I was initially skeptical bc of the 1 star reviews and the price but actually am very impressed with this little steak place in the food court of Ala Moana. This is a Japanese pepper steak-style place. They have 4 choices of sauce, I went with the sukiyaki sweet sauce. The price is $20.99 for a mini plate which scared me at first but honestly they gave a decent amount of steak and the cut was pretty good. I poured the entirety of the sauce container over the steak and found it very well seasoned and tasty. The steak was a nice medium, which I'm pretty impressed with given that these are cut into small chunks. My hunch is that people don't come in expecting a Japanese pepper steak style and are disappointed. If you like Japanese pepper steak, you'll be happy. The price can be a deterrent esp for tourists who may not be used to Hawaii prices but I personally don't think it's unreasonable. It's pretty similar in price and portion to other steak plates around Honolulu (like Pioneer). Would recommend! read more

Y'all would think this is a random steak place at a mall, but this is farrrrr from that. Steak Teppai offers your classic steak and cuts of Wagyu as if you were at an actual teppanyaki place. I will say that the price points are pretty high, but you get what you pay for. They have the wagyu steak bites at $38.99, but I opted for the Garlic Steak Bites at $28.99 for a "cheaper" alternative. It was extremely tender and juicy! Cooked medium. They know what they doing on that stove for real and I feel like the cuts of meat were great quality. You get a side salad with their Japanese miso dressing. I will say it's a bit salty though for my liking. Next time I'm back on the island I'm definitely coming back to the mall just for this! read more

I am considering the fact this place is considered fast food ish. The steak is ok but it isn't terrible. The steak was a little dry and not very flavorful. The service was not above and beyond but the staff were not rude either. The atmosphere is not fair to purely base it on the restaurant because it is a community space shared among many restaurant in the same massive space. I can't attest to whether this is truly wagyu beef or not but it was tender and flavorful as heck. Long overdue, as I've been a happy customer for years now. This hidden gem is located in the Ala Moana food court, towards the back side near chick-fil-a. My go to order is the garlic steak plate with garlic punch sauce. Let me just say, the spices and the garlic sauce really makes the steak taste soo good. This is by far the best steak plate to-go spot. For being located in a food court this is definitely a top contender. Blazin Steaks has nothing on them. I live in the windward side of the island and will take a drive down to town just to come here. (I hate driving to town so you know it's that delicious). Who knew steak could be good at a food court? We tried it once and I can't get over how delicious it is so we keep coming back. I always get the garlic ribeye and have also tried the shrimp which is also good. The steak is so flavorful and cooked well considering this is a mall food court. This is good for lunch when you're extra hungry or for a take home dinner. I usually have leftovers as it's plenty of food. The garlic soy sauce pairs well with the steak and rice. Otherwise it might be too salty in its own. The garlic salad dressing is great too. This meal is pricey but you are getting quality casual food for a fraction of what it would cost at a sit down restaurant. I recommend giving Steak Teppei a try if you're nearby. read more

Don't be fooled by the location, for food court food this was my favorite!  I ordered the #1 Garlic Ribeye 4 oz Steak w/ Cream Garlic Shrimp and it was delectable! The meat portion was tender, seasoned well and was a perfect amount and they gave more shrimp than I was expecting. The creamy garlic sauce paired well with the shrimp and the steak sauce gave the meat an extra kick of flavor.  The order was about $25 which was high for food court food but the quality was top notch.  The service was good and the area was clean. There was a lot of open seating available, restrooms nearby and other variety of food options nearby.  It is located in the food court on the first floor in the Ala Moana Center where parking is free!  If you're in the area I highly recommend checking this place out! read more

Even if we're in town for dinner reservations, we'll still make it a point to come here and pick up a plate for a later meal. I always get the same plate. Although I've been wanting to try more, I am usually short on time and don't want to dwell on a decision! Lol. To start with, the employees here are super helpful and thoughtful. They put a smile on my granddaughter's face with a lollipop on a recent visit. In the many times we've been here, we've always had a pleasant experience. But the food... totally not what you expect from a mall food court establishment. Upon ordering, you get a buzzy disk to let you know when your food is ready. Typically it's 10 minutes. The steak is cooked perfectly medium. It's tender and flavorful as is. The shrimp is shelled and cooked perfect as well. They include a seasoning mix and 2 sauces. The garlic sauce is straight up bomb!! And adding a sprinkle of the seasoning mix to each bite is roll-your-eyes-to-the-back-of-your-head good. Bonus they have brown rice for a couple extra bones. The downside is the portion... for a Jackson, you don't get all that much. It's actually a meal I could finish in one sitting if I'm hungry enough... that's from someone who typically eats kid meal sizes. BUT the food is so good and the employees are so pleasant, they get all 5 stars. When I came home with the kids one time, hubs got a bit sad because although I brought home the extra sauce I had (cuz it's that good and I knew he'd love to use it), he was bummed he missed out. Located on the first floor of the Ala Moana Shopping Center, they're one of the stalls of the Makai Market Food Court. This mall was recommended to us because it's the largest open-air shopping center in the world, with lots of interesting shops and is very beautiful. Parking is free and, if you're trying to get to just or firstly the food court) would recommend trying to park in the southern garages. Basically, try for one of the entrances along Ala Moana Boulevard. If you're getting the Crazy Steak, it might not be worth getting the garlic rice as well. It's REALLY GOOD, mind you, but the steak is also extremely flavorful. You can't really get much of the rice's flavor when they're eaten together, so it might not be worth shelling out for that. Steak Teppei is (I THINK) a Japanese establishment/franchise originally from the Tokyo prefecture in Japan, and this Steak Teppei is their first US location. Weirdly enough, I think this is probably one of the best places for that fast, takeout box full of food you can take home or to the beach. A lot of it is exactly what we were looking for in Hawaiian while leaning more towards Japanese flavors and dishes. Their garlic shrimp was actually better than some of the other places that say they specialize in it. However, my favorite is still their steak and macaroni salad! The sauce was delicious and the meat cooked perfectly. X3 Primarily, I appreciate how tasty their food is even after taking it home, and would like to try more of their menu. When my friend suggested going to a mall on my first day in Oahu to grab something to eat, I thought something was wrong with them. I knew Hawaii had tons of incredible eateries and typically malls are filled with chain restaurants. I am not a fan of large chain restaurants and my friend knew this. Steak Teppei is the first United States location for the Japanese-based chain. The original location was open during the 1970's when steak was consideredr food for the rich. So what made this company decide to take a nearly 5,000 miles journey? The chef at the Hawaii location grew up creating amazing memories at the original Steak Teppei and studied under the tutelage of the original owner for more than 10 years before journeying across the Pacific. The menu is not lengthy, there are roughly a dozen menu options. However, I think it is better to be exceptional at a few things than mediocre at a bunch of things. Steak Teppei is phenomenal. This food was so good I literally dreamed about it. Several days later, when I woke up early to climb Diamond Head, I waited until the food court was open to order the same meal all over again. Hawaii's food is not cheap (being thousands of miles away from the mainland causes high shipping costs) and cheap is not always good. Steak Teppei offers inexpensive food with great quantity, amazing quality, and that #dreaminsing taste. The photo does not do this place justice, but I hope my review does. The next time I visit the island (I hope that sooner than later), Steak Teppei will be my first stop all over again. read more

