The house sauce is a delicious creamy aioli/mayo based sauce that pairs well with the burritos. Both the kalbi and short rib burritos are delicious and a decent size. The red hot sauce they give on the side is so good too. Is a little pricey but since this is Hawaii, the prices are as expected. This is a popular spot in The Lanai food court at Ala Moana, it's the smaller food court near Macy's. Service is usually good, a couple of times the older lady at the front had a very hard time understanding our order but other folks have been efficient and quick. The wait is longer because they do cook the food to order and since it is popular there is a short wait. Still recommend, give them a try.

They cook everything on a flat top, and if you sit at the counter, you can watch the chef prepare your meal right in front of you. We thoroughly enjoyed everything we ordered. Tako, ong choi, beef with negi sauce, and okonomiyaki with oysters. Every dish was a hit. Our only regret was not having more people with us so we could order and try even more items. I waited way too long to try Yaki Yaki Miwa. I definitely will not be waiting that long to go back.

Not knowing what to order we got the basic course for two. Everything we were served was better than any Japanese food I've had back on the east coast. The staff was awesome and super friendly to two people from the East Coast who didn't know what the heck they were doing, It's a small place so looking at all of the negative reviews came from large groups it kind of makes sense that it might not be the right place for a party of 8. The chef actually cares about what he is cooking and your patience will be rewarded. Also those complaining about 20% tip grow up. The chef is literally cooking food 1 ft in front of you and the service is on point taking every dirty dish so the food doesn't mix and never having an empty beer.

One of the perks was fam tours where businesses would invite tour coordinators to experience their business with hopes of us recommending them. This first hand experience was instrumental in "selling" the business as coordinators encountered the business firsthand. We could provide concrete details to convince and persuade the tourists to patronize them. One of the businesses was Tanaka of Tokyo (TT), which boasts teppanyaki, a type of Japanese cuisine that cooks on a flat griddle. TT started in 1978 in Waikiki Shopping Plaza, an impressive run of 48 years and still going strong. They currently have 3 locations: West (Ala Moana), Central (Waikiki Shopping Plaza) and East (Outrigger Waikiki Paradise Hotel). They previously had locations at King's Village and Ilikai Hotel Yacht Harbor Tower. The main attraction of TT is having the chef cook in front of you. Food is cooked in front of you and served fresh. Entertainment is an additional attraction with teppanyaki. Out of town guests can really enjoy this unique experience. We celebrated a friend's birthday recently where TT East was the selected venue. They are located just next to Hookipa Terrace with nearby neighbors of California Pizza Kitchen and Jade Dynasty. Reservations were made in advance and our group of eight sat in a semi circle surrounding the grill. They have multiple courses to choose from where surf and turf is popular but I opted for the salmon course, which included green salad, miso soup, appetizer of grilled shrimp, sautéed veggies (onions, bell peppers and bean sprouts), Japanese pickles, rice and dessert. For a surcharge I got the garlic fried rice as I remembered this not only being entertaining but delicious. Our grill chef was Joe, a long time veteran of over 20 years where he also trains the new chefs of TT. He clearly engaged with us by also adding jokes in between. My salmon was executed well with a nice exterior crust, the meat was moist and seasoned perfectly. The only thing that didn't make the mark was the garlic fried rice. I recall it being more flavorful with also crispy garlic here and there for a more pungent taste. It wasn't what I previously remembered from multiple visits to TT. Service was also great. We were followed up periodically with staff removing excess plates, providing water and hot tea refills and even providing take out boxes to some of my friends who couldn't finish their meal. Staff were thoughtful in singing "Happy Birthday"and placed a candle in the ice cream that accompanied the course meal. Overall, a memorable dinner with friends celebrating a joyous evening. Lots of parking in Ala Moana Center but be careful as there are some areas where tickets are issued. Be sure to look for signs prior to walking away from your stall.

We were invited to a birthday celebration and were excited because we had never been here before - even though this restaurant has been here for a while! Tanaka Of Tokyo is a chain that has a good reputation for delicious Japanese cuisine with an entertaining show. First of all, this location has free parking... yay! We parked on the ground level by See's Candies and took the elevator (by Cookie Corner) up to the third level with Mama Pho and Mai Tai Bar. Service by Lisa was outstanding! She was super polite, sweet, efficient, and attentive! Our chef, Joe, was amusing, fun, and informative! He's the trainer for the new chefs! The environment was on the dark side. It could use an update, but it was a minor detail. The restroom was clean and convenient. Food was delicious! My salmon meal came with a green salad, dessert (I chose mango sherbet), sautéed veggies, shrimp appetizer, and white rice. It was just right! Late-night izakaya gem in McCully!…read more Came here pretty late at night when a lot of places were already closed, we stumbled upon Osaka Teppanyaki & Izakaya Kawano inside McCully Shopping Center. We decided to sit at the bar instead of getting a table, and honestly, it was perfect. The place has a small, cozy izakaya feel with a really chill, laid-back vibe the kind of spot you can just sit back, order a bunch of things, and enjoy your night. We ordered the shrimp, shishamo, TKG with mentaiko + extra green onion, nikusui with egg, and the whole ahi with the bone served with nori and rice. the whole ahi with the bone is HUGE. We thought we were done after eating one side, only to realize after the waiter informed us there was a whole other side of meat still left! The TKG with mentaiko and extra green onion was also a favorite, simple but so satisfying. The nikusui with egg was comforting, especially for a late-night meal, and the fried shrimp were nice and crispy. The Shisamo was allright, could have been better. Overall, this is definitely one of those low key neighborhood spots that's perfect for a late night bite, drinks, and hanging out at the bar. Small, cozy, chill atmosphere. Definitely glad we found this place when we were looking for somewhere open late!
