One of my favorite restaurants in all of New Orleans! I was blown away by every item I ordered. Reasonable pricing and the food really tasted like it was cooked with love. **Please keep in mind that the restaurant offers a different menu everyday. I would double check a week in advance and pick the day with the most items you'd like to try. FOOD - Dirty Rice 5/5 - Jambalaya 5/5 - Fried Catfish 5/5 - Fried Chicken 5/5 - Fried Pork Ribs 5/5 - Collared Greens 4/5 - Candied Green Beans 3/5: The only dish I wasn't a fan of but I'm not big on candied veggies. - Potato Salad 5/5: Perfect in-between bites of the fried food. - Crawfish Hush Puppies 4/5: Crispy and airy. - Kings Cake Bread Pudding 3/5: Tasted great but also a little too sweet. Every item was amazing. Nothing fried felt greasy at all. I will definitely return on my next trip!
I've finally made it to the new location. It's larger and there's a bigger parking lot. The sitting areas are really nice there's bar/countertop seating and regular table and chairs it's a great variety. The vibes are still good and the customer service is still great. The food portions are still enough to eat over the course of a few days. The food is still good! I'll be back again when I'm on the West Bank
Ohhhhh snap. This place absolutely slaps!! If you are looking for southern Creole soul food that actually understands the assignment and did the homework, this is the place. No notes. Standing ovation. First things first, do not be a chicken. Yes, it is outside the tourist bubble. Yes, you might clutch your pearls for a second on the drive. Relax. We felt completely safe, and it is a short ride from the French Quarter. The only thing in danger here is your belt notch! The atmosphere is exactly what a soul food kitchen should be. Cafeteria line moving with purpose. Staff smiling like they know something you do not yet know. Portions so generous they feel personal. And just enough grease permanently bonded to the surfaces to let you know the food is about to be correct. Now the food. Lord help me. This is not food you politely eat. This is food with soul. The kind of soul that makes you want to slap your mamma, then immediately apologize and say damnit three times while chewing. Every bite tastes like somebody's auntie took offense to the idea of under seasoning. Just look at the plates. It was heaven served in a clamshell. No garnish. No nonsense. Just pure comfort. If you grew up in the South, this will feel like home. If you are from the North and curious what southern comfort food actually tastes like, practice your "Hey, Yall" in the mirror and commit fully for lunch. One warning. They sell food until it is gone. When it is gone, it is gone! So if you want that heavy mac and cheese energy, you better show up early and hungry. Final takeaway. We went in for lunch. I left happy, full, and slightly greasy, with the overwhelming urge to take a nap and call someone I love. She didn't answer so I regulated my emotions with a piece of cake from the girl in the corner - you'll see when you arrive. So don't skip dessert!!
I got the fried catfish, which is my absolute favorite! I'm not a fan of collard greens, I ordered them by accident but they were decent. The food was nice, fresh, and hot ! It was soooo good I ordered it again the next day with the fried catfish, candied yams, five star mac, and cabbage. It was sooooooo good ! I wish they were located on my side of town. I've never personally been there because of their hours of operation, but my service from those who pick it up for me has been amazing !
LOVED this place!! It's a true local gem that you would never check out as a tourist! Although it's tucked away on the Westbank, it must be a neighborhood favorite because it was PACKED on a random Wednesday! One thing to keep in mind, go early if you can because they close by 3pm and they sell out of a lot of things much before that. Their portions are generous, the food is priced cheap, and everything we tried was delish! You gotta try this shop! They were out of a lot of the items we wanted to try by the time we got there, but I tried their: *Hush puppies - No need for sauce because these are seasoned well already. Crispy and freshly fried. Just the way we like 'em! *Mac and cheese - Yum!! Plenty of cheese (the good kind too), a little burnt for that extra smoky cheese flavor. I think sour cream is in this one to soften it up and make sure the macaroni aren't all stuck to each other. Perfect. *Green beans - Is it oyster sauce that's adding a boost of flavor? I have to go ask them for their recipe next time. This was slightly sweet and salty, flavorful and delicious! Apparently, they have a different menu every day to keep things fresh for their customers. I'll have to check it out the next time I'm across the bridge again!
Y'all. This place is serious. The a/c isn't working that great but the food more than makes up for it. My friend and I got the Monday lunch special of braised beef over rice, the 5-star mac n cheese and honey cornbread. Slap your momma, your auntie and your gramma! It is a pretty bare bones dining area: all metal stools and high top square tables. But, the line moves quickly (this is what Piccadilly wishes it were) and empty serving trays were swapped out with fresh frequently. There is a lot of good choices available on the main and side dishes. You get a main like fried catfish or the braised beef and a large side (5*Mac n cheese!!!!), and TWO small sides. Get the honey cornbread. The staff are awesome! Very friendly and professional. I had to ask what a "pepper ball" was (shrimp & ground beef with rice and bell pepper rolled and fried into a ball) and I will be having that next time I go. The only downside to this place is that they don't have freshly brewed iced tea. It's Coke products in bottles. There is also the lady who does the desserts. There is a wide variety to choose from and it will be difficult to choose just one thing. I ended up with a turtle brownie, a strawberry & vanilla chip cookie and a white chocolate macadamia cookie. I had to wait until I got home to take even a bite because the lunch serving was so generous that I will be enjoying leftovers for a few meals. AND....they are open on Mondays!!!! Not just regular Mondays but HOLIDAY Mondays!!!! To sum it up, get your behind over to Gretna and have an excellent meal!
I've heard so much about this place and finally had the time to check them out. Their parking is both lot and street parking. Given their popularity I would recommend preparing to park on the street. I'd also recommend either using their delivery service or preparing to wait. There is limited seating on the inside, so prepare to takeout versus dining in. The staff is very friendly and there is music playing to help pass time, while waiting. There's so many different selections to choice from. I ordered the $14.99 meal. It includes an entree, a large side, and two small sides. Their drinks are reasonably priced at $3. They serve everything until they run out of it, so make sure to arrive early. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone wanting to try New Orleans style food. And the plus is that it's all home cooked. I also like that their sides include green vegetables so one is able to have a balanced meal.