Hubby, daughter and I came here for dinner. Located inside the mall at the food court. I was pretty hungry. I decided to get the chicken katsu with corn and rice. They had one side you can pick from. I also got a large diet coke. It was pretty big. The food here was pretty good. It was pretty pricey though. The chicken katsu was probably the most affordable plate priced at $15 and some change. There were actual plates that showed you what each plate had. The steak was probably the most expensive. There were plenty of tables in front. Luckily my daughter saved us a table. My daughter even liked her curry udon bowl. She said it was good. I would want to try the steak or shrimp plate next time we come here. I highly recommend trying this place out of you're at the food court and crave local and delicious savory dishes. Definitely worth your money. read more

Was seriously hoping for better :( this whole experience was just not happening for me. I'm trying new places whenever possible and chose here...decided on Loco Moco and was nice to see they offer smaller sizes and got a mini, you get a choice of white or garlic fried rice for $2.50 extra then gravy or Demi sauce, didn't ask how I wanted my egg so I didn't bother...whatever. You're then given a buzzer to alter you when your order ready. Packed up nicely I always bring my utensils and I know new law requires you to ask for them but a fork and napkin was placed though I'd prefer chopsticks and sadly wasted the fork (wasn't asked about utensils as well). I understand the regular plate comes with the veggies and other choices which I'm not expecting but this mini was quite depressing. No choice of how I wanted my egg, as pictured no mushrooms or garlic chips and the meat was half a store bought patty cut in quarters which lacked flavor would not recommend it at all. This should not be on the menu it's quite embarrassing to be honest and the staff was just not friendly at all no smiles and is like they don't want to be there. First time trying Steak Teppei in the Ala Moana food court. It's located on the ewa end of the food court closer to Panda Express. We paid and we're given a buzzer to let us know when the food was ready. We got the Combo steak and shrimp plate and bowl. Honestly the only difference is that the plate includes 1 side choice of steamed vegetables, mac salad or mashed potatoes for $2.00 extra. Both included 4 pieces of shrimp and about the same amount of steak. Taste? The shrimp was really juicy and good size, in the bowl you get the advantage of all that garlicky creamy goodness on top of the rice and cabbage it was delicious! The steak was nicely seasoned on its own however you get a choice of sauce too that comes separately teriyaki, garlic, hawaiian salt. They didn't ask how I wanted it cooked but it came out medium and tender. The only downside is that the prices have increased by $2.00 for the same menu items from last year, it's a little pricey but keep mind it's steak and you're in the food court. Overall taste and seasoning was good, just wish the steak portions were larger. I may go again is I'm craving steak and shrimp. read more

I wanted to treat myself to a celebration lunch on Finisher's Monday after Honolulu Marathon weekend without the complications of dressing up at a formal steakhouse while my body was still recovering post race with minor body aches. It was a really busy time for lunch as they had a few orders ahead of mine that got their smaller steak orders than my full steak plate. You're given a pager for when your food is ready to get it. I watched as they made the steak by searing both sides then adding seasoning, lots of butter and some kind of dark liquid sauce on it but it's a very well seasoned steak. Can't go wrong with meat that has butter and seasonings. Delicious! The mashed potatoes had no flavor nor butter, I only ate a few bites from it. I wouldn't get the mashed potatoes again if given the choice, maybe just go all rice. I ate more of the steak and some of the rice which had seaweed seasoning on it. I loved dipping the steak in the mayonnaise garlic sauce and the ponzu fresh garlic sauce as it added stronger garlic flavors to the steak especially with the rice to balance it out. There were a couple fatty pieces of steak but most were full of meat, tender, flavorful and delicious to eat. It's good steak for a food court steak in terms of quality and price. I always like to eat protein post race to help the muscles for quicker recovery time. I would highly recommend their steak plate or bowl to eat for sure! I moved to Honolulu from Tokyo in 1995, and that was the last time I had eaten Japanese steak with the special Japanese sauce despite having visited Japan numerous times since. The garlic steak plate featured steak pieces from Tokyo that tasted exactly the way I remember tasting them in the basement level of the department store at Ikebukuro Station -- the taste after 27 years was just heavenly!!
