Y'all would think this is a random steak place at a mall, but this is farrrrr from that. Steak Teppai offers your classic steak and cuts of Wagyu as if you were at an actual teppanyaki place. I will say that the price points are pretty high, but you get what you pay for. They have the wagyu steak bites at $38.99, but I opted for the Garlic Steak Bites at $28.99 for a "cheaper" alternative. It was extremely tender and juicy! Cooked medium. They know what they doing on that stove for real and I feel like the cuts of meat were great quality. You get a side salad with their Japanese miso dressing. I will say it's a bit salty though for my liking. Next time I'm back on the island I'm definitely coming back to the mall just for this!
Located Ii n the food court in Ala Moana shopping center, Steak Teppei is definitely for all who live surf and turf. Steak is cooked to perfection, and perfect rice to meat ratio. Paid a little more than I expected to, but you do get what you pay for. Service is friendly and quick, steak is made to order, so maybe a 10 minute wait time for food. If you go wirh a friend, tag team to find a table, it can get quite busy in the food court. You'd pay twice as much if steak was plated at a sit down restaurant.
It was my first time for take out prices a bit high but outstanding steak cubes and garlic shrimp! Choice of dipping sauce included no need steak was just enough seasoning perfectly grilled right after my order. Shrimp was alright with the shells perfectly decorated in the plate lunch with greens.. Amazingly placed was a tiny plastic between the rice and sauce! Their rice cooked to perfection if one wants Japanese grain of rice. May say I highly recommend it to try their outstanding grilled steak thst has been for a while but I choose other options but I'll be back when I crave for steak! This is the place to go! They place a fresh orchid on the tip of my steak and garlic shrimp...! Perfectly Aloha!
Don't look at the price and be scared. You're in Hawaii and in the Waikiki area. This price point is relatively reasonable in comparison to the price point of items in the area. I can't attest to whether this is truly wagyu beef or not but it was tender and flavorful as heck. I usually HATE Japanese salads because the dressings always fall flat for me but the dressing was so good, I am still craving it nearly a month later. The shrimp was also lovely and flavorful but I'd probably go full on steak instead, if I ever get the chance to have it again. Service was quick as surprisingly, I was the only person buying; I think most people were scared of the price point but it was worth it. They packaged the plate so carefully and beautifully. Wish I was eating this right now.
Long overdue, as I've been a happy customer for years now. This hidden gem is located in the Ala Moana food court, towards the back side near chick-fil-a. My go to order is the garlic steak plate with garlic punch sauce. Let me just say, the spices and the garlic sauce really makes the steak taste soo good. This is by far the best steak plate to-go spot. For being located in a food court this is definitely a top contender. Blazin Steaks has nothing on them. I live in the windward side of the island and will take a drive down to town just to come here. (I hate driving to town so you know it's that delicious). On top of that the service is amazing and the owner is very friendly. They also have a rewards program when you enter your phone at checkout, and with x amount of points you get a free steak plate. ***You must try this eatery!***
Amazing how times have changed and all these new eating places are showing up in the mall food courts! Steak Teppei where wagyu steaks and shrimo is served, 4oz, 8oz and 16oz. Plates are on the pricey side and food is made to order. Lots of seats to eat your food. I didn't know what to get because it was my first time here so I got the wagyu bowl. 4oz of steak . Yummy, what a great snack, it came with a bowl of rice and some toss salad. And you have a choice of a variety of dressing. This steak is not something I would eat all the time only because it's pricey. But it's good.