I ordered a Biscuit Boat with catfish for delivery via Door Dash. Even after coming across the river soaked in BBQ shrimp, the catfish filets were crispy. The maple biscuit reminded me of my grandmas sweet cornbread, if only it could soak up a spicy sauce as well as this biscuit. Delicate and crumby, like a dumpling you can form right there on the plate. I loved the tender texture of the shrimp and the sauce was spicy but not hot.
The food wasn't good at all the lasagna have three layers but they only have meat and cheese on two mostly cheese compared the mashed potatoes oh I mean the potato salad look like mashed potatoes the cabbage was terrible the bell pepper ball that was pretty good the chicken it was okay $26 I don't know what the hype is but it didn't hype for me today an the guy walking in the kitchen with a pick in his head that was ridiculous I was really in that line wanting to enjoy this food
Went to chicken's kitchen for brunch and was blown away by the flavor in this spot. For about 15 dollars you can have a huge heaping plate with a large side, two small sides and a meat main. The line moved at a reasonable pace to get our food, and we ate at the around 6 tables set up inside. We tried their fried chicken, mac and cheese, collard greens, white beans and rice, potato salad and stewed cabbage. Everything was BOMB- super comforting and indulgent. Chicken was fresh, perfectly crispy with a juicy inside. My only note was that the breading could be spiced a bit more but still really good. Mac and cheese was really nice and not dry. Collard greens were really flavorful as well. If you want a NICE comfort food plate in Gretna, this is the place to hit up.
Fish was fried to perfection. The mac was good, the Brussels were different but nonetheless still enjoyed. The service was great and everyone was patient with us.
Long wait, but worth it I'd say (if you have the time). We'd been wanting to try this place for the last several months, but because they're only open during work hours, it's been tough to find the time to try them out. We finally came here on a Friday at around 2pm. We waited 15 minutes out the door, and then another 15 minutes inside. After first checking out the menu before our arrival, we got there ready to order the fried catfish w mac and cheese, crawfish hush puppies, and bread pudding. Within just the amount of time we waited (again, just 30 min total) they ran out of the salmon, catfish, and hush puppies. We had trouble deciding, but finally settled on a $15 plate of fried pepper balls (pepper ball stuffed with boudin, essentially), with a large side of mac and cheese, and 2 small sides of king cake bread pudding and baked beans. We also added a piece of fried chicken for $2.75 and an extra side of dirty rice for $4.50 and a side of BBQ sauce (70 cents). Altogether, was about $25. Fried pepper balls - These were SO good, especially if you like boudin. The flavor was amazing, and the consistency was so creamy on the inside and crispy on the outside. I expected it to be more dry inside, but it was quite moist (in a good way!). Would not pass this up! (Unless the catfish was an option, bc I still want to try it one day!) Mac and cheese - New favorite mac and cheese in nola, tasted similar to Central City BBQ in my opinion. VERY flavorful. Would never pass this up if I came back. Baked Beans - Good, but nothing too special. These weren't listed on the menu, I assume they brought it out to make up for the lost hush puppies (). Would pass this up. King Cake Bread Pudding - Good! But drier than I expected, but again nothing TOO special. A little more special than the baked beans, but I probably wouldn't worry about getting it again. Would maybe pass this up if hush puppies or the potato salad was an option. Or the greens. (potato salad and greens were available, but boyfriend was not down for it) Dirty Rice - Definitely the best dirty rice I've had in a long long time. Wonderful kick of spiciness to it. Not a big dirty rice fan, so I'd pass it up, but if you are a dirty rice fan, definitely go for it!! Fried Chicken - Definitely delicious, but I'm glad we didn't pass up the fried pepper balls for it. Personally, O enjoyed the pepper balls more. Overall the food was amazing, as I expected. Absolutely worth the wait, if you have half an hour to spare. Only removing a star bc they're not open on the weekends I also feel like the wait could be significantly reduced if they had two cashiers working. Our food was ready, immediately, but only one cashier so we had to wait an additional 10 minutes to pay and leave. Would love to recommend this place to more people, but most of everybody I know is on the east bank and wouldn't be able to drive all the way here for lunch on a weekday. Please consider extending your business hours (and maybe getting a second cashier) pretty please!
Oh my. Stop reading and go. Right now. If you're still reading, I'll give my take but I can't do justice to the insanely amazing meal I just had. When you go, you get a meat option, a large side , and two small sides. The menu changes daily and it's on their website and the board outside. II ordered the fried ribs with a large side of Mac and cheese, plus dirty rice and candied yams. I don't like candied yams, I panicked and ordered them. They were the most amazing yams I've ever had. It was like a desert but still savory somehow. The dirty rice was delicious. Kinda spicy like it should be but anything I say to describe it will fall short. The ribs were almost like a cross between cracklins and fried chicken, but again, I'm not doing it justice. If you could take the best parts of both of those and smash them together, but then season it better than anything you've ever tasted, that's about halfway to a good description. Y'all. That 5 star Mac and cheese was the star. I don't meant to say that anything was less than perfection, but that Mac and cheese deserves a seat on the 50 yard line for the season at the dome. Pro tip, if you can make it work, I just happened to get the end of the pan, with the burned cheese on the sides. They should sell that as a side. Just go. Right now. Don't care if they're closed, just wait. I can't wait to go back!
Was not a fan. Food was horrible, the potato salad had no seasoning and nor relish just mayonnaise and potatoes. The five cheese lasagna only tasted like one cheese and that was parmesan. As you can see from one picture, there was a layer with nothing between it. I'm not sure what the hype is about this restaurant but this wasn't it. Due to capacity restrictions they only allow a limited number of guests in the restaurant. Doors opened at 10:30 and I didn't get in the door until 10:45am. Bring you a fly swatter because you'll need while waiting outdoors. The customer service was by far amazing. The employees had a great level of patience and professionalism. They took their time with each guess. read more

