I was a bit nervous about trying steak and shake again but they were quick and friends were extra hot and fresh!

I'm going to break this review into three parts. Part 1 the food If you've ever eaten at Steak 'n Shake then the food is familiar to you. I have to say I read a bunch of negative reviews and I expected the worst so that may have colored my judgement. However the food was good it was as good as any other Steak 'n Shake and better than some. My kids liked their food my wife liked her food it was hot and tasty. Part 2 Experience The restaurant was ok it wasn't the cleanest but it wasn't some trash pit. The staff was friendly the girl who took our order informed me before I ordered that it would be about ten minutes to get our food. It took about 15 minuets. Overall the expectation we had for the restaurant and what we got where wildly different. I've eaten at Steak 'n Shake quiet a bit I know what to expect. This Steak 'n Shake is different it's more like a Steak 'n Shake express (except it isn't fast). Which brings me to Part 3 The Concept I'm not sure if this is a test store or if other Steak 'n Shakes like this exists. First of all you stand in line and make your order at the cashier just like any fast food joint. Second they don't offer a full Steak 'n Shake menu, which for what they are trying to do makes sense, although there is no indication of this until you get inside to order. Third and here is where the rubber meets the road the time it takes to make the food is the same amount of time it takes at a regular Steak 'n Shake, and there in lies the problem. Steak 'n Shake is considered to be a quick service restaurant y'all know the drill you go in wait to be seated the server comes takes your order then brings you your food when it's ready the expectation that it will take a little while to get your food is managed by the fact that you go through all these motions. However at this location all of that is striped away except the time it takes to make the food which in turn makes it seem longer to get your food then it actually does even though it still takes a while. I'm not sure how successful this concept will be I mean with the ability to go to other Steak n shakes near by that operate in the original manner. All that said it isn't as if they aren't trying they have the work divided into groups they have a shake station and a group dedicated to making shakes They have a group dedicated to take orders and a group making the food. Maybe they'll get better as time goes on. The bottom line I'll probably eat here again I mean it's close by and I do like the hamburgers so we will see what the future holds read more

I love eating at the Steak 'n Shake in Murfreesboro, however at this location in smyrna I had a terrible experience with the lady taking my order. She was tall and brunette. The time was 6:23pm on august 11th and order number was 505085. She said "K" to me at the drive through speaker and was extremely rude. Then when I finally got to the window, she gave me my drinks and food with a rude look. She forgot to give me one of my sides, so I tried to tell her, and she slammed the window in my face and wouldn't let me finish my sentence. Finally She gave me the sides I was missing. This is the most disappointing Steak and Shake that I have ever been to. It is dimly lit and darkly colored inside with a dining room about half the size of the typical Steak and Shake. The service was abysmal. It was slow and the antithesis of friendly. They don't have a kids menu which I thought was a bit bizarre. In fact their entire menu is abbreviated. my first experience with the new owners was lackluster. the shake was watery and was dishearten thinking a local good eat was just another NOT go to. well, that all changed when i returned for a second visit. not only did the owner recognize me, he went out of his way to make up the water fiasco but made it correct ten times over. retuned tonight, went to the back of house and spoke in private, got the real story about the change of ownership, and was impressed with the changes he and his brother have invested in and instilled in the business and the dedication that is evident with every aspect of the restaurant. i say let Smyrna support this amount of effort in a local business and go EAT good food from honest hard working people. This would be a good place for a fast food restaurant. Seriously what is up with it taking 30 minutes just to go through the drive thru? I came here on the grand opening and waited about 45 mins in line. Now that is understandable because they were super slammed but what wasn't understandable was my burger and fries being cold! I've tried it out a 2nd time and got lucky with there only being 2 cars in front of me but it still took a good amount of time to get my food and they got my order wrong. I think the main problem is the employees. They are basically children with no work ethic. Seriously SnS get it together with your hires, even the one in Murfreesboro has horrible service. We Arrived and paid for our food around 7:20pm. We waited for about 20 mins before saying anything on the status and told us we are second. We Waited again then asked for the manager, which I got the lead Reece. I Asked him what was going on, says the food is frozen and they've been microwaving the meat to defrost because they didn't leave enough meat defrost for them to use. I asked about my milkshake, does it take 20 mins as well? He then shouts back to the people at the milkshake station asking where was it and basically looking at me lost of words to say to me on how to make the situation better. Reece said he made it based on the screen and I, as well as the cashier said the receipt said the correct way. I asked for my money back since they didn't know how to compensate or know how to be apologetic. The cashier Maylene was the only person I saw there who knew anything about customer service and try to save the situation. She let me know they are working on my new order and it would be out soon. Unfortunately another 15 mins go by other people later then me got their food and still nothing for us. I went up to her and told her to have them not waste their time and that I was leaving. I get it's a new store, new crew, mistakes happen. But they need to learn a "Fix it + 1" situation or how to make sure the customers are more aware and not talk smack behind the counter, role eyes or say "now what's the problem" all dramatic. No special requests. It took 40 minutes to get our food. The most positive thing about this experience was at least the food was hot. Do NOT go here, As a family of 4 on a rainy Sunday night, we came in when they were not busy and literally waited for 25 minutes before we got our food. If I could give it no stars, I would. When we left, the manager walked out behind us to sit in his car that was parked beside us as we pulled out... WILL NOT BE COMING BACK.