Great spot for surf and turf! We did the 4oz garlic rib eye steak and cream garlic shrimp combi $24.95 upgrade for 8oz for $30.95 but i decided to get a side of karaage chicken Everything was tasty and we were happy with our choice Liked how they put a plastic barrier between rice and protein in the plate Served with a great helping of spring mix and it was a great meal for me and my 2 kids
Don't be fooled by the location, for food court food this was my favorite! I ordered the #1 Garlic Ribeye 4 oz Steak w/ Cream Garlic Shrimp and it was delectable! The meat portion was tender, seasoned well and was a perfect amount and they gave more shrimp than I was expecting. The creamy garlic sauce paired well with the shrimp and the steak sauce gave the meat an extra kick of flavor. The order was about $25 which was high for food court food but the quality was top notch. The service was good and the area was clean. There was a lot of open seating available, restrooms nearby and other variety of food options nearby. It is located in the food court on the first floor in the Ala Moana Center where parking is free! If you're in the area I highly recommend checking this place out!
Great soft flavorful ribeye steak. Stop reading/start eating!!!!! :). Get sweet sauce to dip in (although no sauce needed to taste good)
Meat was perfectly cooked in medium, also tender and well-seasoned. I didn't like the garlic sauce I chose that much; I thought the meat was already tasty by itself. A lil pricey for the amount of steak and salad but I would still go back haha
We don't venture into town often. Maybe once a month for an appointment or dinner. Or if the kids are visiting, they like spending the day at Ala Moana. A highlight for us is grabbing a plate at Steak Teppei in the Makai Market food court (level 1). Even if we're in town for dinner reservations, we'll still make it a point to come here and pick up a plate for a later meal. I always get the same plate. Although I've been wanting to try more, I am usually short on time and don't want to dwell on a decision! Lol. To start with, the employees here are super helpful and thoughtful. They put a smile on my granddaughter's face with a lollipop on a recent visit. In the many times we've been here, we've always had a pleasant experience. But the food... totally not what you expect from a mall food court establishment. Upon ordering, you get a buzzy disk to let you know when your food is ready. Typically it's 10 minutes. The steak is cooked perfectly medium. It's tender and flavorful as is. The shrimp is shelled and cooked perfect as well. They include a seasoning mix and 2 sauces. The garlic sauce is straight up bomb!! And adding a sprinkle of the seasoning mix to each bite is roll-your-eyes-to-the-back-of-your-head good. Bonus they have brown rice for a couple extra bones. The downside is the portion... for a Jackson, you don't get all that much. It's actually a meal I could finish in one sitting if I'm hungry enough... that's from someone who typically eats kid meal sizes. BUT the food is so good and the employees are so pleasant, they get all 5 stars. When I came home with the kids one time, hubs got a bit sad because although I brought home the extra sauce I had (cuz it's that good and I knew he'd love to use it), he was bummed he missed out. From then on, I always got an extra plate whether he was with us or not. Again, it's that good.
To preface I have never ate at the actual location... I have had delivery from here multiple times and love the karaage chicken with the garlic sauce! Its fantastic! Perfectly breaded and fried, nice and crunchy and the sauce has just the right amount of tang. Not a bad choice at all! Reasonable pricing even on door dash! Well worth it!
Steak Teppei is kind of what you would expect. It's a little pricey, the meat is a little low quality, and it comes with a lot of starch. I ordered the steak and shrimp. The seasoning wasn't particularly impressive. It just tasted salty. I liked that there was some sort of garlicy shoyu based sauce to dip the steak in though. read more

