Frisco Melt Combo with cheese sauce and Fries
Stephanie C.

My dad was feeling nostalgic and wanted to come here and eat lunch while looking out at the river. I hadn't realized that they had done away with waiters/waitresses. When you first walk in, there are a few kiosks where you place your order and pay. After that, you can help yourself to the drink counter and then pick your seat. They call out your name when your items are ready and you go up and collect it from the counter. I'm kinda torn between whether I like this approach or not. I hate the nervous interactions with people but at the same time, I'd rather that someone actually have a paying job than to hand off their duties to machines. I did noticed an elderly couple that came in after us struggling with the kiosk. At some point while waiting for our food, I also heard the manager and one of the grill cooks fighting over something. Not very professional to argue loud enough for the customers to hear and be made uncomfortable. The food itself was fine. The shakes seem a bit smaller than I remember, but are still just as expensive. I ordered a Frisco Burger. I would have liked to add grilled onions to it, but that wasn't an option that I could find on the kiosk. May they don't want to offer up custom orders to make cooking the food more streamline. I always love the fries here, though.

Ok Steak N Shake in Peoria, Ill... I see you. Hubs went to pick up dinner for us while we stayed at Embassy next door (more on that in another review). Burger was ok but arrived looking like a classic McD's thrown together meal. Taste was ok. I need to check the receipt to make sure we got what we paid for... somehow I doubt it.

The view is awesome

I wish I did not have to even give one star for this location. Although the food was ok, my lack of stars is due to the service I received as well as the service the older gentleman sitting in the booth next received. He had ordered long before my being placed at the table, as his drink glass was empty and he was looking around the place (as we all due when we are ready to get out meal). After ordering coffee it was a long time before we received it and we began looking around as the other man was ....haha! No one ever expects to wait for coffee-really!!!! While have a long amount of time waiting for the coffee I notice the catsup bottle on the table......Yuckie!! see picture.... Did I mention that business was slow for the size of the place???? Coffee cups empty with no one in sight once again we wait!!!! All these items are due to the service, I have no other career options for this server but I will say this job at Steak N Shake is not good fit!!!!!

It's a Steak and Shake. It meets the standard, although it's a fast food place. Don't expect much.

Not real busy, but I did notice that there seemed to be several "Door Dash" pickups while we ate dinner. We had good service. Our waitress was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. We ordered 1/2 rack ribs (4 stars), 1/2lb Brisket (3 1/2 stars), Brunswick stew (4 1/2 starts), and Chili Con Carnie (5 stars). The house made barbecue sauce was the highlight of the meal (5 Stars). The ribs were very good and fell off the bone. The sauce made them exceptional. Brisket was tasty, but a little dry for my wife's liking. In hindsight, we probably should have ordered the brisket "chopped". The waitress indicated that the "chopped" brisket was more "fatty". The Chili Con Carnie was very very good. Not something that you see at a Barbeque place often. I highly recommend. The key lime pie was very tasty and better than what you get at most places. Although not quite exceptional. Worth a try though. Overall, we liked the Blue Duck Barbecue Tavern. Great location and lots of character. Very good ribs, excellent homemade barbeque sauce.

Being a waitress in my 20's, I know how a big party can be a struggle. The reason I picked Thyme was due to some dietary restrictions. Thyme serves all. I recommend Thyme for business meeting lunches and dinners. Make a reservation ahead of time so they can accommodate your needs. Love to see old buildings brought back to life, Thyme, in the old Sealtest building, sits in the warehouse district of downtown Peoria. The eclectic atmosphere is inviting. The food is traditional yet exotic, yet farm to table, yet mysterious! We eat with our eyes, then smell, then taste. Good job Thyme!

Keep in mind we are new here and excited to embrace this new city and all its food places just like this. It was a Tuesday night and they were busy, not so busy that we had to wait for a table, we got right in. The blond girl that was to be our server came to take our drink order. I was on the fence for a few items so I asked the server, "When the cooks in this place get a moment to themselves to enjoy a dish, which is it they usually get?" She assured me without a doubt it was not the burger I was comparing but the duck reuben. Being a fan of both duck and Reuben's I was like, " oh hell yeah, sign me up". So I replied I'll have the Reuben, mom got meatloaf, dad got the burger, wife got the poke bowl. We had a few drinks enjoyed each other's company and then our appetizers came, the cheese curds!! Holy smokes these were legit the star of the evening! If you go I recommend these! Our food came out after and we began to eat. This is the point it went south! The server all but vanished. Usually you can't get a bite in before your asked how is it? Well we needed silverware, napkins, salt and pepper, basic accoutrements. Nobody came. My Reuben..... BORING!! This was the smallest plate of food I've ever seen. The duck was overcooked and dry, there was not a good ratio of slaw to dressing to duck and it was lacked all the way around. I was hoping to ask for some more dressing to bring some life to it but the server never came. Mom wanted salt and pepper for her meatloaf, but the server never came. Finally I was able to get S&P from a busser! The poke bowl was kinda a joke as well, huge bowl of rice and peas and about 3 or 4 small bits of tuna. It was good but not balanced and completely underwhelming. Folks are boomers so yeah considering mom needed to help meatloaf says a lot. But still no server! Finally she came back with the bill. At which point I had to mention that this was by far the WORST Reuben I have EVER had!! She giggled. I said SERIOUSLY, that was wack AF, and you never came back to check on us so I couldn't even attempt a save by dousing it in dressing! She ignored that and disappeared, yup the shitty Reuben was still there on the bull and nobody cared! Moral of the story, you're gonna gamble here. I would love to try again but when you can get a Reuben at One World that blows it out of the water EVERYTIME for a fraction of the price I would second guess giving your money to this business. Bummer, I love the building, I love the ice cream factory throw back! And the ambience is super nice! Service and portioning need a lot more investigation. Hey owner this is your queue!! Make a positive change here.

