Dark meat with roll

I had to try this place once I saw how long their line was at the fried chicken fest. They have a drive thru but I went inside since I wasn't familiar with the menu. It's more of a carry out place but there are tables to dine in. There are also daiquiris which I didn't try but they did have the Cajun eggnog daiquiri available.

Fried Chicken

I was excited to give this spot a try because Popeyes has been my good to for fried chicken, and I wanted something new. When I went through the drive-thru, the food menu was not displayed, only the daiquiris. I like to make my decision before I get to the window. I was given a menu at the window. The wait wasn't too long, so I was hoping the chicken wouldn't be cold. I ordered spicy, dark chicken. The pieces were big and juicy, but the seasoning was not spicy at all. The chicken was also dark and fried hard. That's an indicator that the grease is old. For sides I had red beans and macaroni and cheese. The portion sizes were ideal and they tasted good. The red beans were very creamy. I probably won't go back, but there has been a good bit of traffic there. I wish them the best.

Red bird chicken was a phenomenal place to eat at the chicken was fresh and hot. Very delicious. They had many side items to choose from. Which they allowed us as first timers sample some of the items which I thought that was very nice and generous Brandon and Eric you couldn't ask for better customer service with those guys. I would recommend you trying this place. Absolutely the best if you're looking for hot fresh fried chicken tenders, chicken nuggets, or even salads the best.

Food is great and tasty. Food is prepared as it is ordered so it is fresh. The side dishes are great also.

Ohhhhh snap. This place absolutely slaps!!…read more If you are looking for southern Creole soul food that actually understands the assignment and did the homework, this is the place. No notes. Standing ovation. First things first, do not be a chicken. Yes, it is outside the tourist bubble. Yes, you might clutch your pearls for a second on the drive. Relax. We felt completely safe, and it is a short ride from the French Quarter. The only thing in danger here is your belt notch! The atmosphere is exactly what a soul food kitchen should be. Cafeteria line moving with purpose. Staff smiling like they know something you do not yet know. Portions so generous they feel personal. And just enough grease permanently bonded to the surfaces to let you know the food is about to be correct. Now the food. Lord help me. This is not food you politely eat. This is food with soul. The kind of soul that makes you want to slap your mamma, then immediately apologize and say damnit three times while chewing. Every bite tastes like somebody's auntie took offense to the idea of under seasoning. Just look at the plates. It was heaven served in a clamshell. No garnish. No nonsense. Just pure comfort. If you grew up in the South, this will feel like home. If you are from the North and curious what southern comfort food actually tastes like, practice your "Hey, Yall" in the mirror and commit fully for lunch. One warning. They sell food until it is gone. When it is gone, it is gone! So if you want that heavy mac and cheese energy, you better show up early and hungry. Final takeaway. We went in for lunch. I left happy, full, and slightly greasy, with the overwhelming urge to take a nap and call someone I love. She didn't answer so I regulated my emotions with a piece of cake from the girl in the corner - you'll see when you arrive. So don't skip dessert!!

Sigh. Disclaimer: the food just isn't the same anymore…read more My parents live on the Westbank, so whenever I come home to visit and stay more than a few days, I always make a stop here, specifically for their stewed okra on Tuesdays. I hadn't eaten here in over a year, but two years ago that okra SMACKED. It was so good I had to stop myself from eating the entire container in one sitting. This time, though, it tasted completely different. Honestly, I mostly picked over it. It did have a decent amount of seasoning meat in it, which I appreciated, but the flavor was just off. My mother agreed. I also ordered the stuffed catfish, and unfortunately the catfish tasted almost entirely like blackened seasoning and nothing else. It used to have much more flavor and balance than that. The yams were fine, and the seafood dressing tasted the same as usual, but I was really disappointed because the okra was always the star of the show for me. Since that's no longer hitting the same, I honestly won't be back. And mind you, this was after standing in line for ~90 minutes. I will say the workers still have that Southern hospitality, and the customer service itself was pleasant. But while standing in line and watching the workflow, it was easy to think of multiple ways the business could improve efficiency. I'm honestly surprised those issues haven't been addressed yet. If you want to go for the experience, then sure, go for it. But don't expect to be blown away. For me, the wait time, prices, and food quality just didn't live up to the hype anymore.

Lots of tables needed to be cleaned but still ample clean seating. I had the fish with crab meat signature dish, mac & cheese and turnip greens ($13.39) and paid for a side of fried okra ($2.59). Everything was plated separately, which works for me. The fish, however, was cold by the time we got to the table, and I wasn't a fan of the crab meat stuffing - definitely had Miracle Whip as an ingredient. All the sides were good and the yeast roll was warm and yummy. Husband got the Angus Chop House Steak (chopped steak) signature dish with green beans and mashed potatoes ($13.39) and a piece of Buttermilk Chess Pie ($3.99). The jalapeno he added was extra (30 cents), but I would expect that. I tasted the meat and green beans. Very good. Husband demolished his plate, then started on the pie. He wasn't a fan, and when I tasted it, it obviously had coconut in it and some other ingredient I couldn't identify - coconut milk? - either way, not the chess pie we expected. Would not get it again. Drinks were brought to our table after a short time and replenished quickly, and server was very pleasant. So many other choices, we will try again with different selections.