Located inside Ala Moana mall food court in the corner right. We ate here about three different times in the span of one week. That's how good this dish was. We always ordered the steak and shrimp. I loved their garlic salad dressing. Even used it to dip my shrimp in some extra garlic sauce. The steak was juicy and cooked perfectly. This dish comes with an ample amount of rice and salad. I was truly blown away by the taste and the quality of the food served here inside the food court. Like I said we ate here three times in one week. I would definitely go back here again. Side note: of the three times we ate here, one time our food took longer than expected but the other two times they were able to provide our food quickly without too long of a wait. read more
This place just wasn't good for me. I've eaten here just once and maybe ordered the wrong item. However, it was their garlic steak plate, which is their signature dish. I got the crazy garlic steak plate. It was $16.95, which wasn't worth the money. The steak was tough and rubbery. I chewed and chewed and chewed. I chewed some more and still couldn't swallow the piece of steak. When I finally swallowed the steak, I almost choked on it. It was one of the worst steaks I've had in a while. You could probably make better steak at home. I don't know what else to tell you. I'm brutally honest with my reviews. This place is located at the Makai Market food court, next to Ramen Bario. They do offer a 10% kamaaina discount. read more

I thought this place was fairly good for mall food. The steak was soft and shrimp tasted pretty fresh. I really liked the seasoning and sauces that it came with. I preferred the lighter/thicker sauce because the darker sauce was pretty salty, so I didn't need too much of that one. However, there was a ton of cabbage that I didn't really care for but I'm sure it's more for aesthetic purposes. read more

This place was def delicious! We were wanting something quick while shopping at the Al Moana shopping center and came across Steak Teppei. I got the shrimp and steak combo and my boyfriend just got the steak. I wanted the mac salad vs. potatoes and they swapped it for me. The shrimp was really good! Perfectly seasoned and not over cooked. The steak... honestly so so good! Cooked about a medium-ish. Super garlicky and honestly tasted like Benihana steak if you've ever been there. Only reason this isn't a 5 star is the portions for meat was quite small-- the price point is a bit high ($20-$24 per plate) considering the amount of food. It looks like there's more food since it's sitting on top of cabbage. Maybe you get a solid 4.5 oz of meat. read more

I don't find myself eating at the Food Court much, but needed something small so I decided to hit up Steak Teppei. I've had it bookmarked since Frolic wrote about them when they first opened. I tried the crazy garlic steak in a mini bowl. I was tempted to upgrade the rice to garlic fried rice because I love my fried rice but it wasn't worth it for a mini lol. Next time though for sure! The mini had a good amount of steak. It was actually a bigger steak to rice ratio than I thought. It also comes with a sauce (I chose the sukiyaki) that was very yummy. The steak was done well, about medium to medium well, which is not bad for food court steak. Unfortunately I had to rush through my meal because there was a crazy homeless guy who kept walking around my table .... I was by myself so I really didn't want to stick around. But that's no fault to Steak Teppei... hmm I think that's kinda why I don't eat at that food court much. The only real mark I had against Steak Teppei was the price. The mini bowl was $9.95 (luckily there was kama'aina discount of 10%) which is kinda pricey if I just want a small bite. The regular bowl or plate is probably a better deal but too much food for me. Oh! I just looked in the menu pics... and it looks like a month ago the mini bowl was $7.95. So it looks like the prices just increased. Makes me wish I took pictures of the updated menu now.. gomen gomen lol. Overall, I enjoyed my meal. It wasn't cheap, but I guess I wasn't really expecting cheap haha! I'll likely be back.. next time I'm in the mall and hungry. read more

After a weeklong trip in Asia, I was craving some steak. I hadn't tried Steak Teppei yet and needed to go to Ala Moana anyway. I went at about 2pm (I was a bit jet lagged) for lunch and there was no wait. I ordered a garlic steak bowl ($14!). They have a plate option for $16 and a mini bowl option for $8. I though $14 was expensive, but it did end up coming with a lot of meat. In fact, I think the only difference between the bowl and the plate is that the plate comes with a side, like vegetables. They gave me a beeper to tell me when my bowl would be done and asked what kind of sauce I'd like. I believe there were only two options, but I chose the sukiyaki.... which ended up just tasting like sweet teriyaki sauce. I saw them cook my steak on a teppan grill. My bowl came with white rice, shredded cabbage, garlic steak and two small plastic containers. One had garlic butter, the other had the sukiyaki (teriyaki) sauce. I ended up saving half for my lunch the next day, so next time I'll try the mini bowl. I like that they give a kamaaina discount. I like that they cook the steak right in front of you. I like that there are plenty of seating and parking options, even when the mall is busy. I'll probably be back. :) read more
Tried the new (5 mo. old) steak place in the Ala Moana Center food court. They have three sizes - Plate $16.95; Bowl $14.95; & a Mini Bowl $9.95. I chose the regular bowl of their Crazy Garlic Steak. They also offer three sauces, I remembered only two of them - a Sukiyaki Sweet sauce & a Wasabi sauce. I chose the sweet one. The steak was tender & tasted pretty good; just a bit pricey. They do give a 10% Kama'aina discount that helped a little. read more