Yes. Yes. Yes. Everything I've had here has exceeded my expectations and it's sooo much food. Yet the quality is consistent and delicious. I've had the catfish, Cornish hens, oxtails, and they were all perfectly cooked and well seasoned. The 5 star Mac and cheese is really 5 stars, no exaggerations. Since I've been on the westbank so much, I've had to cut back on how often I was eating here. Although it's truly amazingly delicious, the food is definitely Southern which isn't everyday cuisine. The food is affordable and worth the extra calories lol. The only downside is the wait. There's always a line out the door so be aware, but definitely worth it if you have the time to spare. read more
Waited 2+ hours to get my hands on this. Is it worth it? Nah. But I would come back for the chicken if there is no line or a very short line. I think the line is extra long because they sell braised oxtail on the first tuesday of every month and I went on that they. But I heard they might change it to every tue?! Not sure, please check their social media beforehand so you know what they offer. But also don't understand why it takes so long to serve the food, because it is basically a take-out place; like operations is pretty bad. Oxtail is a little too salty but fall off the bone easily. Chicken is pretty good, very crispy and very juicy inside. Mac n cheese is okay. The sides I ordered are meh. read more

Now usually I don't like standing in lines but I heard that I had to try this place and so .. to the long line I go. It wasn't too bad of a wait, maybe 20 minutes outside and 20 minutes inside. I tried the fried ribs, macaroni and cheese, jambalaya, greens, and hush puppies which was a last minute decision since the yams were sold out. The ribs are amazing but the chicken is really the one! Lots of food, plates can definitely be shared by two people. I'd come back again for sure. read more

