I rarely rag on a place that we eat at this often, but this was not the best meal we've had here. Arriving at 6:15 and seated promptly it was 10 minutes before our server made an appearance and took our order - both drink and food at the same time since we had had plenty of time to know what we wanted (like we needed that!). But, it was another 10 minutes before we saw our drinks served by a different girl. And then it was 20 minutes more before we received our food. I'm sorry - but this place wasn't that busy that it should take that long to fry up two burgers! And, to complicate the issue more, the burgers were dry and not very warm. Our french fries were not fresh, either, but our server brought out fresh fries promptly. My wife's double steakburger was dry and inedible and we had it removed from the check. It seemed like we must have caught shift change - there were lots of servers but they were also walking out the door so that by the time we left there weren't that many. Yesterday I stopped in for a milkshake and the manager was threatening to call the police on a customer. The time before 5 tables sat at once and all other open tables stacked high with dishes! Two stars only because our waitress was so sweet. This place is filthy!! The floor was disgusting. When I first entered I thought there were dead bugs all over the floor but thankfully I was wrong and it was just all dinged up. But trust me it was dirty too! Who knows when it was cleaned last. I saw dust and stuff all over and it seemed to take a while for tables to get bussed. The chilli was a bit watery. We've been to so many other steak and shakes in Ohio and this one did not compare. BEWARE THE DRIVE THROUGH!!!!!!!!! Very sad to write this because this Steak and Shake has always been well run, but at this time there is a THIEF running the drive through!! Last week I went through late evening, maybe 9:30 ish, ordered a Mint Orea Shake, handed a $20 bill to pay. The shake was $4.17. I got the change part and for the bills I got $10 bill and a $1 bill when it should have been a ten and a five. The thing is the bills will folded up, with the intent of making it less likely I would see what I had gotten. I chalked it up to an error, got the matter corrected and moved on with my life. I again went to this location, convenient as I live maybe 1.5 miles away, ordered my regular mint oreo shake and this time, thinking about the other night I gave the same woman only a $5 bill and two dimes. She took the money, asked what I had ordered (I guess she was too busy thinking about her stealing) and she went back to tell someone to make the shake. No change had been given to me. She was gone from the window the entire time and I began to realize that I wasn't going to get my dollar unless I did something about it. When the shake was given to me, with no change, I asked for it. The woman was pissed, and things got nasty. She did reach into the register give me a dollar and had three pennies as well. I took the dollar, said I didn't need the three cents, which she then thew at me, into the car. I called her a thief, which to my mind she clearly is and she told me to just leave or she would call the police. I told her to go ahead, I thought it a good idea and waited. The sheriff's department responded, three vehicles. They spoke to me, never took my name or anything else, two of the officers did go into the restaurant. What came was just a single burger with one patty plain with nothing on it. I didn't get any sauce for my chicken tendys and marked 2 specifically. Food was really good but the order was 1000% wrong. The food is good but the wait is always really tough. I know they are short staffed so I try to keep that in mind but it's frustrating when some employees just don't care. I had ordered through the drive through one night, didn't realize until I got home that the lady hadn't given me my husbands meal- we had to drive all the way back, the thing that was frustrating is she would've noticed she forgot the meal on the counter had she gone back in (as there were cars waiting to order) yet after she handed me my food she stayed outside to talk to a friend. Every once in awhile, you come across a restaurant that you've been to many times, and suddenly realize you have no idea why! Today, our trip to Steak and Shake was one of those times. The clearly written order was not properly understood by the kitchen, so my son's side dish was not served with the meals. It was served very quickly after, but cold, congealed, and tasteless... you can see in the pictures! Their advertising half price happy hour on all drinks runs from 2 to 5 AM or PM. It was always every day. Since they added an hour and its from 2 to 5, instead of 2 to 4, it is now only Monday through Friday! There is a tiny sign on the door as you walk in that does say weekdays, but who's looking at this sign when