I've heard the food was good a long time ago so we finally tried it. We ordered the crazy garlic steak plate and the chicken Katy plate. I was a little skeptical since the steak plate was so expensive but after eating it, it is totally WORTH IT. We waited approximately 15 mins after ordering. We were the last order before they closed. It is located in the ala Moana food court next to ramen bario. There is a lot of seating available however you need to show your vaccination card to sit and eat there. The steak was so tender and flavorful, you didn't need the sauce. But if you like sauce, it is included in the plate. There is also a small salad with a miso ginger dressing that was delicious. The chicken katsu is just okay. If you're trying this place for the first time, get the steak plate. read more
The creamy garlic sauce is delicious and goes well with more than just the shrimp plate. It is really good sauce. I would buy it at the store if they bottled it. Steak was good and shrimp was fine for a counter quick serve restaurant. Rice was cooked properly and cashier was very attentive and friendly. If you're in the mood for a rice and shrimp and steak plate teppan style this is the place. read more
So good! I wish there was more steak in there tho! The pictures of the steaks look pretty dry but I promise it was super soft! I was about to be all upset cause it looked overcooked when I asked for medium rare only cause I was transporting it back home. I got the garlic steak plate which came with a scoop of mash potato and rice. I wonder if I could sub the rice for more mash or salad cause I normally don't like rice. The price for this plate was 15$ - cash and card accepted. I guess this pretty normal considering that this was in ala Moana food court. They're located towards the end where sabarro is. Service was super friendly and the wait time wasn't all that bad. I was in and out of the mall within 20 mins. It was pretty fun watching them prepare your meals in front of you. The glass got kinda oily and was hard to see through but the place is pretty clean. read more
The other day I ordered Beef Steak Curry with side order of Garlic Steak. I was watching the cook how he made my food. Disgusting! He didn't even cook enough my steak, it was raw not even raw, uncooked. My beef Steak Curry.... steak were hard and tough like rock. I want my money back. I never go back again unless the company retrain the cook. He seems to be no experience as cook. So disgusting!!! read more
I ordered thru Door dash and I really didn't mind the wait since I am on vacation. I was very hungry when it arrived though. It was our last night so I wanted steak since I have been having quite a bit of the local dishes. So as usual, before I dig in, I take a picture because I am that person. I take a bite and wow it was so good. I loved the cabbage, I love the meat, I love the sauces. But wait.. what is that?!!! THERE WAS A COCKROACH ON MY BED OF CABBAGE. When I tell you how mad and angry I was. I have already eaten 4 bites before I saw my tiny friend deadass chillin on my veggie. C'mon!! I was so hangry and pissed. Even my husband did not finish his shrimp and steak combo bec how could you after seeing that!! Thankfully doordash refunded our food and it went straight to the trash. Food tasted great maybe bec of the cockroach. Idk. Cut the cabbage fresh guys c'mon. read more

[SERVICE] The female worker did a great job explaining the menu and the difference between sizes especially when it came to the garlic shrimp (the mini bowl comes with 4 pieces, while the regular bowl and plate comes with 8 pieces with the only difference you get more sides with the plate). [FOOD] The food is little bit on the pricey side though we are definitely fans of the CRAZY GARLIC STEAK and the CREAMY GARLIC SHRIMP. We were disappointed that when we went the white rice was on the soggy side and the garlic fried rice upgrade didn't really have any noticeable garlic flavor. It's nice that they give out pagers to notify you when your food is ready but we didn't end up waiting that long. read more

I really had high hopes of this place but Im so sad that they were a disappoint! The best thing about this place is the customer service we got from Kaycee. He was so nice and greeted us right away. He also took his time explaining the menu because it was our first time there. I ordered the mini loco moco bowl with a demi glaze (sweet japanese sauce, has a tomato flavor) and garlic fried rice. The garlic fried rice is an additional $2.50 which I did not agree on because you don't taste garlic at all because there's so much egg that it overpowers the flavor. The fried rice was also bland, I should've just had the white rice and save $2.50. My boyfriend ordered the crazy garlic steak bowl and he wasn't satisfied as well. The steak was very chewy in our preferences. Sadly it was also bland as well. It was a bummer that we didn't like the food but at least you'll get great customer service. read more