What an amazing hidden gem in NO! I was here visiting and a local chef recommended this place. Boy, did he not stir us wrong! It is in a residential area and they are open till they sell out. We got 2 meals to share. Unfortunately they were out of fried chicken, but we got the fried ribs and catfish. The ribs had good flavor. The Mac and cheese was creamy, yet cheesy and a stellar side! The sweet potatoes were mashed with cinnamon, the cabbage came with rice and seafood almost like a gumbo, the black eyed peas were even flavorful! The inside is really just a go to order and there are some seats to sit. I didn't see a bathroom. Food definitely made it worth it! read more

Omg, when you're from California you don't know what good food is until you are in Louisiana! Y'all know how to throw down and cook them chicken soooooooo good. I ordered the fried pork ribs, Cajun dirty rice, cabbage, and 5 star Mac and cheese. Wow , the Mac and cheese was the best I have ever had in my life. I normally don't like pork but the fried pork ribs were DELICIOUS, fried perfectly and salty. Truly a great experience with the deliciousness of the food. read more

Let's welcome Chicken's Kitchen to Gretna and it's a great addition to the west bank. Kitchen is packed full with flavor and with a rotating menu, you'll never run out of things to try. Staff is friendly and efficient; great at recommendations. We got the Fried Pork Ribs, Fried Chicken, Mac & Cheese, Seafood Dressing, and Cabbages. Let me tell you, the Mac & Cheese is DELICIOUS. Definitely cop some when you're here. It's cafeteria style, so you go to the counter and they'll place all your choices into a tray and then you go eat! @phidingthefam read more

