Perhaps my expectations were to high. I ordered the ribeye rare+, it was medium. I expected a tender ribeye, but it was not tender I would expect better from a $60 dollar steak. The service was great. The drinks were good. The appetizers and sides were fabulous. For the price, the steak sucked. And I'm not happy having the manager or owner looking us over as though we've overstayed our welcome, after most of us ordered the most expensive item on the menu - and appetizers- and two drinks each. The meal was ghastly & the beer was 1/2 size, at best. I ordered Shrimp + Grits. It was terrible. The Gulf shrimp were tasteless. At a minimum they should consider salt or lemon or shrimp sauce. Anything to give it some taste. The grits were awful. How is it possible to make bad grits? The sauce for the grits was the main culprit. It lacked any spicy or New Orleans type flavor. Instead, it tasted burnt, which is generally not a pleasing taste for a customer. They can't even get a glass of beer right. For the first time in my life dining out I had to drank beer from a small white wine glass. Why you ask would any restaurant serve beer in a small wine glass? A standard serving of beer is 12 ounces which would have flooded this glass.This serving looked to be 5-7 ounces, at most. I asked the waitress how many ounces it was. She said 16. She later came back and said she was mistaken and it was 14 ounces. Perhaps in a bizarro world it might look like that but not in this world. I later went home and tested a wine glass that was larger than the Steak + Vine "beer glass" and I was only able to get 6 ounces out of it. The set price dinner was $30.00. In over 40 years of dining out it was the worst $30.00, $20.00 or $10.00 meal I've ever had. Never again. read more

We gathered here for a family wedding reception in June (approx 30 people) - the staff, drinks, food and restaurant setting were all excellent. Excellent management. Excellent server. (I wish I remembered the manager & server's names.) I dined here on Mothers Day. I made a reservation for 7pm but arrived at 6:15pm. I was pretty confident that we would have to wait out the 45 minutes until our reservation time slot, but the server made accommodations. We had to sit in the front of the restaurant but that was perfectly fine with me. My mother and I both ordered the Sunday special which included a starter, entree, and dessert for $25. We also added on an additional appetizer. French onion soup: 8/10 Great flavor but pretty salty. I ate it but my mom only had a few spoon fulls because she has high blood pressure. Crab cake: 10/10 Great taste. Great sauce. It would've been even better if it was served hotter. Fried Chicken: 2/10 It had no flavor. We sent it back with ease. The manager was awesome! Stopped by our table to get feedback on the chicken and followed up with us after our 2nd meal came out. Meatloaf: 10/10!! It was superb. We got the meatloaf after we sent the chicken back. It was soooo good! The chef cuts it into 2 pieces and grills one side. It's filled with flavor. I definitely recommend trying it. Mash potatoes: 5/10 Great texture but they lacked flavor. I got a new side when I sent the chicken back. Brussels sprouts: 10/10 They were delicious. They're cooked with bacon which adds a lovely touch. Fries: 10/10 My mom loves fries and she was pleased. We went there for our 22nd anniversary, and were pleased by the back room, a little bit more quite. The waitress told us the specials, and left. We overheard another waiter describing the specials in wonderful detail, very different than what we heard. My husband decided to order the special, and was told that it was already sold out. So he needed more time to look at the menu. The meal came, and I ordered the filet medium and he had ordered the filet medium-rare, both had blue cheese on them. The meals came and his was medium, with no blue cheese and no au jus. Mine was very well done, with au jus. Once that was all figured out, we ate. It was good, but not the best meal I've had. It was meh. The waitress came back and asked me if I wanted dessert. I answered and she went to leave until I stopped her and said my husband would like coffee. She then asked if he wanted dessert, which he didn't. After the meal (which was 3 figures), my husband mentioned that he had told the staff and the waitress it was our anniversary - no mention was made, it was an ordinary dinner in their minds. We came here for a Revolution Beer Pairings dinner and ERHMAGERD was it amazing! I'd been wanting to do a beer pairing dinner for over a year, and they're actually pretty easy to find near by, but I found the prices too high and the menus too complex (my fiance is a pickier eater than I). This option was offered for $55 and had a solid, more basic (but still upscale) sounding menu. The place is nice, has a warm feel to it, and friendly staff and is large- it has a front and back area. As far as the beer goes, I enjoyed it, and the staff was on top of topping off glasses of water and beer, if you wanted more, which is great. The food was AMAZING. We started with bacon popcorn (special for the event), which was yummy, although my guy's popcorn was WAY more loaded with the topping and he had a lot of soggy popcorn pieces. Mine was more dry and better. After the popcorn was Karaage-chicken with a beer glaze (special for the event) and a special aioli-type dipping sauce. Everyone got this medium sized wire basket full of food. It was a massive portion for one person. It was popcorn chicken sized pieces, full of flavor and piping hot. This would be a great menu item! PUT THIS ON THE MENU!! Next up was 3 little pigs- pork sliders with southwest fries. Again, WOW. What flavor! I think it was the first time I'd had pulled pork that didn't get it's flavor from a bath of BBQ sauce, just well seasoned meat (and a delicious bacon jam), and it changed my world. They somehow managed to serve it on a "bun taco" which was also amazing because it kept all the meat intact (it's really about the little things), which is a huge problem with pulled pork usually! The fries were shoestring style, crunchy and good too. Shrimp and grits were after this, which is a staple on their menu. I've tried grits about 2-3 times before and been "meh" about them each time. Not these. Again, I was blown away by the flavor of the grits (SO savory), and the shrimp+ bacon? topping elevated it to the next level. My guy is sensitive to shrimp, and ate around them. This was noticed and he was offered something else if he wanted, which was so kind, but not necessary. The attention to customer service was fantastic. Last of the entree portions was wagyu meatloaf and mashed potatoes (which can be found on their Sunday 3 course dinner menu). They made us little meat balls, cut in half and then grilled them. The flavor was right on in both the meat and potatoes. And if I hadn't had enough, I also got to have a sticky cake with chocolate beer sauce, paired with a coffee beer. It was the cherry on top of the whole experience. So sweet and delicious. So yeah, for the amount of food we got, plus customer service, and education on steak +vine and revolution, I'd say it was worth it. I'll definitely come back for more soon! read more

