First time trying this menu as was visiting from New Zealand. I purchased a "mini bowl" which in New Zealand is considered a medium to large serve. The steak was extremely succulent and tasty, the salad light and dressed well, the rice helped to soak up the extremely delicious side sauce that I am now dreaming of and wish I could recreate for myself. This place just wasn't good for me. I've eaten here just once and maybe ordered the wrong item. However, it was their garlic steak plate, which is their signature dish. I got the crazy garlic steak plate. It was $16.95, which wasn't worth the money. The steak was tough and rubbery. I chewed and chewed and chewed. I chewed some more and still couldn't swallow the piece of steak. When I finally swallowed the steak, I almost choked on it. It was one of the worst steaks I've had in a while. We walked around the food court to try something that wasn't a common food chain. We saw the guy cooking steak and it looked tasty. Price was on the higher end, but hey, it's Hawaii. I thought this place was fairly good for mall food. The steak was soft and shrimp tasted pretty fresh. I really liked the seasoning and sauces that it came with. I preferred the lighter/thicker sauce because the darker sauce was pretty salty, so I didn't need too much of that one. This place was def delicious! We were wanting something quick while shopping at the Al Moana shopping center and came across Steak Teppei. I got the shrimp and steak combo and my boyfriend just got the steak. I wanted the mac salad vs. potatoes and they swapped it for me. The shrimp was really good! Perfectly seasoned and not over cooked. The steak... honestly so so good! Cooked about a medium-ish. Super garlicky and honestly tasted like Benihana steak if you've ever been there. Only reason this isn't a 5 star is the portions for meat was quite small-- the price point is a bit high ($20-$24 per plate) considering the amount of food. I don't find myself eating at the Food Court much, but needed something small so I decided to hit up Steak Teppei. I've had it bookmarked since Frolic wrote about them when they first opened. I tried the crazy garlic steak in a mini bowl. I was tempted to upgrade the rice to garlic fried rice because I love my fried rice but it wasn't worth it for a mini lol. Next time though for sure! The mini had a good amount of steak. It was actually a bigger steak to rice ratio than I thought. It also comes with a sauce (I chose the sukiyaki) that was very yummy. The steak was done well, about medium to medium well, which is not bad for food court steak. Unfortunately I had to rush through my meal because there was a crazy homeless guy who kept walking around my table .... I was by myself so I really didn't want to stick around. But that's no fault to Steak Teppei... hmm I think that's kinda why I don't eat at that food court much. The only real mark I had against Steak Teppei was the price. The mini bowl was $9.95 (luckily there was kama'aina discount of 10%) which is kinda pricey if I just want a small bite. The regular bowl or plate is probably a better deal but too much food for me. Oh! I just looked in the menu pics... and it looks like a month ago the mini bowl was $7.95. So it looks like the prices just increased. Makes me wish I took pictures of the updated menu now.. gomen gomen lol. Overall, I enjoyed my meal. It wasn't cheap, but I guess I wasn't really expecting cheap haha! After a weeklong trip in Asia, I was craving some steak. I hadn't tried Steak Teppei yet and needed to go to Ala Moana anyway. I went at about 2pm (I was a bit jet lagged) for lunch and there was no wait. I ordered a garlic steak bowl ($14!). They have a plate option for $16 and a mini bowl option for $8. I though $14 was expensive, but it did end up coming with a lot of meat. In fact, I think the only difference between the bowl and the plate is that the plate comes with a side, like vegetables. They gave me a beeper to tell me when my bowl would be done and asked what kind of sauce I'd like. I believe there were only two options, but I chose the sukiyaki.... which ended up just tasting like sweet teriyaki sauce. I saw them cook my steak on a teppan grill. My bowl came with white rice, shredded cabbage, garlic steak and two small plastic containers. One had garlic butter, the other had the sukiyaki (teriyaki) sauce. I ended up saving half for my lunch the next day, so next time I'll try the mini bowl. I like that they give a kamaaina discount. I like that they cook the steak right in front of you. I like that there are plenty of seating and parking options, even when the mall is busy. I'll probably be back. :) read more

Tried the new (5 mo. old) steak place in the Ala Moana Center food court. They have three sizes - Plate $16.95; Bowl $14.95; & a Mini Bowl $9.95. I chose the regular bowl of their Crazy Garlic Steak. They also offer three sauces, I remembered only two of them - a Sukiyaki Sweet sauce & a Wasabi sauce. I chose the sweet one. The steak was tender & tasted pretty good; just a bit pricey. The creamy garlic sauce is delicious and goes well with more than just the shrimp plate. It is really good sauce. I would buy it at the store if they bottled it. Steak was good and shrimp was fine for a counter quick serve restaurant. Rice was cooked properly and cashier was very attentive and friendly. It is located in the ala Moana food court next to ramen bario. There is a lot of seating available however you need to show your vaccination card to sit and eat there. The steak was so tender and flavorful, you didn't need the sauce. But if you like sauce, it is included in the plate. There is also a small salad with a miso ginger dressing that was delicious. So good! I wish there was more steak in there tho! The pictures of the steaks look pretty dry but I promise it was super soft! I was about to be all upset cause it looked overcooked when I asked for medium rare only cause I was transporting it back home. I got the garlic steak plate which came with a scoop of mash potato and rice. I wonder if I could sub the rice for more mash or salad cause I normally don't like rice. The price for this plate was 15$ - cash and card accepted. I guess this pretty normal considering that this was in ala Moana food court. They're located towards the end where sabarro is. It was our last night so I wanted steak since I have been having quite a bit of the local dishes. So as usual, before I dig in, I take a picture because I am that person. The combo plate is worthwhile trying when you are exhausted hanging around Ala Moana Gigantic Shopping center. It was a spontaneous stop by and had no idea what to order first. I browsed their menus which is so helpful for non-native english speaker in terms of coming