Wow. Compliments to the chef. Fried chicken was amazing. I had the Mac and cheese, cabbage, potato salad as sides. Big portions. Mac n cheese was cooked to perfection. Wasn't a fan of the potato salad. There's something in the air when you walk in that makes your eyes burn, be prepared. Worth the wait. Desserts were AMAZING. Took a pic too late. So fluffy and fresh 10/10 read more
Everything about this place was fantastic for me! I went yesterday and got the pepper balls, 5 star Mac and cheese, candied yams, crawfish hushpuppies, blue koolaid, and a slice of strawberry cake. The food was great! Service was fast and cool! Ambiance is that of a small business. It wasn't all that, but I don't care about what the place looks like. If your food and service are 5* like this max and cheese you'll get my business! Another person I had with me had fried ribs and fried chicken and their food was great as well! No complaint here and I can't wait to try some of the other items! read more

Ok so I probably LIVE on TikTok, so when I finally booked my flight to New Orleans, I knew I wasn't leaving town without stopping here. I especially wanted to go on a Fryday...so that's what I did lol I've been watching their TikTok for way too long so I already knew what I was ordering. I also knew to expect a line out the door. I got there around 11:15 on Friday and sure enough, the line was halfway down the block, but it was well worth it. It's a casual spot, you order to go. I went with the catfish plate with greens, half Mac and dirty rice, and crawfish hush puppies. I also ordered a side of fried ribs and potato salad with a purple koolaid. Babyyyyy when I say that food slapped! It's not an exaggeration! Every single bite of food was BOMB!!! I legit have ZERO regrets popping in here and I genuinely can not wait for my next visit. If you're in the area, don't walk, RUN to Chicken's Kitchen read more

Yes yes yes! The ONLY no is the ventilation makes it hard to stand in the long line. I had the worse reaction. Someone made an announcement to not rub your eyes bc they're doing something with onions IN THE BACK. WTH??? Ok on to the food. They had already run out of a lot but that was to be expected bc we came a bit too late but I got a catfish dinner (dirty rice, greens and crawfish hush puppies) and a side of fried ribs (my first time trying that). The catfish was yummy as were everything I got. No complaints and no disappointment for me! I was thrilled! The ribs taste like the best fried pork chops ever. I will be bringing my husband here on my next visit and I will be here on every visit thereafter. read more
This is a no frills place. It's a hot line type of thing. Not made to order. I've never been here prior to covid so I only know of it as a walk up place. There are long tables that could potentially allow for casual sit down eating. There are also desserts for sale. Their lemonade is tasty as well, not overly sweet. Their food is so good. They're usually only open for a few hours Monday-Friday but luckily I caught them on two rare Saturday openings. Those chimmy's (their version of chimichanga) are amazing. The colonizer has all the thanksgiving foods that go well together, wrapped in a tortilla and deep fried. Delicious is an understatement. Everything is cooked and seasoned perfectly. If you catch them open, go!! If there's a long line, it's worth the wait. Do check their Facebook page for the menu as it varies a bit. It's written on a board in case you don't get to see it beforehand. If you're dieting, this ain't the place for you. read more
Round 3. I can't stay away. I've have Thursdays menu, Tuesdays and now Friday. Owner recently upgraded the menu with new items. I ordered for myself and some friends. This was the longest I waited in line (1hr), the shortest was 20mins. But I don't care. Food was hot and seasoned well and good. Everything was fresh. read more

Sooooo when I think good food, I think hidden gems which are usually in neighborhoods. That's where you'll find this beautiful place. By beautiful, I mean, beautiful food, vibes (cuz the music selection while you wait is great) and beautiful people. They know you'll be waiting a while so they're nice enough to sit stools in a line. Lol I can't always wait the 30-45 mins it takes to be served but when I do I don't regret it. It's a risk you're just gonna have to take. Every day they have a different menu where you're allowed to build your plate. This day in particular I just had to have the greens (you can't see them for the mound of Turkey necks on top), Mac and cheese, and Turkey necks...oh! And a koolaid, cuz what's soul food without it!? It's a big hefty plate! Like, you're not going to eat it all. I can't leave without grabbing dessert from the lady on the way out the door...those brownies with the praline candy on top are to die for! They're open until they sell out so get there early. Sn: I love how they advertise for so many small businesses in the community...flyers and business cards all over the place. That's BEAUTIFUL...just as I mentioned before. :-) read more

