Something about a long day at the beach and you just wanna eat some comfort food.. Steak rave hits the spot! Close/on the way to Kailua and Lanikai beach is Oneawa Market. Inside Oneawa Market is steak rave. There is a wait, but I think it's because they cook to order. Just a heads up, if you already showered after a long day at the beach you might wanna have someone order for you cause the cooked food smell will make you smell. Steak Rave is tucked inside what used to be the old Oneawa Market liquor store (sign says temp. Closed), the outside might look a little sketch, but don't let that fool you the food here is unreal!!! I could smell the amazing steak smell from a block away where we parked. We ordered the steak and shrimp plate, steak and noodles, and the steak and kalbi plate. Every single dish was SO DANG GOOD!!! I was impressed with their generous portions, especially for the price (around $16 per plate, which is a steal for this quality in Hawaii). Their noodles are super yummy, perfectly chewy, so I highly recommend that one, but also really liked the other two we got because they came with rice AND SALAD! The ONLY not-so-great thing was my shrimp... I wouldn't recommend getting their shrimp. It was overcooked and tough/dry. It wasn't a standout like the rest. There are no tables or chairs, just a small bar area where you can stand and eat. It was packed with locals (like me) waiting in line... I could tell it's a local fave. If you're after a fancy dining experience, this isn't it. But if you're craving dank Ono grindz food that hits the spot without breaking the bank, Steak Rave is 100% worth it. When my sister moved to Kailua she told me about this little window in Oneawa market that serves bomb steak and noodles. You can imagine my skepticism but after trying it.... I need to tell you: GET THE KALBI $19.50 for 2 huge pieces of kalbi, rice and salad The steak noodles were also yummy and at $14.50. It's basically a fried saimin with thick bites of steak. They also have shrimp and chicken if you're not a fan of red meat. This place is amazing. It's the epitome of a hole in the wall as it's quite literally a window inside a liquor store (that part of the store actually appears to be closed off) . I guess this is its reincarnation. You can call in your order to minimize wait time and the aunty was on it, didn't even need to give our name or phone number, just knew we were the one with 5 plates and had em all right. Such an awesome surprise! Was looking for a lunch spot in Kailua all the way from Mililani. Randomly found this place and omg we're definitely going back! Didn't get pics because we demolished the food so quickly. Ordered shrimp and steak, I didn't specify how I wanted it cooked and was given medium rare perfection. My bf got just steak, ordered medium well and it was cooked perfectly for him. The salad was refreshing and light. The 3 scoops rice was not too wet, not too dry. My shrimp was blackened and buttered, I admit to pouring the garlic butter on my steak (not that it needed it). Proportions were on point. Service was simple and very friendly!!! Super fast and easy. HIDDEN GEM ALERT! :D Steak Rave is definitely a classic hole in the wall style spot that absolutely delivers on the common idea of the best things come from the most unexpected places (this place is literally a liquor store/restaurant in one haha). I love their fried noodles so so ONO! I always get steak noodle at a minimum but I love to add chicken sometimes since it's also yum. Now the reaaal Razzle Dazzle is that SAUCE there's a few options in a basket next to where you order and get your meal, definitely love to douse my entire plate LOL and I also love the cracked black pepper it just does something to elevate the plate. Pro tip: grab you a drink before you order from the fridges and they will add it to your meals total so you don't have to go all the way into the store for a separate transaction. Also somethings to keep in mind is this is a takeout spot so there's not really any seating maybe like a chair or two at times but expect to grab and go, parking can also be a headache since it's very limited but if your patient you'll find something and it's totally worth it. Hole-in-the wall spot...When we arrived, I was pretty skeptical since it was located inside a convenience store. We heard about this spot from locals in the area raving about it. We ordered the popular items: ($12.95) Steak and Noodles -the steak was good but nothing super special...however the noodles were good! Noodles had fish cake and spam in it. You definitely want to squeeze some of the bottled Korean sauce on your food before you leave (located at the front of counter where you pay). You'll see all the customers drenching it all over their plates. ($18.95) Haleiwa Special Mix (Kalbi, Chicken, Pork) with rice and salad. -Kalbi had decent flavor, however was a bit on the chewy side. Chicken and Pork were okay. Salad came with the choice of thousand island or ranch dressing. I heard another customer substitute for more rice if you're not a salad person. Takeout only - no seating. To the left is the food order station where you can order food. To the right is where you can go grab drinks or any snacks. Food took about 15-20 minutes during dinner time on a Sunday. It seems like a popular spot to call in your order so it'll be ready. Also from the looks of it, doesn't look the most sanitary in the kitchen area. Cash only - they do have an ATM inside but charges fees. Convenient if you need cash. Parking lot is small and can only fit a few cars. I added 4 grilled shrimp that were small but very well flavored. A nice sized plate of food for around $17.50. The noodles are delicious made fresh stir fried with an infusion of tiny slices of spam, artificial crab & onions. Service was friendly and there is a slight wait with each order cooked fresh, steak is hand cut into bite sized strips. Ambiance of a market setting. There is no place to eat in. This is strictly a to go walk in and out. The market has a variety of alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages. Plenty of assorted vape accessories and da Kine snacks. The manic happens behind the small counter where they have a hideaway kitchen and grill for the epic to go plates. Three parking slots outside the main entrance on a busy corner makes finding a slot to park kind of like the lottery. There's always street meter parking or you can use the goodwill and Hardware Hawaii lot just across the street. I hit the lotto today gaining the cherished parking slot that is in the front of the entrance. Next time I will call ahead to avoid the 5-10 minute wait for my order. Kalbi pieces were high quality meat: large and not too fatty at all and cooked to perfection . Not all bone like many other places. I didn't know sirloin could taste this delicious and tender despite being cooked medium-well. Better than some rib-eye steaks I've had at fancy restaurants. A bit hard to find (inside of a convenience store, didn't see an obvious sign) and no space to eat (but perfect to grab to bring to the beach). But what a hidden gem! Still one of my favorite places for a great, inexpensive "plate lunch". Even during these pandemic times with almost every eatery raising prices due to supply issues, they have kept their prices starting under $10 for regular plates and around $12 - $15 for most large and specialty combo plates. My favorite lately has been the bbq pork plate: sometimes with rice and salad, sometimes with fried noodles... always a winner. The slightly charred edges and salty sweet meat make my mouth water just looking at it. They are always willing to accommodate special mixed orders (at least they always have for me) and sometimes I'll come up with a crazy combo to try and stump them but they always come thru at a very reasonable price. I suggest you look at the menu pics posted and call in your order first before going down to pick it up... sometimes the wait can be long. I hope they stay around for years to come but don't get too popular and crowd the locals out like some other places read more
