Dinner rush chaos with many things happening. Ordered food via app at 1730 with a 1745 pickup time. Arrived in restaurant at 1740 and walked to TO GO Orders here counter at the registers. The individual seemed overwhelmed and was a bit bewildered trying to figure out the food charges. In the meantime, while waiting patiently to do the usual, "Mobile Order For xxx", I was never acknowledged, then they helped two preteens who came down the line from the front end who were BEHIND me. I waited patiently, then the employee continued to ignore me as they reopened the clamshells at the registers and had to go and ask what the entrees were in the containers from their coworkers in the food line. I'm assuming they were new and hadn't really gone thru proper training. As I was going to be ignored for the Third time, I had to interject to let them know I was waiting to pick up a To Go Order. Another employee observed my frustration and offered assistance. Voila! The order was located and the manager on duty took care of it. Mission accomplished and I walked out at 1805. It's sad to also say I was served After some folks that walked in and stood in line, After my arrival! This should be a 1 or 2 star rating, however, our previous visits have been flawless. I love eating at Panda Express. It's fast and quick Chinese food that's premade and ready to order once you get in line. My all time favorite is mushroom chicken. I got the kids meal size which seemed like enough. It comes with a small drink and a chocolate chip cookie. My food was pretty good. If you plan on dining in, you must show your vaccination card along with identification. I always carry it with me just in case we dine in anywhere. Super impressed with Hawaii's latest Panda Express location in Kailua. Clean, modern, and the employees are ultra friendly. The quality of the food is top notch and portions are generous. I hope they continue to uphold the quality and consistency that Panda Express is known for. Great for dining in or take out. My family loves panda, no complaints on their food most of the time. However, I was stuck at home with my boys and we had to order delivery. Door dash brought the food and they performed their job great. But the food wasn't that great. Was barely warm and looked like it had been under a heat lamp for a couple hours and certainly got the bottom the pan of noodles. My nieces and nephews love Panda and always go for the Orange Chicken Bowl! While chains aren't typically my go-to, Panda offers a lot of options so we can all find something we like. On my most recent visit I was happy to see a few new options including a really nice veggie mix you can choose for your side, instead of rice or noodles. Love having this healthier choice available. I also tried their new Sichuan chicken. It was really nice and juicy and the spices were really flavorful. Still, come on people, it's Panda Express. There are some Chinatown restaurants that deserve 4.5 stars but I'm not convinced that any fast food place achieves that. I was starving and the Ninja Sushi a couple of doors down was closed on a Monday, so Pandas was pretty much my only option. I got a bowl with half chow mein and half chow fun along with the classic orange chicken as my entree. I wolfed that entire thing down! My only reoccurring complaint with Pandas is the acidity of their orange chicken. Sure, it tastes good, but that thing is so acidic! When I stick my nose in my food (that's normal, okay?!) my nose literally stars to hurt from the acidity wafting from my orange chicken. Wowowowow! Finally, a Panda Express in Kailua! Yay! They are located in the small strip mall next to Safeway, across the street from Down to Earth. A few parking stalls are available in front of the store, but it does share it with Aloha Pacific FCU, Subway, and Ninja Sushi. There is a bigger lot in front of Safeway. Today was their grand opening. We had been wondering when Panda Express was going to open. They had been working on the plane for a few months. I was actually at Target when I spotted a gigantic inflatable panda near the entrance to the Safeway parking lot. It was like a beacon to come on down! We got there a little after 7 pm. The line was at the door. I was about to turn around and leave, but THE PANDA of Panda Express was in the front greeting people as they walked in! And the smell of orange chicken reminded me of why I was there in the first place. When entering through the entrance door (to the right when facing the restaurant), the green pass sign is displayed above the hours. The exit door is to the left. As you go in, there are booths lined up against wall on the left. To the right of the entrance, it looks like they set up temporary plastic rectangular card tables. At least I hope it is temporary because it didn't match the rest of the decor. There is a taller large group table (8 seats) between the entrance/exit doors. The food service counter is takes up the right of the place. The soft drink station is in the back. The restrooms are just beyond that. When we got to the counter, we were greeted with a large smile and an offer to sample one of the entrees. We already had our specific order, so we gave it and our containers got passed down the line. The staff was moving so fast. The cooks were putting out the food just as fast as the food servers were calling for more. Everything looked fresh and delicious! There were two registers going, so there was almost no wait time between ordering and paying. It took us around 8 minutes to get in and out. (A majority of that time was due to a large family in front of us.) That was good time considering it was packed due to their grand opening. As for the quality of the food, I have to rely on my children on this part. (I had already eaten dinner at home.) The orange chicken was excellent and the fried rice was just as good as other Panda Express locations. Now that Kailua has their own Panda Express, I may never have to leave this side of the island! read more

FIRST ! I GOT KISSED BY A PANDA ! 5 stars for having somebody sweating in a full body panda suit at their grand opening ! This panda was hustling too, posing for photos and playing with kids in a very upbeat and endearing way. Grand Opening for this new location--- and everything was reliably Panda. Opening Manager Aaron noticed us studying the calorie counts posted on the menu board and we had a nice talk with him about nutrition and Panda. He is an Oahu resident who moved here from China 18 years ago and his first job was as a cook at Panda and he has been moving up the ranks ever since. He said the reason he is still with them today is that their ideal is not just about making money but also about helping people, both customers and staff. He talked about how they always put school first for student employees and how he himself is now taking college classes. He also told us about one of their local community volunteer efforts where they go donate and serve food at Special Olympics every year. And of course "Never MSG" and "Vegetables cut fresh daily." Sooooo, back to those calorie counts. It turns out the worst calorie offender is one of my favorites, Beijing Beef at well over 400 calories per serving, followed closely by Orange Chicken and Honey Walnut Shrimp. Disappointingly, another one of my favorites, the Eggplant Tofu, despite being vegetarian, also comes in at about the same calories as Orange Chicken. Aaron said this is because the eggplant and tofu are deep fried before being stir fried with the sauce. The best choices at below 200 calories per serving are beef broccoli, green bean chicken, and black bean chicken. Tip--- I also get 1/2 noodles and 1/2 steamed vegetables as my "starch" which cuts the calories and boosts the veg content a bit. This is one of the cleaner Panda's we have been to on island and the staff is usually very friendly. The only complaint I have is that if you happen to get some of the last servings in a dish it is usually pretty noticeable. This last time I was here I got the last bit of Walnut Shrimp and Orange Chicken and they were both a little dry. The food was still good, and I finished my plate! This is my favorite Panda's to go to. It isn't huge but always clean and very friendly staff. They don't skimp on the entrée choices in your plate and will get you a fresh batch promptly if it's low or offer another item instead of waiting.
