So I noticed how high my bill was $13 for three tiny tacos that did not even fill me up and I'm a little guy, it was almost 5 dollars a taco. I just hade meat, lettuce, and tomato on it. they were way smaller than Taco Bell tacos! I feel I got ripped off so bad. I will never go there again. I've eaten here for years. Always great food fast service. Until today. Tried to call in my order. Voicemail not set up, multiple calls. Tried calling back finally got a human who said they needed to put me on hold. Which they did, by placing the phone on the counter for 8 minutes. And never came back to take my order. So I drove over there and placed my order at the counter, which was empty and I had to wait another 5 minutes for somebody to come up and place the order which will now be ready in 10 minutes. Time to hire new staff. Don't know what changed but it's not working. I used to come here all the time at least once a week. But no longer, I always order tacos with onions and cilantro and now the onions are chopped so large you get a bite of onion and it just ruins the whole taste of the taco you need to go back to slicing your onions really really small like you used to. But another important factor besides that is the price, I ordered two Taco dinners which wasn't so bad in itself at $32 however I also ordered one side of rice one side of beans and an 8 oz side of guacamole which came to $17 and some change. Really!!! That was crazy and I told that to the girl there at the counter and she nonchalantly replied oh well everything has gone up. Well I won't disagree with that but to charge that much for a scoop of rice in a scoop of beans and a side of guacamole well that was just too much for me. Needless to say after years of being a faithful customer I will no longer be patronizing this establishment. Alvarado has better food now and cheaper prices. read more

This place is cheaper than most places, a torta was only 8.99 before tax. But the one I got of Asada had no flavor, I had to try and drown it in salsa verde to get a better taste but the salsa also lacked flavor. The horchata wasn't that good either. read more

We love this place. Never dined in, it's a small and very generic dining area at the front of the restaurant. It's always been a takeout place for us; and they seem to always have people sitting in there after placing an order to take out, so they seem to do good business. Generally we get enchiladas and burritos, and they have always been top notch. Their hot salsa is terrific. Service has always been polite and prompt. Not a fan. NOT.A.FAN Stopped by for the second time, the first being over a year ago. Wasn't too impressed but at the time it wasn't awful so stopped by again when the taco craving hit. Ordered 3 steak tacos. Came with lettuce, tomatoes, and cheese. First off, they were all packed individually. Not that it bothers me much, but I just thought it was a waste of foil. Immediately after my first bit, I could smell a stench coming from the cheese. Now I know cheese can be stinky at times, but I've never had stinky cheese on my tacos. Didn't want to waste my food, but didn't want to eat the cheese, so I picked it off all the tacos (as good as I could). Stench was mainly and now there was absolutely no taste to the taco meat- even with the verde salsa. Not sure if they forgot to add seasoning to both, but everything was so bland. Huge disappointment especially since I love tacos. I mean, how can one mess up tacos?? Do yourself a favor and skip this location. Not sure if it's affiliated with the one in Island Lake, but go to Armandos Taco and Burrito Express out there. It's less than 15 mins away and well worth the drive for good tacos. Get the ilegallas steak tacos or the chicken flautas... you won't be disappointed. read more

Usually pretty good. My favorite thing to order is the Chile relleno with beef and ranchero sauce. I will say that the quality varies slightly sometimes and I don't know why. Some days I will absolutely destroy my Chile relleno like a monster because it's cooked perfectly and then on occasion the poblano isn't quite roasted enough so it's still a little tough. For a close place that's pretty quick I don't mind taking the gamble. I've had a few other things here and I've usually been satisfied. read more

Speedy Service This little place is quick, simple, and decently good. I have eaten her a few times and the burrito's are always warm, and there sauces are really good. There is enough seating inside but the restaurant is connected to a little strip mall plaza to the right side of the BP so there are some spots for parking. Food is so-so. I tried the "beef taco" which was hamburger on a tortilla with a little lettuce & cheese. Also a "pastor" taco that had so-so meat but the red salsa killed it. It was like chiptole peppers from a can run through a food processor. Meh. The inside of this place is kind of dumpy. The furniture looked like they got it at a yard sale and all the tables were covered with crumbs and other mystery droppings and stains. My mom lives down the street, so I'd SEEN Taco + Burrito Express, but had never eaten here. I was in the area running errands and stopped in - right around 6pm - to grab some grub before heading back home. It'd be better to support a local business and would likely taste better (authenticity!) than, say, Taco Bell (which was my first on-the-go idea), right? I should have known something was up when I stood at the register for several minutes (the door rings when opened) without seeing an employee. When he finally did show (from the bathroom?), he looked less than thrilled to see me. He just looked at me - no smile, no "Hello"...nothin'. Hmm. I ordered the Bean Burrito ("Queen" sized = $3.75) and mushrooms ($2.75). It was ready in a jiffy. The mushrooms were plentiful, smelled so good, and seemed piping hot, so I dove right in...and bit into a mushroom that was frozen in the middle. Srsly?! So, I tried another. Also frozen. And another: frozen on the inside and floury/gummy from the breading. Aaaaand then I gave up. I had half a mind to drive back, but figured it just wasn't worth it. Next was the burrito. Despite it being a BEAN burrito, the beans were pretty sparse; I couldn't even taste them. I even checked the burrito and saw only a teeny bit of them smeared around the tortilla. It was so bland that I really couldn't distinguish any separate flavors, really. sigh. Mannn, I hate trying new things/places and being sorely disappointed. I also hate giving small places like this such a poor review. It seems TBE has a lot of potential, so I'm not sure what the deal is. The $7 price point WOULD have been reasonable if it had been edible. I'd have gotten a better-tasting meal at TB. And that's sad. read more

