This particular Steak & Shake has a good dine-in experience, (when they are open) but the reason I'm giving it an upsetting review is because they advertise opening at 7:A.M. on Sundays. NO! They are not! The doors are always locked. This morning we called at 8:24 and asked what time they opened and she snapped back with her answer, "When someone else gets here to help me." and hung up. It wasn't too busy tonight, it was almost empty inside when we pulled in. I ordered the frisco melt, add a patty, and someone else ordered chili-cheese fries with their meal. My melt was supposed to come with three patties after adding one, but instead it came out with only one patty, and the jerk in the kitchen was short and rude to the server when he tried to get it corrected. They still tried to charge for the extra patty I never received; after complaining, I finally received the second patty it originally comes with and just ate it as-is. The chili-cheese fries didn't have chili, and when we reminded the server, we received a cup of chili on the side and they tried to make us pay $4 for the chili. Then the manager made the *server* pay for it, according to the server. We kept asking for mayo and refills, as well as silverware. The server kept trying his best, but he was getting overwhelmed by our table and the other table he was waiting on. We asked for the manager and she never came, but she did come into view to socialize with the crew, one of which was openly cussing in the lobby in his way back in from break. The food & service are great, I dined in. This place has a very retro feel, & the shakes are so good, they are served in an old fashioned glass. The shoestring fries are good, hard to stop eating. Only thing I did not care for was the chilli, but I think that is a personal preference, I prefer thicker chilli with more beans and tomato paste. I like the dining room, very 50's diner. read more

We came at 10am on a Monday and there was only one other table occupied. Breakfast and lunch were available, but we decided on breakfast. Biscuits and gravy were fantastic. Coffee was good. Pancakes were soft and fluffy and to die for. The scrambled eggs were on point, but be careful when using the salt and pepper. It doesn't sprinkle out, it pours out like a waterfall! I've gone to this Steak 'n Shake location before but I've never gone inside but this day we decided to eat inside. In the beginning the waitress was snarky about seating in the dining area with no one inside but then she came around and was helpful the rest of the dining experience. Where we sat we could see the kitchen area and noticed a bun top and a few other items under the grill area. I guess it wasn't cleanup time yet although there was a gentleman mopping the floors during our visit. I ordered the bacon cheddar steak burger and fries. The food was hot and tasty. Came around 7pm I got the royal steak burger it was pretty decent for what it is until I found a piece of hair sticking out of it, also old LETTUCE THAT WAS BROWNING! "Cheap eats can't be beat"! I have been meaning to visit a Steak 'N Shake for quite sometime after hearing about them from a friend. There is a still a burger joint in this country that reigns supreme, so it is very hard for me to find another that closely compares. I enjoyed Steak 'N Shake and especially loved the prices... burgers and fries under $4... now that's a deal! The place was packed, when arrived, but we were still able to get a seat upon arrival. There was a hostess that seated us, in addition to that, she was our server. Service was fast and friendly. They are famous for their steakburgers. I ordered the double cheeseburger (patties only), since I am not hamburger bun fan. My husband ordered the new New American Melt and ordered some mini cheeseburgers for my daughter. All orders came with skinny fries, which are my preferred french fry style, so already a couple stars for that. It was niece to eat a burger that wasn't greasy and the fries were cooked perfectly, too. We left happy and wanting more. This time, Id id not get a milk shake, although they looked amazing... they were enormous, so definitely next time I will have to try one. The burger patties were thin, but filling. If you are big eater, you may need to order a couple plates. Anyway, it served its purpose and I have to hand it to them because their signage is fantastic off the interstate We thoroughly enjoyed our food and will definitely be back. When I went there was two servers working, one boy and one lady her name started with a C I can't remember the name. The boy was so sweet he served us without a problem and couldn't be more well mannered! But the woman seemed more concerned about getting the most customers to get money than she did about the actual customer itself!! What in the actual FK! Been on the road for 700 miles and pull off for hotel and food. This place is the only thing open at 10pm I the area. I tried to walk inside at 9:55pm but they were closing so I got in line for drive thru. Which took a whole HOUR!! As a Cali girl, In-n-Out will always hold a special place in my (probably) cholesterol-affected heart, but this place was pretty darn good with very reasonable prices. We tried the classic cheese steakburger with fries and a chocolate shake (which was ginormous). Despite the low price, is tasted like a good quality burger. We were also surprised that we actually had table service, which was unexpected for a fast food joint. This is the more conveniently located Steak-N-Shake in town. Although it is not easy to get in and out of, I would rather deal with this than the traffic at Schillinger. Food is always served reasonably quickly and at the right temperature. Staff is always attentive and courteous. The restaurant itself is clean. We went in for lunch today and they were very busy. Still, it took about the usual amount of time to get our food. Prices are reasonable for what you get. Portions are not large, but acceptable for the price. The place smelled a little funny, but was clean and had quite a few tables open, so we almost decided to go somewhere else. But, I'm glad we didn't! The food was great. This particular one will never get our business again. It's absolutely horrible. From old lettuce stuck on the salt shaker to filthy grounds & restrooms, this is a dive at best. I ordered a chocolate shake with light syrup & the one I got had enough syrup for 3 separate shakes. I told the waitress 3x that I wanted a light chocolate shake. When she brought it, it was humorous as she brought the shortest straw in the building which wouldn't even hit the bottom of the glass. I did not finish it as it was disgusting. We had to ask for forks & knives. I'd assume those would be the first things set on the table. My wife's fries were not as hot as mine. When we complained to the manager while paying, she just grunted & didn't do anything about it, like take the shake or fries off the bill. The manager didn't care & the employees didn't care...her attitude permeates the staff. This place is a dump & it will never see 1 red cent of mine again. I will tell anybody traveling to the Costco nearby to not eat there - poor product, poor management, poor grounds, poor service. Steak & Shake is one of my boys' favorite fast food places. We stopped yesterday on our way out of town. Four of us ate lunch for about $26. That's pretty inexpensive. The food was as good as always, considering it's fast food. It's cooked to order so don't expect a fast trip through the drive thru. I like the steak burgers, but the salads are where it's at, and that's coming from someone who's not crazy about salads. My hubs ordered the foot long hot dog and loved it. We love their burger seasoning sprinkled on the fries and their milk shakes can't be beat. If you have to eat fast food, Steak & Shake is always a good choice. read more

We were really looking forward to this place after a long day of driving. The door says they're open till 2, but apparently that's only for the drive thru. They close the dining area before 11. Huge disappointment. The worst part though was that the waitress alternated between ignoring us or pretending that we could hear her talking through the glass. It's been sad to see this chain changing for the worse since the corporate takeover a few years ago, but this experience set a new low. Y'all are losing money every time and that's why these place can't stay open is because of the drive thru isn't making money because y'all don't have a strategy for this. Dined on 5/11/19. It took us over an hour for a family of 4 to get food and shakes when there was only about 12-15 people in the place. The waitress has a bad attitude and act like you are inconveniencing them when you ask for napkins. The manager was just as rude and could care less about the customers. This location however seems to have difficulties obtaining and keeping quality employees. When we arrived they weren't busy however had to ask again for our water AFTER our meals were delivered. Our waitress dropped our food off and then brought the water. A few minutes later she brought the shakes out - different from our order. We never saw her again. My sister and I visited this cute little restaurant a few months back. I loved the decor but it was freezing cold in the restaurant. However our food was DELICIOUS! I ordered the ribeye with mash potatoes and Mac n cheese. My sister orders the Thai & bbq wings as an appetizer and the Philly cheesesteak sandwich with fries as her meal.
