Went through the drive thru ordered a shake , that's it a shake , 15 minutes in line , One car in front of me and 5 behind me , it's a shake for Christ sake ? Last time I ate inside it took 40 minutes to get our food there were three tables being served here. Come on. Get with it. I know your slogan is " it not fast food but good food fast". Or something like that. But it's like " if you have an hour or two come in and be ignored by your server and we'll get you a mediocre burger and a shake". Il never go here again read more

Horrible. Went last night after not going for a couple of years due to the CCP virus plandemic. Always had good food and service in the past. Not any more! Touch screen ordering is a bit of a pain, but worse is that the apparently all teenaged staff couldn't care less about proper service. I ordered 3 Way Chili. It took 20 minutes to be ready and came, not on a plate, but in a styrofoam box. And it was ice cold....went right from the fridge to the appetizing styro box without getting near any kind of heat source. I complained to the manager (after I finally managed to get his attention). When I informed him of the problem he said "Well, that's not right." Thank you, Captain Obvious! Three minutes later another worker brought it out saying "I put it in the microwave for 1:45".....in the styrofoam box! Now I had lukewarm chili consisting of rubbery spaghetti, some sauce and a few small chunks of ground beef. Two bites and it was in the garbage. My wife ordered a steakburger and onion rings. The bun was so soggy she could only eat the patty and the onion rings tasted like the frying oil was rancid. Pass this place by......it deserves to go out of business. read more

I would give zero stars to this steak 'n shake. I have had a lot of issues with my orders being messed up and I'm not a complainer! They messed up my order ONCE AGAIN! And the Manager was rude! Didn't fix my order just refunded me on one of the mess ups and said it would be to much of a hassle to fix it and to make another transaction. Ordered online but despite a 20 minute head start, they did not have my order ready. They gave me cold cheeseburgers and did not give me the chicken fingers I ordered. I had to go to McDonald's to buy nuggets for my son. When I drove all the way back, I was told they couldn't do anything about it and that they were sorry. read more

I haven't been here for years and when I started to come back my experience was honestly the worst thing I have ever felt in my life, first off when I was taking my order, the speaker didn't respond well when I asked for a bit of extra time to take my order and I clearly asked for a large root beer with no ice and also a order of 3 free fried for my brother,mother, and I and once we received our order, they added ice into the drinks and they also didn't include our 3 free fries that was ask and when I checked the receipt, it clearly stated that there shouldn't have been no ice. I highly will not recommend this location for future reference and hope to god that next time I go to another location, it would be better than this hell hole. read more

My wife and I stopped in here a few weeks ago. We have been to the McHenry location before and it has been fine. It was lunch time and not extremely busy. There were about half of the tables open but we had a hard time finding one that was clean. The menus were sticky from who knows what and the table was wiped off while we waited but with little effort to actually clean it. It's fast food so not expecting a lot but would expect a clean table to be able to eat. Don't think we will be going back again. Gave two stars because the food isn't the issue. read more

Stopped here late at night expecting mediocre service and didn't even receive that. Me and a friend walked in to see all staff dressed inappropriately (not in uniform, unless an insane clown posse sweater is uniform). Then we finally got to order. We ordered chili, a frisco melt, and chicken tenders. We were now the only people in there. Over half an hour later we finally get the food. The sandwich completely charred, the chili as thick as pudding, and the rest cold. The worst part is not having any place settings, napkins, or silverware. It makes it difficult to eat chili without a spoon. Our server never once came back to check in on us. I went to get ketchup and multiple bottles were empty. The staff was goofing around in back so I had to get a spoon myself and the ketchup on my own. Honestly I am embarrassed to see service like this. I will not be returning ever. read more

The staff were great. They need more servers though. They're always short staff. Everything we come in here, it takes about 45 min to get our food because it's always busy. Haven't they realize how busy they are and need to hire more employees. read more

Wow can't believe service could have ever been this bad. Lifetime ban from all steak and shakes across the country. Really this is how you treat a customer that complains about you guys not getting the food right. Lies from the waitress/manager claiming that we used foul language agianst her. Calling the police on us not even telling us that your doing it so we could stay and explain our side. And then corporate when we called because steak and shake refused to drop the ticket. This has to be the worst steak and shake I have ever been in waited 20 minutes for a server to even acknowledge that we were there then the server had dirty finger nails and hands so then he never came back to the table once. And then the take home box that they have us was filled with dry sorry water. I will never go there every again I would have given it a zero star but that is not possible. read more

I have been going to this steak n' shake for years now. Mostly because after 10 PM there is nowhere else open in the area. Wow does the quality vary. Both in the food and the service. Sometimes I get a great waiter who serves the food quickly while it is warm. Other times it takes a half-hour to get a burger and fries that are cold at time of arrival. I am not expecting a gourmet meal here, just a quick burger, fries, and a shake. I generally always see staff standing around talking to each other or smoking in the back parking lot rather than actually doing their jobs. Also, the resturaunt is always dirty. Tables have marks all over them, the floors are filled with dirt. They could be cleaning instead of smoking. At least the shakes are good. No matter how long it takes for them to come out. read more

Every year on my birthday. I go to steaks and shake for breakfast. Today. Was my last time. I arrived at 6:30 am. Besides the cook there was 1 person working there. He was laying in a booth watching videos on his phone. He helped me but wasn't very friendly,I ordered 2 egg hash browns toast and a breakfast egg and potato taco. Being the only one in the building I would think. They would not screw up my order however. I received. 1 egg and hardly no hash browns way to much grease and butter on everything. I never come here expecting to be wowed, but I wanted a quick dinner and planned to use a coupon. Everything was fine except the waiter never brought out our check or acknowledged us after bringing our food. Went to pay the check at the register and they wouldn't take the coupon for a free drink because it wasn't a "soft drink"...it was an iced tea! Hahaha. Jokes on me. If it were me handling the situation with a customer I would've comped the iced tea...but whatever. Why lure customers with coupons and not honor them? Drives me nuts. First time here. Food is average. Nothing special. Seating and the overall cleanliness of the restaurant is good.