Disappointed with my recent visit to this taco joint. First off the Hispanic guy behind the counter needs to pay attention & listen to the customer when they're placing their order. Screwed up my taco & drink order. Yes screwed up 3 tacos and a coke. Then when I tell him my order is wrong, he prints a receipt and attempts to show me what I ordered. Dude, I ordered correctly, but you screwed it up. Then he attempts to charge me more money to get my order right? Really! This guys needs a lesson in customer service. Plenty of taco spots around to choose from, if they can't get it right, I wont be back. Chipotle does it better and I don't even consider their food authentic. Food is always consistent over a 10 year period of time. Good taste and great value for the price. If your are looking for upscale Mexican cuisine? Go elsewhere. This is about the best of grill food you can find outside of Chicago. These guys work hard every day and they put out the same level of product consistently. If you want high quality Mexican food, go to Rick Bay less' Mexican Grill on the North Side and be underwhelmed by the 20 years of research into his mole sauce. read more

Food is always decent. The counter guy is always friendly and at this point recognizes me as amigo. Decent, quick, and cheap Mexican food. It is fresh and the service is friendly and excellent. It is a place I go to if I want to get away from all the corporate fast serve places in the area. During the lunch hour this place gets somewhat crowded. The steak and chicken tacos served on corn tortillas are a staple. Get steak instead of beef when ordering. The beef is like hamburger, the steak is much more flavorful. I've also had their quesadillas, burritos, tostadas, and tortas. I wasn't a fan of their pork tamales. The prices are very reasonable, cheaper than other restaurants in the area. A mid-sized burrito is $3.65 and a large burrito is $4.65. Tacos are $1.50 each. I wouldn't say this place is "fantastic", but for the area, in comparison this place is golden. read more

First off, this is a small restaurant with only about seven tables but they do a very good carryout service. Nothing special about the ambiance of the restaurant, just very plain and clean, but where they shine is their menu. Most small taco and burrito joints are pretty much that, tacos and burritos. But not here, their offerings are not only the aforementioned but also full dinners and more. Sopes, enchiladas, chile rellenos, skirt steak dinners (I highly recommend the Bistec a la Mexicana), tampiquenos, fajitas, cochinita pivil, tortas, chimichangas, tostadas, and more! They even have bacon tacos. Amazingly they also have a breakfast menu. Being a big fan of Mexican food I have been here several times and have never been disappointed. Despite all of their choices, I don't believe there is anything on the menu more than $11.95. Everything served is freshly prepared and delicious. Now I have had better upscale Mexican cuisine but definitely more expensive. But for the convenience, price, taste, and value I don't believe it can be easily bettered. Worst Mexican food I have ever had! The chips were plain and borderline stale. An order of chips and guacamole was almost $7, but in all fairness, they did have a sign up to warn customers. However, the guacamole hardly contained any avocado. It was super chunky and tasted more like pico de gallo with a super light coating of avocado. The burritos were rolled poorly. The steak was pretty good, but the tomatoes and cheese (which there were hardly any of) were all in a small blob at the end of the burrito. I asked for no beans onine, but my boyfriend's was supposed to have beans and there was only a riny acoopy in one spot as well. Been here once for a pickup order, got two burrito suizos and they were delicious! Customer service was great as well and they have homemade salsa that they give with every order! Only complaint is the burritos were about half the size as I am used to when ordering from other restaurants. But still filling and very good! read more

So the website says that it's $1.50 per taco but when you get there they charge you $2.50 per taco they say that the website is old and out of date and the owner is off this month on vacation and I should call back next month and the guy didn't answer the phone would not even give me his name.