The food was all so good! My husband had the linguini & I had the salmon both great choices. For starters we got the Shrimp & Cheesy Grit Puppies BOTH amazing. The drinks were great. Sangria & purple haze. I prefer the purple haze not as sweet. Dessert everything sounded amazing but we ended up choosing the Apple crumble it was good I think with two scoops of ice cream it would have been better. The service was amazing! First time ordering from this place, food was okay nothing special nothing to write to Chef Ramsey about that's for sure. I can't quite put my finger on it. Seems pre-packaged I just don't see anybody standing in the background cooking this stuff from scratch at all. Prepackaged/ goes in the back door shoots out the front door call it a day I wish I can give it a better rating but I just can't. I won't be back that's for sure. I also read through a lot of those super excellent reviews a lot of them look like they're paid for or they're computer generated nothing looks real. This is just my opinion. I've been to Steak + Vine twice and I have to say that both times have been spectacular. Decor, service, and the food have all been great. I've only gotten steaks for my entree, but I've included pictures of some others. As soon as you walk in you are greeted by the host and hostess. There is a large bar and then plenty of seating in the front if you want a view of La Grange road. There is also a dining room area behind the bar that is very warm and inviting. Depending on where you sit, you can see the chef and cooks preparing the food. There are a ton of drink options as well as an extensive wine menu. (Obviously) I've had the Southern Man and thought it was great. For starters, definitely try the baked cheese and the bacon wrapped scallops. The burrata salad is delicious. The tomatoes were fantastic especially since it's December! I'm a soup guy and their French onion is definitely one of the best I've ever had. It's cheesey, flavorful, but not overpowering. Delicious. My steaks were always cooked perfectly. I personally went for the filet with mashed potatoes. They are garlic mashed and go perfectly with the steak. As mentioned above, service has been great. Whether it was a refill or just checking in, we felt valued and that our waitress cared. Bathrooms were clean and very nice which is always a plus. Meh...that's the only way to describe this place. French onion soup is sweet and tastes like it has ketchup. Not authentic (or even good). Boasts provolone and smoked Gouda. No smoked Gouda was present. Wedge salad was "ok" but who could mess that up. Salmon was over cooked and just generally not all that exciting. First drink that was brought to me; a gin and tonic was flat. My girlfriends cosmopolitan I will say was excellent. Not worth it going here. And look...Im not some jerk that goes into places looking to criticize. I haven't been out to eat in months because of the pandemic and was really looking forward to a good meal. Visited the restaurant during Chicago Restaurant Week. The restaurant was taking proper COVID precautions, with tables spaced properly, yet still provided a great atmosphere. The food was excellent - I enjoyed the Hanger steak off the restaurant week menu; it was cooked perfectly and quite delicious. My wife had Blackened Mahi tacos, and the 3 tacos were spiced just right, and the mango salsa accompaniment was perfect. Our food took a long time to prepare, and the manager acknowledged the issue and provided a free dessert. Overall a wonderful dinner in a wonderful restaurant. Highly recommended!! read more

We had a good time - it seems to be a solid restaurant with a viaried menu, decent cooking, and very cordial staff. VIBE: Not a fancy place - kind of casual clubby. The dining room was decently lit, not too dim. Wood tones abound. It was not busy, so it was conversation-friendly. SERVICE: Our server was energetic, friendly, attentive and helpful. Other staff were cordial, as well. Food came out in a timely, yet unrushed, manner. GOOD: A beet salad was tasty and nicely presented. I liked my parmesan-crusted mahi-mahi; it was fresh and nicely cooked. My friend seemed to enjoy his steak. The beer list is extensive, with many good choices in all styles. Ditto the wine list, with an extensive selection of bottles, and many good choices by the glass. NOT SO GOOD: The only complaint was from my companion, who said the shrimp in the shrimp & grits were fine, but he sauce was way too salty. Not fine dining, but an appealing, varied menu. I'm hesitant to give 4* based on one weeknight visit, but they did a lot of things right and we had a good time, so I'll be generous. Though I probably won't be back in LaGrange in the foreseeable future, if I was, I'd stop in again. read more