Now that their liquor license is in place, 'PopUp kingdom' has a great new flagship location in the…read moreheart of the Peoria baseball stadium/warehouse district. And we highly recommend a visit, especially if you are familiar with the brand! Like the BloNo location there are at least two entrances - the one further west is for a good sized hosting/ordering/waiting area while the one closest to the ballpark has more direct access to the bar area, but is way more space-restricted and will likely be a traffic jam on game days. If you're looking for a table, both entrances open to the rest of the cool 'industrial chic' dining areas in the form of a large street-level open concept dining area and a good sized split-level (up 3-4 steps) back room - which despite having wide entrances that make it feel part of the larger space, likely can easily be cordoned-off for private functions. One visit in and the lady and I (plus our friend and former Ptown bartender) can say that the food was every bit the same top-quality, large portion, methodically cooked and creatively accented sandwiches and wraps, served in old school pie pans with red-white check paper liners, that we are used to. The weekend special shaved ribeye Cali burrito was particularly epic, cementing what seems to be the first of the 3 or 4 things that keep the crowds coming back. The second thing is the creativity and discernment applied to bar side - in the form of the beer menu, which is initially focused on bottles/cans since they just received the liquor license the day before our arrival. Despite this there was a good mix of 'domestics' and at least 20 quality craft options from 6 or 8 fantastic breweries representing a good variety of styles but leaning like those at the original location - that is, a few more IPAs and 'sweet sours'. They also maintain a thoughtful and inventive cocktail list and will NO DOUBT start building up the whiskey/bourbon collection in the coming weeks. Although having high quality and fairly compensated employees helps immensely, the last thing that really drives their business is something we often say three times - location... In this case, it's literally less than a block from home plate. Easy to find. Easy to love. We'll certainly be back!

Worst of all there was no Bourbon glaze which was a bummer because it wasn't seasoned ...not one bit!! The Reuben wasn't actually bad, the thick cut corned beef was yummy but the bread was also over toasted. The fries were good as was the side of ranch for a dip. We ordered a side of pickles for the Reuben but they came when the sandwich was nearly gone and only when we reminded the waitress which didn't circle back like normal to see how we were doing and check to see if things were good. Now here's the part that was wild. There were only 2 tables 3 people at one and 2 people at the other. To me this seems like you couldn't care less! We didn't take pics because the food was unremarkable but I'll share pics of the building. I would skip this place for food unless you got time and money to spare as the average menu item was $16. Even the scotch eggs were $14 for 2!!!! She recommended the Cuban Pulled Pork Sandwich. My sandwich was huge and contained a large portion of pulled pork meat. It was delicious and the homemade chipotle bbq mayo made it all the more satisfying with its rich smoky flavor! The Cuban-style black beans were right out of Miami! Very nicely prepared and included green peas, carrots, corn, and bell peppers, as well. My dining companion, for her part, ordered the Falafel platter, with a side order of gyro meat. The falafel (a dozen), were fresh, tasty, and just the right consistency. These were served with lettuce, onions, tomatoes, pita, and hummus. The side order of gyro meat featured a generous portion of decadently succulent lamb shavings and included two portions of homemade tzatziki sauce. Everything we ate was prepared to perfection and could easily compete with exceptional restaurants in Chicago! Yes, the food at One World is that good. As for the service, our waitress Quincy was friendly and professional. As for the ambiance and decor--we arrived ahead of the lunch crowd, so it was pretty quiet. The decor, however, is nicely done. The premises were clean and well maintained. Ditto the restrooms. The restaurant is actually huge. There are multiple dining areas and in the summer there is an outside patio behind the restaurant, as well. As for pricing and affordability--quality costs, and the food here is definitely a cut above. That being said, the owners have priced the entrees quite reasonably considering the generous portion-size and quality of the food. My overall opinion? If you want a dining experience worthy of comparison to the best Chicagoland has to offer, but don't want to make the long drive--or pay twice as much--then I highly recommend this little gem of a locally-owned restaurant in Peoria!
