sit. Grabbed the food to go and man do they load you up. Each box felt like it weighed five pounds. The chicken was amazing crispy with a good spice level. Red beans is some of the best I've ever had from a restaurant. The Mac was so cheesy and rich I could have gotten another side order. Corn bread was light fluffy and sweet. I don't think you can go wrong with any of their specials. I had enough food left over for another meal. And all that for just 12 bucks. read more

This place is AMAZING! We came on our last day in New Orleans & sadly wished we could've tried more plates. The plates are generous with 1 entree, 1 large side & 2 small sides - which was amazing for less than $20 depending on which entree you pick! We ordered the braised beef, which was super tender. The corn bread was slightly sweet & had to be one of the best I've ever had. Their potato salad was almost like a mashed potato & tasted amazing. This place lives up to the hype! But, pack your patience because the line is serious. Ambience: Located just outside of New Orleans, the unassuming red building on the corner of a residential street packs a punch! Plan to take your meal to go as they only have a small seating area. Once inside (finally!!) you may be met with another line. There's no AC, just fans, so be prepared. The goods: Served cafeteria style, you can build a plate to your heart's desire. The menu changes daily and is available online for proper planning. You choose an entree, one large side and two small sides to finish your plate. You can add additional entrees and sides for an added fee. Base prices range from $13-$19 depending on your entree choice. I went in a Friday, I opted for fried catfish, Mac and cheese, greens and crawfish hush puppies. I added an extra piece of fish, for a $20 total. Everything was seasoned to perfection and very good, though I wish the hush puppies were fresh/hot. There's also a small dessert area, Anointed Confections, she's separate, but her desserts were PHENOMENAL. Service: Everyone is welcoming and attentive and they allow for questions, especially for first time guests. They also stream live on IG so you can check for a line. All in all, I can't wait to go back! I'll be there in March, shooting for a Thursday (seafood day)! read more

I have ordered: Chicken and Waffle 10outof10 The Frenchie Berry 10outof10 Shrimp and Grits 7.5outof10 (Worcestershire) Gumbo and Grits 8outof10 Oxtails and Grits 8outof10 Coffee 4outof10 The Grits by them Self or 10outof10 don't need butter or cheese. They perfect. The biscuit is 10outof10 perfect. Chicken Tenders 10outof10 The Pollo powder seasoning is Great very flavorful and it has some heat. I love it. I bought my mom and sister a bottle. The service is 10outof10 but due to high volume of orders just expect to wait. It's not their fault people love the food. The owner is often there and will tell you hi. This is my favorite Breakfast spot on westbank. It don't miss. In fact yesterday my baby brother asked me if the owner lets me eat for free because my social media is always showing the coop? I don't make it to the westbank often but after seeing this spot on instagram I knew I had to go. I live in Mississippi now so it a good thing cause the food was everything! Then they enticed me with a whole dessert setup. I'm never going to unbig my back. The service was great. Finally made it! I feel like everyone says that but IYKYK. The food was amazing. I went around 2ish so some things were sold out. I already knew that would be the case though because the lines can be ridiculous. I'm honestly shocked they had as much as they did that late in the day. Speaking of lines they know their crowd so they planned well for that. You can see the arrows and all on the floor so you know how to line up. They have a HUGE full menu displayed on chalk board. Also one on a monitor that they adjust according to what is sold out at the moment. You'll be thankful for those along with the printed cheat sheets because all the options can be overwhelming in a good way. Don't worry they'll have something that will appeal to you regardless of your preferences. Make sure you check their social media too because they update frequently.