The combo plate is worthwhile trying when you are exhausted hanging around Ala Moana Gigantic Shopping center. It was a spontaneous stop by and had no idea what to order first. I browsed their menus which is so helpful for non-native english speaker in terms of coming with pictures of their plates. Then I picked out their most favorite Combo plate(*attached pic)... The meat itself was TENDERand JUICY and it's way out of Food Court level. Also several kinds of sources perfectly harmonized with the steak. I highly recommend that you should try the combo plate if you're not sure for lunch. You won't regret! P.S: after first visiting, I became addicted and bought "to go plates" for my coworkers. Even if it got cold, you can heat them up at Microwave as it is! read more

For some reason I just found out this place near the back of the food court ..... and I have to say IM IN LOVE! My boyfriend and I got the chicken katsu plate and the pork ginger bowl. Chicken katsu plate ($10.95) Comes with one scoop of your choice of rice between fried rice or white rice, we got white rice which was very nice and fluffy :) the katsu was well cooked and crispy!! it also comes with one side of your choice Pork ginger bowl ($9.95) TOTALLY RECOMMEND! I love it soo much!, especially with the yellow sauce that they have. According to the other reviews it's a mustard sauce. The pork was really juicy and seasoned perfectly. The serving portion is PERFECT for the price. If you decide to come here, I suggest either getting one of the two. read more

Obligatory food court visit after checking in at the families timeshare. Love thr selection at here but I'll never understand why the chick fil a line is always so long when there's sp many options haha. Wanted a plate style meal so decided to give it a go. You can see the team cooking on their little flat top and it looked like they don't cook the heck out their items so that was a plus. I ordered the steak and shrimp meal aka the #1. The shrimp were actually not overcooked amazing and the sauce was really good. Same thing for the steak nice and tender. I got the sweet sukiyaki sauce and Mac Salad. Everything was really flavorful pro tip after you sauce up your meats use your rice to absorb all the sauce on the bottom. Great first meal on this Hawaii trip! read more

This place in the food court next to barrio ramen is pretty good and one of my go tos for quick steak. Now prices are a bit expensive and I wish they gave a little more in portions so I don't come here too often but when I do, I have been always satisfied with the taste! I also this has happened more than three times I remember telling them Mac salad for my side choice but only realized after they gave me the vegetables!lol That's why four stars I was too lazy to go back. I have only tried the steak and shrimps. I dont know about their other plates like loco moco or chicken katsu, curry etc and wouldn't order those here beacuse I can most likely get those items cheaper and better portions at other local establishments. But steak is in their name so I'm sure their steak will be their main. Anyways so I come here for the steak I've gotten it plenty times and what I love is you can ask to cook it to your temp I don't know if people know that! The first couple times Ive gotten it too rare for my liking so I just let them know the temp I want and it's been on point ! I ask for medium well and some times some of the meat is a little chewy but for the most part it's been very tender and not tough. I like that they cube the meat and there isn't too much fat. I also love that I can ask them to not put seasoning or salt on the meat! When you get the garlic steak you can choose the sauce and it's salty enough that it gives lots of good flavor when you eat with the steak! Love love the shoyu garlic sauce sooo much garlic! Love it on the rice too. Recently tried the steak and shrimp combo plate $20 and loved it! It comes with a creamy garlic sauce in addition to the shoyu garlic sauce I think for the shrimps but you don't really need beacuse in the plate there was actually a thin creamy mayo sauce on the bottom where the cabbage is and that sauce was also on the shrimps and it was sooo yummy too! Not too salty and it was good with the cabbage like a dressing! Shrimp was tender and you can choose a side of veges or Mac salad. It was just sooo good and I was fully satisfied! The wait isn't too long and they give you a buzzer thing to let you know when your order is ready. I'd would be nice if they gave kamaaina discount like next door at the ramen shop.. lol the all steak plate is $22 and the mini steak bowl is $13. It gets real busy during peak lunch and dinner hours. The staff I wouldn't say are real friendly but it's been okay. read more