they're sitting at the table ordering, or during their meal. Not me! When I ordered two milkshakes, because the waitress came to my table 3 times before my son exited the bathroom trying to take my order, she may have wanted to mention that though it was happy hour time, happy hour does not exist on the weekends. She did not! When I brought this to her attention, after receiving the check, she simply stated, that's only Monday thru Friday. She did not offer an apology, or an explanation as to why it is not clearly marked on the menu or anywhere else inside the restaurant. As I look at her, in her uniform, a bit more closely... I see she's even wearing a button advertising happy hour is from 2 to 5, EVEN the button does not specify Monday through Friday only! Why is she even wearing it on a Saturday night? Well we went in for the kids eat free all weekend special, which we received, so for one adult the check came to over $16 for a burger, onion rings, and 2 milkshakes! I am thoroughly disappointed at the quality of the food, my burger had wilted lettuce, a terrible looking piece of tomato, and nothing on the table but ketchup. When I asked for a side of mayo, I got a tiny cup of Miracle Whip... And that's when I gave up trying to make the mess of a meal even work! I told the waitress I was working on a Yelp review, and ate my onion rings & drank the 1/2 of my milkshake I could... I continued to take pictures, and even discussed our dissatisfaction with the quality of food with my son loud enough for the staff at the counter to easily here. So she asked me several times if there was anything else I needed, but she never once asked me once if I was satisfied with the meal I received, or seem to care that I was working on a lengthy review on social media about the restaurant! That in and of itself completely shocked me. She was definitely young enough to be internet savvy, as I could see a smartphone peeking out of her waitress apron pocket. How could she not realize if I was satisfied, I would not have spent the entire time I should have been eating...working on a review about the restaurant. I chatted up my waitress, as I was paying the check, apologetically explaining to her that all I had was a $20 bill and thought that my milkshakes would be $4.00 instead of $8.00, so her tip was going to be partially in change. She did mention it to someone at the counter, as she paid the check, that I thought happy hour was every day, because it used to be! But that didn't cause a manager to apologize for the confusion, explain why it was not properly notated anywhere like on the menu, on the table, or anywhere else besides the small sign on the front door. All in all, the staff was friendly and more than adequate. The food, however, especially for the overpriced milkshake that was undrinkable halfway through because all of the hot fudge was sitting at the bottom, was subpar except for the onion rings. Once you got through half the milkshake all you had was a clogged straw full of hot fudge. Definitely not what I expected from a four dollar milkshake! My sons chocolate chip cookie dough milkshake was wonderful, but when I ordered it I was never asked which size I wanted and was automatically brought a very small child size milkshake for $3.00, 1/4 the size of the adults, for $1.00 less! Since it does not come with the meal, the least they could have done was asked me what size I would like! If I do ever decide to go back to this location I will definitely only go if I have coupons, ask questions about all specials before ordering, and will definitely be picking up takeout or hitting the drive thru. All in all my waitress did a great job getting the food out quickly and asking repeatedly if we had everything we needed, but it is not worth having to tip someone for cold subpar food! The fries are soggy and not topped over the brim of the paper cup the fries are in. Normally 1 inch is the rule. Our server/cook looked high off his ass, which would explain why he forgot half the order. He actually came back and asked me how to make the sandwiches... there were 4 other tables sitting, two of which had their orders messed up too. The food tasted like cardboard and my shake was somehow melted even though it didn't get started until after we were halfway through the food. I had to physically get up and put the menus away. The other person at the table had to get up and ask for napkins since we weren't given silverware, either. I understand it is late but this is a huge corporate chains... they should at the very least have standards. The kitchen had food and trash all over the floor. The cook was literally stepping on piles of sloppily thrown food while cooking. The night staff is all friendly and the food is never less than superb. Had a salad today and asked for extra Italian dressing... got a HUGE plate of veggies and THREE big cups of dressing.