The only reason why I gave this business 2 stars is from their great customer service but the food I received went into the trash- I purchased a 2 piece chicken plate with what was supposed to be dirty rice, hush puppies(the only thing on the plate I could actually eat) & potato salad. The chicken's skin was soggy and looked old -there was a black unidentifiable substance on the meat of the chicken- the rice was mushy without seasoning and the potato salad lacked seasoning as well. Very disappointing considering all the hype this place gets on social media. read more

If you're in the mood for soul food this is the PLACE! Look, I had already heard about the long lines at Chicken's, so I stopped in as soon as they opened on a Monday. You know I had to hook it up with some red beans and rice and fried chicken. The food here is served hot, fresh off the line. They have daily specials, so be sure to check the website to see what is being offered. The red beans and rice I had was perfect and the fried chicken was juicy and packed with flavor. The staff here was super friendly and helped me figure out exactly what I wanted. Even though I was here early, the crowd was starting to build as I ate, so if you're on a time restriction, get here early! read more

My Bestfriend has been sending me pictures of this place for months. So of course this was my 1st stop! They open at 10:30am we got there around 11:30am and the line was already down the sidewalk. That was when I knew I was in the right place. It took about an hour for us to get our food but I would do it again and again! I had the fried salmon, mac n cheese. Green beans. and crayfish hush puppies. Oh and a side of fried ribs. The food was fantastic and well seasoned. I got some deserts from Anointed Confections. The cake was so most and delicious. Don't let the line discouraged you it is well worth the wait. read more

Y'all I am well aware this business is maxed out on their 5 star reviews but I'm gonna leave one anyways because I believe this is the best food I've ever had in my life. I essentially ordered everything on the menu today (on Fryday) and please believe I will be back on every other day to try everything else they offer. The service was fantastic. Everyone was so friendly in welcoming us in and explaining the menu to us - such an amazing show of the southern hospitality New Orleans is so famous for. When I tell you I only paid $50 for 2 full plates and a side of fried ribs plus tip - run don't walk y'all. Again, will be seeing this establishment several times in the future and so should you. read more

Chickens kitchen Finding hot, fresh, home style meals during the week for lunch can be hard when you are short on time. Which is why today's review has to go to @chickens_kitchen. Monday through Friday you can get a variety of options for an affordable cost within minutes. I've been watching this Black owner offer great food at a great price for many of my faves. One Tuesday, I had to work on the West Bank and I was so looking forward to stopping here before heading back into the city. The options were fantastic, so it was very hard to choose. I decided on Tuscan chicken with garlic and herb linguine, corn maque choux and brussel sprouts. The Tuscan chicken was the bomb. I've eaten it many times over rice, but not with pasta, so I wasn't quite sure if it would be good. It was terrific! The chicken was tender and combined with the creamy sauce, it definitely had a nice flavor. The noodles tossed in garlic and herbs added even more dimension making this dish a hit! Corn maque choux is a French creole dish. It has the hint of buttery sweetness of a traditional corn dish, and to give it a Creole spin, we add onion and bell peppers. They hit it right on the nose. The brussels sprouts were my least favorite. They were fried and tossed but overly cooked, so the middle was soggy. This can be easily done by just sitting them in the warmer for too long. I also ordered a side of bread pudding. Unfortunately, I didn't get to take a picture of it because I was extremely excited about eating it. It was delicious. The inside was soft, the ends gooey, and the sweet rum sauce topped it off perfectly. Finally, I had a "chimmey", which are his signature eggrolls. I ordered the "Changa Banga" which was filled with steak, shrimp, and pepper jack cheese. Honestly, I could've done without it. It needed the sauce to balance the richness of the cheese or add fresh veggies. The location is ducked off near the courthouse. The service was OK. It felt a little rushed, and not so welcoming. They could've slowed down a little, especially since no one else was right behind me at the time. Overall 3.5 read more