with pictures of their plates. Then I picked out their most favorite Combo plate(*attached pic)... The meat itself was TENDERand JUICY and it's way out of Food Court level. Also several kinds of sources perfectly harmonized with the steak. I highly recommend that you should try the combo plate if you're not sure for lunch. You won't regret! P.S: after first visiting, I became addicted and bought "to go plates" for my coworkers. [SERVICE] The female worker did a great job explaining the menu and the difference between sizes especially when it came to the garlic shrimp (the mini bowl comes with 4 pieces, while the regular bowl and plate comes with 8 pieces with the only difference you get more sides with the plate). [FOOD] The food is little bit on the pricey side though we are definitely fans of the CRAZY GARLIC STEAK and the CREAMY GARLIC SHRIMP. We were disappointed that when we went the white rice was on the soggy side and the garlic fried rice upgrade didn't really have any noticeable garlic flavor. I really had high hopes of this place but Im so sad that they were a disappoint! The best thing about this place is the customer service we got from Kaycee. He was so nice and greeted us right away. He also took his time explaining the menu because it was our first time there. I ordered the mini loco moco bowl with a demi glaze (sweet japanese sauce, has a tomato flavor) and garlic fried rice. The garlic fried rice is an additional $2.50 which I did not agree on because you don't taste garlic at all because there's so much egg that it overpowers the flavor. The fried rice was also bland, I should've just had the white rice and save $2.50. My boyfriend ordered the crazy garlic steak bowl and he wasn't satisfied as well. I love it soo much!, especially with the yellow sauce that they have. According to the other reviews it's a mustard sauce. The pork was really juicy and seasoned perfectly. The first couple times Ive gotten it too rare for my liking so I just let them know the temp I want and it's been on point ! I ask for medium well and some times some of the meat is a little chewy but for the most part it's been very tender and not tough. I like that they cube the meat and there isn't too much fat. I also love that I can ask them to not put seasoning or salt on the meat! When you get the garlic steak you can choose the sauce and it's salty enough that it gives lots of good flavor when you eat with the steak! Love love the shoyu garlic sauce sooo much garlic! Love it on the rice too. Recently tried the steak and shrimp combo plate $20 and loved it! It comes with a creamy garlic sauce in addition to the shoyu garlic sauce I think for the shrimps but you don't really need beacuse in the plate there was actually a thin creamy mayo sauce on the bottom where the cabbage is and that sauce was also on the shrimps and it was sooo yummy too! Not too salty and it was good with the cabbage like a dressing! Shrimp was tender and you can choose a side of veges or Mac salad. It was just sooo good and I was fully satisfied! The wait isn't too long and they give you a buzzer thing to let you know when your order is ready. I'd would be nice if they gave kamaaina discount like next door at the ramen shop.. lol the all steak plate is $22 and the mini steak bowl is $13. Super busy since they just opened. I'm grateful for giving out pagers to know when to come back. The differences as explained to me between bowls and plates was mainly the amount of sides that you got along with your steak. I went with the garlic steak as it seemed that is what they were known for. This new Japanese steak plate take out at the Ala Moana Center Makai food court is pretty good. If you love garlic, even better. Served up hot and fresh, you can get a filling and tasty meal here. It isn't just steak though. There is shrimp as well. They have decent sized shrimp cooked top perfection in a buttery garlic sauce. All dishes come with sides to fill you up and balanced to go with your entre. They also offer an assortment of dipping sauces as well to liven up your dish, but it is so flavorful already, you really don't need them. All the same, get a few sauces just to try. Now they do use a lot of garlic and that is their thing, so if you aren't a fan of garlic or work closely with people like in sales, you might want to make sure you have some breath mints or brush your teeth right after. read more

Downside - the shrimp had to be shelled - which probably retains flavor and juiciness but very hard to eat in a food court. I saw a feature of them on the morning news & was excited to check this place out. I went on a weekday & it took 30 min for my steak/shrimp combo plate! I know how long it took because my receipt said 10:45 & by 11:20 I was getting irritated because I was the only one standing around waiting. I went up to the cashier to check on it because the people that ordered after me got their food already. He said it'd be right out. Ugh! So, while standing there & waiting for half an hour, I watched how things went down. The cashier, he was very nice to me & every customer after me. He explained their menu & different options they offer. Like most, I read yelp reviews before hand & saw some yelpers mention how the steak wasn't hot like the rest of food in their plate. Well, I saw them make 3 platters worth of steaks within ~10 min. They had 2 cooks working on steaks. They'd cook it, cut it up & place it on a silver platter, then hand it to the female who was packing the plates before they were handed out. Did I mention it was 3 platters worth? Ok, so, you'd think it was made to order right? By the time I got my plate there was still 2 platters left of steak that's been sitting there for ~20 min or so. I couldn't see if it's on a warmer or anything. My garlic steak/shrimp plate came with 4 pieces of shrimp & 7 pieces of steak, white rice, mashed potatoes & sukiyaki sweet sauce for $14.95. I also got a complimentary miso soup for the long wait. The food was tasty... but, I wasn't satisfied. I would've been more pleased if it was hot & maybe if you could request how you want it cooked. I'll include pics of how "done" my steaks were. The sauces were pretty good. There were 3 different sauces on there: the one I chose, sukiyaki sweet sauce & Idk what the other 2 were. I was at the mall so decided to stop by one of the newest restaurant at the makai food court Steak Teppei. I ordered the Crazy Garlic Steak plate and a large drink. I had a choice of two sides and chose rice and macaroni salad. The other choices were mashed potato and mixed vegetables. Your order is cooked in front of you as they have three grills set up along the counter. They give you a pager when you pay to let you know when your order is ready.