The steak was tender and seasoned well. But it was also medium, which I don't like. I couldn't chew some of it because it just felt like fat, delicious fat, but fat nonetheless. Turns out it wasn't cooked enough for me. The corn is served cold, I was absolutely not ready for that. I'm from Oklahoma, where the corn is served hot. The shrimp was very good. The garlic sauce was so good that it justified me eating raw cabbage. Overall decent meal. read more

Lets hope this review helps me keep my reputation! I say this because i tend to go to a place as soon as they open so usually the food is pretty good!! (In spanish we say a new broom always sweeps the floor pretty good) but then looks like they start cutting corners and when i come back for a second time its not the same as the firs time i tried them and i get too lazy to update my review :( *Ambience: Located inside Makai (ocean side) Food court in Ala Moana mall. *Service: english is my second language so sometimes i had a really tough time understanding a person with a super strong accent! The girl in the counter was really nice but i felt bad cause i couldnt understand her. I wanted to upgrade my rice to fried rice and she ended up giving me a side order fried rice and taking the white rice out from my plate! :/ *Food: decided to try their combination plate (steak and shrimp) its true what the reviews say, the meat was tender and grandmas denture friendly! The garlic shrimp is really garlicky but since i love garlic it worked for me. Overall, not a bad place to eat (for now) Lets just hope they keep it this way! :) #bellyapprovedfornow read more

This new Japanese steak plate take out at the Ala Moana Center Makai food court is pretty good. If you love garlic, even better. Served up hot and fresh, you can get a filling and tasty meal here. It isn't just steak though. There is shrimp as well. They have decent sized shrimp cooked top perfection in a buttery garlic sauce. All dishes come with sides to fill you up and balanced to go with your entre. They also offer an assortment of dipping sauces as well to liven up your dish, but it is so flavorful already, you really don't need them. All the same, get a few sauces just to try. Now they do use a lot of garlic and that is their thing, so if you aren't a fan of garlic or work closely with people like in sales, you might want to make sure you have some breath mints or brush your teeth right after. read more

Definitely try the garlic steak. We got the steak and shrimp combo - it was yummy. The garlic sauce was truly the bomb! Downside - the shrimp had to be shelled - which probably retains flavor and juiciness but very hard to eat in a food court. Steak was flavorful and cooked just right - but this was not a cheap meal for one. Fried Rice was good. But again, it all added up to a lot to feed only one. read more

I saw a feature of them on the morning news & was excited to check this place out. I went on a weekday & it took 30 min for my steak/shrimp combo plate! I know how long it took because my receipt said 10:45 & by 11:20 I was getting irritated because I was the only one standing around waiting. I went up to the cashier to check on it because the people that ordered after me got their food already. He said it'd be right out. Ugh! So, while standing there & waiting for half an hour, I watched how things went down. The cashier, he was very nice to me & every customer after me. He explained their menu & different options they offer. Like most, I read yelp reviews before hand & saw some yelpers mention how the steak wasn't hot like the rest of food in their plate. Well, I saw them make 3 platters worth of steaks within ~10 min. They had 2 cooks working on steaks. They'd cook it, cut it up & place it on a silver platter, then hand it to the female who was packing the plates before they were handed out. Did I mention it was 3 platters worth? Ok, so, you'd think it was made to order right? By the time I got my plate there was still 2 platters left of steak that's been sitting there for ~20 min or so. I couldn't see if it's on a warmer or anything. My garlic steak/shrimp plate came with 4 pieces of shrimp & 7 pieces of steak, white rice, mashed potatoes & sukiyaki sweet sauce for $14.95. I also got a complimentary miso soup for the long wait. The food was tasty... but, I wasn't satisfied. I would've been more pleased if it was hot & maybe if you could request how you want it cooked. I'll include pics of how "done" my steaks were. The sauces were pretty good. There were 3 different sauces on there: the one I chose, sukiyaki sweet sauce & Idk what the other 2 were. But, it was good. The miso soup was very watery & tasted watery too. Glad it was free. But, I do appreciate them giving it to me for the wait. I wasn't "ho, kanak attack" kinda full though. I was still hungry afterwards. I'll try this place again later... but not at a time where I'm hella starving, lol! read more
