Awesome tacos. I had skirt steak, round steak, pork. Gotta go back a see if they offer ground beef.

The absolute best tacos, burritos, Mexican food in town. It is a small Mexican supermarket and in the back corner they have a little restaurant with the best priced and best tasting Mexican food I've ever had!! I've moved here about a year ago and tried most the Mexican food in mchenry county hands down the best from here they never fail‼ read more

Amazing great yummy!!! I love this restaurant so much I recommend awesome food I love it here!!!

Tough to find - hidden in the back of a Mexican grocery store. The freshness of the meat and toppings is insanely good! Seasoned perfect. Just a small counter or 2 booths to eat at... That's it... But so worth it! read more

La Huerta 5 - Arrachera tacos - Mexican Near Me - McHenry, Illinois

Food is very traditional very good in the back of a grocery store excellent the atmosphere is not very good but worth it

I love it, very nice restaurant in back. People are really here eating in the early afternoon, and the service is friendly! Food looks good, and I think I'll come back because I can get my beer their cheap read more

I subscribe to the belief that the best Mexican food in the US is found in hole-in-the-walls (aka your local dive). La Huerta 5 is top notch and anyone who says different can fight me. First of all, it's a grocery store with a taqueria which are few and far between in McHenry County. It's legit. I am stuck on their al pastor tacos and tostadas. They're just so good! I get mine loaded with everything (sour cream, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and lime on the side). Seriously you won't regret getting anything al pastor here. They have a couple of drink options, but if you can't find what you want just pop into the grocery store and grab what you want. The nice part is they can charge you for whatever you pick up from the grocery store in the taqueria. Great spot to get take-out, but I prefer to dine in. Either way you'll be happy with the cheap eats you'll find with so much flavor! read more

La Huerta 5 - Carne asada y al pastor tacos - Mexican Near Me - McHenry, Illinois

This is definitely a hole-in-the-wall, absolutely no frills joint! It's mainly a to-go place located in the rear of a supermercado. However, there's a long counter along the wall with stools you can eat at. Oh, but the food! They serve absolutely the best authentic tacos around (especially the Pastor), and the long waiting lines of Mexicans prove it. Great food, large portions, fast service and low prices - very satisfying indeed! read more

Friends and i are on the hunt for the best tacos in mchenry... we decided to do a small taco tour around mchenry. out of the 3 places we went last Tuesday (of course we had to do a taco tour on taco Tuesday) food was ok, nothing to write home about. i personally rather go to tacos el norte across the street. the "dining" area was dirty beyond belief. the kitchen area was so dirty that i couldn't even continue to look back there or i would have walked out of there. if you are dining in the payment process is so weird. they ask that you pay after you eat but you pretty much have to stand to eat because there is not enough seating between people eating and people waiting for food so when you do go to pay you're just standing around waiting. they should just have you pay right away instead of making you go back to the counter twice. PS cash only! who is cash only anymore? read more

Delicious tacos. Plenty of meat and super tasty. The steak was super tender and love the selection if jarritos

Connected to the Mexican Grocery store.... its not noticeable but you know the ingredients are legit. Limited seating and run down/ out dated hole in the wall. Look past the aesthetics and you will find some great Mexican food. As someone from southern Texas...this is not Tex-mex but rather the onlY authentic Mexican food we have had since moving to the area. We will be regulars! read more

La Huerta 5 - Pastor Taco with Beans and rice! - Mexican Near Me - McHenry, Illinois

Review on just the taco place. Hands down best local tacos, how their supposed to be, cilantro n onion only

Excellent food and service! I highly recommend the enchiladas with mole. Doesn't get better!!

Best tacos in McHenry, and by far the best al pastor I have ever tried! Give this place a chance and you will be happy you did.

Tried this place a month ago. I noticed the worker using his bare hands to put the toppings on my tacos. I let it slide and ate them anyways. BIG MISTAKE!! was in the bathroom next day all day with sharp pains in stomach. Never again!!! read more

La huerta is the best ethnic mexican food for you buck! Personally best in town. Employees are kind and have fast service! Highly recommend going in for a taco or two! read more

Coming from the city, I know good Mexican food. I got fat on good Mexican food. When we moved to McHenry, I was pretty sure I'd start losing weight if I didn't get my pastor and lengua fix. We were bummed to find all of the Mexican food eateries in McHenry bland, overpriced and just plain bad. If I wanted phony tacos I'll go to Taco Bell, thanks. Most of the stuff in McHenry is geared for white folks. Then we discovered La Rosita and my tummy growled. It's not pretty inside, some may even call it a bit gross, but the cooks are incredibly nice despite their limited English and their food is unbeatable. The tacos are mind-blowingly tasty (you get a large amount of meat as well) and selection is crazy. They even offer SESOS (brains)! The family occasionally hits La Rosita on the weekends to score fresh tamales and carnitas. Yum, just like the city. Do you know how to count to 10 in Spanish? If so, you won't have a problem ordering. Forget the tomatoes, lettuce and the rest of the useless toppings. Get your food with onions and cilantro, ask for extra salsa and limes, and be sure to tip the cooks for a job well done. THE BEST MEXICAN FOOD IN McHENRY read more

Love this place. Yes it's a grocery store with a small "restaurant" in the back. It's not the fanciest place or most appealing but their tacos are delicious. Use good meats for everything on the menu. I don't care how dirty it looks, still the best tacos in the area. read more

Favorite Mexican in town, way cheaper than Tacos El Norte and better in my mind. Pastor and steak tacos are the best, always fresh ingredients. read more

Best kept secret in McHenry. Get Tacos Al Pastor with fresh avocado. Do yourself a favor and add a bit of that red sauce they have in the bottle. Wash it down with an ice cold Coca Cola in a glass bottle. You will not regret it! We stop here every time we are in town. read more

It's damn good to walk into an establishment and the employee's "smile"... appreciative of your business and more importantly, understand customer service! Not all Mexican establishments attempt the "Trilogy" (or even try to). Clarification...Grocery Store, Butcher Counter and Taqueria. A LOT of happy people here, both customers and employees! " I may suggest entering from the rear door and view the "Taco's Al Pastor" being cut from the spit! Thank You! read more

Carne asada tacos are delicious! The tacos are packed with a lot of meat so 2 tacos is what I usually order and that is enough for me. Staff is friendly. read more

Way better than the place down the road, aka "tacos of the north"....This place has changed names, now called "La Heurta 5". If your looking for some real authentic street food at a no hassle location come here. They are very generous with the amount of meat that is in each taco and they have numerous choices as well. Great for lunch or a quick meal anytime. read more

This place is truly a diamond in the rough. By far, it's the best tasting Mexican place in the area. It is so reasonably priced and fast. Burritos come with a side of delicious Spanish rice and beans/ cheese. The Al pastor is this slightly charred pork that is out of this world. My wife , who really doesn't eat meat on her burrito, absolutely loved it. I'm getting 2... maybe 3 next time. The portions are good sized- it's 2 meals for my wife. La Huerta 5, please don't change a thing; you're amazing!! read more