Stopped into the modern, loft style space for dinner and had a great experience sitting at the bar. We stayed in the front of the restaurant which also had high top tables. The drink menu featured some seasonal cocktails (themed to rock songs) a solid wine list, and a healthy selection of bourbons. Plenty to choose from on the starters list, and we opted for the baked cheese which was amazing. Great selection of dinner options from salads to sandwiches, full entrees and of course, steaks. We went with the hot chicken sandwich and the short ribs. Both tasted amazing and the short rib was a hearty serving! Ever since I watched Gabrielle Hamilton roast a marrow bone on tv, I've been really dying for some. I've even looked to make it myself. But alas, I did not have to and it's available in my own backyard! Of course, we ordered the marrow bone appetizer and the pork belly with foie gras sliders. The marrow bone was delicious but I wish there was more marrow. The foie gras sliders were good, but I felt it was mostly pork belly. I ordered shrimp and grits as my main entree. That was really good. The short ribs over mashed potatoes was tasty as well. I did not get to try the seared tuna my husband ordered as he devoured it. Overall, our experience was really good. Servers were helpful and management checked in to make sure we were taken care of. The plates are not large, which is fine. I think people are so used to Cheesecake Factory portions which has contributed to the obesity of America. This place is definitely a keeper. I hope to be back again soon. read more

It shares a front door with another restaurant. Just a heads up. When you enter, the front is a bar area and seating is in the back. Sadly disappointing. First, the serving of wine was the smallest I have ever seen ~ seriously pathetic, order something that comes in a regular size. Appetizers of baked cheese and fries were decent. Had high hopes for the entree. I ordered my filet medium well ~ it came out past well done. Even my husband commented on the it being burnt. It was very dry and you have to order a side sauce because it would not have been edible without it. A filet should be flavorful and melt in your mouth ~ not this one. I did ask our server if the mashed potatoes were supposed to be served cold. He said "no" and wanted to remove my plate. I was almost finished with what I could eat of the steak so I would not let him take the plate. They brought out another serving of mashed potatoes that I was not willing to try. One person at the table tried them. I didn't ask if they were hot. I read the other reviews and find that this is not the first time a steak is done past its ordered preparation. The restaurant has been open almost 2 years, this should NOT be an ongoing problem. Too expensive to not get food prepared to your satisfaction. Make sure you order food that arrives at your table HOT. "Make that HOT mashed potatoes." You've been warned. read more

Great service, good drinks, but very disappointed in the steak. I paid $55 for a 18oz bone-in ribeye and was served a smaller, thin boneless ribeye. They had a special with a smaller ribeye for $38 and that's what I received and was charged $55. Kind of like a bait and switch. Will definitely not be coming back. read more

Back to one of my favorite restaurants to dine at. I love the atmosphere, the large bar up front, the staff who always provides great service, the cocktails and the food. We brought my cousins to introduce them to this place. They loved it and I was happy they did. I had my American Girl cocktail made with blackberry. Our table shared the baked cheese, which is ooey gooey fontina cheese topped with bacon jam. OMG! Since I cannot order anything else here...although the whole menu is great...I had the salmon once again for dinner. It continues to be my favorite dish and cooked to perfection. They even swapped out the snow peas for my favorite arugula & apple side that used to come with this dish. My husband had the shrimp and grits and loved the creamy grits and the combo of chorizo with the shrimp. For dessert, we had the housemade banana cream pie. This was absolutely the best end to a wonderful meal. Creamy banana goodness inside a wonderful crust topped with whipped cream. I love this place for so many reasons. Wow! 15 min wait for first table touch by waitress. approximately 8 customers in the dining area with two waitresses, so not busy at all. Had the scallops and bone marrow as an app and the scallops were pretty decent. Bone marrow was lack luster, nothing special. Ordered the pork chop medium (as recommended on menu) with Brussels and NY strip medium as well. Pork and steak were so over cooked that we didn't bother eating it. When we brought this to the attention of our waitress, who was polite, she quickly grabbed the owner. He came back and blamed us for leaving the table for 4 min as the reason for our over cooked meat. Mind you, you can see into the kitchen from the dining room. After our 4 MINUTES of absence, we returned and it was 5 mins until our meals were placed below the heat lamps. Then the heat lamps were lowered to about 2 inches above our dishes for about 5 min. Wonder why it was over cooked. Owner comped our appetizers in an attempt to appease us and swiftly returned to his place in the window chatting with his friends and head chef. Here's an idea, you're a new restaurant, take pride in what you do and don't treat it like your hangout spot where customers come secondary. I don't see this business lasting longer than a year.