Been here a few times and always have slow service, we've never been in a rush so we didn't mind waiting. Today I had to go somewhere with my boyfriend and decided we'd eat on our way there. I tried calling to place the order, after 4 times no one answered. On the last try still no answer and I heard the dial tone from when someone hangs up. By this time we were already too close to even bother calling. Decided to get something else instead. Train employees to answer a phone. As a fast food worker myself it's not hard to multi task. read more

Haven't been to a steak and shake for a long time and I won't go back. While the food was ok, the service was horrific. Not from all servers as it was take out but from the manager. Asked for special order for one burger and repeated to the general Manager twice. Yep you guessed it. Wrong. With no apologies or acknowledgement. Rest of food cold and shakes melted by time fixed. Great food, good service. New Breakfast is great and cheeper than before but the quality is outstanding. They have a new Royal Burger which is a double burger with cheese and bacon topped with a fried egg. probably the best tasting burger I have ever had! read more

This place is dirty! Unfortunately, we didn't realize how disgusting it was until after we ate. The table was stained and damaged and our salt shaker was empty except for a little bit that was "glued" inside of it. Gross, but the worst was the men's bathroom. It had no paper towels except for dirty ones that were overflowing from the garbage on to the floor. The sink had a disturbing ring around it like it may have sat with backed up water in it for weeks. We told the male manager about it and I was going to check out the women's bathroom, but I was too grossed out by the thought. I saw another review on here stating the same thing. Obviously they have done nothing about it. Spent some time in my own bathroom after eating here. We won't be eating here or at any other Steak and Shake again! read more

Gave 2 stars because our order was correct, and most of the staff was doing a great job. I came here a little over a week ago (July 14th around 6:00 pm?) and our server was a tad too friendly- to put it lightly... It seemed as though as she thought that in order to get a good tip, that she had to flirt with my boyfriend, and other guys that she waited on. It made the entire dining experience uncomfortable. All I can do is laugh to keep from being ticked off. Ordered (at the drive through) a regular old double, and asked for no pickles. What I get is a burger loaded down with pickles, and nothing else. Probably had something to do with me interrupting the 3 workers out back having a smoke. read more

Me and my friend decided to stop in to grab a bite to eat and right away I noticed a lot of things I wasn't to happy about.....the inside of this establishment was very dirty. It seems this place hasn't been properly cleaned in a longtime....noticed a bunch of little critters crawling on tables especially our table....I took a peak in the back of the house and saw how filthy everything was....The GM doesn't know how to run his own establishment.....I'm surprised how guest can walk in here and not say anything. I work in the food industry myself....and I take pride where I work and from what I've seen these associates tonight that they don't know "WHAT GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE IS"! The GM has to be retrained on things....like if his associates are off the clock they shouldn't be in the back of the house where food is prepared without there uniforms etc. P.S. I'm surprised that The Health Department hasn't had a walk through this particular location. I haven't seen the bathroom and I don't plan on seeing it! I hope someone sees this and does something ASAP! Oh one other thing if your going out for a smoke break at least have the courtesy of removing your apron before you step outside. read more

I November 3 my husband and I went to steak and shake at 11 AM in the morning. Sadly to say they don't serve breakfast anymore. But to let everybody know this restaurant was absolutely filthy. We sat in a booth behind the coffee station. The black tile was so full of Greece people were riding in it. The boots had crumbs in them across from us in the crevices on the world. They don't wrap their silverware they serve silverware on a dirty tray and she threw it on our table. We got double taxed and the waitress could care less I contacted their corporate right away and here it is almost 5 days later no one has contacted me. I've always had bad service and I know that because we've been there several times before but this was the dirtiest place I've ever seen. When I told the lady at the register how dirty the tiles were she didn't care until I threatened to call the health department and then she got sarcastic and rude and said fine I'll get it washed. It's a shame that the managers don't really care what goes on I always just hang out at the coffee pot there was only one guy in the restaurant at the same time we were in there no reason why they couldn't be cleaning. So if you go to the state can shake beware of the filth that is in the boots on the walls on the silverware just thought I'd share read more

Love the garlic Burger and fries. Also, great milkshakes. The price is reasonable too. My son likes the hot dogs and loves the milkshakes. I love the half price happy hour and the service has been great for me. I would recommend this steak and shake to any one. The only draw back is that you can't make a left into it and that is the direction I am always coming from. read more

NO STARS! Placed a take out order at 6:48pm. Burger was ready after 5 min. After 30 min, during which no one bothered to see if everything was ok, I had to ask why it is taking over half an hour to make 2 shakes? The manager was called and offered to give me 2 free shakes on my next visit. No explanation. No offer to replace my now cold burger. ABSOLUTELY THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE IVE EVER EXPERIENCED!
